Please stay safe, those of you in its path. DH and his brother are still trying to convince his parents to evacuate. The current projection has it going just to the east of them as a category 4 storm. His sister has to work at the hospital in New Orleans. She’s an NP responsible for 50 covid patients with one other nurse. It looks like it’s going to be bad.

Where will they evacuate the hospitals when there is no room anywhere in the southern states?People in New Orleans need to think back to Katrina and get out now.

My first thought was also where would they evacuate the hospital patients to? I was reading something yesterday about several extremely sick new Covid patients in Texas who had to be sent to other states because there was just no room in the hospitals anywhere in the state to take care of them. I hope people in Texas are reading about this in their newspapers and giving another thought to getting vaccinated. Please give it another thought! I can't imagine having a loved one needing hospitalization and having them sent to another state for treatment. And I'm sure this goes for people needing surgeries and non-Covid treatment as well. No room means no room. It puts enough pressure on a family to have a loved one in the hospital, but to have them sent out of state? My God people! Look at the reality you are creating!
I hope your inlaws listen to their sons and evacuate while they still can.

It is supposed to make landfall as a category 4 arriving late Saturday night early Sunday morning and according to the officials is supposed to be worse than last year’s Laura
I’m listening to the governor and his advisors on the storm at this moment. (A press conference)

I fear for the safety of everyone in Louisiana especially all my high school classmates who still live there. And Sunday is the anniversary of when Katrina hit.

Thank goodness. They just agreed to evacuate and are now packing. BIL is going to drive them to his home in Memphis.
ETA. They lost everything in Katrina. They are so heartbroken right now thinking it could happen again.

My prayers are with Louisiana and all those in Ida's path. We were very lucky but after seeing the destruction first hand that Harvey caused, I hope everyone in the path is heading to safety.

Louisiana doesn't need this, especially after the repeated blows of last season.
I feel more than a little selfish that I'm glad it doesn't appear it will hit further west (aka, me). At least they don't THINK it will change course - you never know with Mother Nature. We're all seeing our 4 year FB memories filled with Harvey, so there's an understandable feeling of unease even though we're outside the come.

I fear for the safety of everyone in Louisiana especially all my high school classmates who still live there. And Sunday is the anniversary of when Katrina hit. We have so many friends and family over there. It also looks like parts are Miss, as far Hattiesburg and Jackson could get Cat. 1 winds even that far inland. Very eerie that Sunday is the 16th anniversary of Katrina.

I am really on edge. DS is in college in New Orleans. He already has his evac bag packed and has a plan in place, but since he works for student housing he will most likely have to help if they evacuate campus before he can leave.
And DD's girlfriend lives near Jackson so she could get some weather, just another stress (she's a HS teacher that had to go virtual this week because half the school is quarantined).
We are far enough north we will probably just get some rain.
Thinking good thoughts for everyone on the coast and in Ida's path.

I was so disgusted w/ our local weatherman last night. He was showing the projected path of the storm and whining about the fact that we weren't going to get any rain out of it. While it is true we desperately need rain, I couldn't believe that he was not even trying to pretend that he had any concern for the people who are about to take a direct hit from the storm.
I certainly hope that everyone who needs to evacuate can do so safely.

Hoping that it lessens in intensity and that people are evacuating that can and that it won’t be too bad. It’s looking pretty scary though.

16 years to the day after Katrina, makes me nuts thinking about it. I want it to dissipate or turn west before it hits.

I’m in southwest Mississippi. We were here for Katrina and we’re staying for Ida. If it stays on its current projected path, we should be ok. We’re expecting to lose power, but we’re hoping that’ll be the worst of it.

SIL is hunkered down at the hospital. They can't evacuate the patients because there are no available beds to put them in elsewhere. They could really use your prayers.
I hope everyone's families stay safe.

Well, I hope *they* have learned from last time and are providing transportation options for those who don’t have transportation to evacuate?

DH left early this morning to go down and get DS and bring him home. This storm is just too big and DS is pretty scared.
They should be headed back north by early afternoon (I hope). I just pray that they get home safely.

I just pray that they get home safely. So glad your DH is going to bring your DS home. I pray that their trip home is safe and that the traffic has thinned out somewhat for them. The friends we know - who lost everything in Katrina - had a change of heart and are evacuating towards Houston. I can't even begin to imagine the terror they are feeling at the moment, knowing firsthand what might happen.

Please forgive me but I’m typing this on my phone as he is speaking.
The governor is speaking again right now. Terrebonne Parish is the expected spot. The Hurricane can be up to 300 miles long. Expected to be one of the strongest to hit the state since the 1850’s. 137 coach buses are spread out 19 transit buses have been transferring from nursing homes, by Monday there will be another 37 or 38 coaches available. 164 high water vehicles, 62 boats, 34 helicopters ready to assist. 10,000 lineman are staged will get up to 20,000 if necessary.
There is a hurricane risk reduction system in place around Jefferson and Orleans Parish that we didn’t have during Hurricane Katrina. There are more protections in place today than we have ever had before and they will be tested like they’ve not been tested. (According to Governor John Bel Edwards)

DS sent me a text after DH got him. Took them an hour and a half to get out of the city. They are over the causeway and headed north. Should be home late evening.
I am really hoping the powers that be in the city learned the lessons of Katrina and have a good plan in place to evacuate those who want to leave but lack the resources/transportation to get out on their own.
Hope all of our gulf coast Peas stay safe.

It’s a brand new facility that’s built up with generators up high. So they should be fine.

My family and my ex-husband's family are in Terrebonne Parish. Everyone is staying and choosing to ride it out. My mom is 85 and lives alone. I am absolutely terrified for her. I barely slept last night.

Hope it does not deliver what is anticipated.
I survived Hurricane Carla (winds of 145 mph). It is scary, scary to be in such a storm. Carla was the only time my family went to a shelter for the storm. My father and brother stayed in our farm house and in the midst of the storm joined Mom and the daughters at the local school for shelter. My brother said, "When the house began to shake, Daddy said, "Let's go check on the girls.""
