What’s the big brouhaha on RTS?

I had a not so pleasant experience with gin and tonics (overindulged and had the worst hangover for almost 2 days) so now when I smell gin or even pine trees I get nauseous.

I don’t like it when people offer their ‘factual’ opinions on what they did not witness. As if they did witness the occurrence.

I don’t like it when people act like know it alls.

And sorry I’m not terribly fond of most gins. Especially gin paired with tonic but I’ll take a gin lemonade if your serving.

"Scrapbooking is more than just a hobby.


I think alot of us feel that way. And I think alot of us utilize scrapbooking as a way to deal with the 'not-so-happy' fragments of real life. Scrapbooking provides us with a happy place to take our mind and emotions.

Recently, some people within our own scrapbooking community decided to throw some unkindness my way. I don't know why. I certainly don't understand why. I stay in my own lane, I mind my own business, and I try to encourage others as much as I can. Most of us that share anything about our hobby online are used to negative comments and you learn to let that roll off your back. But, when people attack you personally, that is a line you don't cross. And to know that this particular unkindness came from other scrappers (whom I adored), it completely crushed my spirit.

I don't do the 'drama' thing in life; but one thing I loathe even more than drama- it is nastiness. Because I don't understand that concept. We are taught in grade school that if you don't care for something or someone, you just move on. It's not hard. So why people in our hobby and our scrapbooking community don't grasp that idea; I will never understand. And I certainly don't understand why I am such an easy target for people. I truly thought that my coming here to Patreon, I would not have to deal with this type of behavior. I guess unkindness is everywhere; even within our hobby. A hobby in which we focus on the good things in life. Negativity has no room here.

So long story short- I have cried many, many tears and said many prayers. My spirit was crushed so harshly that I truly thought scrapbooking was over for me. Not just online, but in my personal life as well. That fact upset me even more, because scrapbooking is way more than just a hobby for me, and I am sure, for you too.

But....GOD sent me an Army. His Army. He sent many people in this hobby and our community that helped me carry this burden and try to get my mind, spirit and my scrappy heart back to the right place. I feel that He has laid it on my heart as to how to lift this sadness and this unkind burden. And that is to 'SHOW EVEN MORE KINDESS'. . .

That's God for ya. Take something unkind and make it MORE kind.

And that is what I will do.

I simply cannot let these people take away my happy place, my joy and what I feel I am led to do. Thank you being that Army for me. Thank you for helping my carry this burden. Thank you for showing me who to focus on. Thank you for standing up for me. Thanks for speaking out. Thanks for having my back. Thank you for being someone who BUILDS this hobby; rather than tear it down. Thank you...

We are going to KEEP ON, as scrapbooking is more than just a hobby for us!

And the ones that don't like my videos, my voice, my accent, my personality, my hosting platforms, what we do here at RTS, and can't encourage others; they can simply MOVE ON...

Plus, I have too much paper to stop now. Lol.

Yep lot's of let's blame the other guy mindset there. And poor little me going on.

And can someone please explain why you couldn't continue to personally scrapbook if you really wanted to? If you really loved this hobby so much what the hell difference does or would it make?

Other than money. And adoring fans.

Her videos on you tube were all hands so if that bothers someone then Janet is not their cup of tea. Period. It’s not mean. It’s just a preference. If you state that preference without naming names it is not bullying or mean. There’s any number of people who make hand gestures in crafting videos.

I mostly listen to scrapping videos when I’m working on other things so for me I have to enjoy the persons voice. No offense to anyone but if your voice gets on my nerves then your video won’t serve my need of background noise while I’m working. It’s not mean to state that preference especially if I don’t add a name to it. There are people I follow on Instagram that I’m not going to listen to videos from them. Love their work that I see on Instagram but the videos don’t fit what I’m looking for.

I’m not asking anyone to change. They should be themselves. That how it is, it is fine. But my preferences are different than other peoples preferences and not every video is going to match all of that at once. It’s fine. That’s how life works. People are different. People like different things. It is just how it is.
I mean really, wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same & liked the same things?

Does Janet hear herself? I don't think she does, because that letter is a textbook example of performative hypocrisy. Blech. Oh, and a massive victim complex. If "I don't like you" is enough to 'crush her spirit' (and for clarity, I don't think what the YTer said was even CLOSE to that, but more a "I don't care for this trait", which isn't a personal attack!) then in all kindness Janet needs to get away the internet, permanently. Like hire a media manager and never touch e-mail, directly interact with forums/blogs/followers, or read anything that hasn't been checked for content levels of informational insulation.

But I'm pretty sure we all know what's actually going to happen, and it ain't that.

SMH.  Like they even know what persecution really is.  Sadly, they aren't the only ones who use this term so loosely.  And, yes, we must all be jealous.  "It's not me; it's everyone else."  That explains it.  What a delusional, isolated world they live in.
