Olan I am a middle aged white girl and a Gadsen flag in the exam room would make me uncomfortable too. Particularly if the doc couldn't give me a clear and inoffensive answer as to why it was there. I'm not a big fan of mixing politics and business, but it happens. I do, however, expect that if questions are asked, the business owner is prepared for the loss if business if I find it offensive. (Although, unlike the people in the other thread, I am not a shouter or harasser, I just won't come back.) She can barely speak above a whisper. If not for disparity in care hahah she probably would have had a selective mutism diagnosis. They said she was stupid. It was the 80's my parents were young so they just loved her. I was her voice so I knew she was a genius. She was almost eight before anyone knew the truth. I think white people like Kymberlee would have you believe black people are easily offended and look for things to get in a tizzy instead of taking a step back and acknowledging facts. BUT here is the black history fact the real truth is there are sooooooo many things!!!! We try to burn them all into our memories *no pun intended of course because I mean who knew a burning cross would take on the meaning* but what happened with racism is it became systematic a bunch of well meaning white people said be nice y'all let those people go and the rest rubbed their hands together and said slavery out Jim Crowe in. Whites Only signs removed. Did you know Ruby Bridges is still alive (your age) so that means the kids who taunted her are too....abusive white people will have you believe slavery and racism is something that happened so so so long ago and black people are whining ( leftturnonly *waves*) whilst America elected a black president I.e. are ready to play nice. TRUMP totes shattered the idea that we were progressing in that area. I think as I've aged I've become more clear on how divided this country will always be. I have absolutely zero hope and am preparing myself for what will be. No one wants to make it right. In a thread about HeLa the conversation turns to why my sister should have sucked it up and not tried to look for something to get offended about. 1950's Baltimore. 2016 Suburban Ohio. |

She and I were asking you honestly what about it offended you specifically. Did it ever occur to you we were asking to try and better understand your point of view? You then admitted you didn't even know what it was. There are so so so many instances of ugliness. You do know that right? I would lay them all out here but I think thats another tactic of abusive white people. Don't Tred on Me was me pulling from my own personal experiences to share that disparity in care exists even for women who've reached the pinnacle of education and pay good money to be seen by someone fucking qualified and competent. No politics involved. You don't get why I was offended. We all know neither my sister and I know why. Kymberlee do you believe it belonged in the waiting room? I am okay with the dialogue about the don't Tred on Me experience I didn't say I was upset I just brought up the irony. Did that upset you? Well, I step away for a few minutes and all hell breaks loose. Olan you were rude and your posts were incredibly disjointed. We went most five pages before the racist/racism accusations started. I have never interacted with you because this is usually how your threads evolve. I almost think this is how you wanted this thread to go but it took a bit more time than usual. I'm sorry your world is so miserable, but don't drag me into your drama. I agree with peano, although I don't think that you ever want to have a rational discussion about anything. Dang, you even got into a disagreement with the CDC telemarketer and then the thread went from the telemarketer to your sisters doctor who had a flag that might or might not be offensive to you in someway in which you weren't quite sure why. You wonder why some of us were confused? If you wanted to talk about disparity in health care, why didn't you just come out with it instead of acting like we are the dense ones? |

I'm not sure how you can claim that as an example of disparity in care when she was never treated, not due to the doctor's unwillingness or (perceived) racism but to her own refusal of care. Has she since gotten care elsewhere? Was her treatment ultimately disparate?

What did you make your hill to stand on here? Some of you are arguing the idea that my offense was my stupidity. So I have to assume you think the poster belongs. You think that a black person should have to go in to seek care and instead have to ask uncomfortable questions. You have to call your baby sister to get amped about something that is kinda illegal! Black people do that you know. Hear something offensive and then meet eyes with everyone in the room. Silent nod of "Yes it was fucked up" has to come from at least one elder for anyone says something so yeah please STFU about what I should be offended about. Nothing offends me if you can't already tell. I woulda been wrapped in that damn poster when he walked in the room! HA!
