I just cannot wrap my head around how in the world McConnell can be okay with Trump appointing a SC judge less than two months before the election when Obama was not allowed to 10 months before the 2016 election. What the hell am I missing here? Because I know I must be missing something. The GOP have proved over and over that they are flaming hypocrites with no morals or ethics. I’m not surprised at all.

I’m writing this post on an iPad with an RBG sticker on its cover that says “I Dissent”. I watched the documentary about her, RBG, right after I found out I had a Cushing's disease recurrence. Her toughness and bravery in the face of her illness, her late husband’s illness, the discrimination against her as a woman and a Jew as she attempted to gain employment after law school were so inspiring to me, that I chose her as my role model for managing the stress and difficulties of my illness. I’ve lit a candle as a way of symbolizing that that hypocrite Mitch McConnell can scheme and manipulate all he wants, but he'll never dim her light.

I just read a tweet that says there is a Hebrew saying that when translated means "May her memory be a revolution" and I feel like this certainly applies. What a woman.
That being said, I am completely aware I haven't fact-checked this but wanted to share it. I'm really hoping this is a true and correct translation, you know, because...the interwebs.
But nevertheless, if it's not? May her memory be a revolution for us all.

She fought the good fight. May she rest with God.
Her body wasn’t yet 50 degrees before the Repugnicans were ghoulishly tweeting their opportunities.

He looks stunned at the news. His response was appropriate, however given his history sadly I don’t think it will last a day.
He will still try to ram someone in.

I cried when I read this news. I keep trying to express my thoughts but I just can't. I turned off all the lights downstairs, left the family to fend for themselves and crawled under the covers around 8 pm. I don’t know how much more that I can handle.

McConnell has issued a statement that the dt nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the Senate. DH and I were talking about this and why? Why do it tonight? Why not wait until tomorrow or Monday. It costs him nothing to wait, and for what gain? By doing it an hour after the announcement reeks of rubbing people's faces in their "victory." It mostly serves to piss people off. Hopefully, those people potentially pissed off include Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Gorsuch who may actually be grieving the loss of a respected colleague and don't want to see their institution or a death of a friend politicized in this way. Because he has no soul and wants what he wants when he wants it.

Very sad about this news. She was a great woman, and her voice and point of view will be missed greatly on the Supreme Court.

We are all grieving in my family. I’m about to leave a group I’m in where a few of them are being horrible about her, if the others don’t speak up. I have hopes that enough Republican senators will refuse to vote on a replacement, that they’ll have to put an appointment on hold. He looks stunned at the news. His response was appropriate, however given his history sadly I don’t think it will last a day. He will still try to ram someone in. That was a very graceful response on his part. Therefore, I don’t believe for a moment that it was the first he’d heard of her passing. Honestly, if it was, I think he would have just responded with something like wow, oh no, I’m sorry, or the like. (If not with something wildly inappropriate/gleeful/derogatory.) There was no need to make a point of saying “this is the first I've heard of it.” Therefore, it’s most likely he heard about it right away, before the press did, and practiced saying something graceful in response when confronted. Which isn’t a terrible thing. I just don’t believe those were his first actual responses to the news. After four years of him, we know better.

I hope I do this right... From Barack Obama: / “ Sixty years ago, Ruth Bader Ginsburg applied to be a Supreme Court clerk. She’d studied at two of our finest law schools and had ringing recommendations. But because she was a woman, she was rejected. Ten years later, she sent her first brief to the Supreme Court––which led it to strike down a state law based on gender discrimination for the first time. And then, for nearly three decades, as the second woman ever to sit on the highest court in the land, she was a warrior for gender equality––someone who believed that equal justice under law only had meaning if it applied to every single American. Over a long career on both sides of the bench––as a relentless litigator and an incisive jurist––Justice Ginsburg helped us see that discrimination on the basis of sex isn’t about an abstract ideal of equality; that it doesn’t only harm women; that it has real consequences for all of us. It’s about who we are––and who we can be. Justice Ginsburg inspired the generations who followed her, from the tiniest trick-or-treaters to law students burning the midnight oil to the most powerful leaders in the land. Michelle and I admired her greatly, we’re profoundly thankful for the legacy she left this country, and we offer our gratitude and our condolences to her children and grandchildren tonight. Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought to the end, through her cancer, with unwavering faith in our democracy and its ideals. That’s how we remember her. But she also left instructions for how she wanted her legacy to be honored. Four and a half years ago, when Republicans refused to hold a hearing or an up-or-down vote on Merrick Garland, they invented the principle that the Senate shouldn’t fill an open seat on the Supreme Court before a new president was sworn in. A basic principle of the law––and of everyday fairness––is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what’s convenient or advantageous in the moment. The rule of law, the legitimacy of our courts, the fundamental workings of our democracy all depend on that basic principle. As votes are already being cast in this election, Republican Senators are now called to apply that standard. The questions before the Court now and in the coming years––with decisions that will determine whether or not our economy is fair, our society is just, women are treated equally, our planet survives, and our democracy endures––are too consequential to future generations for courts to be filled through anything less than an unimpeachable process.”

One of my fears is that the integrity of the SC will be compromised with a Trump appointment like Kavanaugh. If election results end up in the front of the SC, this country is f*****. Not necessarily. I mean, yeah, it would be terrible, BUT I *think* that it might drive up Dem turnout, and if we are lucky to win both, there is the option of expanding the court. Republicans would cry foul, but so what? If we get the WH and Senate, we must do what we need to do to ensure that our priorities don’t get tossed aside. Squeamish Dems should remember that Republicans didn’t ask questions during Trump’s impeachment trial, and also how McConnell treated Merrick Garland’s nomination. Also, McConnell might well force reluctant Senators to vote his way, but there is a small chance that a few won’t. It is very small, but not non-existent. So vote like never before. Vote in person if at all possible. Vote like your life depends on it.

I went snooping on a well-known conservative blog. There were hundreds of comments under an an announcement of RBG’s death. This comment sort of sums up the general feelings of the commenters. BTW, the Amy Barrett mentioned is Amy Coney Barrett, rumored to be one of the top Trump picks to replace RBG. Barrett is...interesting.
“1. Nominate Barrett tomorrow. 2. Cocaine Mitch schedule hearings in 2 weeks. 3. Let Dems call her a Roe destroying, bigoted Catholic succubus — their usual unhinged schtick. 4. Cut off debate, confirm her on a party line vote. 5. Film the screaming, hydrophobic Handmaid’s Tale wastrels scrabbling at the SC doors in psychic agony.
Don’t apologize, don’t equivocate, don’t delay: get it done. (Romney and Murkowski need to understand: you stand in the way, you get the metaphorical Fredo row boat ride.)
Grandstanding and fake Hamlet dithering will not be tolerated. Not now. Not when America is burning and the D’s have unleashed a no-holds-barred political and cultural Tong War. This is now about the clinical use of power: Mitch knows this drill.
Let the D media lapdogs howl with incandescent rage; let the D party leadership threaten reprisals that were already their scorched earth plan the minute they regain the whip hand.
We would have preferred comity, collegiality, respectful disagreement. They have chosen a coup attempt in plain sight, riots, metastasizing lunacy and anything goes political terrorism.
Win. Prepare for the next phase of hostilities.”

It is totally a legit reason to vote for trump. Like it or not he is the current head of the RNC. He is the person to be voted in if you would like to continue having the conservative agenda pushed on everyone in this country. He is a disgusting, rotten, awful man. But that’s who they’ve got to work with if the republicans want that seat filled by a conservative. So they are going to vote for him. Not Kanye, not any other ridiculous 3rd party option. Trump. Just like we’ve got Joe Biden to vote for if we want a more liberal agenda to be pushed into everyone. So we will vote for Joe. Not Kanye, and not some other 3rd party candidate who has zero chance to win. We will have to disagree on that. The cost of turning that Supreme Court seat to achieve a conservative court will be massive and not something we will recover from. When you blow something up to make sure you don't have to share it, it is still blown up for everyone, including yourselves. But again, we can agree to disagree. I’m curious what you see as a cost of turning the SC.
