He works in electric power/utilities field. I took a few photos of the crew standing in the morning light meeting to discuss game plan and gearing up. Seeing all of their vehicles lining up in a caravan to head down ❤️❤️❤️ They write their names/spouses phone numbers in permanent market on their arms. 😭😭😭 I just got home and now having a little selfish cry. Please don't feel selfish. You are worried and have every right to be. What your DH and the others in the crews are doing is very selfless, and so very much appreciated. Having been on the receiving end of the help of these crews after H. Ike (no power for 2 weeks), I can tell you firsthand just how thankful the residents in these areas are for their assistance. Will add your DH and all the crews coming to assist to my prayers, as well as the families of these crews who sit at home and wait for word. Hugs to you all. ❤️❤️❤️ |

It was only a couple of mph shy though, and with what amounts to a double eye wall because it appears to have been in an eye wall replacement cycle. Kept it from strengthening but that's about it. Looks like weather Channel lost comm with grand isle.  |

Grand Isle wind gauge broke at 148 mph and the video camera that was broadcasting went under water. |

A guy in GI (Joshua Legg) was live streaming before landfall and said his weather vane broke at 168 mph.

Praying for everyone in the path! My uncle lives in Belle Chase and thankfully he came to Texas to ride this out. He lost so much with Katrina that I hope he is able to dodge any bad damage.

My niece and sister are both in Houma. They said the winds are just awful. Trees are falling, shingles are flying. My niece says her fence is barely hanging on.
I just saw a video on Facebook of a building near downtown Houma and the whole roof flew off.

Evacuation is such a complex issue. And unless people live it they really can’t grasp the complexities. Now add Covid to the mix? Unbelievable issues. |

When they were East Coast last week, I saw their company’s truck in a Weather Channel shot, but it wasn’t close enough to see who they were! |

I fear for both of my former cities, NOLA and Baton Rouge. Yep. I don't know many in BR any more, but several close family friends are in NOLA and only one of those families evacuated - even that one wasn't everyone since the husband is an emergency responder. Lake Charles is where I have more ties and friends, and I'm having a struggle with the fact that in spite of my fears for everyone where Ida is striking, I can't help but be relieved for LC. And yes, that makes me feel like a terrible person, but it's not that I wish this on ANYONE. But sure, global warming is just a hoax. |

I feel guilty about being glad they were spared. But as my brother said, it's still early in the hurricane season. LC can still get hit. *sigh* |

I don't think it is bad to feel relieved when people you know and love are spared. You can still be compassionate to those hit hard while being thankful others are okay.
