I just read a Fox News story that the police investigation revealed there was an additional stop which was previously not reported and that the case is being referred to the State's attorney office. Also, the Washington Post broke a story - A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to a police document obtained by The Washington Post. Edited to add Link to full article Link to full Washington Post Article UPDATE 5/1 - Breaking news - The medical examiner has ruled probable cause for charges. All officers charged. The charges against the officers include second-degree murder, manslaughter, assault and misconduct in office, among others.

I'm not really sure how the other prisoner could know anything that Mr. Gray was doing when they were separated by a metal wall and Mr. Gray's larynx was crushed so he probably couldn't make much sound. It sounds like police propaganda to me. JMHO.

If I heard repetitive banging, I also would assume prisoner was trying to injure himself. He should have been busy gasping for air.

Listen, I'm really going to have a hard time believing what the Baltimore police have to say, AND the family of the young man who died. Both have a vested interest in making themselves look innocent. Can't we take a lesson from Michael Brown and wait until a non-related 3rd party(ies) have to say about what happened?
All this is reactionary - just like Brown. Everyone is letting the MEDIA decide how they are to feel. The thing is, the media has a vested interest too, it's called ratings. Can't have ratings when everyone is peaceful.

I believe that video from a private citizen (security camera or cell phone, not known) has emerged.
It is my understanding the DOJ is also doing an independent investigation.

Bears repeating over and over and over. I'm sick to death of the media shaping how stories are reported and, in turn, how people react and form opinions based on reports that might or might not be true.

For those of us sitting in our comfortable middle class and above communities, where we actually believe we could call law enforcement to help us, sure.
There are many others whose reactions come from their life experiences, not the media narratives.

In back to *pea*ality's defense, the story has been reported by WaPo as well as being all over the local DC news stations today. She didn't just make it up. Now, that being said, I'm not sure how valid the claim is and what bearing it actually has on what happened to FG.

Now, that being said, I'm not sure how valid the claim is and what bearing it actually has on what happened to FG. I stated in the original post that "the Washington Post" broke a story.... I didn't think that anyone accused me of making it up but rather that the police department did. In posting what I did I wasn't making a declarative statement about knowing what happened just what was being reported. I think the more credible information was the time line omitted an additional stop and that there is a video.

Diane Perhaps he was hanging around back there trying to get their attention so that they would stop to check him out and notice that he was in need of medical attention.

There are many others whose reactions come from their life experiences, not the media narratives. It also includes those that are minorities themselves, or have lived in public housing, or have worked with low income or those that are associated with law enforcement and corrections I'm very fortunate to have had many more life experiences getting to my current middle class status that lets me see things with very wide open eyes.

Pretty interesting breakdown. 2 minute drive to police station from where he was arrested. Wonder what took them so long to get to the police station. Breakdown of Freddie Gray
