I know we have a dedicated AE thread but I'd like to have a separate place to talk about WITL.
Are you doing it?
What week are you shooting for?
What kit/supplies are you using?
From this thread (they are not all my ideas)---
TIPS: Keep journaling in a google doc so you can access it and add/print from anywhere.
Create an album in my camera roll for each year “WITL 6/2022” Within the album is a separate folder for each day of the week and drop the pictures in the appropriate day at the end of each night.
First set out all the page protectors in the album alternating configurations. Make sure to take photos, lots of photos to have options. Print out photos by the day and then put them in the pp. Then go back to the beginning and add journalling. After that's done, then go back and add embellishments etc. Do it assembly line style. Try not to over think it.
When I'm on a camping vacation and the days tend to flow together, every morning I take a picture with the phone so close to something dark that I just have a photo of black. That helps me separate the days.
--I set a timer on my phone for morning, noon, afternoon and night time to remind me to take a photo of whatever I am doing. I will vary the time from day to day to get different times throughout the week.
--If I take a horizontal photo, I automatically take a vertical photo so I have photo options at the end of the week.
--I set up my iPhone to have a specific folder to store all my photos in called WITL and then I add a sub folder for each day. At the end of the day. I edit the photos and 'star' each photo I am for sure going to use. That way I know exactly what I have and might have missed.
--When it comes time to do my album, I only use whatever products I have in my kit. I create way more with less product.
--I set up my album, somewhat, ahead of time. I get my page protectors in the order I want them, insert whatever 'day' cards I want to use. I also make my title page ahead of time. For me, if I commit and make the title page then that means I am committed to finishing my album.
And a great suggestion was not to try to capture everything each day but over the course of the week instead..so for example in the morning you use certain products, take meds, make coffee pack lunch etc- rather than trying to capture it all everyday…just one photo w/ part of it for each day-if that makes sense.
For taking photos of yourself in stores and other public places: I prop my phone up on a shelf. I do try and go when its not a busy time. I have a small tripod and remote that I’ve used in the past for group or posed shots. The remote is very handy compared to the timer and you can take multiple shots. I’ve also used rocks or whatever is around. I like to look for creative ways to snap a photo of reflection, so mirrors, windows, shiny stainless steel, puddles, rearview mirror, side mirrors, etc. One of my fav photos is shopping in a store like Home Goods and taking a photo of reflection in the section with the big standing mirrors.
LENSES/THEMES: One day for each member of the family. -ing words
STORY/PHOTO IDEAS:
Start with a group photo of everyone that lives in your house -- even if it is just you.
By the numbers (miles driven, books read, loads of laundry, etc.) Mail Feeding the cats
A 2x2 box page protector full of screenshots of podcasts/music (listening), one for watching, another (or daily) ephemera like packaging, mail, receipts, all kinds of bits and pieces. Do not put something in each pocket on the back to show both sides of this.
Take a picture of the same thing every day (like your morning tea or watering the garden) to show how it looks the same and yet different each day.
Time you wake up (alarm clock/phone) Go to bed Open fridge The weather In your purse…on your nightstand…in your fridge… that type of thing Your online life Books you're reading 1. If you have several people living under your roof, it's fun to do an ID card at the start of the project with everyone's name, age and favourites (yes, they surprisingly change over the years, even for adults). This is the perfect opportunity to take a group selfie/portrait. It sets the general timeline of when the WITL project took place really well in my opinion. 2. News. Include the big news items. Pick up a physical newspaper one day of the week or take a screenshot from your go-to online news media. 3. Cost of life. I've been a huge advocate for taking notes of the cost of daily life over the years and right now, wwith the crazy inflation (and stagflation here in Europe), it's even more important to make a record. Photo ideas for the story: your grocery bill if you don't want to retype the items, grocery bags in the car trunk/on the floor with arrows marking the most significant price jumps to record (flour, meat, produce), a photo of the sign at the petrol/gas station with the pricing. 4. Daily life action shots. Set up your camera or phone (seriously, phones are totally fine, especially with the cameras they have these days) to show yourself doing the dishes, cutting veggies, gardening, opening a parcel, someone else getting into your car if you do pick-up. 5. Include your home nice and wide. People forget to do this. Décor changes, people move, appliances and furniture are upgraded. And the entire background of our memories fades much to our frustration. Make sure you shoot a few photos over the week from a faraway POV so the people are shown as inhabitants of your home. Include the spaces you use most as a family: kitchen, living room, patio/deck. And heck, front door and the façade as well (carrying in groceries/taking the dog out for a walk is a great opportunity for this front-of-the-house shot). 6. Neighbourhood. For the reasons in 5: everything can change pretty quickly, especially over the course of several years. Ask your postman if you can take a photo of them delivering the mail in the street so you can show what the homes around you look like if you don't live in an apartment building. If you have a neighbour you are close to, ask if you can include them in your album. Perfect opportunity to bring over some flowers or baked goodies to thank them. 7. TECHNOLOGY! Same as 5 and 6. This changes crazy quick. If you have multiple people with different smartphones, a phone flatlay is a great idea. You could include a story about texts exchanged that week to organise daily life or share something funny. Include screenshots as well. Emojis and user interface are also subject to quick and permanent change. You could also document all the apps you use frequently and why in your WITL. Again, this is a landscape nobody is recording so it's your job to do so before apps disappear/are bought out/change. Real nostalgia right there. ETA: 8. "Cultural consumption." We call it this way in French but I find the term fits in any language: everything cultural you consume on a regular basis these days so not just your current book(s) but also music (playlist if you like to keep up with new releases or new album by an artist you like), streaming platform, TV series, movie(s), magazine(s), video game(s).

Yes! This is my favorite project. I love doing it during summer.
I’m undecided but I’m leaning toward doing it the same week as the community. I normally like to do it a week or two after the community just to get some more ideas. The week they are doing it is the most normal week in June for us unless I wait until July.
I bought pretty much all of the WITL collection this year. I’m going to change it up and try the 10x8 size 😬
I’m excited because there are so many changes from 2021. New family member (I was pregnant for last years witl) new house, new job. Lots of changes.

I am doing it. I'm documenting the same week the community is & it worked out perfect. My son is flying home from the Army for his holiday leave.
I'm going to be using Ali products this year.I bought a little of this years goodies but also have some left over from previous years. Going to try and mesh them all together. Not certain what album -- but most likely 6x8. I need to look on my shelf and see what I have. I *think* I have a 6x8 linen album that dyed yellow for a Jamaica album that I ended up not using. So maybe that one. Might need to adjust the color a bit though.

I'm doing it! The week of June 20th works for me and I'm looking forward to the change of date. I usually follow Ali for the dates because the inspiration and encouragement that week helps me. I've done WITL every year since 2010 so this year I'm changing up the size of album and doing the 10x8 one. I am going to include some 6x8 pages in there too to use some of the 3x4 cards. I got the main kit and some extras. Already ordered extra printer ink. Plus I decided I'm strictly using my phone instead of stressing with my dslr. Just going to do what works for me.

I like the inspiration but I also want a normal week more. And I don't want to wait until later in July either. I am doing it. I'm documenting the same week the community is & it worked out perfect. My son is flying home from the Army for his holiday leave. It will be so awesome to document that time with him! How exciting. Just going to do what works for me. Yeah. I might throw in some Polaroid/instax shots. I bought a new one from Lomo and haven't had time to play around with it. This might be what I need. I will otherwise just use my phone. I bought the main WITL kit and some of the embellishments. I also promised jenna the other half of my transparency dividers so I need to cut them down and get them to her.

For how many of you will this be your first one?
I did this once before in 2014.
Do you "finish" it or do you consider whatever state the project is in when you're "over" it finished? I was just listening to the WITL podcast and they were talking about the various stages of finished their previous years are and how that's just fine.
For me, I know if I don't finish it shortly after the week is over, I will never to do it.
Part of my enjoyment in the process is finishing as I feel guilty when I don't.
I know for many people, the process is the project and that's good for them. I love that.

I’ve done it 2-3 times in 6x8. This year I am on an extended vacation that will last into Friday of the WITL and then the last 2 days are travel days and involve also taking my son to camp. At first I did not want to do the community week, but now I’m thinking it will be a super unique WITL so I am excited. I printed out some of the digital journal to use to capture and document while here and I also have my PM 400 to print out pics. My plan is to assemble and put it together the week I get home using some of Ali’s stuff, her 6x8 album and some of my own stamps and HS stop the blue supplies.
Glad you created this post bc I always get new ideas from others and I’d love to add some new lenses this year.

This will be my fifth year in a row. I only consider one album to be finished. I’m fine with it. Everything is highly organized and I work from a kit each year so it’s easy to go back to. I usually work on these during weekend retreats and kind of have a formula for 6x8. The new size is going to mess that up a little.
I usually keep a notebook to jot things down during the day. I like to type up my journaling each night and save it in a google doc so I can access it anywhere to print. If I’m going to write on journal cards by hand I prefer to fill them out real time.
I also create an album in my camera roll for each year “WITL 6/2022” Within the album is a separate folder for each day of the week and I drop the pictures in the appropriate day at the end of each night. Makes life so much easier. I like to have it set up before the project starts.

Oh dang blemon I'm so happy you remembered about the transparencies because I for sure did not Absolutely no rush on those btw! Get your album how you want it even if it's after the week you document, then lemme know your paypal or something so I can send you some $$$ for packing and stamps! Honestly I'd forgotten what day it was until Ali posted about on IG a day or two ago.. I was thinking "man wasn't witl in June this year? 🤔". I'm using the kit from 2019 and the AE 3x8 album that's really more of a 4x8 so I'll just be using a mix of pp from citrus twist I have lying around. ..hopefully I have more than full sheet ones available, I should really go through and grab everything I need in case I need to order some more lol. I didn't have as much fun doing DITL on a different day this year so I'll be documenting the same week as Ali. I've done WITL a few times randomly but I don't think any of them are 100% complete.. so that's fun

Ok, I changed the first post and added some lists from the ideas so far. Let me know what you want me to add.
I bought some of the WITL stuff from AE and a Citrus Twist 4X8 album in Flamingo.
We will be on vacation much of the week Ali is doing it and I want to keep all of that separate in a travel journal.
My plan is to document the week of June 27. We actually have nothing planned that week except for a doctor's appt. I think that will be interesting as I honestly can't remember very many weeks where we have nothing (no school, no teaching, no trips). I'll be working but my Summer is flex. There will be a dance class, laundry, unpacking, cleaning the house, normal stuff.

blemon Thanks for the thread. I kinda forgot about WITL but really want to participate this year. I'm sad I didn't last year since everything is completely different now and I had no idea then, how different life would be a year later. I love my WITL from 2020, since it captures life during the height of the pandemic. It's such a great project. With luck, I'll even have most of the boxes unpacked by the 20th. I think I'll grab the digital journaling cards and then likely add from stash and/or it will give me a good excuse to do some shopping.

I'm doing it the week of the 20th. I've tried doing it other weeks in the past, but it always fizzles out. I need that inspiration from the community. Having said that, I am really super happy that Ali switched up the dates this year.
I bought the main kit, the 6x8 album, and the page dividers. I also got the digital versions of the big plastic words, the vellum die cuts, and the journal. I didn't like how big the plastic words were so I'm going to size them down and print them on transparencies to cut out. I'd rather work with cardstock die cuts versus vellum, so I'll print those out and cut them on my Silhouette.
I also have a ton of supplies from previous years that I will also be dipping in to
I plan on using the journal digitally on my iPad. I like the contents of the journal but didn't want to spend $15 on it. $5 is much better LOL!

Technically I did WITL the week of May 23-29 (maybe through the 30th for Memorial Day) but so far I haven't actually done any of the work besides uploading all of the photos to my computer and I've barely done any written documentation to help me remember things when I make the album. This is the farthest behind I've been on the project since I started in 2015. It was a good week to do because it was fun to have a big moment to focus on for my youngest son (8th grade graduation and final day at the private school he's been at for 5 years) instead of including my oldest son's birthday because that's happpened more often than not with the earlier in May WITLs.
Now I'm not so sure, not just because I've not done anything beyond taking photographs (and there were days I didn't take many at all) but because the official week is looking more interesting...unfortunately it would feature a big event for my oldest DS (his return from a 12 day school trip to Germany).
I only got a few of the new AE supplies because I have so much leftover from past years including an entire kit I got at a great price (after initially skipping the kit). I wasn't wild about this year's kit and I've come to realize how little of the WITL kits I use, especially as I do more and more digital work on mini albums like this. I will do 6x8 again.

This coming week will be my second witl this year. Yep, nuts I know. BUT I knew my life was changing I’m a major way about mid year, and I have only tried the project once before (last year in lockdown, still need to finish this project but I got the one I did from earlier this year completed!) and I have heaps of older kits and a matching album (was on sale for cheap!)etc to use so I thought why not?!? 3x8 size so not too overwhelming, and I’m excited to do it when everyone else is for once to get lots of inspiration 😁

I've done 2 WITL albums so far (2016 and 2020). It was fun cause I was in such different points in my life those weeks. I really want to do one this year since my son starts preschool in the fall, so this is the last of the non-school time.
I've found if I don't do it with the community then I fall off the wagon documenting about 3 days in, so I will be documenting the week of the 20th. That week also ends with my son's 3rd birthday, so a fun way to document the day and round out the week.
I've got a an old 2018 AE WITL kit and album sitting in my stash that I am going to use.

For those of you who have completed or mostly completed this project, what advice would you give?
Do you have any tips or tricks?
I'll add them to the first post. I know I will get a little kit together of stuff I already have that matches the AE stuff I bought.

My tips:

I've never considered doing this project until this year after reading all the great ideas posted. I'm loving all the ideas in sleepingbooty 's post, I can get behind documenting all of those! That being said, we'll be camping that entire week of the 20th so I might do it the later in the summer if I do it at all. I'll probably just incorporate some of these ideas into my project life album because even though this sounds exciting and fun, I am eternally lazy when it comes to projects outside of my normal ones.

There is another scrapbooker who was part of the design team (not sure if she's one of the influencers now or not) and this is what she does every year. She just makes it part of her Project Life. She talks about it in this podcast: www.craftyassfemale.com/185It's the first I've heard of the podcast and I enjoyed the episode. I downloaded a couple of the Brandi Kincaid ones to listen to as well.

But at least they are releasing some content!

Thanks for sharing, mom . I think the Ali videos are probably a good idea and the best alternative to an actual prep day. People still follow her brand mostly for her and with the lack of traditional PL from her this year, this feels like a nice, free treat for all. Going to do this at the same time. I’ve done it once before when grand was here. Life was not our norm and the photos and journaling reflected same. This time life will be the norm. I might just do arbitrary times. Spontaneous in a way. No set theme. But I reserve the right to change that up!

sleepingbooty Love your list. Definitely plan to use them. Thank you. Citygirl I didn't even realize there was a journal. That is cool to see. I'm halfway kicking around trying to do this all digital to see how I like an all digital project. I normally just put it in my regular PL album but this could be the perfect project to try going full digital and print a photo book. I guess I still have a bit to decide.

This will be my first year. I do weekly PL and I decided to make the last week of June my week to finish off the half point of the year and that album. Then I’ll finish off the next 6 month period with an abbreviated December daily-ish project.
I just don’t like having a bunch of of separate albums and I feel I capture the weeks decently already so this seemed like a good fit for me.
I bought a lot of AE WITL kit stuff for the project. loving the ideas so far. I’ll focus on ideas that are different than things I typically include in my album.
I also like the idea of doing one week after the community so I can get some ideas since I haven’t done this before.

I was thinking about the question of how to make this easier to be able to complete the project. All of my albums are finished and the way I work on them seems to work for me. First I set out all the page protectors in the album alternating configurations. I rarely work on the album during the week but make sure to take photos, lots of photos so I have options. The next week or when I'm able to work on it...only the products I'm using will be on my desk. I will go through and print out photos by the day and then put them in the pp. Then I go back to the beginning and add journalling. After that's done, then I go back and add embellishments etc. I sometimes keep a pattern sometimes I don't. But I find it I do it assembly line style I'm able to complete the album and get it done. I also try not to over think it.

I will be participating the week of the 20th (actually starting on the 19th because here in AZ weeks start on Sunday lol)
I got some of the digital kit and stamps- and have items in my stash so I plan to miss mash things together.
This is my favorite project of the whole year. This year I want to add some video into my project (via uploading them to a private YouTube and making a QR code)
The latest podcast of the Crafty Ass Females started a 3 part series about the project with a lot of different ideas/guests talking about how they complete the project.
I am going to test out one of the 10x8 albums to see how I like them.
Looking so forward to it!

I might do a summery WITL in early July. I have half the week off for a short staycation and a few things planned that I'd love to document more in-depth. But if so, I will likely be going digital. joblackford You in for a photobook WITL this year? Maybe a Blurb trade book?
