@dottyscrapper, let’s not give it any more attention.

Seriously? Do you go stand outside funerals smirking at people attending and say, "I don't get what the big deal is?" Yes, this is a message/conversation board and anyone is free to comment. Even if what they have to say is designed to irritate. It had only been 6 minutes before you needed to put the man and others expressing their condolences down. If his life wasn't worthy of your respect, scroll on. I just state my opinion. Inappropriate, insensitive and unnecessary.

Selfishly I'm glad that my mother is too frail now to watch/understand the news because this would make her very sad. She's 94 and was born in Australia, so she remembers Princess Elizabeth's very first radio broadcast to the children. She loved the royal family. Well, most of them.

I'll repeat the sentiment I shared a while ago on the Myanmar thread. The Royal family is important to citizens of the Commonwealth and hold a special place in our lives and hearts. They are not 'celebrities' to us, like actors or sports personalities. We may not know them personally but we have a relationship with them nonetheless.

How sad. No matter the age it’s still a tremendous loss for all who loved him.

I am very sorry for the Queen. She has lost her best friend and confidante. My mother wasn’t one for showing emotion, but I still get misty eyed when she said after my father died “I’ve lost my best friend.”

As others said, it's a sad and huge loss to his family and country regardless of age. At 99, we all knew it would be coming but crossed fingers for 100. Don't we all do that for our loved ones? I hope the Queen can have all of her kids and grandkids around her in the coming days.
I wish his family peace and I hope he can have the farewell he deserves in the near future. I know a good chunk of their funeral plans will have to be changed given the current situation.

British peas, I'm going to suggest you avoid Twitter today, because after seeing that hellsite's take, Plicas seems nearly kind in comparison.
Though, Plicas, for the record, to just shrug your shoulders and essentially say, "well, he didn't do *that* much and was old," is to demonstrate a deep lack of understanding of the historical and sociological impact Prince Philip and his wife have had on the British empire, not to mention a lack of basic empathy.
My condolences to the British peas, and to the royal family.

What a loss for Her Majesty and so many others around the world. It's nice that they were able to have so much more time together last year than they would have in a normal year and I hope her family is vaccinated and able to be with her now.

Just saw this on FaceBook. You can’t help but smile at their enduring happiness with each other. It looks like Her Majesty is wearing the same jewellery too.

I was sad to see this news today. I'm very sorry for the whole family's loss, I cannot imagine losing a husband after 70 years... Hugs to all our UK peas today, may his memory be honored in a way that gives you all comfort and peace.

How sad. May he Rest In Peace. I am so sorry for the Royal family’s loss. Her majesty must be so devastated after 73 years of marriage, 4 children, 8 (?) grandchildren and several Great grandchildren.

I was really hoping that he could hang on for a little longer as 2021 has taken so much already. My prayers go out to the family and all those who loved him.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace.

I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a partner of 73 years. She’s the Queen, but she’s still a human being and has feelings. I’m sure there will be plenty of cruel and insensitive comments on social media today. Sometimes people suck.

I will admit that I knew almost nothing about Prince Philip until watching The Queen. Then I did some research (to try to sort out real from fiction) and found he was an extraordinary man who gave up quite a bit to support the queen and his country.

May his memory be a blessing.
I cannot imagine how hard it will be for the Queen in the coming months to go on without her literal life’s companion. 😥
What a loss for so many around the world.

It’s amazing how two pictures can tell a visual story about a love story that spanned so many decades. I’m so sad for the queen.

I think his service record in WWII alone was enough to earn our eternal gratitude and respect.
I think he served his Queen and his Country honorably throughout his life. He certainly was dashing! I'm sure their marriage wasn't perfect, but they certainly seemed devoted to each other for the long haul.

There are people who have done much more for the world than he has. He lived to a ripe old age in comfort, what else can anyone of us expect. Prince Philip was a decorated World War II veteran. He literally fought in active combat in actual battles. I would love to know who you think has done more for the world than the men who fought the Nazis.

As my mother always told me if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. Have a little respect for goodness sake. He might not mean anything to you as a non British and non commonwealth citizen but he was also someone's beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. My thoughts exactly. A sad day for his family.

I am sorry. It is never easy to lose someone, particularly after all those years. He had a difficult job and one he did admirably until he was 95!! Who else can say that? Not many people.
