This challenge is for those who scrap slowly and need encouragement to keep scrapping all month or those who want a little encouragement to continue scrapping. It is great for those new to Challenges and is a fun place to come chat with other Pokey scrappers. 1. Post a layout each week, or four layouts per month. These can be posted in the thread or in the gallery. If you post in the gallery, be sure to come to the thread and tell us you posted and tell us the name of the layout so we can find it. You can copy the URL from the gallery and paste it directly into your thread for a link. 2. This challenge can be combined with any other challenges and can be paper, digital or hybrid scrapping. These can be cards, layouts or altered items or any other creative projects. 3. Please comment on the work of others on the thread as your time allows. We all love comments on our layouts. 4. Have fun with this! This should be a "no pressure" challenge. Just post what you finish whether it is one layout or more than four. Come chat with the group as time permits. We love to welcome new members. If you are on a Team, complete the 4 challenges and post them on this thread for an extra 4 points

Welcome to the August thread. August means that summer is coming to a close...too fast for me. I hope you find lots of time to scrap and that our sick Pokeys will have a better month. Thinking about you gramma, grammadee, kitbop, and Linda, and Miss Abby. I haven't managed to even read through the Team Challenges, but hope to do that and figure my few points for my team this weekend. I did complete 2 pages today, but won't post until tomorrow. It felt good to put glue to paper! I am hoping to get all my Christmas cards made before the end of Sept. My husband reminded me that we could just buy our cards this year. Oh, no! It may come to that. Have a happy, scrappy August, my friends.

Wow, gramma ! You are rockin' those cards! Happy August, everyone. This is a month full of garden work, but also enjoyment of all the fresh produce. So far, we have eaten lettuce & radishes, peas, potatoes, onions, and cabbage. Soon there will be green beans. The cukes and pumpkins are blooming. Friday I want to do a stir fry with celery, broccoli, chard, zucchini, and baby carrots. I am hoping to get down to Calgary for our oldest dgs's engagement party (He and his fiancee live in BC and I have not seen them since a year ago May). The first weekend in August is a long weekend, called Heritage Day in Alberta. On Saturday I will be going with my niece to "Haying in the 30's”, and event with pioneer demo's and old time food and music.

It seems rather tidy that I'm heading back to work on August 1! I'm at about 66% today. I am also working this long weekend unfortunately. grammadee, your garden sounds lush, and I really hope you get to see your DGS! How long a drive is it, 4 hours or so? nylene, thank you again for setting up the pokey thread! Your DH is so right about the cards - don't let a source of joy become a source of stress or pain! You could always make a few for important close people and buy the bulk!

My husband reminded me that we could just buy our cards this year. I agree with him - it's okay to send purchased cards It seems rather tidy that I'm heading back to work on August 1! I'm at about 66% today. I am also working this long weekend unfortunately. (((Hugs))) gramma - love the kid cards - especially the adorable piggy! grammadee - sounds like your garden is doing well despite the weather challenges earlier this year. I hope you are able to go to the engagement party. I'm feeling a bit better today and hopefully that'll continue. So far DD seems okay - fingers crossed on that also continuing. My taste buds are still wonky so eating is a chore. I've lost 5lbs this week... Hoping to count points today and also work on labelling the 4 packets of photos that UPS dropped off yesterday.

Look after yourselves, Pokeys! I hope that going back to work at 66% doesn't throw you backwards in your recovery, kitbop. Glad you are planning a relatively easy day, Linda. nylene I know how much you want to make those cards, but I don't want the process to be a huge struggle for you, or a huge stress of trying to get them all done. Are there some shapes you would like diecut or is there some other help we could give you? Or could you go from using your own cuts to using pre-made diecuts &/or stickers? I need to get busy getting my August cards put together and ready to put into the mail. For some reason it slipped my mind that August comes directly after July We have dgs today while his mom & dad are at work. Then his dad is coming here to stay the night with him and spend time with him tomorrow so Mom can have uninterrupted time to work on a project she needs to finish. Gotta go--they just drove into our drive...

Happy Thursday! nylene, thanks for the new thread!!! Waving hi to you all and praying you are having a nice day. We went to the park concert last night and it was fun. The band was a rock piano group so they played music from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. It was fun to sing along to some of the ones we recognized. Next week will be that last concert and I feel sad already! LOL! Can't believe it's August already. Working this week on the flower art and video. This has been such a joy and I hope these paintings make you smile, too. Not sure when I will have it done but I will share it with you ladies. kitbop- Yeah, I want to see as many Olympic sports as possible, too. Today, I am taking an Olympics break but this weekend I will be glued to the TV again. LOL! I am curious to see the Breakdancing competition since it is new. SO funny that is in the Olympics. gramma- Great job on your cards!!! grammadee- SO glad your garden is thriving and you are enjoying the bounty! Wish we all could visit you and have a big feast together. justjac- I love wearing dresses and got some nice casual ones a few months ago from JCPennys.

Happy August! gramma what awesome cards! The animals are so fun and the little girls are cute. They make me think of Holly Hobby dolls for some reason. nylene I hope you will consider buying at least some of your cards this year. And congrats on the coming little one! kitbop I hope you made it through the day, I think you are bananas for going back at 66% but I'm older than you and don't bounce back so fast LOL Linda I hope you feel better soon. And that it stays away from DD. Is anyone up for a crop tomorrow? I'll plan to be here. I can't believe it's August already. We are over halfway through 2024 and it has gone so fast.

Well damn. Today it was dh's turn to spend the night in the hospital. He has been struggling with a hernia for the last couple of years. This spring, he finally agreed to see a surgeon, and he is scheduled for a repair August 21st. But this week has been tough for him, and this afternoon his gut pain was bad, so I finally convinced him to go into the outpatient clinic. The doctor decided to keep him over night while she consults the radiologist to see if he has a blockage, and the surgeon to see if his procedure can be moved up. I am glad that they are trying some different pain meds on him, b/c I suspect that some of the "supplements" he has been taking may be playing havoc with his digestive system--as well as his moods.
Not sure what will happen tomorrow. If they can get him eating and drinking without pain, they will send him home. If not, he may be there a few days. Dgs was with me all day helping in the garden. His dad came after work and finished cooking supper for the two of them while I took Grampa in. They are both staying here tonight so Mom can get some work done.

Is anyone up for a crop tomorrow? I'll plan to be here. Yes grammadee - Oh no! Healthy hopes coming through for your DH! Dealing with an obstruction on top of the surgery sounds like bigger surgery than planned, so I'm hoping you can go back to the original date/intention! Yikes. Glad they kept him - guess they know that farmers don't complain. In our hospital its: ER doc: "did the farmer's wife drag him in?" ER nurse: "no." ER doc: "get the crash cart".

grammadee - oh no! hope all goes well for your DH. You guys are having a time of it. Glad your DS was there to take over. kitbop - how are you feeling after a day of work? DH has a desk job and it still wiped him when he went back. joyfulnana - I'm aiming to be there - I need to find my scrap desk though first. I didn't clean up after my last layout (unusual for me) plus I got an album order (with a couple of freebies) stacked on top plus the envelopes of photos I labelled yesterday. kellyr21 - that sounds like a fun concert! gramma - super cute cards! You've been a busy bee getting so many assembled!

gramma, all of those cards are so adorable. I tried to make the photo bigger so I could read the sentiments on your little girl cards. What do they say? Love all the animals, too. You have a real talent for putting papers and colors together. kitbop, how are you feeling since going back to work and knowing you will work the weekend? Hope you are back to healthy! Linda, I can't believe all you have accomplished with having Covid. It really washed me out. I hope you and DH both get back to normal life and that you don't get handed one more "house and yard" issue. It has been quite the year for you guys. grammadee, your garden produce sounds wonderful. We always ate from our garden when I was a kid. I am sorry I didn't plant tomatoes this year. I am hoping local stands will have some soon because the grocery store ones are terrible. I loved walking by picking a sun warmed tomato to enjoy while doing chores. I hope your DH recovers and is able to wait for his surgery. DH had a blockage and had 2 days inpatient then surgery and another day in. Hugs to both of you. kellyr21, I am sorry the concerts are coming to an end. I'm sure the rock piano was a lot of fun. Let us know when your video is ready. You are so brave to do that. What kind of flowers are you painting? justjac and kellyr21, I am envious of your new dresses. I can never find a dress that I like, that fits me. I spend my Sundays in skirts and blouses, but get tired of the bulk around my middle. Maybe I will venture out and look again. I searched for days for a dress that matched my DGD's wedding colors and finally gave up and wore skirt and blouse. joyfulnana, so nice to know that Abby is doing better. I hope to join a crop tonight. I don't have anything planned to work on, but I have 5 hours to come up with something. LOL Have a great weekend, everyone!

It has been quite the year for you guys. Oh I haven't been accomplishing much of anything...DD17 has been cooking and keeping up with dishes etc...Showering still tires me out. Yesterday was really the first day that my brain didn't feel foggy so I took advantage of that to count points and label photos. Today I stripped one of the upstairs beds and had to stop halfway down the stairs with the basket to catch my breath, lol. And I'm definitely more than ready for my taste buds to return to normal. Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight.

Hey Pokeys! Dh is much improved today, and the doctor was going to send him home, but as stubborn as he was to avoid going IN to the hospital, he now was adament that he was not ready to come home. I think he was really scared the attack would happen again. He was doing well on full fluids today, so the dr agreed to put him on a full diet and see how he did for another night. I suspect that some of the "health supplements" he has been taking for pain have been playing havoc with his digestion, and asked them to try a couple of alternate pain meds for his arthrytis while they have him. So far the schedule for his hernia surgery is still on track.
Dgs and dad are still here. They did a bunch of yard work today while I was spending time with dh at the hospital. And then they helped me pick raspberries when I came home. Dgs called me while I was in town to ask if he could bake a cake. I suggested he try cup cakes cuz they use the oven a shorter time. He served me cupcakes and CoolWhip when I got home. They had an "interesting" texture b/c I guess he interpreted the amount of baking soda as TABLESPOONS rather than teaspoons, but they taste not too bad (and are very fluffy LOL)
Tomorrow I plan to attend the heritage fair. Dd's family will look after picking Grampa up from the hospital and getting him home. Dd is a dietician, so hopefully she can explain to him what he should be eating and what he should avoid.

grammadee - I'm glad that your DH is improving. Hopefully today goes well also and that they can get his pain under control without the health supplements. How sweet of your DGS to make cupcakes. I bet they were fluffy! I'm glad he and his dad were able to help out and that your DD will be able to as well. Enjoy the heritage fair. beachy - thank you. I hope you can continue to avoid it. None of my kids have had it either but this is the 2nd round for DH and me. DD17 has volunteered to do the grocery shopping again this week - I suspect because she wants to drive (she's still on her learners). She did a good job last week so...Hopefully she won't get stressed today as I suspect the shops will be packed given we're expecting a storm on Sun/Mon. It hasn't been named yet but is projected to turn into Tropical Storm Debbie. Last time a TS Debby came to our area, she stalled over top of us and flooded two counties. This one is supposed to be a rainmaker with flooding also rather than a wind event but...hopefully a bit less rain. We're high and dry so not particularly worried for ourselves.

Linda love your pages! The page designs, and I really like a black cardstock background with bright embellishments. grammadee I'm glad DH is feeling better. Sounds like he got quite a scare if he isn't ready to come home. I'll bet those cupcakes were....interesting lol. But what a little sweetheart. He's such a helper too. I got a 2 pager done I need to get a pic of and post. It's an SG page kit. I love those for times I want to scrap but not think. They do the thinking for me lol. I took Abby back to the vet today. I saw the other vet in the practice this time. We discussed that it may be pancreatitis, which i had been thinking too. He gave me an antibiotic for her. So we are going to try that. But he also gave her a quick exam, and found something enlarged on one size, possibly a tumor. The way things stand now, I'm going to try the antibiotic and see if she improves, but he gently suggested we may be coming to her time. I'm gutted, but I've also been trying to mentally prepare for this. She is tired of me always trying to force her to eat and drink and it's really hard to watch her wasting away. Now I still need to get my laundry and housework done lol. Maybe tomorrow I will get a little bit to scrap.

He is home and tolerating light foods. Says he feels weak, but that is not surprising since he was basically lying still for three days. Hoping he can continue to rest and recover without thinking he has to take on some project that will tire him out completely without relieving frustration.
Dd & family plan to come this afternoon so dgs and dsil can help with a few of those pesky projects. And dgs wants to help construct the stir fry I had planned to make with him on Friday LOL.
"Haying in the 30's" was great. Weather was perfect and b/c we went early, we had time to walk all over the grounds to see all the displays and alot of the demo's, go for a wagon ride, sit and watch my brothers sing for an hour, partake in their beef-on-a-bun supper, and not feel rushed. Dh's sister, who drove us, would have liked to stay later, but dh was getting anxious here alone, so we left right after supper. Of course cell phone service was terrible, so it was impossible to help dh's anxiety while calls were dropped and texts not going through. When I managed to get hold of dd, she offered to drive out here, bring him a couple of meds he wanted, and chat with him for awhile.

grammadee - I'm glad he's home and hopefully resting. Sorry you had to cut your "Haying in the 30s" short - sounds like an awesome day! Cleaning house today - slowly because my energy still hasn't returned but I want at least the bathrooms and kitchen cleaned and the dishes/laundry caught up before the storm arrives. And I promised to bake cookies with DD17 (who is still asleep - it's just about 11am here)

beachy , welcome to the Pokey Pea thread. We are always happy to welcome new Peas. Introduce yourself a bit to us so we know something about you. Are you new to 2Peas Refugees? grammadee , I'm glad DH is home and tolerating some foods. I hope he continues to improve so the surgery can be done as scheduled. What a sweetie your DGS is to make cupcakes for you. Good learning lesson for him about the difference between t. and T. in a recipe. Linda , glad you are getting partly back to normal. Stopping to catch your breath on stairs is normal during Covid. I hope you continue to heal and get strength back. I hope the storm doesn't cause a lot of damage wherever it hits. I love your pages. The photos really steal the spotlight on Clue. Your embellishments couldn't be more perfect. Love the black background with the vibrant colors! joyfulnana , I am so sorry about your Abby. I hope the antibiotics will take care of her and that she can perk up and be herself. I can certainly understand your worry. Hugs! AussieMeg , nice to see you. What is going on in Australia? How's the weather? Anj and family left this morning for CA. I hated to see them go. Em is leaving for southern Ut to be there when her first granddaughter is delivered on Tues. She is so excited. I hope they all have safe travels and that the new little one comes with all well. DH and I drove through the canyon yesterday to have lunch at our favorite milkshake place. It was a nice drive, but my shoulder is really sore today. I have a class reunion in Idaho the end of the month and have to decide if I can make the drive. Hope you are all having a good weekend.
