I'm sorry to all of you who have it or think you might have it during this holiday season. I've been to a couple of larger family gatherings and church over the holidays and have one coming up on the 1st. I'm nervous but trying to take precautions as best I can. I do really think I'll end up with it at sometime and Omicron just seems to be running rampant right now.

Yes, since my husband just tested positive yesterday. I'm so sorry. I hope he recovers quickly, and that the rest of the family doesn't contract it.

I think I had it in Feb 2020 but am preparing for the chance of getting it again. I think it is kind of foolish for anyone to think they couldn't get it. DH and I both work from home are vaccinated and boosted and DD is vaccinated but too young for a booster. Our big exposure is her dancing 5 nights a week. Her studio requires masks for everyone but that is not fool proof. Do you really think you had it as early as that? I was sick mid-February 2020 (actually the last time I was sick at all) and was pretty miserable with cough and body aches. Makes you wonder. Yeah, I do. I was SO sick. The sickest I have ever been. They did a strep test and a flu test and they were negative. They said it was bronchitis. I had to do 2 breathing treatments. Lost my sense of smell and taste. I slept for days.

I'm vaxxed and boosted and kind of resigning myself to the fact that I'm gonna get got, even though my circle is small and everyone I spend time with unmasked is vaccinated, boosted, I stopped going to gym in person, stopped eating in restaurants. I'm a teacher and this shit is rampant, so I'm guessing mid-January. I already made homemade chicken soup and put it in the freezer for when I go down. Sad. Didn't have to be like this, an d I hope my fat ass doesn't die or get long COVID.
I don’t know if you meant this figuratively or not, but I’ve never imagined you being a fat ass. In my mind your an athletic, lean woman. 😂 I'm definitely literally fat. I used to be not as fat (but haven't been "lean" since my late teens), but that was when I was running all the time. The pandemic (and my own lack of motivation) did me no favors in recent years.

Yes. We are all vaxxed & boosted and wear masks everywhere we go, but so many people in AZ don't. We are both teachers, so sooner or later one of us is going to bring it home.
I've pre-emptively had the talk with DH about it. His knee-jerk reaction whenever anything goes wrong is to find someone to blame. I explained that he will have no way to know whose "fault" it is when someone tests positive - he may have it right now, be asymptomatic, but pass it on to one of us. We are all careful, wearing masks, etc. but whoever tests positive first is going to get the brunt of "you brought it home, it's YOUR fault." I think he finally understands that with omicron being so contagious, he could just as easily bring it home to us, and he wouldn't want us judging him or getting angry because he tested positive.
He was very concerned about us going to a hockey tournament in MA. I pointed out to him that since MA is requiring everyone to wear a mask in all public places, we were probably better off than at home in AZ. Almost nobody in AZ wears a mask, and I think that covid is just as wide-spread in AZ as it is in MA. The only difference is MA is doing data collection on sewage samples so they KNOW it's rampant. Covid is everywhere in AZ, but people just don't care and think that if they ignore it, it will go away.

They were sick for almost a month. No tests available (and we went into major lockdown here at the same time, so they didn't spread it because we all were isolating).

I live in Chicago, where there’s a mask mandate. I’m boosted, and yet I currently have COVID, along with my husband and little Pancakes. We escaped several daycare outbreaks, only to succumb to my moronic BIL who brought it home from workout classes while he was staying with us before Christmas. Even when you’re careful, there’s others around you that aren’t. Aw, man. I'm so sorry! I have avoided the gym in person for a few weeks now because of Omicron (and wore a mask the rest of the time). Hope y'all are doing ok!

I’m vaxxed and boosted and before I was diagnosed with EGPA on Thanksgiving, I would have said I wouldn’t get it. However, now I’m spending a lot of time in hospitals at appointments AND I’m getting chemo to wipe out my immune system, I’m terrified to get COVID and despite being careful feel like I will eventually get it at some point. . EGPA? What is that? Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. It’s attacking my heart.

Yes I think with the transmissibility of the omicron variant everyone is going to be exposed and most people will get it. I have several risk factors so I'm praying that when it's my turn I'll be alright.

For the first time since the pandemic started, I am beginning to feel that I might end up getting it at some stage. Although as of right now I still don't personally know anyone who has had COVID.
Luckily, out of 6.6 million people in my state of Victoria, 93% of eligible people are double vaccinated. But despite that, our numbers are as high as they've ever been, and if I look at what's happening in NSW (the state north of me), the numbers may very well rise even more. We had just under 2000 new cases yesterday. The highest number of new cases we've ever had is 2259 back in mid-October.
I have booked in for my booster on 18th January.

The pediatrician I spoke with said that it's probably the flu and it's "been going around and it really bad this year".

I'd had my flu shot so thought it was a lighter case - though I was pretty miserable, I was up and around again in a couple of days. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, no way of knowing now. I read a while ago that in reviewing old case records, they believe Covid was here in Houston as early as January.

My family got together Christmas Eve (14 of us), all vaccinated and all but a few boostered, all mask wearers, and all tested negative and were feeling fine beforehand. DIL started with symptoms this morning so she tested and both she and my son are positive. My niece is sick but can’t get ahold of a rapid test today but we’re presuming positive. The rest of us rapid tested at home and my youngest and their girlfriend tested positive. The rest of us are negative and asymptotic so far. I’m a nervous wreck right now because my DIL is pregnant, but her OB is prioritizing her for the antibody treatment so I’m trying to hold my shit together.

I got my flu shot this year and just spent 3 days sleeping the days away with SOMETHING. I'll find out tomorrow if it was Covid.

Ever wondered, if it was really found in December they know they needed to build huge hospitals fast? www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2021-01-16/china-builds-hospital-in-5-days-after-surge-in-virus-cases So yes, I believe it was in the US much sooner than we suspect.

I hope not. I have a very small circle of family and friends which was very small before COVID. Everyone in my very small circle is double vax'd and boosted. Since March 2020, I've been working from home and I haven’t eaten inside a restaurant or been to a crowded big event. I still wear a mask inside public places. I also don't feel that I am isolating. I still go shopping, eat outdoors and socialize with my very small circle. Honestly, the pandemic works for me. I like me and I like being by myself so in no way do I feel like "I'm not living".
If I get it, my only concern is infecting my parents. They are older and if they got it from me, I'd feel completely guilty and it would haunt me, especially if they were hospitalized or worse. If they were not in the picture, I'd probably be more care free about it.
I agree with others, I am counting on the vaccine to its job and if I get it, I hope it's mild.
I will say, I've never gotten the flu vaccine and I really really don't want to keep getting the COVID vaccine every 6 months.

That article date is strange; it's from this past January (not January of 2020, as I'd expect). This article from 2020 discusses more about the process of putting up those hospitals, mostly made of prefab: www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/09/10/909688913/whatever-happened-to-the-instant-hospitals-built-in-wuhan-for-covid-19-patients . They'd done similar things during the SARS outbreaks in 2003, so it's not that weird, I guess. And the UK did something similar in 9 days. So.

All had mild symptoms and recovered - so hoping your family will have the same!

Until omicron, I thought I’d be able to avoid it. I’ve built up a pretty good immune system over the years and don’t usually get whatever is going around.
This variant is so contagious that I think it's going to be very likely that almost everyone gets it. I also think it’s possible that many more of us have had COVID than we know, or even have it right now. How many people have allergies or chronic sinus issues? Now, especially with omicron being so similar to cold/allergy/sinus issues, who can say for sure?
I live in a state with mask mandates, and I have been wearing my mask even when I shop in the neighboring state where there is no mandate. But I was in a store here in Illinois this afternoon and I passed a couple, inside, and the man was not wearing a mask. My brother said he saw several people without masks in a store the other day.
My one hope, for myself, and all my loved ones, is that any case we get is mild and that none of us have long haul problems.

Most likely. I'm most concerned about Dh getting it since he has an underlying condition. We are both vaccinated and boosted. We are back to wearing masks. DH was out of work because of a car accident for most of December and he is just getting back to appointments. We are doing a minimum of other activities and wearing masks when we do. I really think we will both be fine from what we are hearing about symptoms. Still I'd love to avoid the experience.

Well, I am super curious about second timers with this variant. I had Covid in Oct 2020, and am still dealing with multiple long hauler Covid issues. I am vaccinated and booster and hoping to avoid a second round of Covid. The first time was pretty scary. I’m in Texas and wear my mask when I am anywhere with a crowd of people.
Anyone had it more than once that you know of?

I've had one cold (no flu) since 2007, so I am extremely lucky. I work with kids who no longer need to be masked and have a spouse who works in a gym where many don't mask. I am shocked I haven't had it already truthfully.
