I’m wondering if anyone has had any events cancelled other than travel? I’m running a half marathon in 2 weeks and I’m very curious if it will end up being cancelled.. (this will make a big impact on my planning for “long runs” ughhhhhh) Our women in engineering Girl Scout event was cancelled for next weekend and push to another weekend in May. It’s put on by Whirlpool, and that have a Coronavirus plan in place. Part of it is no large gatherings for their employees. And since this is hosted by women engineers who work there, it’s a no-go. I get it. I do. But I am mildly perturbed by this. There are no cases of Coronavirus in this area. I think cancelling at this point seems silly. If there aren’t any cases in your area I imagine they are trying to help keep it that way.

My sister and I are flying to San Francisco on Friday for a week of relaxation and sight seeing. We are staying in a private home but do plan on using public transportation. I’m hoping it won’t be too crowded at the usual touristy spots.
Our only worry is that we both spend a lot of time with my mother who is 86. We both plan to curtail our visits with her for 14 days when we return. I would never want to risk her health in any way.

I seriously dislike cancelling everything because of the fear that it might appear (or even that it will appear). Life still goes on. But I do see the point in being safe esp because of the lack of testing kits. Like I said, only mildly annoyed. Not raging mad screaming at whirlpool or the Girl Scouts of America. 😉

Not raging mad screaming at whirlpool or the Girl Scouts of America. 😉 I get it, it does feel annoying, but it’s imperative that we slow down the spread so that our medical facilities aren’t overwhelmed as has been the case in other countries. And geez, we need to give them time to come up with action plans because from what I’ve read guidance from above is severely lacking. DH works as an occupational therapist at a skilled nursing facility, so he has prolonged physical contact with the residents. We went to a concert in a theater setting the other night (without touching a thing LOL) and that’s probably mostly it for a while for large gatherings for us. We even cancelled one of his Ironman races for the beginning of April outside of Houston. The potential risk to the people in his care is too great with the lack of testing going on. And, he’s been sick with the flu and a sinus infection for the last month so his training is shot, and his system is as well. Add in a month of intense training to get back into form, his diabetes, and his body would be primed o contract something. He’s super disappointed.

What are you planning on seeing?! I love the Udvar Hazy Museum of Nat'l Air and Space. A little outside of DC tho. I hope you enjoy your trip! Arlington cemetery is also awesome. We have been to Arlington many times, my grandfather was killed in World War II and is buried at Arlington. My husband's co-workers from New Zealand were visiting last week and took a weekend trip to DC. They were not allowed to enter Arlington because they are not US citizens. I don't know if that's the rule, or if they misunderstood something. Oh my maryland! I had never heard that about non-citizens at Arlington! I had to look it up and it does say it's new "increased security" and Persons who are not U.S. citizens must present a valid passport or U.S. State Department-issued photo identification for entry. I know last time I went, we don't think we showed ID or anything (but my memory is bad.) Hats off to your grandfather too!

We are supposed to fly to NYC this weekend for a few days. We have tickets to a broadway show, the symphony and a food tour. Hotel & airfare can be rebooked without losing money. The other stuff, not so much.
I was fine with going until I heard the mayor basically say that they aren’t planning a quarantine and not to get ahead of themselves but if it’s needed down the road it could be a possibility. I can’t imagine getting stuck in a city away from home for 2 weeks (which seems to be the quarantine length) or longer. Now we aren’t so sure what to do.

They may have left their passports at the hotel (in Pittsburgh where we live, or in their hotel in DC), maybe that's why they couldn't show them. Maybe next time they are here they can try again.

I came into my office today - hard to see in the photo but I’m staring at the Quarantined Princess cruise ship docked in Oakland - there are 2 helicopters hovering over it. The people should finally be disembarking...

I don't have any upcoming travel, but DS was supposed to go to SXSW for work. That got cancelled, but there are lots of non-SXSW events supposedly still scheduled so they may go anyway.
DB and his hubby went to Toronto over the weekend (DFW to O'Hare to Toronto) on a mini-vacation. He just left again from DFW to Quito (Ecuador) for business. He works for the airlines and is over their SA and Caribbean accounts, so this doesn't appear to be impacting work for him at least.

We have plans to go to Rome, Italy for 2 days then getting onto a cruise to take us to various Italian and Greek locations (double whammy). Good news is we aren't scheduled to leave until late May. I'm not making any decisions at this time.

We made plans last week to go to England and Wales for a Genesis concert but it's not until November. I figure things will either be under control by then or we will have already gotten and hopefully gotten over the illness.

We are still planning to fly to Disney in April. Our high school just canceled their two trips: one to Italy and one to Spain.

Well, our trip just got cancelled. Israel won’t let anyone enter without a 14 day quarantine so we’re out. Rebooked for August. We have a week booked in Scandinavia at the end of April. Will wait to see on that.

I'm flying cross-country (Washington to New York) in May to welcome my first born grandchild. Nothing is going to make me cancel that trip!!!
My 82 year old mom, however, has really cut back on her activities. We have season theater tickets and she is debating whether she wants to go in a couple of weeks.

I was just looking at cruise prices for the summer, trying to decide if it would be crazy to book for July. We could go early and give ourselves plenty of time for a possible quarantine before school starts. Am I crazy for considering it?

We could go early and give ourselves plenty of time for a possible quarantine before school starts. Am I crazy for considering it? Yes. I suppose if there is an excellent cancellation policy you could hope this is miraculously gone by then so no harm no foul. But even if it’s mostly gone, cruises are basically petri dishes for this sort of thing so if there’s a vacation ‘destination’ that’s most likely to still have issues, it’s this one.

We are just changing how we're traveling. We have a Princess cruise booked - Ft Lauderdale to Los Angeles, then Amtrak to Portland OR. DD1 is scheduled for a c-section (#3) on April 15. I'm not as afraid of catching COVID-19 as I am fearful of having someone else on the ship having it and the entire ship being put into quarantine. As it stands now, we would get into Portland on 4/13... cutting it close. So, we are going to cancel the cruise and drive. We've done the drive twice, once TN to OR and once FL to OR. Lucky for us we enjoy road trips - we take our time, stop when we see something interesting, and try to hit National Parks along the way. So we are planning routes now. Driving, not flying, because I have a severe phobia when it comes to flying. Princess is giving those who cancel a future cruise certificate, we'll use it when things calm down. Anyone have any suggestions for places to go/things to see? There's a lot between here and there.

My parents are flying to Arizona in a few weeks. I'm a little concerned, but I know they won't cancel so I don't even bring up the possibility.
Dh and I are planning on driving to Saugatuck for a couple of days during my spring break. I'd be more likely to think about canceling than he would.

Thank goodness we aren’t getting into Israel on Thursday. If our tickets were booked for Wednesday we probably would have travelled there, only to be organized and told to leave in an orderly fashion. It’s unprecedented, but Israel is kicking out all of its tourists. www.timesofisrael.com/tourists-will-need-to-leave-israel-as-part-of-new-travel-restrictions/Months of planning down the drain and we loose out on all of our tours booked. Thankfully we got the money back for our non refundable ticket. Hotels were all refundable too. Only 1 tour we booked had a cancellation policy.

Well, We had plans to go to the POKEMON GO event in St Louis the end of the month, that was just cancelled yesterday afternoon
Then we had tickets to Pearl Jam in Nashville and St Louis for the first week of April and they just postponed their whole spring leg of their tour.
We are planning on London for The Goodwood Festival of Speed and a Pearl Jam concert in July.
So as long is things don't continue to get cancelled for us, we dont plan on changing our travel plans, but I get the concerns.

My son's college (Ohio State) just told students that all classes are going to be held online. Unfortunately he is a music performance major. He is supposed to graduate this year, and his band, chamber groups, lessons, and senior recital performances are all graduation requirements.
We got an email late last night that said that EVERYTHING on campus was cancelled, and then an hour later got another email saying scratch that, they were still deciding what to do about labs and performance classes.
We shall see how they handle it.
I have a cruise scheduled in June, and if they sail I'll be on that boat.
