I hate to type this but some of the researchers I have worked with (that work on Covid 19) have said that eventually we are all going to get it, but for people who have had vaccines and boosters most will just have cold symptoms.

We got boosted on Christmas Eve (family of five all turned up together!). When I told my vaccinator that I’m a teacher his question was “how have you avoided it this far?” Several colleagues have had it/currently have it (some more than once) & multiple students. I’m testing at least twice a week, masking etc but given my job, DS working as a teaching assistant in a college & DD at uni I feel that it’s inevitable one of us will bring it home to DH safely working from home and I’m just grateful that we’re no longer worrying about passing it on to my late dad (although obviously I’d rather he was still here).
DD’s boyfriend joined us last Monday for Christmas & heard from his mum (a nurse) the next day that she was positive but fortunately he hadn’t brought it with him. She’s still testing positive so he’s still here

I work with the wildly close talking, personal space invading, unvaccinated population, so I am sure I will. I just hope that since we are masked all the time and I am fully vaxxed and boosted that it will be a mild case and I don’t spread it to anyone else. My biggest worry is that I won’t know about an exposure since it presents like a cold which are rampant in little kids this time of year. I don’t know a small child who doesn’t have a runny nose or cough apron a pretty much consistent basis this time of year. I cannot wait until the under 6 set can be vaccinated.

No I don't think I will, but I don't think that I am immune to it either. Almost like getting a cold or flu. You are gonna get it most likely a few times in your life. I kinda feel like that about covid now. I am fully vaxxed and boostered up. I semi-regularly wear a mask. I have to at work. It's mandatory right now I think, but I don't see a lot of people wearing them anyways. There has only been one place that was adamant about wearing one, which of course I wore mine. Otherwise I see maybe 40% wearing masks. I am around a couple of family members not masked as well. It is what it is. I am sick of thinking about it. I do what I do and going to live my life. I run around and do errands, eat out, whatever... I'm careful but I am not locking myself down at this point.

Yes. I’d love it if I could hold off getting it until the new pills are more widely available though. I heard on the news (ABC) last night that 1 in 60 residents of Manhattan have tested positive over the last 7 days. That (to me) is mind-boggling. im actually suprised it’s not higher - I assume you’ve seen the latest graph for New York - it is through the roof! To answer question - yes I assume I’ll get it - I’m also assuming it will be mild or I won’t even notice it. At this point I’m moving on - vaccinated, boosted, masking but I’m traveling, seeing friends - taking reasonable precautions.

I’d very much like to not get it a third time. But with kids in three different schools and not a lot of masking going on in this county, I’m not very optimistic. Covid sucks. Long Covid from “mild” cases sucks.

I may get it. A lot of people have gotten infected despite being triple-vaxxed and cautious. I am back now to simply not doing anything indoors without a mask (restaurants) until the Omicron wave cools off.
I think I had COVID at the very beginning (I had something consistent with COVID and I am rarely sick, and my husband and oldest kid had the same thing — he developed heart problems that he had never had soon afterwards, and my oldest was having trouble breathing sick enough that they went to the doctor, but the doctor only tested for flu because they did not have a known exposure and that was how it was handled at the time (they tested negative for the flu). Since none of us were tested, we will never know, and we’re all triple-vaccinated now.

An elementary teacher from the school where I sub was talking about this. She said "what's the point of making sub plans? Who's going to want to sub for us?" lol. or not-lol. Honestly, I think if we get enough staff out with covid they'll just close the schools. There was already a sub shortage even before covid, then as we all know it got worse with covid. And now with omicron... nope. I have a job already for Jan. 13 and 14 and I'm seriously thinking of canceling it. I'm waiting to see what happens right after the winter break. To their credit, our three administrators will step in and sub as much as possible. We also have a librarian and a science lab teacher who get pulled as subs, as do the literacy and math pullout teachers (last resort as IEP reqs still have to be met). Yes, true. At our school we have two reading teachers who normally do push-in only, several push-in SPEDs, and some ESL teachers who could get pulled in to a classroom if needed. The assistant librarian is a friend of mine and she has said so many times how happy she is that assistants are not allowed to be in charge of a classroom, because then she's exempt from being pulled. lol. Never mind that she could teach any class better than many subs....but her classification is "assistant" so they're not allowed to do it.

I think it is likely. Vaxed and boosted. My state has a mask mandate.I mask. Limit public exposure. But I teach in a school where parents and students hide positives, wear masks under their noses and chins, pull down their masks to talk, cough and sneeze. It’s a losing battle.

It seems like more and more people I know are getting the virus, and these are people who have done all the right things. I'm in the Dallas area where masking is hit or miss. I live next to two counties that don't have mask mandates (Dallas county does), and I rarely see masks there. I've just kind of come to the realization that I will probably get it at least once. I have been very vigilant as I have elderly parents and will continue to be but I'm just kind of resigned to the idea that I'll probably get it. FTR, I'm double vaxxed and boosted along with my extended family. This is right where I am. It was our boosted Governor announcing that he had Covid that made me realize that I'll probably end up getting it at some point. He had no symptoms and I'm thinking my experience could be similar. I'm surrounded by vaxxed and boosted people outside of work, but I work in a school and I just don't see myself avoiding it.

I'm coming to that realization. I'd love to protect a vulnerable member in our home but with dh working in a large facility and dd in long term care, it's almost impossible.
Three of us our getting our booster shot tomorrow. One family member already has a booster. That should help. Dh has decided not to get the booster at this time which I hate. He doesn't want to get a shot every 6 months or so to accommodate each new variant. I get that but he's in his 60s and has had several bouts of pneumonia. Hopefully, he will change his mind. He does take social distancing, masking, hand washing etc very seriously.

Yes, definitely everyone will get it. I think it's a matter of time for DH and DD. We are all fully vaxxed/boosted.
I caught it in October, mild case.
I just heard of someone whose family all had it last year (and weren't being responsible back then) and now his 8 month old baby has it. At this point IDK what to think anymore. Do I assume irresponsible again? No way to know, Omicron is apparently changing the rules.
So so so disheartening.

Yes, I think so. Who knows, I may have already had it and had no symptoms. SO and I have our boosters. We still haven’t eaten inside a restaurant or been to a crowded big event, and we still wear a mask inside public places. But we are not isolating. We still go shopping, we meet friends for an outdoor meal, and we go to the gym. I have allergies, so maybe one of the days I had nose issues was Covid. I am just counting on the vaccine to its job, and if I catch it, it will hopefully be mild.

I am pretty sure I had it at the very beginning when it was still new and there was no testing. In February 2020, I went to Vegas with some family, and ended up sick my last day. At the time, I first thought it was allergies from all the smoke that is every where. But I ended up being sick off and on for about 3 weeks, and was just starting to finally feel somewhat back to normal in late March when everything shut down. I lost my sense of taste when I was sick, but at the time, I had no idea that was a symptom of Covid.
I have been vaccinated and will get my booster at the end of the first week of January. I wear a mask, and while I do think I will at some point get Covid, I hope that the precautions I take will make it a mild case. I do think at some point, everyone is going to get it. There are too many people who refuse to get vaccinated, and it's just going to keep mutating. I will get boosters as long as they are necessary.

Yep. I have three kids in school. Yes, masks are required except at lunch where plexiglass on the tables is supposed to contain the germs...
I'm getting my booster January 3rd, the kids go back to school January 3rd...

Absolutely. Everyone will get Covid. (Unless you live alone and never interact with any humans whatsoever.) Most scientists and medical professionals have said this from the start. I don't think that they said that from the start at all. That certainly wasn't the messaging that was sent in the early or even middle days of this. Now that it hasn't been contained globally, many scientists/medical professionals agree that most people will be EXPOSED to SARS-CoV2. But I do not think that your statement is correct that everyone said that from the start. This article kind of outlines that gradual shift: www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2021/10/29/1050465159/covids-endgame-scientists-have-a-clue-about-where-sars-cov-2-is-headedThank you for that article. I don't have one to back me up so I'll chalk it up to things I read and heard early on, which I consider pre-vaccine. I just know that it's a matter of when, not if we will all get a form of Covid.

All 3 of us at our house are double vaxxed and boosted. My daughter and I are now isolating again. Hubby goes out as little as possible. We always wear masks when going out, but many (most?) around us do not. Despite us living in the Covid hotspot of Florida. If any of us gets it, I really hope it's the Omicron variety since that's the most mild. I am scared that if I get it I'll be in deep crap because of all my comorbidities, many of which specifically make Covid worse. And I can't stand the thought of our daughter being stuck in a hospital with Covid (she also has lots of comorbidities) all alone (I don't care how old you are, when you are really sick you need your mom!). DH would handle it the best. He has diabetes and thalassemia, but he's by far the healthiest. And bravest. He has currently been sick since late Friday, and is going to get a Covid test tomorrow (and examined I hope). Do I think we can avoid it completely? No. But I'd like to put it off as long as possible.

Yes, I think so too. My SIL got it last week. Also fully vaxed. Not a go to the hospital case but felt quite sick. I can just imagine what it will do to the non vaxed.

Honestly surprised I haven't yet? So knock on wood.
My boyfriend had it early on and I'm convinced covid is what my mom had in Feb 2020 when she was really ill.. I do all the shopping/going out if we need things.. on top of already not going out much prior to restrictions (already worked from home) so I assumed my immune system was crap. But thankfully all has been well with me and the only time I've been sick in the past 2 years was when I got my shots -- which hit me really hard.

I’m vaxxed and boosted and before I was diagnosed with EGPA on Thanksgiving, I would have said I wouldn’t get it. However, now I’m spending a lot of time in hospitals at appointments AND I’m getting chemo to wipe out my immune system, I’m terrified to get COVID and despite being careful feel like I will eventually get it at some point. .

I think we have passed the point of hoping it will go away. It is endemic and yes, I expect to probably get it at some point simply because my job won't allow full time telework. I isolate as much as humanly possible. Since I am vaccinated and boosted I hope to have a mild case but long haul scares me. Even mild cases can end up as long haulers.

I got my booster last week, and my husband and kids (except one, who gets it soon)got our booster. We still wear a mask, so I am not worried about covid at this point. If I would get it, I may not know I have it, and with my family being booster, we aren't too concerned. Just more annoyed that we may miss out on planned activities because of the selfish anti vaxxers.

I think I probably had it very early on but didn't know, and developed antibodies. Plus I'm vaxed and boosted. The two times I felt crappy enough to get tested, I was negative for Covid but (oddly) positive for strep. Without usual strep symptoms.
I have been exposed multiple times including a few times direct in the face exposure though I did have on a surgical mask. Nothing. DH was directly exposed at a business dinner, nothing--he probably developed antibodies early on from exposure to me.
I think I'm immune at this point, so good for me, but I sure would welcome a two week quarantine or however long I could stretch it out for as long as I didn't die. But even then, no one need feel bad for me, as it meant permanent retirement. 😁
As far as long Covid, I get what I call "Rona flares" from time to time that are fatigue, body aches, and often my skin is very sensitive to the touch. Then it passes after a couple days. I presume that is my body's immune response and I'm never going to get rid of that. DH gets the same thing from time to time (he's also vaxed and boosted).

There are four people in my house. Me & DH are vaxxed and boosted. DS is vaxxed. 76 year old uncle is unvaxxed and refuses. I’m the only one working outside the home (in a high risk industry). I do not have to interact with guests, work in my own office, and everyone in my office suite is vaxxed and boosted. I feel generally that I have a 50/50 of getting it.
Our friend circle is very small and everyone we interact with is vaxxed, but I’ve also had vaxxed friends get COVID recently.
If my uncle gets COVID, I’m not sure he’ll survive. He’s also a smoker. It’s been a shock for him moving in with us since I do not allow smoking in my house and we get brutal cold winters. I think that has forced him to at least cut down his smoking.
