Hurricane Ida

My first thought was also where would they evacuate the hospital patients to? I was reading something yesterday about several extremely sick new Covid patients in Texas who had to be sent to other states because there was just no room in the hospitals anywhere in the state to take care of them. I hope people in Texas are reading about this in their newspapers and giving another thought to getting vaccinated. Please give it another thought! I can't imagine having a loved one needing hospitalization and having them sent to another state for treatment. And I'm sure this goes for people needing surgeries and non-Covid treatment as well. No room means no room. It puts enough pressure on a family to have a loved one in the hospital, but to have them sent out of state? My God people! Look at the reality you are creating!

I hope your inlaws listen to their sons and evacuate while they still can.

I fear for the safety of everyone in Louisiana especially all my high school classmates who still live there.

And Sunday is the anniversary of when Katrina hit.

My prayers are with Louisiana and all those in Ida's path. We were very lucky but after seeing the destruction first hand that Harvey caused, I hope everyone in the path is heading to safety.

Oh my - the last thing Louisiana and neighboring states need. So hope those in the path evacuate early!

I am really on edge. DS is in college in New Orleans. He already has his evac bag packed and has a plan in place, but since he works for student housing he will most likely have to help if they evacuate campus before he can leave.

And DD's girlfriend lives near Jackson so she could get some weather, just another stress (she's a HS teacher that had to go virtual this week because half the school is quarantined).

We are far enough north we will probably just get some rain.

Thinking good thoughts for everyone on the coast and in Ida's path.

Hoping that it lessens in intensity and that people are evacuating that can and that it won’t be too bad. It’s looking pretty scary though.

I’m in southwest Mississippi. We were here for Katrina and we’re staying for Ida. If it stays on its current projected path, we should be ok. We’re expecting to lose power, but we’re hoping that’ll be the worst of it.

DH left early this morning to go down and get DS and bring him home. This storm is just too big and DS is pretty scared.

They should be headed back north by early afternoon (I hope). I just pray that they get home safely.

The governor is speaking again right now. Terrebonne Parish is the expected spot. The Hurricane can be up to 300 miles long. Expected to be one of the strongest to hit the state since the 1850’s. 137 coach buses are spread out 19 transit buses have been transferring from nursing homes, by Monday there will be another 37 or 38 coaches available. 164 high water vehicles, 62 boats, 34 helicopters ready to assist. 10,000 lineman are staged will get up to 20,000 if necessary.


There is a hurricane risk reduction system in place around Jefferson and Orleans Parish that we didn’t have during Hurricane Katrina. There are more protections in place today than we have ever had before and they will be tested like they’ve not been tested. (According to Governor John Bel Edwards)

I survived Hurricane Carla (winds of 145 mph). It is scary, scary to be in such a storm. Carla was the only time my family went to a shelter for the storm. My father and brother stayed in our farm house and in the midst of the storm joined Mom and the daughters at the local school for shelter.
