It seems like more and more people I know are getting the virus, and these are people who have done all the right things. I'm in the Dallas area where masking is hit or miss. I live next to two counties that don't have mask mandates (Dallas county does), and I rarely see masks there.
I've just kind of come to the realization that I will probably get it at least once. I have been very vigilant as I have elderly parents and will continue to be but I'm just kind of resigned to the idea that I'll probably get it.
FTR, I'm double vaxxed and boosted along with my extended family.

I'm vaxxed and boosted and kind of resigning myself to the fact that I'm gonna get got, even though my circle is small and everyone I spend time with unmasked is vaccinated, boosted, I stopped going to gym in person, stopped eating in restaurants.
I'm a teacher and this shit is rampant, so I'm guessing mid-January. I already made homemade chicken soup and put it in the freezer for when I go down.
Sad. Didn't have to be like this, and I hope my fat ass doesn't die or get long COVID.

I assume I will get it. I’m vaxxed not yet boosted (scheduled for 1/14 as its. 3 day weekend)I teach at an elementary school where indoor masking is required.
I got super sick Christmas Eve and slept away most of that day and Christmas and part of yesterday. I have a Covid test scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Yes, but I also feel one day I will be told I have cancer. I do what I can to prevent it, but both of these have a mind of their own and no prevention method is 100%.

I hate it, but yes, I think my husband and I will both get it at some point. And sooner than later. We're vac'd and boosted, but this area is heavily NOT and we have to be out amongst them. I just pray for mild cases.

I sort of thought I would get it eventually. I'm double vaccinated, but not boosted. I was suppose to get my booster the wk I was exposed. I had an exposure at work, that was unexpected, so when I was tested and it was positive, I was shocked.

Yes. With omicron being so contagious I feel like dh or I will get it. And dd works at our county vaccination clinics on the weekends so she's convinced she'll get it. Of course all employees are vaccinated and boosted, and they wear good masks. But still...

I might get it, but I'm vaxxed and boosted. Hopefully, if it happens it'll be mild. It's hard not to be concerned when it's at the forefront of everything. However, rather than worry I just use common sense and hope for the best. greendragonlady and cindyupnorth I'm sorry that you are dealing w/this.

Yes. I think we're entering the endemic phase. Everyone in our family is vaccinated and boosted, so I'm hopeful we'll avoid a serious case (my husband had it over Thanksgiving and had mild symptoms). With both my kids in dorms, it's hard to imagine they're going to avoid it.

An elementary teacher from the school where I sub was talking about this. She said "what's the point of making sub plans? Who's going to want to sub for us?" lol. or not-lol. Honestly, I think if we get enough staff out with covid they'll just close the schools. There was already a sub shortage even before covid, then as we all know it got worse with covid. And now with omicron... nope. I have a job already for Jan. 13 and 14 and I'm seriously thinking of canceling it. I'm waiting to see what happens right after the winter break.

Probably. I have 2 kids in school. DH and I both mostly work from home, but we do go to the office. I figure it's just a matter of time.
Hopefully us all being fully vaxed (3 of us boosted and the youngest just got his second shot 3 weeks ago so he's got strong immunity right now) will help to mitigate the impact.

Probably, yes. In reality COVID is a variation of the common cold (obviously far far more serious) so I’m not all that surprised that it’s now spreading like such. Even working in a school (including my days in preschool) I’ve been able to escape strep, flu, etc most years so perhaps I’ll get lucky and escape COVID too. But I’m not stupid, I’m vaxxed and boosted so hopefully if/when I get it it’ll be mild.

I think eventually most people will get it. The vaccine is very effective at lessening the severity, not as much preventing the disease. Unvaccinated people are causing the mutations amd those people arent going to get any smarter or compassionate so Covid is here to stay.
I will get my annual vaccine (assuming that is what the recommendation will be) just like I get the flu vaccine. Hopefully the antiviral pills become widely available quickly for the vaccinated so we dont have to get the monoclonal antibodies, etc.

Yes. I am a sub in the schools. Even though masking is 100% except for eating lunch and outdoor recess, and I’ve been vaxxed & boosted, I’m fairly certain that I will get Omicron. I’m hoping it isn’t a severe case. I just had an infusion for my long-term cancer treatment and am relieved I was able to get it in before COVID finds me. I’m not due for another for 6 months.

Absolutely. Everyone will get Covid. (Unless you live alone and never interact with any humans whatsoever.) Most scientists and medical professionals have said this from the start.

Yes. I’d love it if I could hold off getting it until the new pills are more widely available though. I heard on the news (ABC) last night that 1 in 60 residents of Manhattan have tested positive over the last 7 days. That (to me) is mind-boggling.

I feel like all we can do is to stay up to date on the vaccine and boosters, and be careful when out and about. It's already run through my family in Aug, even with being fully vaccinated and being very careful. We have since had our booster shots. It won't surprise me if one of us doesn't end up with it again, as I know a few people who've had it more than once.

I can't control everything, but I am going to do my very best to do everything I can to not get Covid. That means being vaccinated and getting my boosters whenever I can. It means not wearing a cloth mask anymore and wearing a N95 mask instead that seals all around as best it can. And wearing it every time I leave the house. At the beginning of the pandemic we were told not to get N95 masks because of the shortage. That's not true anymore.
Before my recent trip I did some research (this was just before the Omicron outbreak) and read that cloth masks are no longer being advised for air travel but that they were advising wearing N95 masks instead. I found a great article online about where to buy reliable ones and invested in a brand and type that isn't a duck type bill mask or foldable mask-it's hard to describe-but is like a circular mask that covers your nose and mouth with two straps that go around your neck. Not comfortable but I've gotten used to it. They aren't cheap by any means, but to me they are worth it.
While on St. John USVI we only wore masks when we had to-indoors at shops and at restaurants before our drinks arrived to the table. Outdoors we didn't wear them. All of the tourists to the island had to be vaccinated and had to have a negative Covid test or they couldn't be there. Of course that didn't mean they couldn't have caught it during travel or that the locals didn't have it. There are 4,000 locals on the island and according to the local paper so far no cases of the Omicron strain had been reported yet.
Now that I'm back in Maryland (as of Wednesday) it's different. I haven't left the house since I got back, and when I do I'm going to be extra vigilant. We were supposed to celebrate Christmas with my parents (both 82) but due to Omicron my parents decided it was safer (and I agreed) to once more celebrate in our separate households-that makes 2 years now that Covid has kept me from celebrating Christmas with my folks. I know lots of folks are in the same situation.

I don't think that they said that from the start at all. That certainly wasn't the messaging that was sent in the early or even middle days of this. Now that it hasn't been contained globally, many scientists/medical professionals agree that most people will be EXPOSED to SARS-CoV2. But I do not think that your statement is correct that everyone said that from the start. This article kind of outlines that gradual shift: www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2021/10/29/1050465159/covids-endgame-scientists-have-a-clue-about-where-sars-cov-2-is-headed

Yes, I really think so. Even with the new variant, we're generally carrying on with our lives because we're all vaxxed and boosted. Our kids are socializing, my husband is hosting his annual post-Christmas poker game at the neighborhood clubhouse. We are all very diligent with masking but I've been expecting someone to get sick every day for the last 2 weeks. Both my kids work in very public facing jobs and my son interacts with hundreds of people a day as a tour guide. So it feels very, very inevitable at this stage of the game.

To their credit, our three administrators will step in and sub as much as possible. We also have a librarian and a science lab teacher who get pulled as subs, as do the literacy and math pullout teachers (last resort as IEP reqs still have to be met).

I’m going to pick no since I have to pick one or the other but certainly wouldn’t be surprised to get it as obviously many, many are and will. But I would lean slightly more to “no” for me because of my prior history of very rarely getting sick with flu, cold, strep etc but mostly because my life keeps me more removed from risks compared to others. I mostly work from home and live with only dh who is self employed and isn’t around too many others either. When I do go to stores, etc, I live in a state that requires masks so I rarely encounter anyone not wearing one (and if they aren’t, I am and I am vac’ed and boosted). I workout at home.

Yes. While we are both vaccinated and have booster shots, we work in an essential business, plus it’s Trumpland where people are proud of not being vaccinated. I’m officially quitting at the end of the year, but DH is continuing to work. I believe he will bring it home to me. I’m a diabetic and believe it may kill me. The only wish I have is that I not be hospitalized. I really want to die at home with my dogs around me. That is very important to me, along with direct cremation and no funeral or burial/interment.

Yes I think it is inevitable which is why it is so important to be vaccinated and boosted. I would rather have mild symptoms and have to isolate at home rather than get so sick and have to go to the hospital.
I am a SAHM and my husband works from home the majority of the time, so our exposure is a lot less than most. But we still like to leave our house.

Even with vaccinations I don't know how to avoid it but I'm more concerned about my three month old nephew and preterm-now-three-year-old than me.
My almost six year old is in school but it's a private school and they have been wonderful about masking except during eating/ drinking and alerting to close contact cases. Kids took to masks a lot better than most adults. BUT with the knowledge that it can pass through fabric masks I think this upcoming semester will be interesting to say the least.
