I am very sad to see this. I know he was of a good age but he's been there my entire life, longer than my grandparents and parents. I am so sorry for the Queen.

Just watching the news, hopping from channel to channel, and the news readers are all noticeably upset.

There are people who have done much more for the world than he has. He lived to a ripe old age in comfort, what else can anyone of us expect.

Yes I thought so too. I was watching This Morning when they said they had to immediately go to the newsroom and held my breathe for a minute.

Oh shit! Although it wasn't unexpected, it's still a bit of a shock to read the headline.

Oh I'm so sad about this news. Not entirely unexpected but equally as sad at any time. He's been such a rock to the Queen, it's going to be devastating blow to her and the family. I so enjoyed seeing a different side to them both on the programme that was aired last night. A very sad day for the family but also to our country.

Such sad news today although not totally unexpected after his recent long spell in hospital. Philip and The Queen have been married for over 70 years, this is going to be a very sad and difficult time for her. My thoughts and prayers are with The Queen and her family.

And the vast majority of people do b.all for the world and far, far, less than he did. If you can't show some compassion on the death of someone, don't bother saying anything.

Philip has done an awful lot more than is immediately obvious, particularly for young people of the UK, over all the years. RIP Philip and thank you!

Not to be a pessimist, but I have been expecting this news for a couple of weeks now. I think this is very sad news, and I’m sad for the Queen.

A life well lived. I hope the Queen stays strong ( and certain members of the family cool their jets for a while to give her a break).

While all of that is true he was still a loved member of someone's family, they've lost him and that's sad. A little bit of humanity at these times is much more appropriate. Would you go on a thread and say this if a Pea had lost a family member?

As my mother always told me if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. Have a little respect for goodness sake. He might not mean anything to you as a non British and non commonwealth citizen but he was also someone's beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Do you go stand outside funerals smirking at people attending and say, "I don't get what the big deal is?" Yes, this is a message/conversation board and anyone is free to comment. Even if what they have to say is designed to irritate. It had only been 6 minutes before you needed to put the man and others expressing their condolences down. If his life wasn't worthy of your respect, scroll on. I just state my opinion.

Are you British? if not then you have no idea what he has done over the years or what he was faced with during his childhood.
