Happy belated birthday justjac! If I had to choose between waiting for an hour or wearing flip flops in the cold, I would choose flip flops too lol. nylene, I'm sorry your shoulder isn't better. Surgery sounds no fun either, (((hugs))) kellyr21 your painting is wonderful! Great job on the snow! Have you always lived in Cali? grammadee, I had noticed a few months ago that when I open a crop, once I've started the meeting, it prompts me to join which seems strange. So far it still lets me in lol. gramma this football season has been so weird. There are really no stand out teams, and I'm calling an upset on the Ravens - Idk why, I don't believe Lamar is "that" QB. I think he's going to end up another Dak. Great in the regular season but can't play in the post season. And CJ Stroud reminds me of Mahomes. And of course I'm crossing everything for the Chiefs to move on lol. I'm so happy for the Lions, I'm rooting for them to win at least one more. kitbop were you opening a crop tomorrow night? I'm waiting to see if it really pans out but I may be able to join after all if so! It has been soooo cold here. We got a warm up to 30 yesterday and it felt like spring lol. We go back to single digits later today, so it was short lived. The corner where the Christmas tree was is piling up with things to be donated but I'm a wuss so I have been staying home and cozy and barely leaving to get groceries lol.

brrr for flipflops justjac - I've never had a pedicure so that wouldn't have occured to me at all. grammadee - hopefully it'll work for you I really can't complain about our cold given how super-cold the rest of you are but Florida is experiencing a cold snap - lows in the 20s and 30s - which is COLD for here. kitbop and joyfulnana - I should be able to join if a crop opens tomorrow

kellyr21, I love your painting. The background is so pretty and your snowy branches look so real. I especially love your little birdies. They actually look cold! I'm glad to see you using those new canvasses. What is next for your painting? justjac, how funny to have to go out in this cold in flipflops. I'm sure your feet were freeeeezing! Glad you had a nice birthday. grammadee, I looked in the gallery and you have done tons of new pages! I need to get in there to leave comments. You have such a great start for this year! Linda, I saw your genealogy pages in the Sharing thread. I was able to read them and really enjoyed them. What a lot of info you get on 2 beautiful pages. Also loved your other pages. The Lego papers are perfect and I loved seeing the Atlanta page up close. Those colors and rounded edges are perfect for the color of your photo. Please feel free to post any of your layouts on this thread, 4 or 100. I can't keep up with the Sharing thread and hesitate to comment on some but not all that are posted there. Just know that I love your pages and love having new designs to "scraplift". I have an appt with a orthopedic surgeon at the end of the month. The Dr who has done so much of DH's facial/cancer surgery recommended him highly. We really trust his opinion. Have a great weekend, everyone.

I will open a crop this evening and post it here. Hoping you can come joyfulnana! justjac - I don't know that I could tolerate flip flops even for 2 minutes in this weather. But I bet your toes are pretty! nylene - it's so hard to navigate the shoulder. You don't want to go thru surgery for little return on investment, but sometimes I think the orthos will operate for $$ when they know it's not going to make a big difference. So I'm really glad you got a recommendation for a good surgeon! kellyr21 - You are a wonderful role model in how you push yourself into different types of art and mediums and just keep learning! Beautiful job with the birds.

I am hesitent to share too many here - I'm always worried about overloading the sharing thread and I feel like it would be worse on this thread but I will try and remember to share the genealogy ones here. Hoping to have another done over the weekend - my writeup is almost complete -3 wives and 15 children made it a bit more complex. I have an appt with a orthopedic surgeon at the end of the month. The Dr who has done so much of DH's facial/cancer surgery recommended him highly. We really trust his opinion. (((Hugs))) I'm glad you have a good referral. I will open a crop this evening and post it here Yay! I have more Girl Scout pages to work on - hoping to get her Senior GS album (9th/10th grade) finished up - just the Boundary Waters trip left. And then I can start the Ambassador GS album (11/12th grade). For my older daughter, I did all 4 years in one album but DD17 is in a much more active troop. DD17 is home sick today. She mentioned nausea last night and was still feeling unwell this morning so...she stayed home. I have some housework to do and hopefully finish up the genealogy writeup and pancakes for dinner tonight and then the crop.

Thank you kitbop for opening the crop last night - it was so nice to chat with everyone while I finished up the Girl Scout album and made my valentine cards. The time just flew by - I was surprised at how late it was when it ended. Cold here (for us) again today with a wind chill warning. I suspect most of you would consider it balmy for winter though. I'll go grocery shopping once DH comes home from the flea market. Hopefully I can get the two genealogy write-ups I finished yesterday turned into scrapbook pages later today - I'll share them here nylene when I do. One is DH's 7th great grandparents and the other is one of his cousins (many times removed) who was a revolutionary war soldier.

Good morning, Pokeys. Sorry I didn't pop into the crop, kitbop. My gut decided to throw a mini tantrum last night so I couldn't really focus on anything else from about 5:30 until about 2?00AM. Thankfully then it decided to behave and let me get some sleep. This was an odd one. Had not eaten anything out of the ordinary. In fact all I DID eat yesterday was Cheerios and skim milk at noon. Just saw all your pages and cards from last night, Linda. No wonder the time flew by! nylene I hope your surgeon appointment goes well. Did you get yourself an electronic die cutter yet? I am off to the hockey arena in a bit to watch a game, then dd and dgs are coming over to take down our tree and stow away all the ornaments. My living room looks like a yard sale now with all the Santas and snowmen and angels and wreaths taken down and lying in open boxes. They will carry that stuff downstairs for me to return to tubs down there while they remove decorations and lights from the tree. Then there will be some furniture moving and vacuuming. I promised them supper tonight but not sure right now what that will be. (Afraid to think too much about food in case I wake up my grouchy gut) And dgs has announced he is "staying over". He has another game tomorrow afternoon in a community I used to teach in, so I plan to be driving him to that.

Happy Saturday! I woke up to a rainy day here. Lots of you all are having "real" cold weather and I am sending you all a warm hello. I think it's been in the 60's during the day here and sort of warm. But the evening have been cooler. So joyfulnana I am enjoying this cool and embracing it before the hot temps creep up again. LOL! Not much happening today. Thanks for all the cheers on my bird painting. kitbop, I feel like I am in my own art school now and I want to learn more styles like landscapes and florals. This weekend nylene, I might start another bird painting I saw on YT with flamingos. It was so colorful and looked sort of easy. So we'll see. joyfulnana- Yes, I am a Cali native! Enjoy football this weekend. Go Chiefs! nylene- Take it easy and an electronic die cut machine sounds like a great idea that linda mentioned. Cranking those handles is a pain! LOL! grammadee- Hope your tummy is back to normal today. Take it easy, too.

kellyr21, I look forward to your next painting. You are so brave to try all these new art skills! grammadee , I hope your tummy troubles are gone for good. So nice of the boys to help you remove your tree. I need to get that done next week. I haven't ordered an electronic cutter yet, but am seriously considering it. DH has been cutting everything I have needed lately. I think he's on board now for electric. They are just so expensive! I'm looking toward my b-day and Mother's Day that come close together. Linda , never worry about flooding this thread with layouts. The original intent of this thread many years ago was to get Peas to post at least 4 pages a month here. Post away if you want. I am not on a team this quarter and will probably post all my layouts here. Here are the 4 for January. Happy news here today. DGD had a Zoom gender reveal today for their first child.... it's a girl! Em is going to be a grandma! (of course technology got the better of me and we could see but not be seen...audio only worked on and off. But we got the message.)

Congratulations nylene - new babies are such a blessing! I love your layouts - such a sweet photo of Eddie and Hailey -those butterflies are gorgeous! Those pincones are perfect with that adorable picture of Swayzee and Gracee. How is Swayzee finding big sisterhood now the new has worn off? Awesome layout of your author with the computer! And 50's vibe of your Halloween page is amazing! Here are mine from the crop last night. -layouts are all 8x8 and pretty simple for the Girl Scout album

Great pages, Linda ! I love seeing the Valentines up close. What is the name of that embossing folder? It is a wonderful background. Love the corner to corner GS page design and laughed at the "Canoe handle it"embellishment. My answer would be NO. It looks like they could all handle and enjoy it. Gorgeous sunset! I love the matching torn edges on your background. Very classy layout! Swayzee has decided having a little sister is fun. She does get a bit miffed if grandpa spends more time with Gracee than he's spending with her. She's used to undivided attention when he is home.

Thanks nylene - I'm not sure the name of the folder - it's Lifestyle Crafts brand if that helps. I'm glad Swayzee likes having a little sister - understandable being a bit miffed at having to share attention.

Good Morning Pokeys! It was so good to hang out with you guys Friday night. I guess the weekend "switch" wasn't a true switch this weekend, just a split weekend. Rudy is grown up, he came over yesterday to ask if we could have a lunch date while dad works today. I'm not used to him being old enough to come popping over like that with no supervision lol So that will be my afternoon today. Yesterday was our last day of below zero and we get back in the low 40s later in the week, I'm so glad lol. Linda I'll bet 30s feels very cold to you there in Florida. Congrats gramma on the 49ers win! I'm on the Purdy doesn't get enough respect wagon today lol. After watching that Ravens game, knowing the Chiefs have to get through them AND a crazy mad Bills Mafia stadium, I just don't know. Those stadiums were LOUD and it was hard to the opposing teams to hear for sure. Although I'm totally ok with Mahomes being the on the road villain that spoils things today. grammadee I hope your gut is being nicer today. I love it that DGS announces his plans lol. Gives me all the warm fuzzies at how much he enjoys his time on the farm. nylene I hope you'll get the electric cutter! I can't imagine you wouldn't get your money's worth from it just based on the cutting you did in December! Linda and nylene I'm loving your pages. I really like that half and half design Linda, I actually have a similar sketch out now to use. Such great photos, I think the one with the sunset and the torn edge waves is my fav. nylene the yellow paper behind the pictures of the girls really highlights the photo, and I love that photo of the best friends. It's so precious. kellyr21 enjoy your cooler temps! I know I wanted cooler weather, but I didn't mean this cold LOL!

AussieMeg, Swayzee started out with hair as dark as Gracee's. By the time she was Gracee's age she had gone blond. I think Gracee will have dark hair like her mom and Swayzee will be a blond like her dad.

Good Monday morning, Pokeys! How is your week starting out? On Saturday, dd & dgs took down the tree and carted *all* the Christmas ornaments, big and small, downstairs. Dgs stayed over Saturday night and yesterday morning he and I put away *all* the big and small ornaments into tubs and stowed those tubs with the Christmas tree box. Today I am dusting up here and putting stuff back where it spends most of the year. Well, I said *all*, but I am still finding Christmas things up here as I restore my everyday knickknacks in place.
Before I started housework, I put together a two pager I will use as a sample for one of the 29-4-29 days I will be missing. I now have two done ahead of time, so if I can get my sample done in time for February 1st, I should be all set to play along with lots of time for the other samples.
Last week I thought my gut issues were simply that--MY gut issues. I was surprised they let up after about 12 hours, was expecting them to get worse, but other than fatigue, I was fine. But maybe they were the result of what the hockey folks here are calling "the dreaded dressing room bug", the ailment several kids and parents from the team have been hit with. Yesterday evening the same symptoms hit dd: bloating, abdominal pain, extreme nausea. Poor dgs phoned me to ask "How do you stop a parent from throwing up?" I suggested he take her some ice to suck on cuz that sometimes helps, and to basically give her lots of space. She says she is feeling much better this morning. Drove dgs to the corner store before school to purchase some Gatorade (sports drink with electrolytes) and plans to sleep all day.

Sounds like you've gotten Christmas undecorating well in hand with some good help! Today is dh's birthday - we're pretty lowkey for birthdays but I got him a couple of small things and made a cake and a card and will cook the dinner of his choice tonight (steelhead trout, rice, and mixed veg)

Linda , what a great memory book of A's Girl Scout adventures. I love the hiking page with the big fall leaves in the foreground. Wonderful cover, and love the boot embellishment. What cute little manatees! I hunted all over for manatees when I was doing pages of Eddie. Those are delightful. But my favorites are your genealogy pages and I really appreciate your posting them large enough to read. Your first story has so much detail. How sad that Mary lost her first 2 girls and died shortly thereafter. Things were so hard back then. I love the detail you have of your Revolutionary War relative. My 5th great-grandfather fought in that war but I know nothing else about that part of his life. Thanks for sharing!!

Post by Linda on Jan 24, 2024 23:08:01 GMT
Thank you nylene. The big manatee is a QK die and the smaller ones are Lawn Fawn stamps/dies. DS loves manatees (we all do but they were his favourite from childhood) so when I see manatee scrapbook stuff, I tend to buy it. I was fortunate to find transcripts from his pension files on line which is where some of that detail came from. DH has a particular interest in military history so I'm trying to write up the various ancestors who served in the military for him.
