Hello everyone! I’ve just spent the last half hour reading through this thread, catching up on what everyone has been up to. I’ve been out of the loop for weeks; I think I last posted sometime in mid Sept, but I’m just going to jump back in.
Life has been a bit stressful the last couple of months. I started a college program and a new pt job in Sept, with the idea that I needed some direction and to get out of the house more. (When DD and family moved away at the beginning of the year and I stopped looking after my grandkids life felt a bit empty and like I had way too much free time.) Well I got a bit more than I bargained for! At the end of Sept my coworker fell and fractured her spine and I was asked to cover her shifts. So I’ve been working pretty much full time and trying to keep up with schoolwork. And on top of that my mom had to start treatment for myeloma after being in remission for 10 years, so I’ve been going to her oncology appointments with her whenever I can. October felt like I was running here, there and everywhere!
But I think (I hope) things are calming down finally. Coworker returned to work last week, so I’m back to my two days a week thank goodness. I really do like my job and I’m so grateful it was offered to me. I’ve somehow managed to keep up with school and I’m doing quite well which I feel so proud about. I’m 53 and haven’t been in school for over 30 years!
My mom is doing well and showing a great response to treatment, but she’s 78 and the chemo really wipes her out.
I finally got some scrapping done last weekend, just some very simple pages but it felt great to get back at it. I didn’t get any scrapping done at all in Oct but did do some scrap room organizing (stress cleaning!!) And I was able to finally finish my crochet blanket while sitting with my mom. So at least I got one goal crossed off my end of the year list and a few points for Oct.
Sorry to be writing a novel here!! Off to catch up on the sharing thread…

Oh wow, beachy, that's a lot! Glad to hear you've been able to keep up despite the extra hours of work. Well done! It must be a huge adjustment to go back to school. I hope your mom continues to respond well to treatment. I'm sure she appreciates your being there with her. Do you have a new crochet project to go on with?

Reading to keep up with goings on! Happy Birthday scrappyrabbit! Waving hi to everyone! I've hit the journaling wall--as in I don't want to journal anymore. Mostly because I am not doing any of it on a computer and printing it out. When I have a longer story to tell that is my preferred method. PLus I am overtired and don't write well when I am tired. Plugging along up to 26 pages since Friday. Last three double pagers need journaling still. Learned some new tricks, which is the way the collective beehive mind works!!! Creative Memories has this silicon mat that you can use the dot adhesive on the backs of die cuts etc. The adhesive sticks to the paper but not the mat and stays on the roll. Such a TIME SAVER!!!! All my titles cut with my Quickutz have been adhered this way. Gotta go, we are going to the Air and Space Museum across the street from the hotel. It's free on Tuesdays!

I’ve started the Dune blanket from Attic24. Such lovely soft colours in this one, perfect for my bedroom.

Wow, beachy , you have had a SEASON!!! And you scrapped, too? Hoping that your reduced work hours will give you a bit of relief, and that you can enjoy the holiday break when it comes. Thanks for sharing your pages. I hope to get a closer look at them later. angel97701 I often leave journaling until I get home from a crop. Find it hard to think when there is so much else going on. That would give you the added plus of being able to type and print. I agree with breetheflea --Get the box, Linda . Why should YOU have all the will power? Dgs is still here. After he has breakfast, we will be back in the basement again for the day. We put in the shelves yesterday, got quite a bit of sorting done, he hauled out a few bags to the dumpster, and we watched the Oilers win on TV last night. I gave him some scraps, some card bases, and a tray of holiday embellishments yesterday morning. During our breaks, he started making his Christmas cards. I am not allowed to look in a box in his room LOL. I will drive him back to town in time for his hockey practice this evening. Gotta go. TTYL!

I love that one I made a normal sized blanket with that pattern last year and then used the leftovers to make a lap/baby blanket in a slightly simpler stitch because it’s just too pretty. The colours are very soothing.

Lot is going on! Still at my retreat. I’ve decided that 4 days is max! I quit journaling late on Monday. Have 8 double page layouts that need journaling. With the one sitting in front of me I have finished 36 pages😊. Fatigue sets in. I’ve walked about 8-9k steps each day which helps, but it is too much sitting! 🤣 more when I’m home on my computer!

I went through an old scrapbook today - not the kind we make now, but the kind that’s newspaper and magazine clippings glued into a newsprint book. I put it together in 1999-2001 while I was living in Japan. I’ve decided to journal about it and take a good photo of the book itself which is actually from the 80s - I thought the cover design was so cool… that font! And then I’m going to recycle it. Howdy, Team! I've been largely lurking here. My workweek got sort of mixed up and I didn't work at home on Monday, but I'm home today, tomorrow, AND (hopefully) this coming Monday -- aaaahhhh! Cheers to angel97701 and everyone making good crafty (and otherwise) progress! Hugs to beachy and everyone with too full a plate. I did unearth my challenge list and start to work on my October tally. I finalized and consolidated most of my Christmas card lists and realized that I have PLENTY of holiday cards for this year. BEFORE taking the OCC So Very Merry class, but that's ok -- more ideas for next year and I did use the class kit during CARDtober. I think I've found a way to integrate holiday items into my general stash, too. I'm now looking to pivot to my own UFOs and Cards for Cubs in March. Somehow, some 25% off Doodlebug papers landed in my cart at ACOT during their 12 Days of Christmas sale. We'll see how that goes -- the ones I liked (Hello Cupcake) had only papers (no embellishments) available unless you got the card kit, which seemed overpriced even on sale, so I skipped it and just got a couple 12x12 packs. Hopefully some good SLOCs and PBTs will come out of it. I have some other brighter papers I bought with CfC in mind as well, so lots of pushing my color envelope to come!

Shopping has also been accomplished, Creative Memories does have some unique tools and papers. I’ll share more when I’m on my computer not my phone.
Maybe one title to do before packing up. But that is the order of the day. Packing, driving, maybe a Viking ship?

That scrapbook cover is cool, joblackford . Glad you are finding a way to use it. Can't wait to see the tools you picked up, angel97701 . Still use their original circle cutting system, and have picked up a couple of their punches recently. I have ordered some papers from them in the past couple of years, and particularly like their border strips. You have had a couple of off-ordinary weeks, Shakti . Yay for having all your holiday cards created! I haven't counted, but I love making them, so will continue playing for a couple of weeks. Hoping to join mom 's DD prep crop on Saturday to cut layered die pieces to use the following Saturday when I will have a couple of card makers here for a play date. Yay for peer pressure, Linda ! You will have to share a pic of the box contents.
I am hoping to put together a couple of LO's this morning while dh is in town for appointments. TTYL

I did unearth my challenge list and start to work on my October tally. Oh, I just realized I started calculating and didn't finish... Adding that to my to do list today. My tracking sheet is such a mess. I haven't even looked at the regular challenge list counting for October.

I have been in scrapbook area organization mode and not so much making pages mode recently. DH is at work (upstairs) so I have the downstairs to myself and can play music and be loud, but I have a job interview tomorrow morning (on Zoom) and I have nerves. I've been Googling interview questions and trying to write answers in my head all morning and have not been scrappy... I might go for a walk and see if that helps.

I actually really like their papers and embellishments, but they are just too pricey for me and I don't like the thin papers. linda you inspired me to check out their Christmas box. Please share what the contents are when you receive it! I am in a shopping mood also, but mostly for clothes. I got some warmer pajamas for the baby as it's starting to get chilly here over night. I also got some gifts but my gift list is long this year and I need to get on top of that.

Home and very sleepy!!! Clothing and such is unpacked BUT not the crafty stuff!
Return trip started with a bit of drama . . . my battery in my hybrid car was DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!!!! It is probably 8 years old. Could not unlock the car!!!! After a call to DH found the manual key inside one fob (but not the other--glad I had both along), and tried to unlock. I now have a bruise on my right index finger!!! With help from 3 male employees we got the car started. It most likely needs a new car battery, but the hybrid batteries are fine. We always plug it in at home, so it was never an issue here. Drove it on Tuesday night, no problem--but this morning when it was time to leave? Nope!!!

Leftovers from last year put a good dent in my list for this year, so it's not like it would be a bad thing to make a few samples from some of these classes to store for next year.... Hope you knock your interview out of the park, breetheflea!

Also, grammadee, Rules Lawyer Question of the Day: I consider myself to have met all the CARDtober challenges, but I realized that I made the cards for all four of my challenges prior to CARDtober. Does that still count as having met them? Or am I actually four challenges short?

Glad you are home safe, angel97701. Glad you got the vehicle going. It must have been homesick!
Sending positive vibes for your job interview, breetheflea.
I finished three two-page LO's yesterday! Two I posted in the morning, but I didn't finish the last one until after supper, so I will be photographing it when I have some light. Not much scrappy time today, but I hope to go through my dies to select the ones I want to use tomorrow to cut pieces for Christmas cards. That is what I plan to do during mom's DD Prep Crop Saturday morning. I have some photo cases to store the elements for each different set. I am not really an assembly line card maker, but last year I found it handy to do pre-cutting and assembling the elements so on card making day I just had to grab and glue.

Job interview... well it's over. It was a little unnerving answering questions while two people were writing the entire time I was talking, but they said they were contacting my references and doing a background check so I guess that's a sign I passed.
I'd be a substitute lunch lady so not anything fancy, but not working summers, evenings, or weekends and not taking work home with me is +++. After a year, I can apply to be a permanent lunch lady.
Glad that the interview is over! Time to scrapbook.

breetheflea Just so you know, lunch ladies can be very important people in the lives of students! Yeah!!!! Hope it works out for you. As a retired teacher I knew a number of food service employees over the years. Just as important as all of the (classified and certified) staff in a school.

Early (for me) doctors appointment to get established with a new provider. I really liked her, young and just moved back to the area. Both good signs for a long relationship for a primary care doctor. Have referrals for mammogram, bone density scan (recommended for 65+), gastroenterologist, and endroconologist. Checking under the hood and kicking all the tires. Have a dermatologist appointment next week for a few things as well. Thank you Medicare and my PERS retirement system health insurance. Not cheap--but I will be taking advantage and get all caught up.
I did get my Covid and flu vaccines today--primarilly because of the up coming cruise in December. Otherwise I'm not really exposed to a ton of people anymore. BUT in this case, decided it was best to be preventative! Both arms are now sore. Have three more that are due, including Shigrix. DS18 had these at age 13 due to his chicken pox in Russia and subsequent shingles Dx. My mom had shigles once, another friend my age 3x's. So again to be preventative!
Time for a nap!

You put in extra effort to have them made early and I think you waited to share them until the challenges and this is all for fun anyway! That's what I was telling myself last night as I waded through my math. If I accidentally tallied a few points higher than they should be I can be pretty sure I also missed some in other places. We just got our first shingles vaccinations - ouch! But better than getting shingles. I'm assuming I will feel like crud later so I cooked a lamb curry and a big pot of leek and potato soup this morning. That should keep us going for a while. Last night I was feeling a bit stressed so I tidied away everything on my desk and called the animal theme done for now. I need to switch back to Christmas cards! I'm waiting on a die to be restocked, but in the meantime I have plenty of other papers to use.

Weird coincidence! I was just posting about shingles vaccination at the same time as you. My SIL has already had shingles twice in her 40s and was told she couldn't have the vaccine until she was 50 regardless. My covid arm hurt a day longer than my flu arm this year. The Shingrix stings a lot going in and the sore arm is expected to be as bad. Hoping we don't get a lot of side effects. They say that the second dose is worse.
