Because it's not honest discussion otherwise. I addressed a specific lie. YOUR side can't insist the truth doesn't matter because, while also insisting on the truth from the opposing side. That's not honest discussion. Problem with your analogy is saying all lies are the same when they aren’t. Politicians lie, President Obama admitted as much. But there are lies and then there are lies. There different types of lies. Actually there are 7 types of lies. I looked it up. In order to do a true comparison one has to compare the same type of lies. trump is a pathological liar. He lies about everything. But as president he lied about two subjects that put people’s lives at risk and the country’s democracy at risk. From CLC… link” Compiling the Truth: A Resource to Refute Trump’s “Stolen Election” Lies”& From The Atlantic… link” All the President’s Lies About the Coronavirus”
I mean not even Nixon lied this bad. Now you find lies of this caliber that a Democrat has told then you can do a true comparison. Because until you do, your constant attempt to compare trump to President Biden and VP Harris looks kind of silly.

Anyone can go back and read the many political threads on this board and see some of the reasons why vaccine hold-outs continue to hold-out. I don't believe it is fully the Blue's fault. There is an element of trust since the beginning, before COVID was classified as a pandemic, where many people could see the bad data going in causing bad data being used to make decisions for public policy which in turn eroded a lot of public trust. Another quote from The Atlantic article.... It all boils down to a lack of trust and a respect for differences - which Blue's come across as having zero interest in building toward their Red neighbors. I’m SO tired of the “Those mean ole Liberals made me do it” *excuse* That’s just a huge bullshit “excuse” that doesn’t hold water in my opinion. It is even more stupid than the ‘mean ole Liberal *made* me vote for Trump even though I don’t like him that went around at election time. That is the most Juvenile ‘excuse’ I’ve heard. Grow the hell up and leave middle school and think for yourself and make your own decisions WITHOUT blaming your decision on anyone else. It’s bullshit to assign ‘sides’ in the USA to vaccines that have been widely accepted in many countries around the world to begin with. Do they think the UK or the EU approved vaccines simply to further either sides agenda into US politics? Really? The vaccine was developed & approved during one administration and distributed during the other. The vaccine does not have a side in US politics.

Your right - it is not your responsibility to convince grown adults to get vaccinated to ward off a virus. Let them live with their choices. The problem with letting them live with their choices is that in this particular situation, THEIR choice to not get vaccinated, especially those who can but refuse to, impacts other people. It impacts those who can't get vaccinated, either for health reasons or because they are too young. It impacts how long this virus is going to cause problems. It impacts the healthcare system when they become seriously ill. It's not just a matter of them living with their choices. I have someone close to me (let's call them MyPerson) who is currently refusing to get vaccinated, despite my efforts to convince them. (I've been vaccinated.) This frustrated me enough that it became a topic of conversation with my therapist during a session and she had some really interesting points (despite being pro-vaccine herself). I made the same argument to her about how not getting vaccinated doesn't just affect them, it's about the greater good. In turn, she asked me to examine how our upbringings were different. I was raised middle class and never had to fear that my family would get evicted, not be able to afford food or that I would get mercilessly teased for wearing knockoff brands of clothes at school. On the flip side, MyPerson grew up with all those anxieties I just listed, plus many more. My therapist pointed out that because I didn't have to expend energy thinking about whether I'd have the basics provided for me, I had the capacity to worry about the greater good, while MyPerson didn't. This led to a huge difference in how we think about the world. MyPerson is tribalistic, prioritizing the needs of their immediate circle over the general world at large, because to them, the world f*cked them over while their family/inner circle didn't. (This also leads to a distrust of authority figures, hence the vaccine skepticism.) On the other hand, I spend endless hours worrying about how my actions affect other people, which has its own downsides. I'm not saying this to excuse MyPerson's actions or to say that people who had a rough upbringing are incapable of prioritizing the greater good, because every person has a different story/struggle. (And of course, I understand that the needs of their immediate circle include health/longevity, which the vaccine would provide.) However, it helped me understand MyPerson's actions and decisions more, so I thought I'd share.

The TRUTH is, Trump discouraged his followers from taking the virus seriously, even without saying the words “COVID is a hoax.” And by and large, they believed him. Yeah, Trump lies, he's inarticulate, contradicts himself, says dumb things out loud and tries way too hard to overcome his insecurities and the untrue shots taken at him that it only ends up feeding into them. But none of that changes my answer to your question oh, that reminds me, I meant to add … HOW IN THE F#@%& do you justify harping on Democratic “lies” (let’s just call them stretches cuz that’s what they were) while you will go to your death defending the former guy and his tens of thousands of documented LIES? pixiechickBecause it's not honest discussion otherwise. Knowing your MO, you only wanted people to read what you think supports the headline. Just because you think I cherry picked a very good, important point made in the article, THAT WAS FACTUAL and it doesn’t support what you were trying to stretch the truth about, does not negate it sweetheart. It’s so funny watching you grasp and struggle with truth and reality. You are just so used to twisting, lying, posting bull crap and getting your stories all twisted that you are doing exactly as you posted above—being so used to believing the lies that you wouldn’t know truth if you were married to it. The FACT is, quoting the article YOU linked, immigrants are not mass spreading covid. And for the DeSantis point—go to any reliable news source. You’ll find it there. Over 300 deaths in a weeks span in Florida. Covid cases increased by 50% in the last few days. UNPRECEDENTED INCREASES. They have surpassed the cases that New York first had. Don’t be dumb Gia. If you’re going to keep using the Republican deflection and ignore the real issues of Covid, the variants, the areas responsible for the mass spread—then you really are a gross human being and really just need to STFU and let the real scientists and science lead the way.

I left only the facts from the NY Times. Care to comment on the facts? Oh, I will cheerfully stipulate that the administration should be doing a better job at the border. Now, your turn. Will you admit that millions of Americans failing to get vaccinated have contributed to the prolongation of this pandemic? She'll never admit that - it's always someone else's fault. In this case, it's immigrants and "blue America." Vaccination rates in most of Texas are abysmal, despite the fact that every person over 12 has been able to get vaccinated here for months. If every single person who had the ability to do so was vaccinated, migrants couldn't spread Covid here and citizens couldn't give it to each other. If you're unvaccinated and get Covid at this point, you have no one but yourself to blame. (There's a reason no one is freaking out about the possibility of migrants bringing measles or whooping cough, and it isn't because those things don't exist among migrant populations.)

Barker, of Branson, about 120 miles (190 kilometers) southwest of Osage Beach, understands the hesitancy. “I was strongly against getting the vaccine,” Barker said through labored breathing. “Just because we’re a strong conservative family.”
www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a37179237/missouri-delta-covid-surge-conservative/"How's that workin' out for ya?" - Dr. Phil PS - Barker, the word you need to replace "strong" with is "irrational." PPS - Glad you're not against that evil librul medicine and such now that you've screwed up and gotten hospitalized for your "beliefs".

Currently have a classmate fighting for her life in the ICU. Not vaccinated. 9 hours after begging for prayers/claiming a healing/other histrionics, a member of her family (also a classmate) is posting anti-vaccine shit. mind = blown

Well, but then you have people like my brother, who has taken to posting "vaccine hysteria" type memes on Facebook. I honestly don't know if he and my SIL have been vaxxed. But he, unlike my SIL, grew up with every material advantage and no survival insecurity whatsoever. So while I completely understand your therapist's position, and agree with her to a point, I believe there comes a time when people need to determine what kind of people they want to be, take responsibility and stop using "I had it rough growing up" narratives to rationalize their actions.

This seems like a reasonable explanation but I have a "My Person" in my life too who also had a hard childhood and this is not his worldview at all. He got the vaccine the day he became eligible for it. At some point we all have responsibility & agency in how we approach the world and think about other human beings regardless of the obstacles we've had to overcome. I'm sure this is something you've already mulled over and I'm not trying to convince you that your therapist was wrong or that Your Person is a bad guy but personally, I'm over the excuses people use to justify their own bad behavior in this global crisis.

We're not comparing lies like Biden or Democrats trying to preserve the fun of a surprise party. Biden outright lies. Quit finding reasons that it's okay if you're a Democrat. That's not honest. How many lives were put at risk because Fauci lied and said wearing a mask wouldn't help any? How many people died because of that? We'll never know because he is spared the hate of the left to investigate and dissect every utterance, every breath he takes into oblivion. How many people did Whitmer and Cuomo kill by mandating infected seniors go back into nursing homes? How come no one ever holds any of them accountable for their actions during these discussions?

Good lord, you are myopic. In every case you mention, the people involved were trying to make the best choices they could to save the most lives, with incomplete information or only several bad choices to choose from. Trump lies to make himself look better, stronger, more of a winner to his cult/donors.

Gia Lie #1 & #2 Cumuo nor Whitmer did NOT mandate that nursing homes take Covid positive patients. That’s a propaganda lie that was created by Michael Caputo and had been rated as false. Gia Lie #3 Gia, again purposely leaves out context. “EVIDENCE While Fauci, along with several other US health leaders, initially advised people not to wear masks, Fauci later said that he was concerned that there wouldn’t be enough protective equipment for health care workers. This was also early in the pandemic before public health experts fully knew how contagious the disease was and how it spread. Fauci explained that at that time, “we were not aware that 40 to 45% of people were asymptomatic, nor were we aware that a substantial proportion of people who get infected get infected from people who are without symptoms. That makes it overwhelmingly important for everyone to wear a mask.” “So when people say, ‘Well, why did you change your stance? And why are you emphasizing masks so much now when back then you didn't -- and in fact you even said you shouldn't because there was a shortage of masks?’ Well the data now are very, very clear,” he said. “We need to put that nonsense behind us about ‘well, they keep changing their minds,’ ” Fauci said. As to Fauci’s other comments, while he occasionally sought to reassure Americans in the very early days of the virus, he consistently advised to follow CDC guidelines and that things could change.” Nothing to be “held accountable” for in the context that you mean, because what you’ve stated are just proven lies. Those lies don’t need discussed.

Oh honey, bless your heart <pats hand>. Let’s go over how science works…again. Fauci didn’t “lie”. Fauci went with the best scientific knowledge at the time. When the knowledge changed, Fauci changed his statements to update that. Science is fluid, not frozen in time. Science represents the best knowledge at any given moment. We no longer view the body in terms of the four humours, nor do we treat syphillis with mercury. Scientific knowledge evolves. In addition, Covid is so new that new knowledge is evolving all the time. Instead of persisting in your right-wing-sourced media beliefs, perhaps consider how amazing it is the amount of knowledge has developed in such a short time. Cuomo is a big disappointment for sure, but the state of NY has chosen not to pursue any of the issues with nursing homes. So there’s nothing really to be done except create new policies. Knock yourself out if that’s an enterprise you’d like to pursue.

Just because you think I cherry picked a very good, important point made in the article, THAT WAS FACTUAL and it doesn’t support what you were trying to stretch the truth about, does not negate it sweetheart. You left this off your quote. "But local officials and shelter operators said they feared that the actual number of infections could be much higher." It came directly after your quote. It was the very next line. I don't THINK you cherry picked one single quote to dismiss the rest of the article, I KNOW. You not only cherry picked it, you left off a very important end to that particular quote. Why? Because it wouldn't help you dismiss the article if you included it. Some pretty important points that you just dismissed: "Mr. Rivero, 45, came down with the coronavirus and spent the next two weeks isolated, along with his still-healthy wife, at a hotel with about 200 other migrants who had tested positive for the virus or had been exposed to someone who did. “I was healthy until I got locked up,” he said.As the United States vaccinates larger numbers of people and several states begin to reopen after seeing lower infection rates, the failure of U.S. authorities to test adult migrants for the coronavirus in jam-packed border processing centers is creating a potential for new transmissions, public health officials and shelter operators warn, even among migrants who may have arrived healthy at America’s door."More than 170,000 migrants crossed the border in March — many coming from countries still grappling with high infection rates — but the Border Patrol is conducting no testing for the coronavirus during the several days that the newly arrived migrants are in U.S. custody except in cases where migrants show obvious symptoms.""In California’s Imperial Valley, where the Cuban couple was apprehended, 15 percent of the migrants released by the Border Patrol into the community between April 7 and April 13 tested positive for the virus — three times higher than the official average, according to the California Department of Social Services." And the operator of several large shelters where migrant children go after their release from border processing said one out of five children at those facilities was showing a positive test result on arrival. In theory, those who test positive could have infected other people before arriving here,” said Diego Piña Lopez, the program manager at Casa Alitas, a respite center for migrant families in Tucson, Ariz. Staff members there have been performing rapid coronavirus tests on dozens of migrant families each day after their release by the Border Patrol. Migrants who have a positive result are transferred to a shelter operated by the city. Others spend a night or two at the respite center and then board planes or buses to their destinations around the United States. Some of them could well have infections contracted in Border Patrol facilities that did not register on tests during the brief time they spent at the respite center, immigrant advocates warned, and could unknowingly expose others as they travel to join friends and family elsewhere in the country. People who were on the bus or in the cell with people who tested positive are going to test positive,” said Mark Lane, who runs a small humanitarian organization in San Diego, the Minority Humanitarian Foundation. “Uber drivers, taxi drivers and people like us, people who are not fully vaccinated, are getting exposed. Today I took two guys who were released and put them in a T.S.A. line with 500 people on it.”"The mayor in Yuma, Ariz., Douglas J. Nicholls, said that before the local medical center took over testing, migrants were being dropped off by the immigration agents at the side of a road or in parking lots — with no testing for the coronavirus.“It’s completely crazy,” Mr. Nicholls said. “ It’s not the way we should be handling things during a pandemic.” Last week, the Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton, filed a lawsuit alleging that the federal government was “encouraging the spread of Covid-19 at the border” by keeping potentially infected migrants housed closely together in government custody.
Mr. Paxton said in a statement that President Biden was demonstrating “outright disregard of the public health crisis” by “welcoming and encouraging mass gatherings” of migrants in border facilities."" Migrants themselves are expressing worry about spending so much time in close quarters after being apprehended by U.S. authorities. Jemerson Kener, a Brazilian who crossed the California border last month, tested positive for the coronavirus after spending four days at a crowded Border Patrol station. “In a pavilion meant for about 20, there must have been 100 men,” he said.""Cindy Mendez, a Honduran girl who crossed the border in February to join her mother in the United States, said she tested positive for the coronavirus after being housed for two weeks in a processing center in Donna, Texas, that in March was operating at more than 700 percent of the capacity it was designed for. “We were sleeping on the ground on top of each other,” she said.""Department of Homeland Security officials stressed that there were no facilities for testing efforts at Border Patrol processing stations, particularly for children, who have to be separated by gender and age. Children are now traveling to shelters in separate buses depending on their Covid-19 status, an improvement from past months. The agency’s focus has been on moving migrants out of custody faster, which is key to lowering their exposure, and the strategy has been successful: Data released on Tuesday showed that the number of unaccompanied minors in custody had dropped 80 percent in the past month. But even tracking those migrants who have the coronavirus can be tough.Andrea Rudnik, whose nonprofit organization, Team Brownsville, provides aid to a hotel for coronavirus isolation in Brownsville, Texas, said many migrants who tested positive had disappeared before their mandatory separation period was up. “They want to leave,” she said, “and if they realize, ‘Hey, I can just take a taxi from this hotel back to the bus station and get out of there,’ then they’ll do it."
Your one single cherry-picked quote does nothing to dismiss all of that. It is VERY clear YOU did not read the article or you would not have attempted to dismiss it. You did nothing but scan the article for something you could pull out to dismiss the article. YOU did not read the article or you would have known that one quote doesn't dismiss the whole article.
It’s so funny watching you grasp and struggle with truth and reality. You're projecting. It IS interesting to watch you struggle with truth and reality. And for the DeSantis point—go to any reliable news source. You’ll find it there. In other words, you made up that statistic simply to push your opinion.

He said that people didn't need them because it wouldn't really help. That we should leave them for medical staff and caregivers. THAT'S not how science works. If masks protect health care providers, masks protect people in general. If masks DON'T protect people in general, masks WON'T protect health care workers. You can NOT have it both ways. THAT'S not science.

I’m not the one posting lies and propaganda here like you are. I stated upthread that the FACT I pulled from the article YOU posted, busted your attempt to paint immigrants as mass spreaders of the virus. Context always escapes you. In fact, you even made the link “title” different from the article making it appear that the article itself was painting immigrants as mass spreaders. Liar much? What you lead with in posting just a title to the article was disingenuous, and you knew it. You got caught manipulating once again. I even stated, in that same post that the article mentions that they don’t know if immigrants brought it or that they contracted it upon arrival—the authorities cannot pin point it, so how can we or you? Not once did I negate or argue anything else the article mentioned. Simply playing by the rules like you post here. It’s crystal clear that you are continually posting false info, twisting or leaving out context, purposely posting out right lies. Your the one projecting sweetheart, not I. Nice try but epic failure on your part. I’ve actually posted factual, truthful information rebutting and shutting down your lies and disinformation. Wish I didn’t have to, but people like you are dangerous to society by posting the lies and disinformation. You’re the “trump” of pea land—just cannot tell the truth.
