Fast forwarding through peoples' flip throughs and album set ups on Youtube today.. Shu-wen from Chouxpuff Creations flipped through her 2021 album and showed off her 2022 set up. I always love her stuff even though I'd never recreate any of it lmao
Her 2022 album shows up about 22 minutes in and she used digitals to make her own version of the stitched heart pockets from this year that I think are really lovely!

Her interactive stuff is amazing! I love seeing everyone’s walk throughs. So inspiring. I love how she is going to use those giant cut out words/phrases as her lens for the days. I hadn’t thought of that when I bought those.

I had a thought about something that I don't think we document very much but that changes quite fast and might be amusing to include for future readers - the new technological things that we're excited about.
Today I used the text recognition feature on my iPhone camera to cut and paste a quote into my journal and then made sure to record how I did that in the journal too because how cool is that? But also, how much will we look back on this kind of thing in the future and laugh about how excited we were about something that is normal and mundane (or maybe never took off).
It might be interesting to make a note of how you triggered your shutter for selfies if you're using an app or even just making a note about how good phone cameras are now if you're leaving your dSLR at home. I think that would make an interesting filler on a slow day.

I might do a summery WITL in early July. I have half the week off for a short staycation and a few things planned that I'd love to document more in-depth. But if so, I will likely be going digital. joblackford You in for a photobook WITL this year? Maybe a Blurb trade book? I've been thinking some more and I've decided that I might do one, but I'll do it in the same week as my last one from 2015. It's a random week but I like the idea of comparing the same week 7 years apart. I've been feeling quite uninspired in photography lately, probably because I've been spending too much time photographing FIL's antique clutter to give away or sell, so it would be good to give myself a challenge and a project. Or maybe I'm just languishing. Thanks for the videos, btw, adding those to my watchlist.

I think it's a great idea and you'll have some interesting evolutions come to the surface. I hope you include a shot of yourself working your way through your FIL's antiques. While I know it has become a burden, it's a massive project you decided to see through and that's not only admirable but worthy of documenting. I still remember the uranium glass you'd shared on the board a couple of years ago...

Ugh. Just want to vent. I planned on doing WITL next week because I thought my son would be flying home for his vacation from the military. And now that's been moved to the week after. I am so bummed! So now I wonder --- do I reschedule my WITL for him coming home or just go ahead and do it next week and be done with it?

mom ugh. Bummer. I’m doing mine the week after the community since I am including it as extra pages at the end of my PL album and I didn’t want to have the WITL pages and then one last week (of the 6 months in the album). I guess it depends on what you want to record most/what is more important to you? Doing same week as community or including your son? Also, would you rather have a more “normal” week without your son there or the interest of having him there? Hard call!

I'm right there with you on trying to decide if I want to do the community week or the week after that will be more of a "normal" week. We are still surrounded by moving boxes (grateful to have my stuff, but unpacking in a much smaller space is the pits) and we will be out of town for 2 of the days. I'm worried if I don't do it with the community, I won't do it but I'd rather have it be a "regular" week. I feel pretty torn on which way to go.

Sorry mom! I know how much you've been looking forward to your kiddo's leave (and WITL). It's really up to you whether you'd prefer the madness of documenting the week + your son's return or want to separate both to better enjoy each experience. I'm not doing WITL until early July but I understand the in-real-time community project is important to others. Considering I'm a happy lone wolf documenter, I'd probably postpone the WITL. But I also understand you may just want to soak up all the time you can get with your son and not worry about documenting at the same time...

Shannan M has a video talking about her plans for digital photobook WITL with a very cool little "moodboard" type of thing she created. It's both a testing ground and a way to keep things consistent, but also because it's digital it's a shortcut - she can drag things into her current page from the moodboard or use the eye dropper tool to pick one of the colors she has chosen... Maybe it's an obvious thing designers always use but for this novice it seemed like genius! She also has a blog post reviewing some of her previous projects www.shannanm.com/post/ali-edwards-week-in-the-life-project

I'm sure you will go with your gut and chose the right answer for you. It's totally fine not to be doing it the same week as everyone else - it sounds like your son's visit was going to be an important part of it, so I would go ahead and delay it a week. I feel like if you went ahead and did it next week you'd be thinking about how you wanted it to be which would poison the whole project for me.

joblackford, I also loved seeing how she store her things in Lightroom and makes collection. This may be obvious to digital scrapper but it didn’t click to me until today. And I was like - I must import it all into Lightroom right now. I also really liked the mood board. One of the things I also take from her is how she test fonts and selects one and the size and just remains cohesive. She’s one of my favs.

She’s one of my favs. I brought all my digiscrap stuff into Lightroom (Classic) after seeing her use it a few years back but I don't bother to tag or organize very much. I just use the search function to find stuff. My most common search is IACB but I should create a couple of collections for Christmas and everyday life stuff, and I never really thought to create a collection in LRm for a specific project (even though I do that with my photos). She does a lot more planning than I do! I've learned a lot from her, and also ignored her very good advice like printing a sample page to check that the fonts are a good size.

I decided to start today a couple of days ago. I have grand plans for going strawberry picking and having fabulous photos in the strawberry field and having the perfect photographed day.
Well my kid has pink eye now and our day is up in the air.
I say this all kind of jokingly because my day will still be wonderful and I will photograph the real but it’s also a lesson to just go with the flow.
So here’s to hoping I get a telehealth visit this morning and can add that to my album.
ETA: got a telehealth visit. How amazing is technology? And now we return to our scheduled Saturday and strawberries.

I know I will not want to take photos of random, mundane stuff when he's home. So I will continue on with my plan for next week and everything will be ok.

Live and learn. This was my first week for WITL. I got too excited and bought a lot of product… that now I see I don’t really need or even really want. I’ll probably just save quite a bit for other years - I prefer Mixing up various things anyway with other things I have over using a straight kit. Someone remind me next year not to buy anything for WITL!!! 😂

If I do this project (and it's a HUGE if) I won't be doing it until the week after next. We're camping next week so it won't be a "normal" week. After watching all the videos and listening to all the podcasts, I'm overwhelmed with all the possibilities and am suffering from decision fatigue. I'll be curious to see what everyone does.

So, I did my WITL a month ago. In the past, this project has always led up to or ended with my birthday or it has been sometime during the WITL week. I really like how that’s worked out because its not something I normally document and I don’t know why! Now I get to go back and see how I was feeling, what I was doing regarding my birthday. I really like this so I have no plans of ever changing the week I do this project. For me, it has to be in May now I will say that I didn’t enjoy doing it without the community and ideas but I managed. I’m putting the finishing touches in my album now and will be finished with my album today! I got the main and mini kit and a few embellishments. I’m sorry to say that I had a really hard time using everything I bought this year and haven’t found it to be 6x8 album friendly. I could not figure out a way to incorporate the 4x4 cards, the gold foil die cut days of the week abbreviations, or the white hearts with the gold trim. The sizes are too odd for the different 6x8 pocket pages and I didn’t want to punch holes in them and just have them be an “insert” in my album. I also made a lot of my own 3x4 cards because the kit only came with nine. And none of them had space to write on. They have quotes/words or a pattern. I even struggled with the seven 4x6 cards because of the grid pattern. I ended up just writing on them as if they were blank. I don’t like the look of the grid on them with my writing so I might flip them over and write on the blank side….but then I will lose the little circle with the day of the week and have to make my own. Still deciding on that but chances are I’ll leave it. I’m ready to be done! I’ve never been “stuck” like this with the WITL kits. In my opinion, it needed more 3x4 cards.
