scrappyrabbit - the cubes construction makes them ultra sturdy. They will never sag the way long shelves often do. But what makes them a real home run is the depth and affordability. I will defend ikea cubes til the day I die. 😂 Also excellent for closet storage. 🏆 As an aside, I must hijack & ask for ideas re: containers to put IN the cubbies; the ones you get from IKEA are actually taller than I'd like & have no handle so I find them irritating for paper. I suppose I could have the paper loose in a cubby but I don't want that

As much as I like saving money, I get a wee bit tired of certain scrappers who talk about how you can do things cheaply. I'm lookin' at you, RTS. And don't get me wrong... I love SO much about Janet/RTS. Heck, she's one of the few I registered to Patreon to follow. I just get tired of hearing about how expensive things are, and how you don't have to buy XYZ you can do your own version.
It's actually bizarre the extent to which I get irked by it; I suspect it's because intellectually I know that, no, I can't XYZ myself, because I lack both the talent & the patience!

Elsabelle - fellow shopper here; sadly I have not yet reached the burn out stage. And I don't hate pink either, as long as it's not too light. I'm very particular about colour shades, regardless of the colour.

I suppose I could have the paper loose in a cubby but I don't want that While my furniture pieces are PB Studio Ladder Shelves, not an Ikea Kallax bookcase, I've stored paper vertically in magazine-style holders (specifically, the original Cropper Hopper Paper Holders/Pouches) for almost two decades! This system allows quick & easy access to peruse, insert, & remove individual sheets. Check out options at SB.com. HTH & you find a storage solution that works well for you.

I am turned off by “ minimalist” scrappers who HATE clutter and CANT STAND a large stash. They insinuate that having a lot of supplies is DISTASTEFUL. Then they push new products from design teams and manufacturers. WTH?!
I can’t stand scrappers/YouTubers who want you to “guess an upcoming (fill in the blank)” or those who constantly allude to a personal issue, but then don’t share. My thought is “KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!”
Also, photos/layouts with peoples FACES BLURRED out give me the CREEPS. It’s personal safety, I get it. Then don’t show it, it’s not that game changing. Sometimes I’ve actually thought I had eye problems before I realize all the blurring was intentional.
Don’t tell me your scrapbooking is a hobby when you have a paid membership, a Patreon membership, design teams, teach classes and sell items. That’s a business. If the IRS is involved, it’s not just “sharing with friends”.
If I don’t like a company or designer, I don’t but from them and support them with my money. I don’t complain and then buy their products. Why set myself up for disappointment? Why pay them to not deliver?
Returning to my corner.

Agreed - though I have noticed less complaining about the cost of pattern paper (though she does rant about collection pack costs) and more about the diet cuts & other embellishments. If anything, the increased costs - though I don't like them, of course - have made me a better scrapper, because I don't shop impulsively as much. Perfect example is all the Disney lines coming from Simple Stories. When stuff was cheaper, I'd have bought them ALL. Now, I'll actually look closely & get the 2-3 that are really relevant to my trip. the other thing I find frustrating re: RTS videos is that she repeats herself. I was paying close attention and I noticed she actually repeats herself A LOT. Like, she could cut her videos in half if she'd stop repeating herself. I don't want to bash her too hard; she seems like a nice person, and her tips have helped me, both in terms of getting organized, and in terms of improving my skills at mixing pattern paper lines.

mrssch - I get your point re: the blurring. I can't share pics of my niece & nephew online, though. Hard rule from my bro & sister in law. Given that - do you think it's better to just share a layout prior to the pics being adhered (If they aren't matted it occurred to me I can just flip then over) or would some kind of post it or something be less annoying than the blurring? Just looking for ideas of ways to share that respect my brother's wishes, but also lets me share.

Oh - if you put music in your videos rather than talk while you work, I'm fast forwarding. I hate music. I mean I love music, but usually not the kind that people put on scrapbook videos. LOL.
I can't scrapbook or make cards with videos running, because I want to watch what the person is doing. So if I want to actually play, I turn on a podcast or some kind of video about politics, or something educational, where I don't need to look up. Johnny Harris is a journalist who does some neat stuff I like to listen to on Youtube, and cooking/recipe videos can work.

I just ordered some more from Wayfair (they had the color I was looking for) that should be here in a few days.

When I share layouts that include people that I don't have permission to show, I just put a white or black punched out circle over their faces before I take the photo of my layout. I prefer that to blurring the faces, because it's so obviously intentional.

Okay, this is a confession I kind of hate myself for: I can't stand watching YouTube videos from many UK/Aussie/Kiwi crafters because of their voice. I think it comes down to the fact that I don't like high-pitched voices in general (I'm super sensitive to all sorts of sounds, helloooooo misophonia), and when it's combined with an accent that's not American, the non-American pronunciation actually highlights the pitch of their voice because my brain has to spend more energy to process what's being said. I hate it because it feels very much like internalized misogyny because most of these crafters are women (I always think about how when Hillary Clinton was running for president, there were endless think pieces about how men called her "shrill" when the same statements from a man would be seen as commanding). I think it also might have something to do with the type of regional accent it is, as the "posh" accents bother me more (at least, I think that's how it would be described, I'm not an expert on differentiating British regional accents). The accent that bothers me is kind of like the stereotypical 90s Valley Girl, but British. I'm not sure if this will make sense to anyone else, but it does in my head. I don't want to name names because these crafters are lovely people and their voice can't be changed, so this is not an indictment of them, it's just about the fact that I watch craft videos to relax and if someone's voice grates on my nerves, it's an automatic no from me. Ok so I’m a New Zealander and I agree with you 😂 I find a lot of the NZ and Aussie YouTubers impossible to listen to as well as any British ones with too much of a regional accent and any US or Canadian ones with too heavy an accent. I thought it was just me being weird…… Okay, when I saw that a user named "kiwikate" quoted me on this thread, I gotta admit, I was nervous! Haha, I thought I was going to be called out! Glad to know I didn't offend you and sorry you share the same affliction

I've enjoyed reading this thread as I drink my morning coffee. So many YES!'s to different posts. Here's mine: -I'm never going to let you borrow any of my tools unless you're sitting right in front of me and I can make sure to get it back. I am so hesitatant to let anyone borrow anything at a crop because of this one woman who caused me too much stress. She was at the table next to mine, and she asked if she could borrow my scissors. I'm not sure why she couldn't borrow some from someone at her table, but OK. I had to go over to her 5 minutes later because I needed them. (I had told her that I was using them, and I needed them back soon.) Well, I guess she thought that because I let her borrow them ONCE, she could just keep coming back and TAKING THEM right off the table WHILE I WAS SITTING THERE. And if I left the table, she would come over and grab them. I kept going back to her to get them, and after the third or fourth time, I told her that I needed to keep them because I was using them. I also made sure to put them away if I left the table or had to put them down. Sorry to hijack the thread for a minute. I can't believe the gall of that lady! That would have made me so mad!

* I take way too long to create pages - like if I was able to measure the time probably around 8 hours a page from the time I select the photos until I glue on the last embellishment. The 8 hours is usually over the course of 5 - 10 days - an hour or two per sitting. * I own lots of pre-mades but usually make my own (for example, cut a Silhouette title instead of using alpha stickers, punch or stamp flowers instead of using flower die cuts). Premade/manufactured die cuts annoy me. They are never the right element and they are flat and usually have a white border, but I buy them anyway thinking they will save time and make my pages look more creative. * I love pink, I buy lots of pink, but 80% of my pages are primarily blue. * Like most scrapbookers, I have tons and tons of supplies (and still buy more, just at a slower rate than in past years) but I rarely get rid of any (purge ) - I never know what I'm going to use on my pages, and if something is really ugly, like paper, I use it for notes and practice cuts or mats. Also, with the cost of everything these days as well as the scarcity of some supplies, I don't feel as bad about having an abundant inventory.

A few things that irk me: ~~~why do 'designers' insinuate that 'themed scrappers' are somehow less skilled/less creative than 'non-themed scrappers'? They wear their 'non-themed scrapper' title like a badge of honor. For the love of Gawd, woman...you are scrapping Christmas photos; it's OK to put a tree or ornament on your page in lieu of flowers! If you don't want to, that's fine too...but stop bashing people who like to use things other than the generic embellishments like flowers, labels, and cameras. ~~'visual triangle'...I think I have PTSD from hearing so much about this stoopid (with two Os) design concept. Make your page; put the stuff where you think it looks pretty. Now, on to my confessions: Nothing...I got nothing. This is my hobby; no guilt allowed!

I don't get the splatters and sprays. I can't imagine taking a perfectly good layout and splattering it with paint, oxide, ink. You can't fix the spray if it goes somewhere unwanted. Too uncontrollable and messy.
I'm not Jackson Pollock. I love his work in museums; not on my pages.
AND why is matchy-matchy such an evil thing? I like my things to match or coordinate. I much prefer matching to random.

I'm no "designer", but I'm primarily a non-themed scrapper. I completely agree with this. However anyone chooses to do use supplies is the "right" way. One of the things I love most about paper crafting is there are no rules! Be messy, or be linear. Be bold and colorful or be simple and scarce. Whatever you choose is great!

If someone is totally never themey because it’s not their thing, FINE. Gluestick Girl comes to mind. I think the themiest thing I can recall her doing was using a ticket diecut or ticket stamp on a Disney page. Her style was very specific and not themed at all. Her beach photos layouts could be indistinguishable from snow picture layouts. But Lisa was never snooty about it or even mentioned it? But I can think of a handful of current scrappers who constantly say they aren’t into themes, like it’s such a creative badge of honor for them… and they use a pack full of matchy matchy flowers & butterfly diecuts in every single layout. 🙄 Okay, whatever! You do you! But stop with the attitude already. 😵💫

Got another irritation:
I don't mind longer videos and wish the majority of PL/PP scrappers would start their video BEFORE they plug in photos they are working with as well as pocket cards.
I watch the video to see your process. Not hear you ramble on about xyz.
Why did you choose those cards? What color scheme are you going for? What inspired you to go that route? Why did you choose the embellishments you did?
So many are justice well I have been hoarding this kit from (date given) and well let's just use it all up on this spread.
Wwhhhyyyyyy??!! It doesn't go with anything else.
And another:
Can we get off the AE butt kiss train already PL scrappers of YT? Please?!

My confessions:
1. I hardly ever throw anything away. My scrap can be 1" x 2" with a hole in the middle and I am more likely than not to keep it. Why? I don't know. It's some weird after use hoarding affliction. 2. I've bought out three people's collections in the last year. One person had passed away and her husband was selling off her collection. That was really hard to go through. The other two were people who were just getting out of the hobby, but I couldn't bear the thought of them trashing their collections so I bought them out. Now, I obviously didn't pay full value, but what am I going to do with three other people's collections plus my original? I can create for the next 50 years and probably not have to buy anything except adhesive. And I don't have room for all this stuff. I just keep moving piles around and promising myself that I'll get better systems in place so I can actually find and use this stuff. But I can't seem to get past the stuff shuffling phase right now. 2a. I did a huge purge when I moved from one state to another about a decade ago. And I'm extremely regretful of some of the things I got rid of in that purge. So now I tend to go the other direction and am struggling a LOT to let go of any of my supplies - including the stuff I got from these other three people that I know I will never use for my own creations. 3. I hardly ever watch videos. I do occasionally, but if I'm watching a video, I'm usually watching the video and not creating. And I feel as if I get such limited amounts of time in my craft room to begin with, I just need to get moving rather than watch videos. I feel like I'm left out of the loop in the industry though because of this practice. 4. Anything with a star or stars on it, I hoard.
