I just looked it up and it was horrible. Horrendous and disgusting. Did you read some of the more current news articles? That's where it gets jaw dropping astounding. They had a couple of opportunities to make some atonement and it's still met with hostility to this day! There's a mural in the courthouse an artist painted in 1970 with that hanging tree depicted. But many believe that boy got what was coming to him. It's so much easier for people to think that someone who was innocent deserved what happened to them than it is to understand how unfair and horrific we humans can be to each other. I see it here all the time. It's easier to believe that Mr. Gray deserved what he got than to admit that some police are bigger criminals than the people they swore to protect.
Thanks for posting this.

I think its difficult for some people to view black men as human beings. In the same vein that slavemasters likened them to livestock. That is why it's easy to read about a black man being killed and then setting out to make him culpable in his own death. I am glad charges are being brought against the real criminals in this case. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Ui47LhQw2NqWVWNNqtfM.jpg) Oh please. There are so many things I could say, but the first part of your post is so over the top if I roll my eyes any farther back, I really will have eyes in the back of my head. Sorry you were not able to formulate your thoughts enough to share here. I also hope your eyes recover. Have an awesome day!

I watched the press conference with the States Attorney. I am positively shocked and sickened by the timeline she laid out. The indifference to Mr. Grey's well being while in custody is absolutely appalling. It is unfathomable to me to treat someone so callously while they are in your charge. I just don't understand it. It will be interesting to see how the trial goes and how the reaction will unfold. I was very impressed by how she handled the information and the press. [b I completely agree. I predict 5/6 charged will be offered deals to turn evidence against the one charged with murder.

Spoken by someone who not only doesn't give a damn but cannot see reality if it doesn't happen to them. Yeah, yeah, you volunteer, blah blah blah, latino boyfriend, blah blah blah. The bottom line? You're a white man and you have no idea what black men go through in this country. Your rudeness and dismissiveness of the truth shows that you're not a compassionate person, either.

You do realize that there has been no violence by protestors since Monday, right? You seem oddly concerned with the riot but not at all concerned with the fact that Freddie Gray was killed while in police custody.
You're missing the big picture by obsessing over some people who rioted instead of being upset that someone was killed in police custody. I don't get you.
Surprisingly I can be upset by both. Freddie's death was tragic, and until today, was not labeled murder. Now it is, and rightfully so, it will be dealt with by our court system. What you seem to be missing is the fact that the effects of the rioting and destruction in Baltimore is much more far reaching and long lasting for a much larger group of people. Some have lost everything in the destruction of their business. And the rioters my have almost wiped out potentially crucial evidence because they were stupid thugs. Your fake outrage is nauseating. Now I'm the one rolling my eyes.

JUST STOP!
MY jaw is on the floor at what I'm reading about myself here. The logical part of me knows that some people here are dismissing what was actually said, because it doesn't align with how they've already made up their mind. But my heart is utterly destroyed.
Let me say right off the bat, I am glad that the officers are being charged since the evidence is showing they were responsible.
But to take my response of what the other prisoner was thinking in answering the question of how he could know what the other prisoner was doing if he couldn't see him, to take that as license to say that I don't view black men as human, to liken me to a slave owner, to say that I don't care if an innocent black man is shot in the back, or that I'm callous and inhumane, is shocking and sickening.
My response was based on the other prisoner's statement and what I've learned from the officers being interviewed in recent days on the behavior of people taken into custody and the attempts at lawsuits.
To then take my support of gay rights while also supporting Christian rights as a reason to liken me to a skinhead or KKK member is beyond the pale.
To ignore all the times I've said it sure does look like the cops are at fault here and that we don't have all the facts yet in favor of saying I'm blaming the victim and painting me as an inhumane racist human being, defies logic. But too often facts don't matter when they don't support your conclusion to pile on.
I've been respectful when I disagree with something and I'm utterly devastated and destroyed at how I'm being painted simply because I responded to a question of the other prisoner's thought process based on what I've learned recently.

No one here will ever admit to feeling that way but I know for sure that you are 100% right. I was trying to say this on the " gay rights thread about the cake" people hide what they are and if forced to change to save their business or livelihood, they will pretend and lie! I would rather you be like the obvious skinhead or kkk member and just come out and say what you really think instead of being PC and stating statistic's and facts to try and prove what you want to believe anyway... When things like this happen your comments show who you are... I feel the same way. All this PC crap has just driven racism underground so people are nice to your face and spout off behind your back. I would rather it be in my face, that way I know who to avoid.

My statements was about how people hide what they are ... If it didn't apply to you than I wasn't talking about you. But I find it funny how it's the same ones who ways make negative or condescending comments on any topic where race comes into it. My point was you can't force people to change what's in thier hearts. Many are racist and hate gays but instead of being open about it they try to justify there feeling while trying to stay PC.

I'm not sure why you are taking what I've said so personally but I am sure being introspective is difficult. What you do once you are faced with things you don't like or had not recognized about yourself is really the most important thing. I don't like to compare atrocities but I think there are instances where humanity has seen the error in some of those atrocities...again don't want to compare atrocities or introduce another element you can zero in on to take the focus off the actual issue at hand...but the victims in those instances have posthumously been "humanized". Black men arent given that same benefit. Instead they get put on trial before their bodies even hit the grave which you effectively did when you said Gray must have injured himself in hopes of some huge settlement.

Not sure if they'll be able to prove the second degree depraved heart - we'll have to wait for the evidence. I think vehicular manslaughter will be easier. The deliberately extended, unrestrained drive is going to be hard to refute.

As horrible as the Waco mob lynching was, it is not rare. Nina Simone, the famous jazz singer, even has a song about lynchings where she sings about the weird fruit on Southern trees, black men lynched and kept in the trees as a warning to others.
White/Black relations in the South aren't as great as people want to believe. I thought what Annabella said about Freddie Gray being pulled over being a race issue was talking about how the police saw him. A black man known to the police was being harassed for being black in public.
I also think people are getting thorax confused with larynx. Thorax is the chest. Broken ribs can puncture the lungs and cause a person to suffocate. I had half of my right lung collapse because of damage to my diaphragm when I first had the bile leak after gallbladder surgery. I also had to be intubated after I breathed in harsh cleaning products. I could only whisper and couldn't control my body's muscle spasms. I was given a sedative and pain meds because collapsed lungs hurt horribly.
Your body thrashes around and goes into fight of flight trying to survive. What we see on TV where someone lies quietly while someone else strangles or smothers them isn't reality.
I do know that a lot of arrestees do try to hurt themselves in patrol cars or try to damage equipment, spit on the cops, whatever. Many claim that they are hurt so they have to go to the hospital. They will admit they do that just to prolong going to jail.
That still doesn't excuse bad behaviour from LEOs. Slinging people around in the back of the wagons is horrible. Their tactics are well known.
Even the man in SC who was viciously gunned down by the police officer was criticised for running. He was pulled over by a police officer that wanted to kill him. How do we know that the police officer didn't tell the man that he was going to die. It could have been obvious by the look on the cop's face. Would you stay in your car and let someone shoot you, or would you try to make a run for it?
There's no excuses for rioting. There's no excuses for the way that African Americans are being treated in this country.
I'm also the daughter of a LEO and have many LEOs in my family and as friends. There are some really bad people that become LEOs or military because they get off on the control and authority. They should be given severe punishments because they abuse power.
I just watched an episode of one of those court shows, Judge Madea? A blind 20something black man was suing a "security" guard because the guard threw him to the ground, broke his glasses, and detained him when he wasn't doing anything but waiting outside a restaurant for his ride.
The guard kept saying he was in the right. He didn't notice the huge red and yellow cane, and thought the guy was up to no good because he had on "sunglasses" at night and a hoodie.
At no time did the security guard tell the man who he was. The guard couldn't believe that someone wouldn't just assume the position against a wall and be searched by some random guy. "But I was wearing my uniform"
There's a huge, valid reason why minorities fear cops. I don't blame them. I've seen it myself.

"Temper tantrum"!? "Lawsuit payout"!? I'm trying to imagine a standard of human decency which would allow for free-wheeling speculation in accordance with the above hypothetical explanations. My bad. Can't quite reconcile basic human decency with the above hypotheses. Call it a failure of imagination. Here's another hypothetical thought experiment: what if Freddie Gray was writhing around in pain from a previously (but very recently) inflicted injury, and then he slammed hard into the back of the van because he was not belted in (which the B'more police concede he should have been), and the violence of the impact was enough to break his neck? Of course, I don't know what exactly happened. But neither do you. Why the presumptive hostility toward Freddie Gray, a 25-year old man who should NOT have died in police custody, who should still be alive? It was a flow of discussion starting with the other prisoner saying that it sounded like Freddie was trying to hurt himself, then onto someone's question of how would the other prisoner know if he couldn't see him, to the thought that if you, yourself are not being thrown about the van, then the other guy must be doing it to himself. My response stemmed from his thought that "he was trying to hurt himself". I didn't just pull it out of thin air. Your hypothetical could absolutely be the case and actually went through my mind when I first heard of the other prisoners statement, but again my response was in response to the thought process of the other criminal, who had no idea that Freddie had recent surgery or any injuries. I also just yesterday listened to police officer talk about how people taken into custody damage their computers and equipment and windshields by kicking and thrashing so often, and they split their heads open by smashing them against the window so often that nylon cord (or something) has become standard issue to hog tie out of control prisoners. I have always been the one who says we don't know all the facts. I was only responding to a question about the thought process of the other prisoner and it had nothing to do with my human deceny. Exactly this!

I'm not saying it happened in this case, but I have seen the video where this did happen in Oregon recently. Man hurts self in cell

Instead, the lie was caught on video and he was slapped with more charges and kept in jail for a month. The Clear Lake, Calif., man, in custody during a sex abuse investigation, claimed Lane County Sheriff’s Office detectives battered him during an interview, the Oregonian reported. He told cops he wanted to press charges and wrote down a signed statement detailing the “beating.” "When he learned that the incident was caught on camera, he admitted that he thought making the claim would get him released," department spokeswoman Sgt. At least seven more times, with several punches each, Tomaszewski assaults his own mug, his face becoming increasingly red as he inflicts pain on himself for the four minutes. The bizarre scene is reminiscent of a scene from 1999 flick “Fight Club,” in which actor Edward Norton savagely beats himself in front of his boss and blames the vicious assault on his employer in a blackmail attempt. If Gray had an injury he could walk away from (both figuratively and literally) then it wouldn't be so outrageous that he caused the injuries himself. The injuries he sustained while in police custody don't align with injuries that could be self inflicted. To me it just seems like another way to place the blame on the victim instead of the actual culprits of the crime. He was a criminal, he ran, he resisted, oh then he killed himself.

I guess you don't know that this has actually happened. I'm not saying it happened in this case, but I have seen the video where this did happen in Oregon recently. Man hurts self in cell
Aleksander Robin Tomaszewski, 33, thought if he beat himself and blamed it on the Lane County Sheriff's Office, he'd wiggle his way out of trouble. Instead, the lie was caught on video and he was slapped with more charges and kept in jail for a month. A California man locked up in an Oregon jail holding cell was caught on camera punching himself in the face in a desperate attempt to blame police for his injuries and get out of trouble. Instead, 33-year-old Aleksander Robin Tomaszewski ended up with two black eyes and got slapped with charges of attempted coercion and filing a false report stemming from the Jan. 9 incident. Carrie Carver said in a written statement obtained by the newspaper. The smooth criminal is captured on camera inflicting the injuries on himself. PreviousNextLane County deputies say Aleksander R. Tomaszewski gave himself two black eyes when he was in custody in January. Tomaszewski complained he was beaten by detectives when he was in custody. But a video camera didn't capture the alleged assault. Instead, it recorded Tomaszewski punching himself in the face multiple times. Lane County deputies say Aleksander R. The four-minute clip, released Tuesday, shows Tomaszewski pacing his small cell and then begin to pound his face with his own fists as he stands with his back to the camera. He lands several blows on his eyes and forehead before again pacing. Tomaszewski pleaded guilty to both charges, was released from jail Feb. 10 and was ordered to pay a $600 fine and serve three years of probation, according to the Oregonian. I was pointing out that the scenario of someone in police custody hurting themselves has happened as marykate seems to have a hard time imagining a standard of human decency which would allow someone to think someone would do that. It is not in relation to this case at all - it's for her disbelief that it could happen. The guy in the video is white so it's not even a black thing.

In typical form for her, Gia is trying to deny racism exists and is trying to blame the victim.

One sided chart of statistics. To see the true story you would need to overlay these statistics with the percentage of crimes committed by race and the types of crimes being committed at the time of death.

OMG JONDA look they are talking about the 300 men march out working on black on black crime!! They are talking about what can be done and what's being done...wow you should join up since it's a problem near and dear to your heart!! Not sure why you would look at that as a slam. I find that news really good, and if you have a link, I'd love it so I can see when and where it is taking place. This is very hopeful steps in the right direction.

Oh I had no problems formulating my thoughts, but it honestly wouldn't have mattered because you are going to consider anyone racist who doesn't fall in line with your version of how things should be. Does racism exist, absolutely. But let's be honest, there are a lot of times where racism is cried out when it's not as well, and as a result there are moments it rings as "boy who cried wolf" moment. I have no doubt that the officers charged today will be found guilty. And if found guilty, I completely believe they should be punished. The more I read, the more I absolutely believe they are guilty. However, I don't have all the evidence, and until the jury comes back they are innocent until proven guilty.

ETA: If Jesus could see the way you act in his name he's never stop throwing up.
We will just have to agree to disagree, since I don't know you and you don't know me other than from our posts on a message board, Neither of us really "KNOW" the truth about each other, because quite honestly my impression of you is the same as yours of me. Have a good day.

Your constant denial of the way black men are treated by law enforcement in this country just compounds how closed-minded and arrogant you are.

I don't think you are racist. I love my men ethnic and spicy too. I also volunteer...you know how it is...as time permits of course. I love how you know both that the officers will be found guilty and what my reaction would have been should you have figured out exactly what you wanted to say! So all knowing
