Do you know where that outside-the-city-limits location is? I live just outside the city limits just across the river. We've already got a mess here with one of our bridges partially closed (only one lane open in each direction) which is making a mess of rush hour. My dh has started either going to work at 6:00 and coming home early, or working from home till mid-morning and then driving in. Add stupid truckers into the mix and ugh.  |

I am quite relieved that I am working at a school 1.5 miles from my home and won't be going near the city this week. It will make the traffic nightmare that is commuting toward the city even worse.
Eta: imo, the list of grievances is proof to me that this is a political protest and really isn't about vaccine mandates, but about right-wing conservatives still being pissed off that they lost the presidential election.

How many people here want to bet on how many of those truckers couldn't accurately explain what CRT actually is?
Me, I’d put it at 99%.
This just highlights that what is going on in Ottawa isn't really about vaccines. If the truckers/right wing wanted to strengthen their case, they would limit the protest to the one thing, rather than a laundry list of the current right-wing grievances.

How very stupid of them. I am tired of these assholes. Do they think that the mob that stormed the Capitol should go free? Sure, because a bunch of ignorant jackholes trying to disrupt the legal process of certifying a presidential win, and destroying federal property in the process, should probably be commended, amirite?
I fear for this country, I really do. How do people this dumb actually function in the world? If a bunch of Dems had done the same thing to a Republican President-elect, they would be baying for blood.

Make no mistake, this isn't about truckers. Trucks are just a tool. Many of the rallies in different cities involved no trucks at all. I read yesterday at the bail hearing (for Pat King one of the ring leaders in Ottawa) that truckers are being paid $4000/day to stay at the occupation. There are still 4 large encampments of trucks in the outskirts of Ottawa just camping out.  I still have a few friends on FB who believe they can write to the Governor General in Canada and have the gov't removed LOL. We had a democratic election a few months ago. Many people are just regurgitating info from Fox news about Hitler and martial law (which we don't have in Canada). Gotta love Fox tv and the gullible. I've seen a few posts about how brutal the cops in Ottawa were to the protestors. Hint, they were given 7 days and about 50 notices to leave before they started clearing people out. Have fun America. |

There's a shuttle that will take you directly from the metro into the terminal. |

The rich have been using the gullible part of the lower-middle-class forever to fight their battles against taxes, against minorities, against women, against immigrants, etc. The rich want to go back to a system where they own the bulk of the wealth (we're pretty much there, but they want to KEEP IT that way), where they make all the rules, where no one else gets a seat at the table (looking at you LGBTQ, minorities and women), where white men are in charge of it all. They are horrified at the progress that other groups have made at getting a share of power and democracy. They will use the gullible part of the lower-middle-class as their useful fools and foot soldiers to gin up any issues that they can - first it was the "Moral" Majority, later, the Tea Party, Birtherism, Trucker Convoys, etc. But behind it all is this question: IN THIS ECONOMY WHO GETS THE POWER AND THE MONEY!?!?!They want to make sure it's just white, cis-het, Christian men. And they will stop at NOTHING to make their wants our reality. It's going to be an ugly 20 years. |

This is such a cluster - I'm not sure where exactly MSNBC pulled the list of from - you have a bunch of disparate groups with their own agenda and their own itinerary and own plan. The People's Convoy seems to be consolidating as "leader" based on NPR or at least their message is being shared more often. They're advocating the end of the national state of emergency. But right now you have hundreds of yahoos blathering about anything from vaccines, to immigration to agricultural policy (!?!) to quite literally any other policy you can imagine as it's quite literally Internet blather. We can only hope some of the more sane groups with no intention of stopping roadways or otherwise causing violence can prevail in keeping some of the other idiots in line, but more likely they'll decide the entire thing is a mess and stay home and we'll only be left with those who's real agenda is just violence.

sassyangel There is more than one. Most of them are all supposed to meet up in DC on March 1st. I am trying to find the route the ones from San Diego for the Freedom Convoy are taking. I am supposed to go up to LA that morning and I don’t want to get caught up in traffic. And reading their IG page is interesting. Many are saying to go block the Southern border instead of going to DC since going to DC won’t accomplish anything.

I am in Ca and found a live video of the starting point near Barstow. 20 truckers. 20. 1 is the convoy leader. So 19 people showed up. Such huge numbers man. Huge. Big. All these racist white Trump Twitter accounts boasting thousands. Ha.
