honeypea This reminds me to go cancel my freshly started m2m sub as my $10 DK shipped earlier this week. 😊 It's a decent DK for both December Daily and January/new year, ladies. Worth a look.

Just got an email from SC about their kits:
“Dear Studio Calico Subscribers- Starting as an idea to get scrapbookers out of the aisles and inspired to create, Studio Calico has grown and evolved over our 16+ years as a memory keeping brand. Kit types have come and gone to reflect trends, your interests, and demand in the marketplace. In January 2024, we will be merging our Documenter and Traveler’s Notebook Kits into one kit type. This change lets us bring you a collection of goodies that fit a wider variety of documenting styles and gives you more flexibility to be creative with how you capture your memories. The biggest change you’ll notice is that we’re swapping out the journal cards for 6x8in papers. One side will have cut-apart journal cards - the same number of cards you’re used to seeing in our Documenter Kits! - and the opposite side will feature 6x8in designs. We’re super excited to be able to provide more versatility in the types of projects that our kits can support. Just add your photos and creativity – we’re excited to see what you can create! Our NEW Documenter Kits will continue to feature all the fun extras you love - alphabet stickers, chipboard, labels and other cool embellishments like die cuts, plastic shapes, washi tape, and puffy stickers. We’ve heard your concerns about the quality of the stamps in our kits and will be making the switch back to photopolymer stamps. To accommodate this change, the stamps will no longer be included in the kits. These 3x4in sets will be available in the add-ons each month for just $5.99 - a discount of $5 off their regular price of $10.99. If you add this stamp to your box, it will ship with your kit for no additional shipping fee! Because “Documenter” is a fitting description, we will use that name for this new kit format. Pricing will remain the same as our current Documenter subscription, starting at just $25.99 a month. If you subscribe to our Documenter Kit, you won't notice any changes to your billing or subscription info. If you currently subscribe to the Traveler’s Notebook kit, the name will change on your order confirmation to "Documenter Kit" and the price will change to the lower Documenter Kit pricing based on your current commitment level. Please reach out if you have any questions. We appreciate all your support over the years and can’t wait to see the projects you’ll make with our new kits!
- The Studio Calico Team”

I am so glad I canceled already. No stamps and now I have to cut apart my own cards? No thank you.

The biggest change you’ll notice is that we’re swapping out the journal cards for 6x8in papers. I'm a little confused by this... doesn't the Traveler's Notebook kit come with a TN? So is that still going to be included? And, if not, isn't that a pretty big change worth noting? I don't currently subscribe to SC, but I pick up kits here and there. As someone who doesn't work in TNs that often, if one was included I would definitely not want the kit. I personally prefer cards to cut apart sheets, but understand the switch and they are definitely not the first brand to do this. I also would like getting 6x8 papers. This change alone wouldn't prevent me from purchasing kits if I like the designs.

Not a big hit for DK, but I would think the TN people will be unhappy. I was bracing for changes, because it seemed likely. I think these adjustments are fine for my needs. I’m afraid for all these paper businesses hanging in there.

Yup, it was a good decision to cancel my kit! I have no desire to cut apart my cards and have to pay extra for stamps.

So I guess the cut apart cards are going to be paper weight instead of the thicker weight? Thats no good. And how many papers, exactly, in each kit?

I for one was always confused about the two kits having pretty much exactly the same items in them so for this reason I can understand cutting them back to just one kit. I imagine they’ll be similar to the recent “me, myself and I” kit from heba on the site with papers you cut apart yourself. What frustrates me is that I have just decided to start scrapping tn sized for certain projects so now I’ll have to cut down my own papers…. Good to get rid of some stash but annoying as I’m going to spend a lot of time resizing paper. Glad I stocked up on tns in the recent sale.

So, after Ali moves away from the 6x8 cut-apart sheets after general uproar and dislike, SC goes for them. Good thinking, Inked. 🤪

Well, I think this seals the deal on my Project Life run, after 2024 I'm calling it quits. I skipped PL in 2023, but saved all my SC kits for 2024. I have no desire to cut apart cards.

So I guess the cut apart cards are going to be paper weight instead of the thicker weight? Thats no good. And how many papers, exactly, in each kit? It says it’ll be the same number of cards as before. When they’ve done paper kits before (and like the Halloween and Christmas kits), it’s a heavy paper weight. I don’t mind that at all. Sometimes I use pattern paper cutaparts, and the lighter stock is just fine. I think I’d pick thinner over heavier, if I had a choice. I’ve had some pocket cards so thick they felt like cardboard (mostly from Ali), and I really dislike those. I am not a steady subscriber, I just pick up kits here and there. I do t think this will change my buying habits much, although I’m eager to do a lot of stash busting in general anyway. My biggest concern is personally how I’ll store the kits so they’re accessible and not forgettable. I burn through SC kits the best, and I think it has a lot to do with how my space is arranged and they are so easy for me to get to and find. Some of my other “categories” feel less accessiBle.

I was tempted to sub to the TN sub for a bit this year, then saw the announcement. Glad I waited. Just watched Heba's video working with it. I liked some of the prints, but holy hecking scrapbook fairies!!! What a PITA to work with! Having to decide which patterns you prefer, cutting them up (which, I NEVER get clean!), and having to find a TN notebook to use with it....
None of this is pleasing to me 😵💫

It doesn’t look like the kit will have any sort of monthly recurring title element. Granted, last year’s sticker sheet was completely trash (thin shitty dollar store quality), this seems like a super dumb move for them. When they used to have a good month title it was an incentive to not miss them.

IMHO the value of the PL kit is just not there, even with a year subscription.

IMHO the value of the PL kit is just not there, even with a year subscription. Sadly, I agree. I feel this way about most sub kits. I do like the January DK, but I’ll wait to get it on a sale or something. I think I have only bought one SC kit full price in the last year. I have to love it AND feel a time-sensitive urgency in order to do it.

And you can buy the paper/cards at 10$ solo, if you wish to try them out. Maybe I will 😀

Having watched heba struggle using the new sc kit, versus seeing her absolute delight with the cocoa daisy tn kit she received, I wouldn’t be surprised if she dropped her studio calico dt commitment…except that sc stocks her me, myself and I line… probably the only reason she’d stay I reckon!

I just received my first of the new kits. I will say, the paper thickness and print quality feels really good. It's almost as thick as Pinkfresh papers in my mind. I'm a Traveler's Notebook girly, and while I appreciate the 6x8 sides that I can cut down, not every pattern seems to take into account the appropriate dimensions. For example, one page reads in large font "THE NEW YEAR IS HERE" - when you cut this down to fit into a typical TN size, the E of HERE is cut off. There's a few pages where this is the case, lowering the overall value of this kit for me.
Overall I'm going to cancel and look to pick these up on sales, as for me I'm not able to justify the ~$30 price point.

Well damn guess I won't be considering resubscribing! I don't want to have to cut my own cards out, thats a big enough deterrent for me.
I need to find a new card dealer.

Just received the me myself and I kit. Silly me, I clicked on the kit without reading any of the detail (I enjoy Heba's worl and thought I'd give this project a try).
The cut apart pages / cards are a complete pain in the ass. The cards are now all different sizes by a few mm ... basically because I can't line up to save myself and there's always a smidge of the other card I then have to trim off. I do this with photos as well 🤣
So glad I'm not into the sub as this inaccurate cutting would drive me 8nsane month after month!!
Definitely avoid purchasing if you prefer the uniform and precise trimming of your cards 😵💫

Definitely avoid purchasing if you prefer the uniform and precise trimming of your cards 😵💫 One of my crafty friends said the same thing, they like the kit but the cards and having to cut apart things for the cost of the kit is frustrating. I'm holding out for the digital kit and waiting for a digital sale to buy it, then at least I know I have to cut it out myself.

The stamp sale looked good but of course, their site turned into a slow mess so I abandoned ship on my cart. You'd think by now they'd know how to deal with high volume.

I need an album and some page protectors. I'm trying to decide if I should go with the free shipping sale or wait for something else.
I'd like to pick up some older kits that have been marked down but still seem a bit steep.
Decisions decisions.

Id buy now --- sure you might get the older kits a bit cheaper but then shipping will be jacked up.
