I loved that book as a child and am currently re- reading it at the moment. I'm a librarian at a primary school and am collecting classics for my reading group (extension) students to read. Having a movie coming out will certainly increase their interest. Next on my list is the Island of the Blue Dolphins. I know there was a movie made in the 60's but I think the story would be a great adventure movie. Same as My side of the Mountain. Both are based on true stories. (Island is loosely based) Corinne Oh, I love love love Island of the Blue Dolphins. She's legendary in our schools here because the Islands are right off our coast, so in 4th grade along with California history the students read the book and study her story. I dated a guy who had a sail boat and we would often sail out to the islands and anchor for the night. Watching the dolphins swim along side the boat was magical. I always would sit and just look out over the islands as the sun was setting and think about her. Here is a link you might find useful for your students. NPS Island of the Blue DolphinsSorry for the highjack, I loved Wrinkle in Time, I'm going to have to re-read it! How amazing! I still remember the movie- found it terrifying at times but loved it anyway. Thanks for the link. Encouraging students to read older books can be a real challenge- even with newer book covers! I am glad to hear some "real life" reviews on these. I have trouble with standard masks and had a bit of a freak out in Fiji- water was really rough, we were out in the middle of the ocean to swim with reef sharks.
My mask kept leaking and I got a bit panicky and was ready to head back to the boat. Luckily my husband is an experienced diver and as always patiently stayed with me until I started to snorkel comfortably. I will definitely buy one before our next trip- next year!

My mother trekked out of Burma when the Japanese were advancing- she was very young and it was only when she had dementia did a few random (scary) memories return. We had a great relationship but I too wish I had asked her more questions about her younger years. When my father died a few years ago I used an autobiography he had started writing before Alzheimers and Parkinsons took over to use for his eulogy. Stories of how his parents couldn't afford to send him to school, so he ran away and caught a train from New Delhi to Calcutta, aged 10. He was sent back straight away and he managed to go to school. This would explain how he travelled with his wife and 2 young children half away across the world to Australia for a better life. Stories of how he worked as a mechanic, walking miles to work each day for very little pay. How he learnt to type from a church group and eventually got a job at the American Embassy- when he came to Australia he became a computer programmer- an up and coming job in the 60's! I have started to write my own story and just recently told my husband to do the same. He is Welsh and I know very little about his life there before he came here as a teenager. I also wish I had recorded conversations with them- it has been 3 and 2 years since they both died and sometimes I struggle to remember their voice. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) Enjoy your visit with your mum, every moment is indeed precious. Thanks for all your suggestions. I have just added them to my list. ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I had never thought of a cushion but will definitely get one now as I want to be comfortable for 3 days! According to a message I just got it appears that there will be about 12-15 people attending, and I don't know any of them. I'm pretty sociable and I'm sure they will be too. I'm starting to put photos, paper/cardstock, embellishments and sketches together. I still have a great selection of layouts from 2Peas gallery that I saved from my account- recently sorted them into categories and printed them, so I can use them for inspiration. I know that I will end up throwing in extra stuff at the last minute- JUST IN CASE! Hoping to complete 20 layouts. Corinne

I always take a post-it pad so I can write on anything I forgot or want to add to a LO and stick it on that LO so I can remember when I go to finish it at home. Have fun! This is a great idea as I know I will not finish everything on each layout. Especially journaling as I won't have a printer. Corinne

So it has been 9 years since I last went on "scrapbook camp" and I have hardly been to any crops since then either.
I am going to a 3 day retreat held in a hotel with people I do not know- perhaps there may be some familiar faces when I get there but I doubt it.
Back in the day I took page kits - in fact my local scrapbook shop had me give a little "talk" about preparation on their sale night before camp. People just used to take everything they owned back then! I will take my laptop and silhouette and maybe my cuttlebug with embossing folders, my new stamp platform, light, trimmer, ATG gun and lots of refills. I am probably going to make up about 20 kits with a variety of topics- easy holiday layouts from Hawaii and Fiji, easy pet layouts but am also thinking of taking some of my wedding photos to start on. There will be a shop owner there selling a variety of stuff also. I don't drink coffee so I will probably take a mini esky for my soft drinks. I am so excited- I am on holidays now so I can prepare - retreat starts next Friday! Hopefully I won't have any Crop Nightmare stories to share on my return!!!
Any other must haves I should take?

I haven't joined in any challenges but I am trying to use up stash and tools so I am going to try. I am going to take out my border punches and use a couple- dare I say it? Perhaps my Threading Water punch! I also need to start using my paper pads. I bought them because all the papers co-ordinate and because there are several sheets of each design , I thought it would encourage me to use them but no... most sit there untouched. Wish me luck Corinne

We could smell something not quite right in our pantry, thought it was that weird smell potatoes sometimes get. It got worse so we threw them out- nope, smell still there. Finally found a kilo of mince left behind in one of our green bags. (re-usable bags so we keep them all together in a bunch) it was nice and green and very off!
Another time we were driving up the coast of Qld, 5 hrs from airport. As my mother in laws husband was flying interstate he had left his car at airport for us to pick up and use. We saw a stall by the side of the road selling Moreton Bay bugs (an Australian type of lobster). They packaged them nicely in bags of ice and double bagged them as we had a long way to go. When we arrived we took them inside straight away and ate them for dinner. Delicious!
Next morning, went out to the car and discovered the most horrific smell- bags had leaked seafoody water over the carpet in back seat area. We scrubbed and scrubbed, used every cleaner and disinfectant known to mankind over the next week and thought we had got rid of it. Picked him up from airport, with windows open- around 30 + degrees Celsius, got all the way home before he said "What the hell is that smell?" Thank goodness we were going home soon after.

I have a WRMK envelope punch board I still haven't opened. I know it's supposed to be great, but I guess I don't make cards as much as I used to I have this in a special card making box- along with sentiment stamps from Stampin up- all brand new and never used. One day I WILLl make some cards! I loved the Threading water punch and used it a lot- now you have reminded me to bring down the box of border punches and use them. I have some really nice ones too. And yes I too have lots of embossing folders that need to be used. Corinne

I ordered the original one from the UK after reading about CraftonlineUK here. I ordered it on the 19th of June and just checked my tracking- 23rd of June today and it has just arrived in Adelaide, South Australia all the way from Glasgow!! It was processed at 7pm so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it may be delivered tomorrow morning which is a Saturday. If not it will definitely be here Monday. I can't wait to use it on 12 x 12 layouts and finally use all the beautiful stamps I own but have been too afraid to use. Corinne

I'm a little bit excited! Last time you told me to try this site it was sold out, not long after you had ordered yours. This time my order has gone through. I'll be interested to see how long it takes to get to me here in Australia. I'm not in a hurry but am hoping this will make me use my many brand new stamps a lot more. Thank you! Corinne

My friends and I (all of us teachers) were at the theatre to see "Dirty Dancing" and these women two rows behind us kept talking.
Eventually my friend turned around and said "shh" but they kept on so then she turned around and said "can you please be quiet?" in her very best, calm teacher voice at the same time as someone else said "shh" They made some comment about paying a lot of money for their seats and my friend answered "so did WE!" Finally they stopped. As we were leaving they were still in their seats and were talking loudly about how RUDE people from Adelaide were and they wouldn't like to come back!
And I am going to be honest here I have wanted to say it so many times at staff meetings or training and development seminars I have attended. Teachers can be the worst side talkers. Funnily enough many times it is the ones who run their classes with an iron fist, allowing very little noise who are the ones who keep talking themselves. I always turn my back on them and ignore because it is a bit hard to tell off colleagues whom you have to work with daily. Corinne

I just read this thread and I was just about to post a vote for "so long and thanks for all the fish" I love that quote - I'm glad that some people recognised (or nearly) recognised it. And although it was a sad memory for someone, as long as I get to have a long and happy life I would love that to be on my funeral program. It might seem strange but I already have a file on my computer with photos , instructions, songs etc for my funeral. I've recently written and spoke both my parent's eulogies and with my sister organised all the other details so I want to make things easy for my own family when the time comes. I shall add this quote to my list. Thank you. Corinne Oh and good luck with your new job!

I cant believe there were more attacks, its so sad ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) I have most of my family going on a big European vacation to London and Paris starting tomorrow. Three adults and three kids ages 12 through 15 there meeting up with family that's already in London. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody cancels their trip because of these awful attacks. I want them to go its a great opportunity{ ?} but if they do go I'm going to be on pins and needles for the next two weeks worrying about their safety. All I can do right now is pray for everyone's safety and that these awful cowardly attacks STOP!! I feel exactly like you. My sister , her husband and 3 kids aged 13-19 are heading to London in a few weeks for a much anticipated family holiday for 4 weeks. They only booked tickets a few days ago, my nephew is going to compete in the Para athletes World championships. The girls have been so excited planning trips to the theatre and other great places- their first ever overseas holiday. I know I will feel worried until they are safely home, even though my logical mind tells me that bad things can happen at any time, anywhere. The police response seems so quick and of course the response from all the local people offering help is just amazing. There really seems to be no easy answer to this terrible problem. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) Corinne

I love the Shark Attack one too! My husband has done many shark feeding dives in Fiji and he also took our grandson cage diving with Great Whites so I could definitely use this collection. I like the Halloween one too. Is this a new company? I shall have to search for them - alas shipping from ACOT is outrageous to Australia. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) Corinne

I did see fried onions written underneath but here fried onions are just that- onions sliced and fried in a pan! (usually served on a hamburger or steak sandwich) I assumed it must be some special side dish. We do have onion rings at Hungry Jacks (Burger King?) but they are round crumbed circles. I never would have guessed they were onions. They look yummy but I don't think I could eat them AND a steak, with baked potato and salad. Maybe as a snack though! Corinne This makes me LOL because the Bloomin' Onion is a signature dish at The Outback Steakhouse, an Australian themed chain restaurant in the US. Next you're going to tell me you've never heard of Alice Springs Chicken or Chocolate Thunder from Down Under either. FTR, I much prefer traditional onion rings to a blooming onion. SaveSaveSo.. I just checked out their menu- I would have ordered the steak and lobster myself. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Funny thing is, the menu seems a lot like Hogsbreath Café to me which is originally an American franchise I think? I'm not too familiar with it (been there twice a hundred years ago) - we are too busy eating Vietnamese, Indian, Afghani and Asian food- we are not big steak eaters in our house. Corinne

I thought the picture of her husband was a stock photo What kind of stock photos do you have restricted access to? He might make the "totally random-looking guy with the poor man's version of Keith Urban's haircut who won't scare the trick-or-treaters away" search. At best. I'm just going to try and not laugh too loud at annabella 's find. That list is totally the contrary of Tracie's life. Girlfriend got called out for angrily replying in the BH Home thread at past 3AM local time and has been posting crap food on IG since leaving the hospital for her provided-by-God pacemaker surgery. Yeah, you keep that healthy mind in that healthy body of yours, TC... #verylittlesugar #healthyfood If you're going to eat crap after getting money for health problems from your followers, at least be discreet about it and don't post it all over your feed. Case in point: https://www.instagram.com/p/BUDRK2ohHtP https://www.instagram.com/p/BULjJT1hbP0 I'm only posting because I have no idea what is on that plate with dipping sauce! Are they chips? in batter??? And most importantly do they taste good? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Corinne

Mmm.. we don't usually give each other gifts for birthdays or Christmas. BUT, we did get married last year ( been together 25 years now) so maybe this might be an exception. I do like the poem idea or a photo book. We were planning to spend our anniversary dinner sitting out in the private bure out in the middle of a lagoon in Fiji where we had our wedding dinner, but unfortunately house renovations need to be done so holiday is off the agenda. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) Maybe a framed wedding photo with a poem or even our vows? Off topic but is Frantic Stamper an okay place to order from? There's something I need that I can only find there but I've never ordered there before and I like to get the pea stamp of approval I remember that stamp! I ordered it and when it came it was faulty- design barely raised. Luckily I was sent a new one promptly. I haven't ordered from Frantic Stampers is a few years but it was the main place I used to order from. I live in Australia and ordered my ATG gun, clip it up and lots of paper, stamps and my whole stickle collection. Her service was always excellent, she used to remove boxes and packaging for me to make it cheaper and always sent extra little gifts in the gaps. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I must go and check out her website again. I think I stopped ordering because shipping costs became too high for me - not her fault but the customs. Corinne

I found a letter K sticker somewhere in the house. I know it came from a layout or mini album. I just don't know which one. So it keeps getting moved around my desk until I take the time to figure it out. I keep putting it somewhere thinking it's a good place for it. Then I forget where it put it. Then I stumble on to it again and think, "Oh, its you again." Then I find a "better" place for it. Someday I'll find that little K's home. I have a little pen organiser with drawers on my desk. Currently it has a B, a blue heart, a red square with an eyelet (yes that's how long it's been lost!) and a little bone tied with Twistel sitting in it!! I actually can remember which layouts they come from but am too lazy to take the time to work out which ALBUMS the layouts are in and put them back together. Corinne

Yes, my 19 yr old nephew. He is a Paralympian who won a gold medal at Rio last year. Actually came in handy for him recently. He doesn't drive and uses his passport for ID. He lost his wallet one night and needed to go to a bank to get money. But of course he had no ID whatsoever on him to prove who he was. He asked "would my Wikipedia page do?" He got out his phone and showed them - they accepted it! Corinne

I'm so glad someone posted a picture of a "smock" - so not what I was thinking! Where I live smocks were short sleeved flowy tops we wore as kids in the 70's or pregnant women wore them. I was thinking no way are people wearing them today still! My mum used to wear what you show as a smock when she worked in a cake factory back in the 70's and we called them aprons. I too am surprised that in 2017 uniforms are not more, well uniform! and everybody wears the same. In our supermarkets everybody wears shirts/polo shirts and pants - no skirts at all. Good luck with your quest. Corinne

I have quite a nice supply of pineapple papers, silhouette files, brads and a few stamps even. I will be using them on my Fiji and Hawaii albums but also on layouts about my pineapple collection, pineapple printed shoes, earrings, t-shirt, handbag, quilt cover set, assorted stationery and yes even an amazing pineapple dress I wear! Have I mentioned that I don't eat pineapples AT ALL? I even pick them off pizza, I dislike the taste so much! Now if I can just find some use for the flamingo paper I have... Corinne
