Active shooter in Las Vegas. THIS IS A NON POLITICAL THREAD

Two of my roommates from college were at the concert.  Thankfully one of them just posted that they are okay.

I saw this post last night, looked online real quick, didn't see anything, so I went to bed. What truly awful news to wake up.

It seems like these lunatics are always trying to one-up each other. Sickening.

I just woke up to this news. I'm shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence.

Did he have these weapons legally?

This is just heartbreaking. I woke up early this am, picked up my phone to check the time & saw the news alert. At first, I couldn't even comprehend what I was reading, then I really didn't even want to get out of bed. What is this world coming to?

I am so sad for all the victims and their families and yet so pissef off that this keeps happening

I hope all the friends & family members of the peas in Vegas are okay. Sending lots of prayers for everyone affected..

They have not said (that I have heard, anyway).

They did say he had no criminal history and they have no evidence of any mental issues (besides him shooting people).

Edited to add: ABC just said that he had a legally obtained hunting license. But no word specifically about the weapons used.

Oh too late for that. She decided that after she posted originally. How in the world can a shooting like this NOT be politicized? Omg And I'm not deleting my post that was critical of the NRA which was posted before the OP changed her title.

Such awful news to wake up to. Sending prayers up for those involved and their family & friends.

I have no words, I'm so angry. and also heartbroken for the families of the victims.

My daughter had friends that were there but it appears that they are okay. She was going to go this year (she went last year) but the tickets sold out too fast.

There is little that is non-political about this event.  From the laws around firearms to the public funding that pays for the first responders' training and the outstanding jobs they did to prevent loss of more life, to the larger societal issues that underpin this type of shooting and how we can prevent it and even more horrific senseless loss of life in the future.

Thoughts and prayers and moments of silence are all important, but not enough, and are not going to fix this.  So unless we want more and more of this, we'd all better pay attention and take action.

All those who say "I never thought this could happen to me".  Yeah.  That's part of the problem.

We are all affected.

Honestly, no, it can't. Not in any meaningful way. Thoughts & prayers haven't worked to stop mass killings yet.
