That was in response to you saying "That was 70% of adults with at least one shot in August. I’m talking about fully-vaxxed. And children in approved age groups are part of the population and vaccine count." I don't know what the purpose is, but it's clearly not "following the science". It did occur to me that if that was the case he would have mandated it before when we had even less vaccinated. But even then he said he would not do that. Oh, I don't know... keep his word? follow the science....? I'm not raging, I'm just commenting on it. Providing current data has nothing to do with my goals. So “not yours” is a mistaken interpretation by you. And if Biden is not following the science, then what is he following? Yes, he did say he wouldn’t impose a mandate, but he also said he instead wanted to “encourage people to do the right thing.” Since encouraging and incentivizing have proven ineffective for 80 million or so people, then he imposed a mandate. I’d rather have a president who can adapt to changing circumstances and alter his prior decision so he can serve public interest and save lives. That's infinitely better than have one who is absolutely wedded to a notion even when a situation demands a different action. So we're back to "if public health emergency is really the basis of a mandate, then why the 3-month gap and why is it not being implemented with consistency across the board?" among the other shady things previously listed. Including the NEED for a mandate that has been artificially created. And if Biden is not following the science, then what is he following? I don't know, but the timing on his about face does seem oddly political.

Biden set the mandates. That's a fact, not an opinion. If Biden agreed with you that it's on the individual to get vaccinated and so is the consequence of not, he would have stuck to his word and not set mandates. That's a fact, not an opinion. The reality is: caveats put into the mandates by Biden contradict the so called importance of the mandates. That's a fact, not an opinion. The opinion part is not that Biden set the mandates-he did. You think that they were wrong; that is an opinion. This has now veered sharply into hair-splitting absurdity. I’ll make it simple; your opinion is that vaccine mandates are bad, and my opinion is that they were necessary. It's not splitting hairs. It's you ignoring the facts stated by focusing on and dismissing an opinion. I also said "That doesn't do anything to prevent or even explain away the deaths in companies of less than 100." Not an opinion. and "The reality is: caveats put in the mandates by Biden contradict the so called importance of the mandates." Also not an opinion. Another fact. After saying he wouldn't mandate vaccines, Biden put mandates in place when the fallout hit from his colossal failure in Afghanistan that left so many people behind. Right when he was getting condemnation from all sides that wouldn't let up. When the fallout from refusing to listen to his military experts cost people their lives. Again, right when he was getting condemnation from all sides that wouldn't let up. Interesting timing for something that he "wasn't going to do".

Here are the realities and facts that you continue to ignore. The private company and the health care workers mandate will cover 2/3 of all workers. The private company one was aimed at companies with more than 100 employees because they have the structure and employees to administer a mandate. What number would be better? 50? 150? 200? Except for obstructionist Republican governors, there's noting stopping smaller companies from imposing their own vaccine mandates. Also this www.nytimes.com/2021/11/04/business/biden-vaccine-mandate-osha.htmlThe Labor Department said it had opened a 30-day comment period on whether it should extend the rules to smaller companies.
“While I would have much preferred that requirements not become necessary, too many people remain unvaccinated for us to get out of this pandemic for good,” Mr. Biden said in a statement.
Still, with the country facing shipping delays and shortages caused by supply chain problems, the January deadline allows retailers and logistics companies, both in need of employees, to get through the holiday shopping season before instituting the requirements.
The rule does, however, instruct employers to require masks for unvaccinated workers by Dec. 5.
The administration is trying to balance the economy and the health and safety of Americans. Dates were pushed back as a compromise to Republicans. Caveats were put in because of pushback from Republicans. Here's an excellent explanation for the mandate apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-joe-biden-business-health-religion-0b44d42dc4cb54e213a8b987738b833a“Workplace exposures have played a central role in driving the pandemic,” said David Michaels, a former OSHA chief who is a professor of public health at George Washington University. “Exposed at work, workers bring home the virus. They infect their children, they infect their parents, they infect their community.”
Michaels called the rules an important step toward stopping virus transmission and gradually suppressing COVID.And this should be obvious but the goal of the health care worker mandate is to save lives. If nursing home employees had been vaccinated at more than 80% earlier, 700 lives would have been saved. The timing with Afghanistan is pure speculation and most likely, a coincidence. More likely, the timing was related to the expected full approval for Pfizer by the FDA. www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/11/04/fact-sheet-biden-administration-announces-details-of-two-major-vaccination-policies/And I will ask again, if not vaccine mandates then what? With the start of winter, omicron on the rise, nothing is not an option. Do you or any other Republicans have any useful ideas or just criticism?

I don't know, but the timing on his about face does seem oddly political. Well, of course there’s a gap! Proposed rules by gov’t agencies have to be published in the Federal Register so that the public or any other agency with interest can review the rule and comment. Proposed rules also undergo congressional review. That has been the law and procedure for as long as I can remember. Comment period is usually 60 days. OSHA published on Nov 5. As to the rest of your comment, well, you and I think differently. For example, I think it’s unreasonable that although you have nothing of substance to contribute toward a solution to 80M +/- remaining unvaccinated, you’re hypercritical of someone who’s actually doing something to solve the problem. It would seem from your posts that in your regard, if Biden had mandated immediately and for all employers that would have validated the scientific basis and importance of the mandate. Since he did not do so immediately and globally for all employers therefore proves, in your assessment, that it’s some sort of ploy unmoored from facts. And by your comments, it’s apparent you think the scientific basis is merely purported. My assessment is entirely different from yours, specifically because Biden had to respond more aggressively than before when it became apparent that tens of millions are still unvaccinated despite vaccines being readily available and free. And science is never static, especially in this instance when the whole planet is dealing with a NOVEL virus that continues to mutate as RNA viruses are wont to do. So adaptability is vital. Your position hasn’t varied from He Lied About the Mandate! All I can say to that is if he gets anywhere close to 30,000+ lies in four years like his predecessor, then I’ll be the first to concede it’s a serious matter. Until then, like I’ve already said, I’m fine with him being an adaptive leader who can change his prior decision so he can protect lives during a pandemic. That civil liberties are implicated is not something I take lightly, of course; however, personally, a temporary coercion by federal in order to save lives trumps whatever misgivings I might have. What gets lost in this back-and forth is the undeniable seriousness of a viral disease that is so lethal it has resulted in the deaths of 800,000 in the US, and 5.3 million worldwide. And while that's happening, too many people in this country continue to resist vaccines that will alleviate the serious problem. That’s what matters to me, not the trivialities you’re obsessing over.

And aj2hall answered your question about consistency: The private company and the health care workers mandate will cover 2/3 of all workers. The private company one was aimed at companies with more than 100 employees because they have the structure and employees to administer a mandate. And like she said, there’s nothing stopping smaller employers from imposing their own vaccine mandates. If you don’t agree with anything I’ve said, that’s perfectly fine. You just simply do not like our answers. So, I’m not inclined to continue engaging with you endlessly. You’re not after discussion; what you’re after is a brawl. And I’m not interested in a brawl.

Many countries recognise natural immunity. You can get an EU Digital Covid Certificate if - you have been vaccinated against covid, or - you have returned a negative PCR test in the previous 72 hours, or - you have recovered from covid in the previous six months. The last two were brought in specifically to avoid discrimination against unvaccinated persons. This certificate is accepted by all EU states as well as a further 28 non-EU countries/territories. It can be used domestically in the EU, eg for access to certain venues, as well as for travel across borders of countries that accept the certificate. Holders are exempt from any travel-related testing or quarantine requirements. I am ok with that. Oh look, another opinion of mine. Biden changed course after it was clear that a lot of jackasses were not getting that “newfangled vaccine.” Hey, they’re fine with taking those monoclonal antibodies-also newfangled-once they get sick, aren’t they? Odd how that works. So we have established that Biden changed his mind and decided that mandates were needed. Yes, those are facts. Clearly you disapprove of mandates and feel that all companies should have been included. That is your opinion. See the difference? You keep repeating the same things. Obviously you are Big Mad about the mandates. Hey, there’s my opinion again. As for Afghanistan, where did that come from? Are you just free-ranging ranting about Biden? Now, I can see that you are going to keep typing the same things over and over, interspersed with words like “nope” and “lies.” It’s all very tedious, so go ahead and have the last word.

Well that's ok then, isn't it? I can't decide if you're really this dense or just trolling at this point. Not trolling at all. I read posts here and I’m flabbergasted and appalled by the mandates and restrictions peas are posting about. Just presenting the view from somewhere else. It’s not like that everywhere. I’ve been to 25 states in 2020-2021 and haven’t encountered the level of restrictions and masking the peas talk about. We have purposely avoided the Northeast and Cali, Wash state, and Oregon. Everywhere else has been fine. Easy to travel, easy to do things, and not batshit crazy about restrictions. I feel sad that people are living with the level of anxiety in the OP. I try to comprehend being that upset at encountering an unmasked person and just can’t. This place has become a bit of an echo chamber lately and y’all just sit around and validate the anxiety and anger all the time. Meanwhile the rest of us have moved on. My uncle died Sunday while being intubated. I’ll let everyone at the funeral Monday know we should “just move on”. He was fully vaccinated, however 2 weeks prior (Thanksgiving week) was around others who were requested to wear masks when gathering (and refused).

I am so sorry you and your family had to lose him.
The dynamic to me is angry uncooperative children who don't want to wear masks or admit the pandemic is as bad as it is. The parentification of the government is necessary to try to stop the death but it is not surprising that parent like behavior brings more childish behavior. So when I encounter it in my life I try to move back to adult level interaction. The death of vaccinated people should be on the careless people's conscious. To me that is crystal clear and anyone who tries to say their actions of pretending vaccines are not something a mature adult would accept is deluding themselves further. But we cannot legislate delusion. We will have to keep going through this the hard way.

You keep repeating the same things. Obviously you are Big Mad about the mandates. Hey, there’s my opinion again. As for Afghanistan, where did that come from? Are you just free-ranging ranting about Biden? Now, I can see that you are going to keep typing the same things over and over, It came from the oddly political timing of his about face on mandates. Biden put mandates in place only when the fallout hit from his colossal failure in Afghanistan that left so many people behind. Right when he was getting condemnation from all sides that wouldn't let up. When the fallout from refusing to listen to his military experts cost people their lives. Again, right when he was getting condemnation from all sides that wouldn't let up. Yes I repeated myself again. Repeat this: Omicron is spreading like wildfire around the globe. Many other nations are putting a hault of lifting more restrictions and putting some back, including in several Provinces in my country of Canada. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AFGANISTAN.

Yes, and I’m glad that he did. It gave businesses the backbone to demand Covid vaccines. So in the end, in my opinion, it was the right thing to do. See, that’s an *opinion.* As has been explained to you a tiresome number of times, and yet you keep ignoring it, smaller companies were exempt because it was felt that many of them lacked the administrative setup to enforce it. I am ok with that. Oh look, another opinion of mine. The garbage the trumpers/conservatives are spewing about the mandates are ridiculous and just not true—especially what you’ve just posted.

Also this And I will ask again, if not vaccine mandates then what? With the start of winter, omicron on the rise, nothing is not an option. Do you or any other Republicans have any useful ideas or just criticism? The vaccine mandate for 100 or more workers has been halted and is not enforceable by OSHA. Only temporarily. The mandate is back on. www.npr.org/2021/12/17/1065401498/bidens-osha-vaccine-mandate-test-million-workersBiden's vaccine-or-test rule for 84 million workers is back after court lifts stay The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted a stay on the rule Friday evening. The rule was blocked on Nov. 6, just one day after it was formally issued by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
"Fundamentally, the [rule] is an important step in curtailing the transmission of a deadly virus that has killed over 800,000 people in the United States, brought our healthcare system to its knees, forced businesses to shut down for months on end, and cost hundreds of thousands of workers their jobs," wrote Circuit Judge Jane B. Stranch, an Obama appointee.
"The harm to the government and the public interest outweighs any irreparable injury to the individual petitioners who may be subject to a vaccination policy," she said.
