We are taking our first family vacation in 8 years. We are taking the kids on their first cruise. It's sort of a big milestone trip. Dh turns 50, I turn 40, ds turns 14 and going into high school, we celebrated 15 years married in April (20 together) and dd is turning 12 (not a big one but still). In fact, dh and ds share a bday and their bday is the 2nd day of the cruise. Mine is 2 weeks later and then ds' is 2 weeks after mine. We leave in T minus 15 days and I can't wait! Ds has football practice all summer, so we are limited to anything else. We'll do some lake trips, visit six flags, etc. But the cruise is our big plans. This is a huge vacation & a time to build many memories. Where are you cruising to? Have fun!

I am going to visit my brother in Washington (state). He is in his mid 70's and I realized he wouldn't be around forever. This will be my 3rd trip in as many years. i am also planning for cataract surgery in June. I know you guys are jealous. Family is so important. I live a distance away from my brother. He is having some health issues & I was able to go see him & help him for a few days while he had surgery & afterwards. Not jealous about your cataract surgery. Take care & stay well.

Dd14 is currently away on a team-building outward bound trip in Wales. In July, after ds18 comes back from his expedition to Kenya (!) we are all driving down to Rome over the course of a couple of days (via Reims & Pisa amongst other places) to go on our 11 night Eastern Mediterranean cruise (Sicily, 4 Greek ports, Turkey & Pompeii) before driving home again via Monaco & other stops. We have a couple of little trips planned at home too, involving shows & concerts. Longer wait for us, term doesn't end until July 22. We have a week's break coming up in a fortnight though & we're heading to Wales (lucky dd!) to do this www.zipworld.co.uk/adventure/detail/fforest-zip-safari

We will be spending a week in Maryland with my husband's family in June or July. We'll rent a big house at Deep Creek Lake. We've done this the past few summers and have had great times. And my husband and I would like to take a long weekend together, maybe run up to Washington DC before it gets hellishly hot. And we're hoping to host my nephew here for at least a few days this summer--he is graduating high school, and thinks he would like to major in mechanical engineering this fall. My husband is a mechanical engineer, and we think Tanner should come down and shadow him at work for a few days, see if he thinks that's what he really wants to do. I'd also love to have my nieces here for a few days, too. It's hard to plan around all their activities, but it's so fun when they're here. I have never been to Maryland but have been told about the wonderful beaches there. You & your dh are a great aunt & uncle for spending & investing in the lives of your nieces & nephews. I am sure that they appreciate the time & effort that you invest in their lives. Washington DC can be brutal (weather wise) as can the traffic. Have fun!

Dh and I have no summer vacation plans. I've only scheduled one day off for the summer. In September I'm going to Florida alone to visit my daughter and granddaughter. We have big plans for 2017 so we're saving money and my vacation time for that. What are the BIG PLANS for 2017? Your visit to your granddaughter & daughter will be so much fun. We're hoping to go on an Alaskan cruise with my sister and brother-in-law. We're on the east coast so I'm hoping for some time in Seattle or Vancouver before or after the cruise.

I just got back from my annual girl's cruise and DH and I are going to DC this fall. We tend to stay local in the summer. We live in a lake community and take the boat out or go to the pool or day trip. Staying local is good, especially with a boat. Where did you go on your cruise? Enjoy your summer.

None. Haven't taken a vacation since my honeymoon in 1997 DH is sick and DS, who has autism, doesn't do well not sleeping in his own bed. My 'like' is to acknowledge your post & not your family situation. I am so sorry that you are in this situation. I don't know if your DH's illness is on-going or not but, many hugs to you. I really hope that you can enjoy the sunshine that summer brings. ( ( ( hugs) ) )

We arrive in Venice to spend 3 nights there, then we are going on a one week cruise where our ports are Kotor Montenegro, Corfu Greece, Athens Greece, Mykonos Greece, Argostoli Greece, then we go back to Venice to pick up some friend and cruise for another week and the ports are Dubrovnik Croatia, Ephesus (Kusadasi) Turkey, Santorini Greece, Katakolon Greece. After the cruises we are going to stop in Amsterdam for 3 days before we come home. You are going to many beautiful places this summer. Take along light clothing & take lots of pics. Amsterdam is a great city with so much to do. Watch out for the bikes! They go crazy fast. Go to the big bike garage. So many bikes squeezed in together.

Our family goes to NC for the weekend for my husband's family reunion, and going to the beach for 2 weeks. My 18 yr. old is almost finished her freshman year in college, and I pick her up next week! She may go to Florida to visit her former boyfriend/current good friend. The kids and I may go on a 3 day trip to visit my parents 5 hrs. away (and where my 18 yr. old goes to college). We may take my 16 yr. old's boyfriend with us. It should be fun! NC has some really nice beaches. Where does your dd go to college? Safe travels.

quiltz Yes! "A fortnight is a unit of time equal to 14 days. The word derives from the Old English: fēowertyne niht, meaning "fourteen nights." I had no clue that it wasn't in common usage in Canada!

I have a conference on Sanibel Island in June. I'm going to add a couple of days and make it a mini vacation.
We're renting a big house on a trout stream in the Smoky Mountains in July - both of our adult kids are joining us, and ds is bringing his sweet girl friend. I can't wait... A week of fly fishing, napping in a hammock by the river, horseback riding, white water rafting, hiking, and just relaxing and enjoying life!
Dh and I are planning to go to Yellowstone in September, after Labor Day, yo celebrate our anniversary.

Busy summer- Helping my dad sell, downsize and move from the home he and my mom (deceased) built and lived in for the past 44+ years, into an apartment. In reality, I'm doing 99% of the work since he winters in Florida and my brother and his family are "so busy." Besides checking on the house, I found him a nice, quiet apartment, cleaned it, scheduled movers, have started to pack, contacted a Realtor friend, and need to talk to an estate sale firm about a date. Truthfully, my dad doesn't want to come back until most of it's taken care of. We all miss mom so much. Other plans include a cousin's weekend at a lake cottage five hours north, my uncle's 80th birthday/family reunion on my dad's side, a family reunion weekend out of town on my mom's side. Dd is standing up in two girlfriend's weddings, so I am doing their calligraphy, helping with showers and attending. Cleaning & packing up a family home is bittersweet & a lot of work. ( ( (hugs) ) ). BTDT, wishing you pea e a d strength during this process. Enjoy the family reunion & the weddings!

No it isn't common where I live, near Toronto/Niagara Falls. We use days, weeks, months & years. Measure in metric with some Imperial mixed in. Use kilograms/lbs and not stones for weight.

This will be my 3rd trip in as many years. i am also planning for cataract surgery in June. I know you guys are jealous. Forgive me for the hijack - Dex, my mom had cataract surgery last year and it has made such a difference in her life. She had put hers off for much longer than she should have because of her mom's illness. She had not realized how much her range of vision had shrunk until after the surgery. Imagine her amazement when she discovered that neither my house nor hers were nearly as dark and poorly lit as she had thought! LOL Some things we wish we had known before the surgery: Lens - you can get upgraded replacement lenses. Some will give you HD vision and will never cloud over. My brother and I split the cost of Mom's surgery and neither of us were prepared to pay the cost for the highest upgrade, but we were able to do the middle upgrade. From everything I've read since, it was worth the extra money. corrective vision - my mom's surgery includes LASIK for a year to make sure her vision stays 20/20. This is great, but... We wish we had considered asking the dr to do one of her eyes for distant vision and the other for near vision. She could have done this even after the first surgery but her repaired eye drooped terribly from a bout with Bell's palsy and she didn't want to take a chance on setting the other eye to near sight and losing the ability to drive. Make a hair appointment for the week after your second surgery. Trust me on this. My mom named the old hag in her mirror Louise, and kept fussing at how old Louise looked until she finally got her hair cut and colored. She had no idea just how grey she had become. Mom's surgeries went really well, no problems at all. I hope yours go as well and you have as good at time with your new eyes as she's having. Marcy

I just came back from a trip to China to see my DD. So wonderful! I plan to pretty much stay home, live in my garden, and try to sharpen my job skills. I really hope to enter the job market in the fall.
DD will be back from China mid June, and she will be living at home until early August. She is going to her sorority's hundredth anniversary thing in Philadelphia in July.
Depending on timing and money, I may take my mom to Va to see her favorite cousin. Aunt Paula was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and she has chosen not to do chemo this time. She's the last of my mom's generation of family, so I'd love to take Mom to see her.
We have a family wedding at Jekyll in late September. We're really looking forward to it.
In October, money allowing, DH and I will take a trip to celebrate his birthday. Right now we're planning on going to NOLA, one of our favorite cities to vast and within driving distance. He's hinted at going to Austin, but that may be out of our budget for this year.
Our long term vacation plans are to go to the UK so he can see ManU play at home. He'd like to see Scotland, I'd like to see the Flower show. That's as far as we e gotten with our planning. His health is iffy, so I'd like for him to have something to look forward to.

We just got back from Spain so this summer will be mainly staycations. We have 1 week in August plus I'm taking a couple of long weekends. We'll just enjoy the pool and backyard plus go to some music festivals, plays and maybe membership to the AGO in Toronto. In October we have a week but haven't decided where to go yet - maybe a cruise.

Husband has a lot of work related travel this summer, we will tag along some if feasible. Kids and I are tagging along one trip for sure, and will do some volunteer work then as well. Older two kids have different summer sports camps the same week, (sleep away for oldest, me shuttling back and forth for middle), and they both have summer birthdays. Other than that it is stay cation this year, but we've got the back yard fixed up really nice and a pool to stay cool in, so no complaints here! Enjoy your 'tag along trip (s)'. Sport camps are great for kids & having a pool is great for relaxing. While you are at home, have a "trip around the world" type experience. Order Mexican food, suchi (?), Chinese, German, French & food from other countries to enjoy. We've already talked about everyone randomly drawing two countries for the Summer Olympics, and doing dinners and cheering them on!!
