Update: they have arrested a person of interest.
This is a developing incident RIGHT NEAR MY HOUSE!!! There was one, possibly more, shooter(s) shooting down on the parade in Highland Park.
They are still on the loose. No one really knows what is going on, tons of sirens, police, ambulances, rumors, but I have heard 9 victims, 2,3,4 dead, all unconfirmed. I have friends who were right there, who were terrified, with their kids running for their cars. They may be barricaded in a local grocery store, AND I KNOW SOMEONE WHO toOK SHELTER IN THE BASEMENT THERE WHEN THIS ALL STARTED. No one can reach them.
All local paraded in surrounding towns have now been canceled.

Multiple people reportedly w ere shot Monday morning, at least one fatally, about 10 minutes into the northern suburb’s Fourth of July parade, according to witnesses and published reports. According to the Highland Park police Facebook page, authorities were responding to a situation in downtown Highland Park, in Lake County. The hail of gunfire caused a stampede of people to flee, he said. I work just a few miles from Highland Park and know many who live there. One of my coworkers was at the parade with her young family. Thankfully they are safe.
All parades and festivities in the area are canceled.
I am just sickened.

Was shooting from roof
not in custody. Police knocking door to door.. shooter may have other weapons..
Requesting any video from public.

 Sad, but true. Violence, particularly gun violence, increases on the summer, and on holidays. I’m outside Chicago and sadly this is local news. Fuck all guns and people who buy them. |

Also, although I'm saddened by this and horrified, I'm just not surprised anymore. The recent shooting that caused me to say "really? ?" is the one at the mall in Copenhagen yesterday. European countries have these things happen so rarely that it's a shock when it does. Isn't it sad that people aren't surprised when it happens in the United States?  |

And they estimate shooter was between 18 and 20. If damn GQP would approve bumping age to 21, maybe this would not have happened. And he was on a roof just randomly shooting into the crowd. What the ever loving fuck.

CNN has it on right now.  Honestly, I feel more and more like I just want to stay away from any place where there are a lot of people. Right? My 25 year old son and his three buddies are taking a road trip through several states in the west next week. I have an overwhelming urge to remind him to be careful at places like Mt. Rushmore, where crowds gather. I don't know what we have become. I do know we will become something worse if action is not taken to put a stick in the spokes of gun purchases. |
