And you know what? It’s fine. I haven’t gotten it. Well that's ok then, isn't it? I can't decide if you're really this dense or just trolling at this point. Not trolling at all. I read posts here and I’m flabbergasted and appalled by the mandates and restrictions peas are posting about. Just presenting the view from somewhere else. It’s not like that everywhere. I’ve been to 25 states in 2020-2021 and haven’t encountered the level of restrictions and masking the peas talk about. We have purposely avoided the Northeast and Cali, Wash state, and Oregon. Everywhere else has been fine. Easy to travel, easy to do things, and not batshit crazy about restrictions. I feel sad that people are living with the level of anxiety in the OP. I try to comprehend being that upset at encountering an unmasked person and just can’t. This place has become a bit of an echo chamber lately and y’all just sit around and validate the anxiety and anger all the time. Meanwhile the rest of us have moved on.

We still have a mask mandate in place and you know what, it’s fine. I’m not afraid, nor is anyone I know. My life is normal, except that I wear a mask when I’m in public. BFD.
I can’t imagine being so afraid of masks that I’d refuse to go to states because people wear masks there.

In my area I see a good portion of the public wearing masks in indoor public places. I have also seen a few not wearing them. All the workers I have encountered wear them also. I appreciate every single one of the those mask wears. Whether they do it because they have to, or because it's the right thing to do, I don't care. I genuinely appreciate them.

I feel like we are living in completely different worlds sometimes. No one wears masks here. No mask mandates. No one asks about your vax status. No showing your papers anywhere. I saw Hamilton last week with 4,000 of my closest friends. No showing anything to get in. I only even think about Covid when I read threads on here. And you know what? It’s fine. I haven’t gotten it. I don’t know anyone who’s had a serious case of it or had lasting effects from it or has died. It’s lovely to not be afraid all the time 🤷🏻♀️ 4,000 of your closest friends? Exactly how many friends do you have? The funny thing about COVID is that you might have had it and do t know. You might even have it right now. We’ve all repeated the words ‘asymptomatic’ to you, but you clearly don’t care about your fellow humans. Must be great to go around life so selfishly. And the rest of us aren’t afraid, we’re just considerate and caring individuals. Yes. This. 100% this.

Went to a crowded indoor craft show last night. Every single vendor and every single customer I saw (which was over 1000) was properly masked and there were no signs of anxiety there either. My friends and I even commented on it at dinner later.

I even said I wear them when I have to and don’t throw a fit about it, so I’m not sure what you’re responding to. I do think that if you react to an unmasked person with the amount of anxiety the OP seems to have, then you need mental health help.

I’m sorry you were in this situation especially since he sounds under 5 which means you know he’s not vaccinated. You are the only one who can decide what you’re comfortable doing and it’s almost impossible to predict people’s behavior. Does your store provide masks for people who may have forgotten and don’t want to wait for a cashier who is comfortable with their open faces? Yes we provide masks. Someone had approached her with masks and she said no. My province Ontario is now letting age 5 and up get vaccinated.

It’s such a shame that mandates aren’t nationwide. Los Angeles requires proof of vaccine AND masks (city, not county). But masks are worn by almost everyone. I was at Home Depot yesterday and one guy wasn’t wearing a mask and was asked to leave when he couldn’t produce one. I wanted to clap but my DH stopped me. I'm in Canada and it's up to each Province. The Liberals who lead Federal government did at the start of this want o be able to nationwide mandate but the other parties said no.

Not in grocery stores. In Ontario, Canada, we can ask for them to wear a mask. They can say no. We can't enforce it. At places like restaurants, then yes they are suppose to enforce it unless the person has an exemption.

Masks are required here but you can get an exemption. I'm in the same province as the op.
I went to our credit union yesterday and the guy in front of me wasn't wearing a mask. He was a big, biker looking dude. Quite heavy. He may have had a medical exemption but no one asked.
I then went to the grocery store and there was an older lady in front of me without a mask. Again, she may have had an exemption but no one asked.
In all fairness, just about everyone here does wear a mask.

OntarioScrapper I’m sorry that you had that experience with such an inconsiderate person in your store. It really can be challenging to work with the public, and I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be right now. I live in Western Washington, so we have mask mandates here, and the vast majority of people comply. I do occasionally see people in stores without a mask on, and I can’t help but think of how rude and inconsiderate that behavior is toward the employees in the store. These employees often see hundreds of people a day, and they manage to wear masks for an entire shift, but a customer can’t be bothered to wear a mask for a few minutes?!? It’s incredibly rude.

I know people who have died from Covid. I know people who have long Covid. My long time friend has long Covid. She caught Covid last December before we had vaccines. She was in the hospital for 2 months. She has been back twice. She now has issues with breathing. So it might be nice of your to say you can live as you please, but there are others who can not. There have been families devasted by this virus that really doesn't care who you are. It's a virus. I do hope you stay safe but frankly it's rude of you to say "It's lovely to not be afraid all the time". Please do NOT ever say this to someone in the medical field who have been working tirelessly to save anyone who have contracted this virus that can be deadly. It's not like we know before hand if we will survive if we catch Covid. I had a nurse who I was cashing out at my grocery store yesterday. She overheard one of my co workers saying someone wouldn't take the mask she tried to hand to them. This nurse was livid. She had every right to be considering what she has gone through during this pandemic.

I work in a grocery store No Frills. Yesterday a co worker came up to me and asked if I would take a customer not wearing a mask. T and P both did not want to take her which is their right for a safe work environment. Someone was on break and we have one person who stays at self checkout. The lady had a full cart. So I said yes. I did not realize she would be having a young boy with her. A boy who would not stay still. A boy who had a transformer toy which he took all around my area making noises without a mask on. One time the mom asked him to stay still so as to not spread germs. I struck up a conversation with him about Transformers (Bumblebee is my favourite) in hopes he would stay still. Nope. So as she packed and I couldn't call for another customer, I sanitized everything. Nope. Never again. She can haul her overflowing cart to the self check out next time. I felt so uncomfortable after this. The new variant is loose in my province. Our numbers went over 1000 cases a day which is a big deal for us (Ontario, Canada). I just saw in the news another province New Brunswick, is now requiring proof of vaccination for grocery store shopping. They are a small province. This has never been done before so it must be concerning for them. Stay Safe everyone. I totally validate you. But I don't understand - masks are required in Ontario. Why was she allowed in the store, let alone being served through a cash?? I just got croissants at my favourite cafe and they had a big sign up saying they were being harassed and intimidated (masks and vax required) and now had a security camera as a result. I thought the city I live in was better than that, but apparently not. I went to a neighbourhood outdoor concert last night (how you know we're Canadians lol - going to an outdoor concert in -5) that required masks and nearly half the people took their mask off. So frustrating. I didn't realize NB is requiring vaccination for grocery shopping. My relatives are there and a few aren't vaccinated, so I wonder how they'll manage. We can't enforce someone to wear a mask. We can offer one which we do. For most people it's because they forgot. It happens. For some they say they are medically exempt. For this woman she just said No and her young son had no mask. Last week one of my co workers ask a woman if she'd put on a mask. This woman just started screaming at her. Spit flying out of her mouth. She could've just said no. Instead my co worker stood behind the plexiglass and called a manager over. Woman screamed at the manager. The owner was in the store and came over. He was able to calm her down and told her that we are required to ask but she has the option to say No. Before she left she screamed once more at my co worker. I saw the news about NB yesterday. Seems to just have happened. I was a bit surprised since it's a grocery store and no one is actually eating in the store. I went to an outdoor concert in September. We were spread out in "pods" and everyone wore their masks the whole time. We just sang along to Serena Ryder in our masks.

They can wait or go elsewhere or at this point, quite frankly, they can just fuck off. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ I don't know if she is unvaxxed. Just that she won't wear a mask and her young son didn't have a mask on. Though afterwards I thought, it probably meant she isn't. She can use the self checkout next time. We have 5 of those.

Just to clarify as I live in New Brunswick - Our new winter plan comes into effect tonight in level 1. This level is not much different than our current yellow alert level. Masks are mandatory in all indoor public spaces and in outdoor spaces if physical distancing cannot be maintained. Business/retail can CHOOSE to either open with physical distancing OR proof of vaccination for all vaccine eligible patrons. Restaurants are the exception…patrons must show proof of vaccination. How did this person get in without masking? Thanks for clarifying what's going on in NB. In Ontario, we can ask for someone to take a mask (we have them at each cash) in a grocery store. We aren't required to enforce it at least at my store. I don't know if it's a company wide policy or there has been issues before. I started working at my No Frills in September. Most people are wearing masks. Most people who we approach with a mask will take it.

I live in western Illinois, on the border with Iowa. Illinois has indoor mask mandates; Iowa does not. I was in a store in Iowa yesterday and I wore my mask. I would say that in the last couple of months there have been more people wearing masks in Iowa than there were before, probably because the number of cases has been rising again.
A few months ago I attended a visitation at a funeral home in Iowa. They had a sign up indicating that the family had requested people wear masks. One of my friends was coming out as I was going in - her comment was that the Illinois people were wearing masks, the Iowa people were generally not. That has been true for some time. My family and friends who live in Iowa usually wear masks, despite the lack of mandates (and don’t have much positive to say about their iowa governor and how she has handled the pandemic).
I don’t consider myself to be afraid - I just really don’t want to get sick, to possibly have lasting damage from COVID, or to potentially have it and unknowingly pass it on to anyone else. I have family members who are super high risk, immune-compromised, and dealing with multiple conditions that put them at risk. I know people who have lost spouses and parents, and people who spent weeks sick, in the hospital and in one case, on a ventilator for weeks.
I also read about the rising cases in other parts of the world, watch the map that shows what the trend is in the individual states, and listen to the nurses in my family who have first-hand experience with COVID patients. Locally, the positivity rate has gone up a lot in the past week, and is higher in the Iowa county across the river than in my county in Illinois. About a quarter of the new cases in the last couple days are children and teens.
It’s easy to say you’re "over COVID" - but it isn’t done with us. I am, however, very much over the people who act like it’s no big deal and/or refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated.

I can’t imagine being so afraid of masks that I’d refuse to go to states because people wear masks there. Exactly that. Still boogles my mind that people make decisions where to go based on whether there is a mask mandate in place. Well actually, if I lived in the US, I would totally decide where to travel based on whether there is a mask mandate or not - but my decision would be the opposite to myshelly's. I would actively avoid any state that did not have a mask mandate. Imagine living in a country where you're closing in on 800,000 deaths and thinking "it's fine" and celebrating that your state or county isn't doing a few simple things to help prevent more deaths. I for one am happy to live in a state that requires masks and proof of vaccinations almost everywhere.

I am planning on travelling to Vegas (not a favorite place at all) during my winter getaway to the SW to see Sting, Gaga, and Adele...all in separate residencies there. Not thrilled because everything is so lax there re: covid, but I don't gamble, will dine outdoors, and will mask myself up during the concerts. After last winter, I know for my own mental health that I HAVE to get out of Seattle at some point this winter. I've never been more seriously depressed in my life as I was last fall and winter. Santa Fe, Taos, Vegas (for shows), and Palm Springs/Desert are calling my name. Anywhere with more light/less gloom and gray than up here works.

I have had customers who have told me that they are grateful that I am working there so that they can get groceries. There is a shortage of workers for jobs like this because of how some customers have treated the workers and some customers just not willing to wear a mask. I got this job back in September. During my interview I was asked if I was okay to work in this environment. I was told most customers are good about the pandemic. Which has been true thank goodness. We are all just trying to get through this together!

Fortino's and Metro may just have that has their own rules.
