It’s not uncommon to not be treated well or ignored when we go to out of town games and cheer for the visitors, but everyone was so welcoming. I felt like I was in a friendly small Texas town! I wouldn’t be surprised if the games are stopped though. I hope you’re eventually able to do your dream trip!

We had decided that seeing O was out of our budget. We wanted to do something that the four of us could do together, so they suggested we all go to a hockey game. We may end up getting stuck in their house! I told my SIL that we need to go to the SB store the day we get there so we can have fun scrapbooking together if we do!

There’s 2, but my favorite was the Paper Bunny. Lots of great new products.

My DD’s spring break school trip to Panama was cancelled today. I’m so sad for her, but relieved a bit that this mom did not have to be the bad guy.

DD is booked to go on her 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. This is supposed to happen in mid-April for Spring Break. I am so bummed, they are giving us updates and so far the trip is on but I'm SO nervous to send her even if they do go on. What if they get stuck/quarrantined and can't get back? Its across the other side of the country, I'm in California. Nevermind the money, still trying to see if its not too late to get trip insurance, I stupidly didn't sign up to get it. U I'm also having SUCH a hard time just trying to stay calm and not panic about everything. I can't read the other threads and I'm avoiding the news. I'm trying not to feel so Chicken Little and be brave and optimistic. DC just declared a state of emergency this afternoon/evening - I would be surprised if the trip is a go. thehill.com/policy/healthcare/487112-washington-dc-declares-state-of-emergency-over-coronavirusoh gosh, okay I'm probably going to get an email today. Thanks Elaine <3 be well my friend.

I just cancelled my flight home to visit my kids. I have a cold, and am in no way interested in trying to explain myself at the airport. Nor do I want to get home, and not be able to get back. I think we are just seeing the beginning of travel restrictions.

Trump announced that all travel to Europe from the USA is cancelled. Per usual, he omitted a few key details. US citizens are exempt and can return home. There are a bunch of other restrictions. I'm still in a holding pattern for my Iceland trip. If Icelandair cancels flights due to low occupancy, then I'll reevaluate.

My son's trip to Cancun for spring break was just canceled. The dad (who was one of the parents going) has to stay behind because of a work issue, and the mom does not want to go to Mexico with 4 teenagers by herself. I don't blame her. Now i have to figure out how to bank his ticket with United until June or July.

I have a question for those of you who are cancelling hotels. I was to go to NYC at the end of the month. I purchased my hotel room in November as part of the hotels chain's annual sale. It is non-refundable. This is a smaller "boutique" international chain (based in the EU) with 23 locations. I spoke with them via online chat last night and they will only allow me to rebook immediately. No credit for a future date, etc. I'd have to make my mind up now when I want to reschedule this trip. Needless to say, that's difficult to do right now. If I leave it be, I'm out $900.
If you were me, what would your next step be? Call and speak with them in person today? Wait a few more days until things are worse? Not even bother to try and convince them to give me a hotel credit? What has your experience been when you've cancelled your reservation, especially if it was purchased as non-refundable? Do I call my CC company and ask them to deal with it on my behalf?
Thanks!

I was trying SO HARD not to cancel our DC trip, but it looks like we’re cancelling today.
I’m so sad.
Our White House tour is cancelled. Our Capitol tour is cancelled. The Supreme Court is closed. The Smithsonian cancelled “all public events”.
It seems like we won’t be able to do any of the things we had planned.

Supposed to go to Europe for three weeks June 30th. I’m hoping it’s all calmed down by then. But even if it hasn’t we’re still going unless they ban us.

I am interested in the responses as I am in a similar situation for the end of April. As of right now, hotel is saying if you cancel you lose all $. Hotel is already paid in full, I am wondering if we should contact my mom's cc company if we decide to cancel.

I just got off the phone with our hotel in NYC. The cancellation period was up on Monday. They did let me cancel tomorrow night as a one time courtesy but I still have to pay for Saturday and Sunday unless I can provide proof of flight cancellation or a doctor's note. If conditions continue to deteriorate, I will try again. I think it is worth calling and trying to get your hotel to at least give you a credit for a future trip.
I also requested refunds of all pre-purchased tickets but have had no replies yet.

I’d call and speak with someone - not online chat - on Monday. By then more and more things will be cancelled and/or shut down and it will be harder for them to not allow you to cancel for hotel credit for a future stay. If they won’t budge, I would tell them that you are going to dispute the charge with the CC company and then they will be out the $ that they could have kept if they issued you a credit. If that won’t do it, then contact your CC company and try to dispute the charge.

Soooo, DH wants to fly to New Brunswick from Ontario where we live (2 hour flight) since the flights are so empty, and visit his parents for the weekend. We just got back from St Lucia a few days ago. My sisters want to take the opportunity to go out to dinner. I'm not concerned about COVID 19 there, but were I live there are 40+ cases and we have been traveling internationally just last week. Plus, while I'm not scared, I'm not excited at sharing close quarters and canned air with others during a pandemic. But I would love to visit family and this may be the last opportunity for a couple months until after this is over. What say you? By the way, in-laws and family are not concerned in the slightest and are still planning on a cruise in early April.

We've canceled our trip to Peru. Got a credit for future flights and hotel stays so not exactly a refund, but we do plan to reschedule the trip. No problem cancelling one of our planned excursions, but the 2-day tour of the Sacred Valley and Machhu Picchu is non-refundable. I'm going to keep calling to see if things get more flexible, or if they will at least credit us for future use. It wasn't cheap. But if that's the only money we lose on it, we'll be better off than many.

I just canceled my upcoming (Monday the 16) trip to Palm Springs. Airline waived the cancellation fee and I’ll get a credit back to my travel bank. I’m feeling very good about the decision.

My sister and her family and 2 nieces are flying to Hawaii in 10 days. Her friends are telling her "it's just the flu" and her travel agent said "of course you should go" (no bias there I'm sure). I'm shocked.
I have pointed out that it's a melting pot of other countries all experiencing the same pandemic (they'll be in Waikiki - another suggestion ignored) - and now I've pretty much given up offering advice.
Meanwhile, I'm not sure if I'm going to a small crop on Saturday! My company is banning lots of travel and if you do go, it has to be cleared and you may end up with a 14 day quarantine. So my co-worker says her trip to Japan is on as far as she's concerned. :/

We were supposed to be going to DS's state gymnastics meet in Dallas. The meet was scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) through Sunday, and we had hotel reservations for Thursday-Saturday nights. Well, around 11 a.m. today, the meet was cancelled (which completely sucks but I agree with the decision) and we were way past the cancellation time for the hotel. This was Hilton chain. DH got them to charge us for one night only and to give us a great credit on a hotel for an October trip we were already planning, and he's not the world's greatest negotiator so he probably could have even gotten more. (I'm not criticizing, I SUCK at negotiations, which was why I made him call!) But as I said, it was with the Hilton chain. The discount was for one of their more boutique hotels, though.

I wanted to know what rock bottom was before I actually speak with a live person Now that NYC is pretty well shut down I think I'll have better leverage in a few days.

MichyM I just heard they were going dark with all Broadway shows and it made me think of you son. How bad will the impact be job wise for him? I like elaine’s advice above, except I’d probably just call now so that I know my options ahead of calling the hotel.

He'll be working from home for the forseeable future. His job is fairly secure, he's been there only a year, however his boss is out on maternity leave so he's doing 2 people's work. He's sent me texts with photos of his TJ's this afternoon on his way home. There is no food. And I mean FOOD, not TP and paper towels. ATMs are getting cleaned out. Yet, I offered to bring him to Seattle on a red-eye tonight (before travel to WA state gets restricted) but he said it would be too hard to do his job with the 3 hour time difference so he's staying put. KIDS. Mama is worried, and I am not typically a worrier.

I hope he stocked up and will be able to bunker down at home for a good period. Will definitely be thinking about him! I’m almost surprised my mom hasn’t requested we come stay there and she’s only 2 hours away.
