joyfulnana - they really are easy to fussy cut - even for me who isn't very good. Have fun with Rudy - park and pizza sounds good, the humidity not so much. I live in the A/C during the summer grammadee - zucchini really DOES get big all of a sudden. We didn't get any squash in this week's box and tbh, I was grateful. Summer squash is easy to turn into breads etc...and to freeze shredded (but I have quite a bit in the freezer already) but winter squashes not so much (unless you have some tips for making it less squash like?). I don't mind squash but it's not a favourite of either DH or DD which means I've ended up eating the lions share and I'm glad for a break. I made foccacia last night for dinner - it's super easy but takes a long time - I mixed up the dough Friday evening and it rested in the fridge overnight and then had to rise for 3 hours. It was really good though. Tonight I'm making cheddar cheese scones - and I'll probably freeze what doesn't get eaten for dinner. No scrapping yesterday but I did get started on another photo project. DH and DD24 went to DC in 2012 and I've never even printed those photos. So I'm labelling them (thank you Google Image Lens) and preparing a photo order/scrapbook plan. (There's another DC trip from 2018 that also hasn't been scrapped but one at a time, lol)

Happy Monday! Waving hi to everyone! We had a nice weekend and got down to the marina yesterday. Hope you all are having a nice day. Working on more art and finished another floral painting. I am still enjoying it so I decided to keep making and playing around with glitter and different styles of vases. Also, I started another big painting a month or so ago. So, I have been working on her here and there. She will be for the "Butterfly" collection and similar in to "Meet Dominque" painting. grammadee- Wow, that zucchini was a great surprise. So fun to hear all the food you make from your garden. linda- Yummy! That bread you baked sounds good. What is your favorite thing to bake? I haven't used my oven in months. I look forward to when it cools down so I can make something different than my usual dishes. Your layout with the stars was very pretty. Go girl! joyfulnana- Football season is coming up. I am excited because it means Fall is here. LOL! Cooler temps and less a/c time.

Thanks kellyr21 - my favourite things to bake usually have chocolate, lol but in general I enjoy baking more than cooking. The nice thing about the foccacia (and the cheddar scones I made last night) is that they only take about 20 minutes to bake - I prefer to make stuff that takes a long time during the colder weather.

Everyone hanging in there? Weather, aching joints, family health? Is DH any better grammadee? I have finished printing my Florida trip photos so can finally start the "album" (it's probably gonna need 4 albums the way I printed!). Our fridge died - we think - long story - repair guy didn't even look at it, said "can't be fixed", charged us $89 and left. So we're still investigating. The freezer is still fine, and the repair guy claimed it was a coolant leak, but I'm not convinced the freezer could keep working if that were the case! It is 19 years old. But you will NEVER guess the lowest price on a fridge to fit this space. It's a built in, 42". Cheapest fridge - $10,500. Please, feel slightly nauseated with me. I scored free theatre tickets for Friday ("Kiss me Kate"), but that means I won't be able to crop with you guys and cry about my fridge!!!

kitbop when our fridge stopped cooling earlier this year but the freezer was still cold it was the damper that needed replacing - I think we paid less than $300 for parts and labour - I’m not 100% clear but I think it’s the part that opens and closes between the fridge and freezer to control the flow of cold air into the fridge I hope it’s something simple like that for you. I can’t believe that repairman 😮

kitbop that fridge price is crazy! Is it an extra large fridge/freezer? I was pricing out upright freezers and saw the prices for fridges as well and it looked like you could get a good one for under $2000. Many were closer to $1500.

looked like you could get a good one for under $2000. Many were closer to $1500. Yup - because it's wider and a "built in", the coils/motor are on top, and it's more like buying a restaurant fridge than a home fridge. I was absolutely shocked. 10,500 is the cheapest. There aren't a lot of choices, but the next one is 13,000... crazy, right?

Seems like it would be more cost effective to get a "normal" frig and build shelves or something to fill the gap. GOOD GRIEF - $10,000 Can you find a different repair guy? HOLY CRACKERS !!! kitbop

Happy Birthday, Linda. Do you have plans to celebrate? Not much going on around here. Dh waffles between doing too much and then feeling tired and grumpy. On Tuesday, I bullied the local gp into renewing his opiod pain meds. At first I was told "She needs to see him first, but the first available appointment is September 9th". So I pointed out this is not pain control for post surgery, it is for his on going hip pain, and she has ALREADY seen the xrays of his hip. Didn't have much hope that would work, but yesterday there was a call from the pharmacy that there was a prescription to pick up. His mood is not much better this morning, but he did sleep most of the night, so hopefully things will get better. Today I am meeting a friend for coffee in town. The local Historical Society is looking for pioneer family stories, and I am taking in the book my brother researched for our reunion back in 2006. They will be scanning some of it into their online site. Dd &/or hubby will be dropping in tonight to drop off their dogs. They plan to do back to school shopping in the city Friday before dropping dgs off for a long weekend camping trip with his former day care family. Dd & hubby will be back Friday evening. Not sure when the dogs are going home. Haven't scrapped a thing since last Tuesday. My counter is clear and I have a list of pages I could do with the photos I have, but have not had a stretch of uninterrupted time to get going on anything.

kitbop , I am sorry about your fridge. My guess is that the repairman didn't want to bother! I know they do eventually break down, but a good mechanic can often fix them up much cheaper. When ours went out, we also looked at a new one, but called an old friend and he was able to fix it for $200. I might be tempted to get the smaller (less expensive) fridge and add cupboards next to it as gramma suggested. Good luck on your decision making. We will miss you on the crop. grammadee , have fun dog sitting. Lunch with a friend sounds wonderful. I hope DGS has a great time with his former day care family. How's the garden growing? Your big zucchini made me laugh. Wish I had one to make zucchini bread. I need to make cookies today, but don't know if I have the stamina to stand and do it. kellyr21 , do you have plans for the long weekend? I hope your weather is nice right now. I love the short time between summer and fall. I am a bit sad about missing my 60th class reunion this weekend, but know the trip would be too hard. We will get to see and hold tiny Miss Millie over the long weekend, so that makes it all worth staying home. My classmate told me to make a list of who I want to see at the reunion and he will hook us up on facetime. I am posting the last 2 layouts I made and the Sheetload cards for this month. I haven't been scrapping a lot, just haven't posted much. The black on the first one is actually shiny gold that my scanner doesn't like. May All Your Dreams Come True Carbon Copy August 2024 Sheetload of cards

Thanks grammadee - no big plans. DD17 baked a cake yesterday and will make frosting tonight for it and there's ice cream. We're attending a zoning board meeting this evening and whether we eat my planned menu (German Potato salad) or eat out will depend a bit on how long that goes on. Good job getting your dh the pain meds he needs. Hopefully he can find that happy medium between rest and work. Sounds like you have a busy end to your week. nylene - love your layouts! Those girls are adorable! cards look great also.

Happy Thursday! We have cooled down some and I am loving it. Hope you all are having a nice day. linda Happy Birthday!!!! I hope you have a enjoyable day! Flowers by Kelly Roberts, on Flickr nylene - Sorry you will miss your reunion but that will be nice if you can facetime with some of your pals. Thank goodness you these modern camera phones and computers. Your cards and layouts are so amazing! I'll have to go the the gallery and leave you some praise. Yeah, no big plans for the weekend but hope to find some fun things to do. kitbop - Oh, you are going to a show! How fun and I you tell us about the show and your time at the theater. Waving hi to all you sweet peas. Have a good day!

We decided to ask another person to take a look, and he says it's the air pump that moves air between the fridge and freezer, has ordered a new part for tomorrow and total repair should be less than $400. Everyone, please think good thoughts that it works because that number is so much more comfortable. We will be contacting the other repair company and *telling* them we want our $89 back as that guy didn't truly look at the fridge, assumed it was a refrigerant leak, and told us to buy a new one. Sounds like a scam to me! Google reviews, watch me come. grammadee - your kids are so lucky to have you! It would be so nice to have a place to park dogs Glad DH got his pain pills...but certainly sounds like he needs to bite the bullet and get a new hip. Promise him from me that it's not that bad, and 100% worth it. My BFFs dad just got his 2nd hip and he's 84. Linda - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hee hee, you are older than me for a few months now. Does your german potato salad use onions wilted in salt water? I have an old Mennonite recipe that is my absolute fave and uses that technique to take the sharpness out. DS's birthday is Saturday. I'll be baking a cake and he's asked for Shepherds pie. He's turning - gulp - 26. Unsure how that is possible. kellyr21 - The best part of the show is that the tickets were free! DD and I are *also* going to "My fair lady" on Saturday, and those were NOT free (I used her student discount to make it almost affordable) but as a kid my Mom was in a local production of it, and I listened to the broadway soundtrack so much that I know it by heart, and I can't wait for DD to see it with me nylene - wonderful pages! I really love what you ended up doing with the princess pictures.

He made a throw away comment yesterday about he should "just get that hip surgery and then end up in a wheelchair the rest of my life". Somehow I don't think he gets that the main goal of the surgery is to PREVENT that...

grammadee - we see people with new hips who can go home the SAME DAY as their surgery, up walking (with a walker for 4 weeks), climbing stairs. It's life changing, and if he has been living with this much pain, the surgery will probably cause an equal amount of pain (in a different location/different reason) which will go. away. and leave him with a flexible. painfree. hip. His current pain is only going to get worse I so hope you can convince him.

Happy Birthday Linda !! I hope you’ve had a lovely day! nylene - wonderful pages and cards! I love the cupboard one, that’s such a cute idea! Sorry you will miss your reunion this weekend. grammadee - hope your DH is getting some pain relief and feeling better. My FIL needs a hip replacement too, but they need to repair a leaking heart valve before they will do the hip surgery. He’s actually having that done tomorrow morning. kitbop - good news about the fridge repair! Fingers crossed that it works out and you can get your money back from the other guy. Our washer broke in the spring and we called a repair company to come look at it because it was only 8 years old. They charged us $120 just to look at it and then said the part we needed would be $600. So we just bought a new one, but it felt like we just wasted the $120.

Happy Birthday Linda!! I hope it was a great day for you. kellyr21- I love your paintings and can't wait to see what you share next. I'm so ready for the season to start. I just can't get into preseason at all lol. And yes, I love that it means it's fall too LOL! Holy Wow @kibop! That's insane! And what a good outcome! Whew! I can't even imagine that much money for a fridge. Have fun Friday! You'll be missed! nylene I'm sorry you are going to miss the reunion, but I'm also glad you aren't driving all that way Your pages are wonderful! I love the photo arrangement on Princess in Training. Enjoy your time with the newest family member! grammadee I'm glad DH got some pain meds. I hope he will change his mind about the new hip. I hope you get some scrappy time soon! Maybe tomorrow night This week has flown by. And I keep forgetting it's a long weekend. A much needed long weekend lol DS2 came and got the rest of his stuff I was storing for him, and I decluttered some of my own things and what a difference a little more space makes! Not a lot going on other than work. A little bit of scrapping when I can. I will absolutely get at least one day of scrapping this weekend. Hope to see whoever can make it tomorrow!

Sounds like a scam to me! Google reviews, watch me come. That sounds like what was wrong with mine and I really hope the repair works for you also. And yes, definitely get your money back from the first guy. Hee hee, you are older than me for a few months now lol - Dh's birthday is in Jan and I always tease him about being old...until it starts getting close to my birthday when we become the same age again (and much more youthful, lol) Does your german potato salad use onions wilted in salt water? I have an old Mennonite recipe that is my absolute fave and uses that technique to take the sharpness out. That sounds lovely. There aren't actually any onions in mine. Potatoes, vinegar, pickle relish, a milk based sauce (or my mum used cream of crap soup), bacon, and kielbasa. I would love your recipe though. I was hoping if this surgery went well that he may consent to the hip replacement, but I won't hold my breath. He made a throw away comment yesterday about he should "just get that hip surgery and then end up in a wheelchair the rest of my life". Somehow I don't think he gets that the main goal of the surgery is to PREVENT that... prayers for him to consent - surgery and recovery is scary though so I can relate. I know there will be knee replacement surgery in my future - they've been telling me that since my late 20s - but the goal is to hold off as long as possible with PT etc...in hopes of not having to repeat it as I age. Hope to see whoever can make it tomorrow! tonight is already on my schedule. And once again, it looks like Friday is my only scrappy time Thank you all for the birthday wishes! It was a quiet birthday but I like it that way. I spent the day reading mostly. DS called in the afternoon (he's currently many time zones away) and we talked for a couple of hours. DH, DD, and I went to a zoning board meeting but they vastly underestimated the crowd and we were well over double the meeting room's legal capacity so they tabled the issue we were all there for until next Tuesday and will move the meeting to the school board auditorium which holds a bunch more people. The local TV station sent a reporter and camera-person so it even made the news. We ended up going out to Red Lobster for dinner since we were already in town and then home for cake - we were all pretty stuffed so the lovely cake DD made me was cut into very small token slices. Poor DD looked like death warmed over by the time we were done with cake and ended up staying home today. She had seemed fine earlier so whatever she's down with hit her hard and fast.

Linda, is DD feeling any better this morning? I hope she is not under the weather for this whole long weekend. Your birthday sounds nice and relaxing, except the zoning meeting. How nice that you could visit with DS even across many time zones. A mom needs to know how her kids are doing, even if they are far away and grown. kitbop, I am glad you had someone else look at your fridge. I would definitely contest what the first guy charged you and I would leave a review stating what happened. What fun to see My Fair Lady on stage. What part did your mother have in the production? beachy, are you back into the swing of things since your vacation with the grands. Seems like I always need a vacation from the vacation! I forgot where you went with them. I'm sure they enjoyed being with you. I hope you took photos to scrap. grammadee, I'm glad that the pills are helping DH with the pain. I wish he would agree to a hip replacement. My friend said her hip replacement was "a walk in the park" compared to her knee replacements. She is doing very well. I do understand his desire to not have surgery...I'm there with him...but sometimes it has to be done. kellyr21, I hope you and DH find a fun little getaway spot for the long weekend. How nice to be close to the ocean. How's your new painting going? Did you say it's a big one? joyfulnana, I'm sure it feels good to get kids' things out of your house. I still have things of Anj that she has no way to take to CA. Someday she will have to give them up or find a way to get them there. Has your DS2 found a new place to live and is getting settled? I'm hoping to clean my scraproom up enough to find a spot to work tonight. Why do I make such a mess when I scrap? justjac, did you start school last week or do your start this week. When is Canada's long weekend? I know it's close to our Labor Day, but never remember when. I can't believe that the summer will be officially over after tomorrow. Where did August go?

nylene - she stayed home from school despite telling me she absolutely had to go. She got up and decided that no, no she couldn't and went back to bed. She has slept all morning - just got up (it's almost 2pm) and had me make scrambled eggs and toast soldiers. I suspect she'll be headed back to bed. I've added covid test to my shopping list for tomorrow I'm hoping that's not what she has but... DS is really good about reaching out even when he's on the other side of the world. He's a bit bored where he is - not much to do. DD24 called today and we chatted for a while also. We all text daily but it's always nice to hear their voices.
