Do note if this was a thread about impactful teachers and Merge talked about the work she “champions” I would have thanked her for her hard work and not given it another thought. But this is a thread about a racist ass white man and a woman who is all like “Wait I don’t think he meant it like that”. Context. And me thanking her for the work she does still wouldn’t change the fact that Black children are being harmed in classrooms as we go back and forth. Like right now. Racist ass system doing exactly what it’s meant to do. And the women you make it possible 🤷🏾♀️ Be careful of declaring yourself an ally. Don’t wait for me to hand you the badge because we all know allyship is a human shield for Olan. But one thing I do know is an ally wouldn’t have dared commented the way Merge did. Quiet and thought it maybe but vocally supporting Graham? Nah! Wait for someone to tell you, you are a good ally. Better yet just be the embodiment of allyship without the need for acknowledgement. This is the work you OUGHTA be doing. It’s a long time coming.

I didn’t feel like you were excusing him. You did. And when I genuinely inquired about the work you and the other pea “champion” you assumed I was about to critique it. If I had not it would like sitting in a room full of LEO’s and letting them tell me the organization they are apart hasn’t harmed me or other Black people. Teachers are racist AF. That’s a fact. The research suggests it. The money these non profits spend on conferences to right the wrongs in classrooms each day prove it. I can’t fathom why anyone would be bragging about how tirelessly they work...when it’s a failing ass system. I mean you could. And then get mad at me for pointing it out but again who does that harm?
The whole ignoring thing is petty AF but predictable AF. If I wanted to ignore you I could. If you wanted to ignore me you could have. Neither of us made those choices today. You of course made the choice to Get all huffy with a black woman who won’t coddle you and tell you the work you are doing is impactful when we know what we know. Be advised I’m fully aware there are impactful white women doing actual work....I guarantee none of them are online acting like Merge though. Excusing of racist thought that brought pain and harm to another group of people. Braggart. Flippant to black women. Ra-ra ing one another. Martyrs who champion “POC”. You know true allies who don’t deserve the type of “indictment” I levied... ha really but what the hell do I know.
Listen to Black women. Amplify the voices of Black women.
Easy peasy to either call out white men when they are spewing hurtful nonsense or say nothing at all. Maybe I’m missing something

I have been a poll worked since 2000, and a chief inspector, head of the polling site since 2007. I didn't work in April or August since I was dealing with a cardiac issue. Our clerk has a great set up and I am not worried about the few minutes someone will be in our room. I am concerned about spending 16+ hours with some of the workers, as they are choosing to live life as usual. 3 of them just posted pictures in a bar, no social distancing. Our area is in dire straits right now. That is my worry....... I get paid $150 per election. Not in it for the money. Before retirement, I would take Tuesday off to work the election. Thanks!

Also don’t look to Black women to fix a damn thing. Words or the world. We are literally fighting for our lives. You benefit from it. You uphold it. You excuse it. You dismantle it. Seems fair right?

FYI Not sure anyone expects white women change the world overnight but two things you could do to start:
The smugness...it’s not needed. Stop acting like you are bringing about change because we can see change hasn’t happened yet. I navigate this anti black world every day it’s a slap in the face when you act like the Rocky of Antiracist society.
The excusing of white men behaving like white men...stop that shit too. My ancestors died horrible deaths behind segregation. We are still dying.
This is bigger than your ego or desire to be seen a certain way.

The standard isn’t set my Olan FYI. If I said I was championing stray dogs but over the years the problem worsened....someone should absolutely make me aware the problem hasn’t gotten any better. Even the word “champion” puts you in the mind of progress. I don’t know why the concept of Anti-racist progress is such a hard one to grasp. In the same thread where people are excusing the nostalgia of Jim Crowe no less. No, I haven’t singlehandedly changed the word and, fun fact, neither have you. Perhaps you could go back to go ignoring me as well. Have a great rest of the week! Fun fact it’s not up to black women to fix this.

Such an unfair indictment of someone who’s an ally. When you asked for an account of actions and results, that IS asking for quantifying, and when she actually does provide, is stricken down having been found sorely wanting by you. By your yard stick, no one who has pursued righting some racial wrongs in their own way, in their own environment, measures up to your standard. By your estimation, it would seem you believe to be the only one capable of achieving true progress, and everyone else who puts in whatever effort they are capable of is dishonest and an utter failure. Yep. I should have known better than to engage. I’ll go back to respecting her wish for me to not give my input on her posts. This isn’t my post. And be sure quote where I’ve said hey “ Merge the educator please don’t weigh in on the topics I bring to the board.” I try to take the personal nature out of my posts. I’m not saying I am a champion of this by any means😉but please know there isn’t always this “gotcha” theme to my questions. Also note I fully expect to not be heard here so it’s no skin off my nose when you decide to dig in and continue treating me the way you have for the last 5 or so years I’ve been “vocal” about black issues

I think the sentiment shown in this thread is why America is America. It’s not working. The progress you think you’ve made isn’t progress. It stings to have it called out but people are dying while you try to quantify being a champion of something. If you are championing anti racist classrooms...you don’t have a passing grade. Be “vocal” as you work or hell be quiet. You’ve gotta be honest about the work that you do too though *shrugs* Such an unfair indictment of someone who’s an ally. What causes? How do you champion them? What’s the result of that action? Democratic causes which include racial equity. Merge is a Democrat and a progressive who supports and defends them just as I do. As to actions and results, this is a message board. Everyone here is free to take a person’s word and level of sincerity and engagement at face value OR not. Either way, I, or anyone else for that matter, do not owe anybody on this board a catalogue of the actions I take in my private life so I can prove my support and advocacy bona fides, nor do I owe anyone a report card on the outcomes. If that is not satisfactory to some, that is not something I am inclined to remedy. Fair.

Our “TwoPeas History” again declaring herself an ally whilst behaving opposite Since most every pea jumped on the bandwagon and treated Olan in very much the same manner it’s difficult for me to put pea names and conflicts together. So excuse me if I don’t recall every row I’ve had and the pea name it coincides with. My sister helps teachers create more equitable classroom environments and the push back in her own organization is astounding. I truly am curious about the work that white women champion and what’s the “end game” so to speak. Especially as it relates to education...which I posted studies about 🧐 ] Of course no one wants to talk about how common racist practices are in the classroom. Or how much money is thrown at getting white women to treat black students like they do white students. Forget the racist leadership of these non profits!! It’s a running joke that each non profit dealing with equitable schools has at least one outwardly racist white women leading the “POC”. Please don’t let me stop you from being a classroom champion though. *backing away hands in the air* I’ve said several times LEOs and teachers are the professions we really need to focus this new “anti-racist” training on. And I’ve also said...you don’t have to like me or even agree with me to take the time to critically think about the topics I post. If you are REALLY working to be anti-racist amplifying the voices of Black people Especially black women is THEE best way. Try it sometime. 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/63682/girlhood-interrupted-erasure-black-girlswww.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-486167592peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/94431/dr-pepsi-teacher-bulliesRegarding my “history”: If you feel like it’s a “gotcha question” you are always welcome to continue ignoring me. Much like you did those threads about racism in the classroom.

What causes? How do you champion them? What’s the result of that action? I work and have worked for more than a decade in urban Title 1 public schools, advocating for them at the state and district level, and making sure the kids I serve get the best possible education I can give them. I work and advocate for pro-public-education candidates at the local, state and federal level. I work and campaign for candidates who show commitment to social and economic justice. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. I participate in anti-racist discussion groups led by POC on the topic of education, and have changed and continue to change the way I teach and interact with students and families based on what I learn. It's a process and I am well aware that I'm not perfect in this area. I keep learning and working. I teach my own children the core values of justice and equality for everyone, and have made sure they attend racially and economically diverse schools where they meet and learn to relate to all kinds of people as human beings. It's not enough, but it's what I'm able to do right now. Also, based on your history here, I'm answering you in the hope that your question was sincerely asked and meant to drive discussion, and not just an attempt to "gotcha" me and/or lizacreates by deciding we haven't done things the right way to suit you. I don't know you, don't know if you're who you say you are, and don't answer to you. I answer to the families I serve at school and my friends here who are POC, who are not afraid to call me out if I'm in the wrong. You told me several years ago that you didn't require my input on anything, and I have attempted to respect that by not interacting with you. You've called me out on this thread so I'm responding, but I won't engage in bad-faith "gotcha" attempts if that's what this turns out to be. My questions were genuine and I appreciate the time you took to respond. Edited to add: Notice you already have expectations about how I will respond before I even type it out and then get all flabbergasted when it’s what you welcomed. But I’m the pea who baits everyone eh? My response matched your energy.

FWIW, public schools are still not desegregated. They’re not even “separate but equal.” Majority black and brown schools are criminally underfunded, and states like mine take it a step further by then taking their money and giving it to charter schools that prey on families who are desperate to help their children escape poverty, usually offering poor results in return. I don’t personally think that believing that Lindsey probably said something stupid without thinking *this time* discounts any of that. But YMMV. You're right that interpretation will vary, of course. Mine certainly did. Whatever difference there may be is not a poor reflection on either of us. You and I champion the same causes. What causes? How do you champion them? What’s the result of that action?

FYI - the faculty of the law school have written in her support (23 of them signed a letter to the Judiciary Committee) The letter in opposition was from faculty in other departments. But I agree with you that unless there's another COVID outbreak, none of this matters. I am going to hell so here it goes. You are the queen of voting for the opposite side while trying to make it look like you are with us. Every single fucking post. Sometimes it is as easy as that....just pick a goddamn side. We are not stupid to think everyone at Notredame opposed her confirmation. Yes the law school faculty at Norte Dame did not sign the letter. We read Fox News too. 88 faculty members from other departments like political science, sociology and others signed. I guess that doesn’t matter to you and your “semantics”. The point is most of us here do not want her as the Supreme Court judge. I am sick and tired of this “I am just stating facts” or “I am not voting for trump and I don’t like that trump is doing this BUT...”. Sometimes in life there is no gray area and this shit show of trump is one of them I concur. It used to be maddening to me until I saw the pattern in it. I’m always trying to find inventive ways to avoid walking around seething with anger and the best I’ve come up with as it relates to the DarcyCollins/Amy Barretts of the world is: They have been maintaining the fuckery way before I even came to be. It’s just who they are 🤷🏾♀️Nothing I type, and certainly nothing I do can implore them to be anything but who they’ve always been.

Other things to consider:
The type of critical thinking American educational systems are pumping out.
Why any “great mind” from another country would make America “home”...if you are older think of all the specialty Drs you see. Any of them American?
The number of good folks who are exiting this country because they don’t feel safe. You don’t have to count me among them but there is a community of like 250 black women here already. I even know a woman applying for asylum 😳
I think the future of two political parties is the least of America’s concerns. Least it should be.

All of those things sound great! I’m on Day 5 of a 21 Day GirlTrek challenge where Black women were instructed to simply walk for 30 mins and pray. Each day they highlight a scripture and someone who embodied the scripture during their fight for Black people. Yesterday was Diamond Reynolds Philando Castile’s partner who recorded his killing. Today it’s Colin Kaepernick. youtu.be/mmQIvL3b0igIs the song of the day though the gospel song that always reminds me of Colin is God Favored Me by Heziekiah Walker

I’m hopeful I will be the member in my family free who went first. I wish every family member could divest as quickly as I have.

“A captain with the Logan Police department said their office is receiving more than 300 calls an hour regarding the arrest made at a Hocking County middle school football game. Logan Police officer Chris Smith has also received multiple death threats and racial insults. He has been reassigned from the Logan Hocking School District at this time.” abc6onyourside.com/amp/news/local/logan-police-department-receiving-hundreds-of-harassmentGuess all the facts don’t need to come out if it’s a white woman being tased by police. I hope that tells the thousands of Black people either in supportive roles or LEOs that it’s not about backing the blue at all. It’s about maintaining a system that harms Black people. My family lives in this area. Last Sunday during brunch we saw about 100+ cars & trucks each vehicle had either a Confederate Flag or a Trump 2020Flag flying. Some had both. Patrons began staring at us and maybe 5 mins into the hate parade we actually got up and left. Several of the cars yelled Nigger as we drove by. Russia and China #birdmanhands

Trump and his whole family are terrible people. Our country deserves better! maybe we do and maybe we don't. Who is voting in Nov? How many of voters will vote and what exactly do they believe and desire our country to be? This is a test. ( it was at test in 2016 and we failed it ) Because he is exactly what the 'proud boys' and people like them deserve. A self important, blow hard, idiot who can't think of anyone beyond himself and his circle. A racist, xenophobic, sexual predator, business failure, creep, bully. But people wanted him, people voted for him & *we* got him. The rest of the world is laughing at the US because he such a fucking incompetent idiot. The rest of the world is shaking their collective heads thinking WTF America weren't you supposed to be better than this? Apparently this is exactly who some American really are. The question is how many of *us*...... I think America is getting the America it deserves 🤷🏾♀️. It was well pass the time for “good people” to intervene. So the number of us who aren’t racist xenophobic, bullies etc. at some point watched those behaviors go unchecked. A pea said she wouldn’t be surprised if I was met with some form of police brutality given my “pea history” and no one said fuck all. Now the latest sensational police shooting is a kid with autism. Injustice trickles down. My favorite Color Purple quote is “The jail you’ve planned for me is the one you will rot in”. America was constructed on some pretty shit values and never reconciled it. We’ve instead continued to behave in very much the same manner. Unchecked. Harming folks. Not saying sorry. Had Americans done anything to become an anti-racist society during the Obama administration what happened with this presidency wouldn’t have even been able to take root. He is a literal clown but then again how many low level clowns run things simply because equality is just a word people like to throw around. No one else gets a chance. Look at the two candidates debating last week. We keep doing it again and again. Imagine Maxine Waters or hell even Kamala Harris during those debates. 45 would have been dog walked. I voted and leave the country in a few days. My family is staying and it feels very much like leaving a war torn country. I’m pretty pissed but trying to stuff that emotion down so my new life can take shape without anger being the motivating factor anymore.

Just as an aside: there are a LOT of us who fervently disagree with how this was handled. It was presented as a constitutional amendment in MY state. I researched it thoroughly, discussed it with attorney friends and completely agreed with it as written. There was no mention of fee payments as a requirement (essentially a poll tax.) it was not what I voted for. To be passed as an amendment requires a significant portion of the electorate to agree. It wasn’t until it passed that the back peddling began to find a way to circumvent the vote of the majority. I am furious about this. Absolutely furious. It was not what I agreed to and the shenanigans in my state are shameful. Thanks for sharing I didn’t know that backstory.
