Just curious. Arguing with a family member about Covid precautions and they aren’t worried and ONE reason is because they don’t know anyone who has had it. Neither do I, but I still take it very seriously!

I know several, 2 still hospitalized.
One died, one “ recovered” but has lasting neurological damage , a few others recovered.
People who say this is a hoax are full of shit.
And the one was passed , the one with neurological damage and the 2 in ICU are all under 40

Nope, don't know a single person who has had it. Neither does DH. DD only knows one person who had it early on. He lives in Austin but contracted it at Mardi Gras in NOLA. Between the three of us, we know a lot of people too. That said, we still limit where we go and wear masks.

I do not, but I sure in heck don't want it and am taking precautions to try an avoid it. I do believe my mom said someone from her church had it and passed.

Kind of... sibling of co-worker. No one else in the family got it as far as I know and they had a family gathering a few days before.

No, the closest connection I have with someone who recieved a diagnosis is my husband's coworker's grandfather. I know a few people who were sick earlier this year and think they might have had it, but recovered without incident and never got tested.

Only one person at DH’s work, we’ve been very fortunate. Like Gypsy, we still take all precautions.

No. Nor do I know someone who knows someone whose had it. But I still take precautions when I go out....keep my distance, wear a mask, wash my hands, etc.

Yes. A coworker tested positive a couple of weeks ago. (Which was a bit ironic because she thought she had been exposed earlier in the pandemic but nothing came of it then.) She said her main symptom was fatigue.

My friend’s grandmother had it pretty early on. She was in ICU and on a ventilator. I honestly didn’t think she was going to make it, but she did. She was the first person to be released from our local hospital’s covid ward. Up until a few weeks ago, our cases (I’m near Austin) had been pretty low. But our curve has turned into a vertical line the last few weeks.

Yes. Family friends. I also “know” (general know/small town) a handful of others. Two of them were hospitalized/ICU.

Yes, a few. Luckily all have recovered, but who knows what long-term health problems they may have.

We’ve had a friend in ICU since April. He’s in his 60s. He’s the only one we know. He was travelling by air in April.

One person - the husband of a friend. He had chronic health problems and was in the hospital for something unrelated. He was sent home after being there for months, developed symptoms the day after he got home and went right back to the hospital. He didn’t survive the week.

Yes, a friend of mine had it and has thankfully recovered but the long term side effects remain to be seen. She is a nurse and was on a non-COVID floor and still managed to contract the virus.

Yes, many. I have a lot of NYC friends who have had it, and several friends here in Seattle.
Most of the people I know are my age (40s), and everyone I actually know survived (the owner of a market here I frequent died, but that was more of a small-talk situation rather than someone I would describe as a person I actually know). It took some of them months to be functional, though.

Someone I work with but he is in a different state than me. Two other people in the office tested positive but did not have severe symptoms. The other guy said days 2 and 3 were awful. He felt a little better after those days but still very tired and weak. He took the hydrochloroquine drug and said he could feel a difference within a few hours.

Yes. Two of my DD’s best friends in their 20s who were really sick for a few weeks and fine now. My best friend in her 60s who ended up in the hospital for weeks with pneumonia that finally cleared up. My husband’s employee in his 30s who recovered. My plumbers wife died. Plus another 10 or so acquaintances and friends of friends that recovered. It’s been bad here in Massachusetts.

Yes. Ex had it (he tested positive for the antibodies but couldn’t get a test mid March when he was sick), I had the same symptoms as he shortly after his started. It took months for us to recover, and there are still lingering lung, fatigue and mental impacts now. I still haven’t regained my senses of smell/ taste. Possibly 2 of our kids did, but there was no testing then so we don’t know. Youngest had a flu diagnosis, but wasn’t tested for Covid, and Dd had a mystery illness with high fever, rash and shutting down her kidneys. Her drs were baffled by that in March. She is recovered now except for horrible fatigue (but she did have mono last year and hadn’t fully recovered from that either).
Edited to add: dd (15) also had a classmate and their mother who tested positive mid March. I believe they are both recovered now.

When I texted my handyman last month needing him to come over he texted back and could not come as he was being tested for Covid and being quarantined. I have not heard from him, so I assume the test came back positive.
I was very sick in December and still cannot get my energy and strength back. I tire super fast. My friends who are nurses and a friend who used to be a respiratory therapist think I had Covid but I never went to a doctor. Back then no one would have known that was what it was.
