Everybody is at fault here. The left. The right. The media. And worst of all Trump. I have voted Republican for 20 years and there was absolutely no way I could do it this time. I could not even look myself in the face if I did. His actions since the election have proven to me that I made the right choice. Despite what the right does or the left does or the media does, Trump is the president. He needs to have the grace to rise above it and act with dignity no matter what. That's one thing I can say about president Obama. I did not vote for him. I did not agree with him. But he didn't make me embarrassed. He acted with dignity. Trump needs to learn to act with dignity. The left needs to learn to act with dignity. The right needs to learn to act with dignity. And the media has just got to stop fanning the flames. We all have to treat each other with respect. All of us. If we want to make change we have to stop with threats and boycotts and insults. We need to take a deep breath and consider the impact of our actions on others. Both on this board and off. We have got to start appreciating our differences. We aren't all the same. Most things in life aren't black and white. I am so afraid for our country. If Trump isn't going to lead us with grace and dignity let's at least try to interact with each other in that way. Let us be the example to each other and our children. OK sorry. I don't know what got into me today. I just felt.like there's all this finger pointing and no one wants to accept the blame. And we are all to blame. I agree with much of what you stated but disagree about boycotts. They were absolutely pivotal to ending slavery, apartheid and many other unjust policies.

Protest all you want. Just don't act like animals. Don't threaten death to those who don't agree with you, don't block traffic, don't create a riot. Surely you know the difference between protesting and conduct such as that. I really think most of us are on the same page in this respect. I certainly don't want to see anyone threatened or businesses defaced. People who do those things should be prosecuted - no question. I do support peaceful protest, boycotts and peaceful civil disobedience. I think there is a difference between bullying and vocal expression of opinion. Every single business, celebrity and/or politician can do what they want and support who they want, but in a democracy there are consequences to actions which often take the form of things like economic boycotts. I believe this has been mentioned, but Trump too has encouraged this form of protest. I am less concerned about people facing the economic consequences of their actions than what I consider bullying of government officials and the media by Trump and people on his team. In my opinion that is the true threat to our democracy.

Never too old. I see women who wear them in their 80s and look great. In my opinion the same things that would look tacky on women of a certain age look just as bad on teens. From the pictures you have shared, I think you dress tastefully and have nothing to worry about.

I'm pretty stunned by this statement. The only thing I can think of is that because you are a classy person you avoided the sites that were filled with truly awful things said about Obama and his family for 8 whole years. The constant use of the N word, not to mention the stuff coming out of Trump's own mouth. I heard it in my state in person at least once a week and constantly online. Trump is self admittally a slimeball so I can't get too upset when people say he is, and that they don't want to normalize his behavior by supporting people that associate with him in any capacity. I for one do not consider Trump a legitimate president. Not because the color of his skin makes me think he must have been born in Africa, but because of the mounting evidence that he has much more to do with Russia than previously thought. Of course he could ease some of those fears if he released his taxes, but it is unlikely that will ever happen. The minute Trump invited Russia to hack emails and they complied, is the day I started questioning Trump's loyalty to this country. I think he will resign under pressure as evidence surfaces that show his behavior is illegal and perhaps even treasonous.

I think your friends were incredibly rude and insensitive. As for the scars, all that matters is that you think of them as badges of honor. Doesn't matter at all what anyone else thinks.
I've thought about scars a lot. I need to have a major surgery that will leave me with scars from the top of my chest to my belly. I have no idea if I will get plastic surgery to remove them. I'm open to the possibility because of the size and length but I will only have them "fixed" if they affect my self confidence.
ETA: I have a scar on my wrist from a surgery and a small scar above my lip from a kid hitting me with a shovel in kindergarten. Both are visible and don't bother me at all.

It is very rare for me to actually hate people; I find it is rarely worth the energy. However I am seriously starting to hate Donald Trump. As I saw someone say earlier, John Lewis walked with MLK while Trump was endorsed by the KKK. That pretty much sums it up for me.

Yes I do. Trump does not understand the Chinese mindset at all. The Chinese disliked Hillary Clinton but respected her. They dislike Trump and think he is a buffoon. The more he says stupid things the more they will feel a need to punch back and safe face. One China is gospel to them and they will not back down.

I use it and really like it. Besides the volume, it's hard to even tell it is in your hair. No weird texture or added frizz.

You won't get to see it all so don't kill your self trying. I lived there for 7 years, still visit and I'm pretty sure I haven't seen everything. I think the key to enjoying your trip is picking the things that you feel like you can't miss, versus trying to squeeze it all in.
You are in a great location. I lived right across the street from there for a few years and loved how easy it was to get everyplace. The metro system is good and there is a free app you can use (search Washington DC metro in the App Store and you will see it) that should make it super easy.
Here are my picks:
🔘 Museums: Air and Space Museum (one of the Smithsonians), National Gallery of Art, National Museum of American History (one of the Smithsonians) and Holocaust Museum. If you like modern art and sculpture I would add the Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden to the list. I haven't been to the African American History Museum yet but I've heard it is very good.
🔘 Memorials: Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans are my must sees but if you have a personal connection to any of the others I would make time for those.
🔘 National Zoo (depending on weather) if you haven't seen Giant Pandas before I think they live up to the hype but I really like bears of all kinds.
🔘 U.S. Capitol - call one of your representatives to arrange. The White House used to be on my list but it is so much more restrictive now than it used to be.
🔘 If you want to eat and shop you could go to Union Station (the restored train station), Georgetown or Alexandria. You could go to Pentagon City mall of course but to me it is just another mall.
🔘 Restaurants - There are so many great ethnic restaurants so I would pick something you can't get at home. I hear great things about Estadio (tapas), The Regent (Thai), Le Diplomate (French), Compass Rose (Mediterranean) and recently The Bird which is new (American)
I know it's a few months away, but be sure to check weather forecast before you go. I've been there in March when it's freezing and also when it's very nice weather.

I love that! Thank you so much for sharing!!
The Bush (Jr) family has always seemed pretty awesome to me. The whole family was kind to the Obamas when they moved in and now this. Michelle Obama is probably my favorite First Lady of all time, but I really liked Laura Bush too and it seems her daughters inherited her grace and kindness.

President Obama just surprised Joe Biden with the Medal of Freedom! A deeply deserved honor and a wonderful tribute. I'm in tears in the best possible way. I worked on Vice President Biden's first presidential run and have admired him ever since. I can't tell you how much my soul needed this today! For those of you who like him, I think you will really enjoy watching the ceremony. It's pretty wonderful!!

I'm so sorry but I don't think you can count on anything.
I spoke to someone in my US Senator's office today since he is on the healthcare committee dealing with the ACA. The details are not worked out but my impression from him was that there will be no choice but to reduce healthcare availability to adult children as well as coverage of preexisting conditions in order to create a healthcare plan that will be approved by fiscal conservatives.
I'm very nervous about this and am hoping that Trump will press them to figure out a way to include these as he said he would but I don't think we can count on it.

I still think what I thunk before...CNN reporting on unsubstantiated memos is irresponsible journalism. It would seem they saw an opportunity to finally get this info "out there" and they took it. Now they're trying to distance themselves from their own reporting saying "we just reported on it's existence, we didn't put the details out there!" B.S. They knew exactly what would happen, they just wanted to be ones to break the story - at any cost - just like any other money-driven media outlet in the US. This dossier has been floating around the Capitol for last year or so and no other news agency found it fit for release because it cannot be corroborated! Here's why: NYT: "How a Sensational, Unverified Dossier Became a Crisis for Donald Trump"Massive details at the article link that go all the way back to how this dossier was even collected and by whom because journalism ISN'T dead at the New York Times, thank God. I could not disagree more. The reason CNN reported on this at this time was because the information was just presented to Trump and Obama. This does not happen unless intelligence officials believe that they have to because the dossier put Trump at risk of blackmail. While I only know what I have read about this incident (I've been out of D.C. for many years) some of you from the old board may remember that I worked for the Secret Service and had many colleagues in intelligence. I assure you that this stuff is not brought to POTUS without a firm belief in its importance. That is why it is news. ETA: After listening to the BBC reports about this I believe what Buzzfeed printed was accurate and that there are multiple tapes of Trump in distasteful situations. That he likes to get his freak on is not an issue for me as I could care less what he does in the bedroom, my concern is that Russia has information they can use to blackmail the soon to be POTUS.

How did Trump know which reporter is from which news organization during the press conference? They usually introduce themselves, (although that poor reported from CNN didn't have a chance to do so yesterday) or they have their mic's marked on the front with the logo/name of the media they represent. In addition, Trump spends a lot of time calling them individually and off the record. It is a practice that I wish the press would stop being a part of.

Just reading this I had the same gut reaction as OP. First I thought chivalrous but then I leaned toward chauvinist. However my final thought was he expresssed what he is comfortable with. The young lady that asked him also has the right to say that doesn't work for her and can find another date. I think romantic involvements, from dates to marriages, work best when people are honest about what works for them. So I don't think either label really applies.

We tried a separate board on the old board and it did not work. I am very much against splitting it up and totally agree with what Elaine said.
To be honest, I'm disturbed there aren't MORE political threads. I am grateful for every.single.pea that starts a thread even when I don't agree with them. I love and happily recognize that we have people on this board who are passionate and engaged about what is happening in this country. Thank you all!! The US peas like me live in a country where 50% of voters regularly don't bother voting. Do I like when threads devolve into name calling, of course not. But I would rather that than complete apathy. The United States of America only works when We The People work - by voting, by paying attention to everything happening, by expressing our views to our representatives and by staying actively engaged in every way possible. That is what our forefathers fought for and I consider every post here a tribute to them.

I'm 99% sure the only applause was from his staff not reporters.
NPR made a mistake but it does sound like they fixed it pretty fast. So in my opinion it falls under mistake versus any kind of fake news.
I felt deeply embarrassed and sad for our country today.

Donald Trump thinks he is being treated like a Jew in NAZI Germany! Deeply offensive.
Won't answer questions from news sources he doesn't like. Every journalist should have walked out at that time.

He is going to repeal and replace Obamacare simultaneously and it will be a gift to the democrats. It's going to be a great plan but apparently he has little idea of what it will be.
Continuing to lie about businesses staying here because of him, in direct conflict with what their CEOs are saying.

This is hardly a press conference. Another con to say what he wants, but most of all get the news to focus on this instead of the confirmation hearings. The press, who has learned NOTHING, fell for it again.

Trump now says that because he will be President that he can do whatever he wants in terms of his own business, with no consequences and is excempt from conflict of interest charges. He says he will voluntarily separate himself from his businesses but since he repeatedly said he can do want he wants, it is hard to believe. He is worst than I could have ever imagined!
