In 2002 my husband and I were lucky enough to be able to go to Buckingham Palace to a garden party and my husband had on his military uniform, he caught Price Philips eye and the next thing we know there is Prince Philip in front of us and wanting to talk to my husband about his military service. We chatted with him for a good 10 minutes. What a great memory.

I’m sorry for our UK peas and his family and indeed all the UK. I loved the picture shared here - the love was all over their faces.

He certainly was a character. 99 years, a life well-lived. Feel sorry for the Queen.

As a Canadian and part of the Commonwealth this is a sad loss. The Queen relied heavily on him and I fear she will feel so alone now and it may weaken her. So many couples of long standing, follow each other quickly.

Here is a lovely picture. Apparently he decided to play a trick on the Queen, and dressed as part of the Household Guard. This is her reaction when she spotted him.

I just hope that she's not alone at Windsor with no family there to comfort her because of Covid rules. They both isolated there with a very small number of personal staff ( their bubble) for the last 12 months. From the various statements and actions yesterday it seems that the palace are very aware of the need to abide by the rules. It would be awfully lonely for her as it has been for many that have lost a loved one during this pandemic. It's just a very sad situation all round.

I read that Charles visited but obviously I don't know if he's still there or who else may have come to Windsor. I agree, she'll need some family with her...we think of her as so strong but she's also an elderly woman who has lost the love of her life

There are people who have done much more for the world than he has. He lived to a ripe old age in comfort, what else can anyone of us expect. It is not imperative to say every random thought out loud.

The tribute from Prince Charles was sweet, especially when he refers to him as our dear Papa.

I wonder if this is why she got puppies after saying she wasn’t going to get anymore. Maybe she knew it was coming sooner rather than later and needed some comfort and distraction.

I believe they were a gift because we were in lockdown and they were both shielding. I'm sure they were great company for them both and will be in the days ahead. Puppies are certainly good company.

The lights that are shone on Niagara Falls will be purple this weekend, in memory of Prince Philip. I'm glad that she has some puppies to be with.

I really hope she is not alone.... She has 4 children (3 married) and 5 married adult grandchildren...so 16 adults and a whole bunch of younger grand & great grandchildren all living close by. I am sure they would not leave a 95yo women who just lost her life partner alone for any length of time. Then there's her ladies in waiting, and while they work for her, they are also friends. She is surrounded by close family who all clearly love her, I don't think anyone needs to worry about her being alone.

I really hope she is not alone.... I hope she’s not either but the press is saying that when Prince Philip was in the hospital the only family member that when to see him was Charles and he went only once , it seems so cold and strange to me.

I'd bet no one visited him much in the hospital, as the covid rules are probably strict and the royals don't want to be seen taking special favors if most people can't visit their loved ones in hospital.

In covid times and with everyone else not being able to see their loved ones in hospital, the press and the public perception definitely needed to be that no-one visited. If they did - we'll never know and I think it needs to be that way. However I do have a hard time imagining that his wife of 70 years didn't see him during that time. I like to think they managed it without anyone knowing.

I really hope she is not alone.... I hope she’s not either but the press is saying that when Prince Philip was in the hospital the only family member that when to see him was Charles and he went only once , it seems so cold and strange to me. We were in lockdown at the time and still are in many ways ,so hospital visitors and such like were restricted. It was up to each individual hospital to determine if any visits were allowed and then only under certain circumstances ( very seriously ill patients or near death ). Some didn't even allow that, which to me was rather insensitive. There was quite a number of people that expressed their negativity on social media when Prince Charles was allowed to visit him at the time. They are not known to make a habit of hospital visits even pre Covid, it's just their way I guess. In Prince Phillips case it was probably a " Don't make a fuss" kind of attitude which he was known for. No doubt there is probably some negative social media post about Prince Charles and Prince Edward and his wife ( that we know of) who visited the Queen yesterday. Covid rules at the moment is, there can be no meeting between households indoors. People can be very cruel when hiding behind a key board and express their views " if the rest of us can't why are they allowed to" I don't think she's totally alone, she does have personal staff there but it's not quite the same as having close family surrounding you as is usual for most of us in similar circumstances and especially at her age. She may be the Queen but she's also a nearly 95 year old that has just lost her husband after 73 years of marriage.
