Why the ever loving fuck do people have machine guns??? Cindy Because it's our 2nd amendment rights of course. And naturally those rights would be violated by laws against owning machine guns. Oh and the NRA of course keeps its eye on those rights by funneling money to our corrupt congress. Does that answer your question? There are laws prohibiting civilians from purchasing/owning machine guns. However the shooter attained or modified his weapon to allow it to fire in full auto is and will always remain illegal. My heart goes out to all injured and affected by this senseless massacre at the hands of a madman.

I woke up to this. It is just horrifying. This sounds like it was a well-thought-out plan and we have to figure out what is wrong with us as a country that we aren't taking care of our mentally ill people AND we allow them to purchase massive quantities of guns. I don't know how he was allowed to get automatic weapons, but the fact that you can (even though hard) seems unreal to me.

I don't even know what to say anymore. I have a coworker whose brother works in Las Vegas, something to do with arranging and setting up concerts at hotels. Not sure which one. I really hope he's ok.

Praying this morning. Such a horrible tragedy. It is hard not feel like we live in such a sad, sad world. Trying to find love and joy in the smallest of things.

Well someone did try to stop the mentally ill from purchasing them but unfortunately the next person in line didn't like that idea and he revoked it in February. LINK

omg. how horrifying and tragic.
although, after sandy hook, i realized it doesn't really matter. there will be no new dialogue. and in couple of months or a year... there will be another "biggest mass shooting in U.S. history".
i suppose dickhead-in-chief might make a statement. if it is logical and articulate, someone else wrote it. if it is wandering and repetitive, as though written by an over-tired first grader, then we can assume those are his own words.

Not to make it political, but he literally tweeted "warmest condolences." What in the world. Couple news sources are saying the injured # is over 400 now?

Reports here saying he shot himself and the woman they were looking for was not even in the country, he used her id it seems.
I saw a young woman interviewed who said a woman made her way to the front seats and said you are all going to die, this was about 45 mins before the shooting began, security took her and another person away.

Why the ever loving fuck do people have machine guns??? Cindy My question exactly.....and as far as I'm concerned, there is no viable answer that will ever convince me that it's a good idea that anyone ever has one.

It’s a volatile, scary situation and things get shared as fact that may not turn out to be true.

I just don't even know what to say anymore. I can no longer make sense of who and what we are as a country. We are a society that is adept at manufacturing broken people. Seems we have yet to learn that the more we make people desperate, with nothing to lose, the more we will live with violence. You would think that would be obvious, but no. Our Congress is now moving to make the rich richer and the poor and middle more desperate w/less help, lees support. In a world where they need MORE. MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE.

Oh and the NRA of course keeps its eye on those rights by funneling money to our corrupt congress. Does that answer your question? Some adults in my family go range (target) shooting. We do not have auto or semi-auto weapons. What I have noticed (this is at more than one indoor range) is the semi-automatic shooters, more often than not, have a much different attitude. Most of the time, semi-automatic shooters shoot as a couple and seem to get very excited, as in sexually excited when they are shooting. This attitute bothers us so much we pack up immediately and leave the second they pull out their gun. It is creepy to the max. Fyi-we are NOT pro auto, semi-auto weapons of any kind. When I said "a couple", I ment many different couples, not just one particular couple.

The deadliest mass shooting in US history gale w all good thoughts that your family is safe at home, as you said. Thoughts for all affected. Quoting myself to say more than TEN guns, mostly automatics, which can hold 30 rounds or use drums... evaded security by holing up in the hotel since 28th September... How on earth do you prevent this event when the shooter planned it so well? Other than removing that second amendment stuff? ETA: as I refreshed, I saw the words that this is a non-political thread have just been added. Do I (and other posters) have to remove our opposition to the gun protection laws? I will check back.

Should have been clearer re the source, the reports I listened re Paddock and the woman being out of the country was the Sheriff of Clark County speaking.

So unbelievably sad and disturbing. My heart hurts for every one involved and for us as a society. 6 people shot and killed in my city (Indianapolis) over the weekend. The world is scary. last week there was a church shooting close to Nashville that had a fatality and several injured including the pastor. It barely made the local news and hardly hit social media. A couple of days ago I searched to see what happened when the shooter went to court and their was news coverage about the lack of news coverage. The shooter was a legal resident from the Sudan.

This is the kind of BS these alt-right fools are reading. How can this thread NOT be considered political? I knew before I opened it that it would quickly become politicized.

Yeah, I deleted my post because I saw she asked for it not to be political. But I agree -- everything about this is political, so hard not to bring it up.

Months ago I had tickets for this event in my "cart" and decided I just couldn't swing it It also would have interfered with my Florida Georgia lIne show here in Denver. I was still regretting not going as I heard Buzz from Sirius radio talking about going to catch for Vegas last week. Sheer luck that my plans changed. The outdoor festival I attended in Las Vegas last year is one of my most favorite memories. I can't even begin to imagine the terror that these people experienced. This is tragic! WHY??? My hope is that mpre families receive calls form their loved ones letting them know they are safe. My brother called me first thing this morning to make sure I wasn't there, as he knows my love of country shows, and I just lost it.
I gave up the news for the past year and a half after the Florida shootings , realizing that I couldn't cope with such awful news constantly being thrown on tv and only last week started to catch glimpses of the news as I would try to catch the weather on tv. I need to go back to no tv. It is far easier on my heart.
I saw Jason Aldean here 2 weeks ago and cannot even fathom what he must be feeling knowing that his name will forever be connected to this horrific act. It makes me wonder how this will affect shows in the future. Security is pretty tight when you attend but how does one control outside elements.
Keep all the victims and their families in your thoughts today.
