100% with you on this frustration. While I’m annoyed for myself, I’m especially annoyed on behalf of the college and school kids who have already sacrificed so much. I mean, the college kids should be able to go on as normal but with masks, right? Certainly in an environment where every person there is old enough to choose the vaccine for themselves, we’re not going to wring our hands over the unvaccinated to the point where we cancel classes. Because I’ll tell you what, as resistant as I am to another year of teaching from behind a mask, I’m way more resistant to paying full college tuition for two kids to take online-only classes. Yeah, I doubt universities will want to cancel classes or move them online, but I can tell you as someone whose husband is on the administrative end of our university right now, they are starting to deal with both students and faculty who are getting nervous about being in-person with the new variants, and things are going to get hairy.

I'm not going to be constantly tracking what's a hot spot and what's not. I'm just masking up. People will continue to tell me I don't need to and I will continue to thank them and go about my business. I wouldn't think my wearing a mask would bother so many people but from the amount of comments I get, I guess it does. This whole thing is a lose/lose situation. The same people who couldn't stay in lockdown, are the same people who refuse to mask and the same people telling everyone else to "live your life" and "stay home if you are scared", but then feel the need to comment or give dirty looks to people who are wearing masks. FFS. Sadly you are 100% correct. Thankfully where I live, there are still enough people voluntarily masking in public places that no one gives me the side eye or makes any comments when I have one on.

My daughter's university announced this morning they're requiring masks in all buildings. They were conspicuously silent on any changes to classes. She will not go back if classes go online. I'm not sure she's going back with a mask requirement. Partly as she sees it as the first step when their county is still moderate (although surrounded by orange and red counties) and fully expects things to get way worse in the fall.

You realize you aren’t a lemming and can wear a mask even if not mandated right? That is the whole point of this post - individual choice and a note about CDC recommending people wear them regardless of mandates or vaccination status. I’ve done whatever the hell I wanted this whole time 🤣 I simply answered the question in the OP. Is your county headed that way? No, my county can’t do that. Not sure why you felt the need to respond to me that way. Because its all hunky dory to be rude now and obnoxious to those with differing opinions now, didn’t you read the other COVID high horse thread?

My county is only 39% vaccinated, but we also have no active cases and are listed as low risk. Masks aren't required and you won't find anybody wearing them. I fully expect the Delta variant to hit ND and my small county at some point this coming Fall and Winter, but there is no way a mask mandate will ever be put back in place. It *might* if the hospitals get overwhelmed and the biggest hospital employers in most major cities complain openly again. That’s what it took last time. With the amount unvaxxed (especially in some counties) the likelihood of the hospitals getting overwhelmed again is higher here. Sadly 39% is actually comparatively decent, looking at some rural counties numbers here, especially in the more west you are. Honestly, I think the mask mandate here came because businesses, especially big businesses, started requiring then. Our government didn't lead, the corporations did. I figure that is what it will take this time as well

I suspect it also helped that Trump didnt get re-elected, but that’s just me.

So now I am supposed to wear a mask, despite the fact that I am vaccinated, because people who aren’t vaccinated and aren’t wearing mask are getting sick? Nope.

Breakthrough infections in the vaccinated are a real thing too. That is an incredibly small percentage; certainly not something when compared to those unvaccinated. If the unvaccinated do not care why the heck should I. Nope not going back to masks.

I mean I’m not thrilled at having to wear one again either, but I will if I’m required to, and will probably voluntarily if I’m in a crowded place. I won’t be wearing one because I care about those who have deliberately chosen not to, but for those who still can’t yet be, because that’s the right thing to do.

Many people I see in the stores are still wearing masks. [EDIT: I checked the CDC site and my region is not doing well at all, lol. More confirmation.] My state and region are doing pretty well, but I've been doing a bit of reading and I am going to go back to masking up indoors at stores, and also cut back on what few public places I was going (restaurants, church, etc.)
I'm fully vaccinated, but I have a couple of big risk factors, and I think it's time to pop the mask back on, much as I hate it in the heat. (I understand it's more about protecting others, but studies seem to indicate that the mask will protect me to a point as well. Plus the mask keeps me from touching my face.)

I wore a mask at work today. In my entire shift, guess how many customers I saw wearing one?
3.
Out of probably 200 people. 🤷🏼♀️ It feels like what I’m doing won’t make a damn bit of difference. /whining vent

At some point, unvaccinated people will be cause them too many problems. But that is just my opinion; I have no evidence to back it up.

Disneyland is going to require them inside starting tomorrow- Friday.7/30 Disney world as well. Las Vegas is also back to requiring masks. I am hoping they won't close again... I am thisclose to my vacation. My county will probably have a mandate next week, although the health department immediately recommended it when the CDC updated its guidelines... despite the fact that (I think) we have one of the top national vaccination rates. All because some people couldn't see the bigger picture/didn't believe in science and germ theory/refused to suck it up and wear a mask for three weeks last spring.

I’m in Florida. Apparently, there is no COVID here as municipalities are prohibited from imposing mask mandates. Bars and restaurants are open full blast. Our governor is a Trumpster fire.

We are not yet. However in public if its crowded (like a store) I do wear one. I'm vaccinated but also have severe asthma so I'm not trying to catch any kind of Covid! My MIL is a retired nurse and wears one everywhere in public because of Delta. I'd say we see about 30% of people wearing them in public right now in my area.

LOL. Our governor said no one can make any ordinances. St. Louis county instituted a mask mandate on Monday and immmediately, our state's attorney general filed a lawsuit. LOL And the city council voted to overturn it, but the county executive said he was enforcing it anyway. Good times.
