Ugh. I really hope we don't start seeing more and more grocery shortages. We spent so much more money on groceries when that was happening last year. There was no buying generic or buying on sale or buying at a store with lower prices. You had to just buy what was available when it was available. And sometimes that meant that ingredients we needed for a meal we had planned wouldn't be available, so then we'd be changing our meal plan mid-shopping, which tended to lead to us buying more expensive convenience items, too. I know that sounds like such a spoiled first world problem sort of whine, and I'm sorry for that. We work really hard to stick to a budget that we know does well for us, so first world problem or not, I do stress a bit when I see us forking out more money than we've budgeted week after week.

If I was in the northern hemisphere I would start stocking up on everything. It looks like there might be a seasonal element to covid. If so, the warehousing, freight and logistics sector might be impacted by having large numbers of people testing positive or having to isolate, or having warehouses being exposure sites. This might lead to delivery delays. Add that to normal winter and Christmas needs, or worse, winter storm needs, and having a few extras on hand is probably worth it for the peace of mind alone. Also shop and ship early for Christmas.

Furniture!!! We ordered new family room furniture 3 months ago. When we ordered, they said it might take up to 8 months to come in. Good thing we ordered early... DS is getting married next summer. We offered our family room furniture (couch, love seat, 2 end tables and a coffee table, plus lamps) to them to help them save some $. The timing should work out, hopefully!

Do you know if there is something going on with Wegman's brand coffee? We buy the large can, half caff and it's been out for weeks. For some reason the small cans are in. I know I read something about coffee being affected, I can't remember, I want to say had something to do with issues in South America - not sure if it is pandemic related or more climate. I don't actually go to store, so not sure, but haven't heard anything from my shopper. I did hear from friends about home improvement projects being stalled because of waiting for things like vanities and other furniture-type parts. I have no idea! I'm not a coffee drinker, so I don't pay attention. I will have to ask someone from grocery department when I work this weekend. No worries! I was just curious. I love Wegmans.

Well this week's grocery shopping was quite different than last week. I had NO problem last week but this week:
-no chicken breasts in the meat case, only organic at $7/lb - ugh, and even not much of that -no regular cream cheese, only flavored or diet -got the last bag of my son's fav frozen chicken -saw lots of holes in general
Same time and day as last week. I'm guessing this will be a regular grocery thing for a long while - hit and miss what is and isn't in the store. I am grateful we have the money to afford the higher end items if that is all there is.

I've found canned pumpkin at both Fred Meyer and Target this week... but only the smaller cans. The sugar pumpkin I grew this year is tiny, so I bought the canned stuff as back up for Thanksgiving.

There are huge supply chain problems happening. And it isn't just what the consumer sees on (or in our case, not on) the shelf.
As a consumer, when I went to the grocery yesterday, there were lots of gaps, with signs stating that it was supply chain issues.
There were zero (!) juice boxes. No Yoohoos. No fruit juice boxes. Very few small bottled waters.
Almost no chicken, other than frozen raw wings.
Dairy was spotty.
Prices were noticeably higher than even just last month. $5.99 for a single honeydew melon. All the prices have risen, it seems. (And they'll never go back down now).
But on the store worker end, we are also seeing supply chain problems. Having trouble getting plastic products. Think hangers in a clothing store. Think the little plastic sizers that go on the hangers. We have product sitting in the back of the warehouse because there are no hangers to use to put them on the sales floor.
