I find this whole thing incredible to watch. It's a like a whole "what not to do when you're a new business owner" situation.
She's got questionable customer service (some swear by it, some don't), horrible social marketing skills, and a severe case of paranoia.
What I think is completely humorous is that fact that when she closed it, there were 1500 members in her FB group. The MistiFans page got 1100 in no time. The Stamping Enablers group is almost to 1000 already (since Monday!!).
SCS ... the last time I looked was hovering around 500 members and little to no activity.
Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.
Well done Iliana.
And I agree, there will be knock offs before you know it. Much more reasonably priced!

SCS has over 400K members. Not all are active (it says 38K active but I don't know what "active" means), but usually there's over a thousand active members when I've looked. However, I don't know how many actually look at the My Sweet Petunia forum. I just looked and it said 193 active in that forum. Obviously it varies depending on the time of day.
She made some big mistakes but so did PTI and they're still in business. A lot of people have no idea of the CS issues though, and a lot forgive and forget. I don't shop with PTI anymore, and if my MISTI broke I doubt I'd buy another one from MSP. I'm one to hold a grudge.

There is the Stampressive dating to 2011. MISTI is different, but I don't know if it is different enough to get a patent. Patent pending is not patented. The patent process takes from 3 or 4 months to years depending on a lot of things. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcPnEjgAT_g

I've been a member of SCS for years and having a MISTI has not changed my SCS viewing habits. I just go to the same forums I always have and I'm not very active there. I'm much more active here and on the stamping Facebook group I actually don't like places that moderate too much, I want to hear the good and the bad about things so I can make decisions based on both

I'm glad you didn't give in and remove the photo, Don. She doesn't have the right to force people to remove their photos and/or videos on a patent pending tool, and it's time she got the news. Regretfully, I bought one and now I wish I had just made one myself. That still may happen, and I will sell this one at some point. As was mentioned in some of the posts, the Scor-Pal came out, then Martha came out with one similar, but different. I'm sure Martha has a team of attorneys at her disposal to keep her out of any more trouble, so why does this woman think she can do any better? It reminds me of a line in True Grit - I forget the girl's name in the film, but she's always threatening everyone with her lawyer, J. Noble Dackett (Daggett?). I think it was John Wayne that replied, and I'm paraphrasing here, - "I don't know who this J. Noble Dackett is, but you draw him like a gun!" :-)

I have the original but I also may have a new homemade one however, I'm hesitant to share it because I don't want the hassle of MORE legal threats. Have to think on this one!

I think it is really sad that people who make their own versions of things can't post pictures of them on friendly forums like this one. I really like seeing how truly creative people can be, but with all these ridiculous legal threats, I get your reluctance. The MISTI creator has put a really bad taste in the mouths of a lot of people, me included, and I can seriously HARDY WAIT to see some big company knock off her priceless MISTI and mass produce it!!

I got my hand slapped over at SCS back when there was a small uproar over Jen McGuire listing it as one of her favorite items of 2014 and it took a member over there flat out asking if Jen had purchased hers or was it given to her to get Jen & Iliana to admit that Jen received hers free. There are rules about that stuff - if you are reviewing something, the FCC says you have to disclose whether you received it free or paid for it yourself. I'm so spacey that I didn't notice that the SCS member was banned for it. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it makes me sad. It seems to me that the community manager over at SCS is great good buddies with Jen and Iliana and didn't like her friends being picked on and BOOM!
Back in the day, a perfectly nice lady and her daughter developed a special hanger to turn a regular strand of Christmas lights into icicle-style lights. She got her patent, thought she'd make buckets of money, and after attending a trade show, started seeing light manufacturers making the icicle-type, once they saw that there was interest in that style. Rendered her hanger useless, and she couldn't afford the legal fees to go after them for patent infringement anyway (although she probably wouldn't have won, since her invention wasn't a style of light, it was a hanger). Point is, unless MISTI's lawyer is sending out cease and desist letters for free and is willing to handle any escalation of the letters for free, her threats of legal action are pretty empty. I can't help but wonder if her lawyer is encouraging her because of the money the law firm is making off of this?

I got a warning and they deleted my posts, but that was the extent of it. I guess I didn't think that posting that you trusted reviews from users who paid for a tool more than reviews from people who got it free was "making a member the subject of a negative post". Go figure.

Sadly, SCS has gotten ridiculous. I sent an e-mail to Internet Brands, the owner of SCS, to tell them that the site is turning into a clique of mean girls and the administrator seems out of control. I indicated that I do not feel the atmosphere there conducive of a community and I find I do not spend as much time there as I used to. In addition, I let them know that I am not renewing my fan-club membership when it expires. I hope others who feel similar will do likewise.

I find myself on Facebook a lot more than I use to be I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say, but I personally think that she made a huge mistake taking her group to SCS. But, I'm sure there was something in it for her to do so. It seems like a "cutting your nose off to spite your face" situation to me though. The new Stamping Enablers group on FB that has formed out of all of this is really great!
