In terms of the purpose, the pinned post in NSBR states it perfectly:
"The old label is there to warn us that someone has resurrected an old thread not to say an active thread is old."
As with other labels however, there is no way to see who has added or removed them, so other than getting rid of the label completely there is nothing I can do.

This should now be resolved - without going into details, it was an IP address issue that had made me suspicious.
I've also been back through everything I'd intentionally left in limbo in the last ~8 months to see if there were others where I might have been similarly overcautious, and I've let some more newbies in as a result. Fingers crossed they really are legit and not spammers.
For context, I would guess that probably 60-70% of all new registrations get flat out banned as known or highly likely spammers. With the rest, it can be hard to tell, so it's inevitable some legit ones won't get approved and some spammers will get past me.
If any do turn out to be spammers, the best thing is to report the post(s), rather than tagging me.

Hello admin I have a friend that created an account here two months ago and it's still waiting for approval. Is there something that needs to be done to trigger those approvals? Thanks. As far as I know I'm pretty up to date with approvals, so I wonder if there was something that made me suspect a possible spammer and not approve them. It wouldn't necessarily be anything they did: if there was a flurry of signups from a particular area, or an IP address that's been recycled from a spammer, etc. Can you pm me the username they were trying to register with, and I can check. If I actively rejected it they'll need to sign up again, or if I just left it in limbo (which I sometimes do as it prevents the same username being registered again) I will be able to resurrect it.

Let's see how it goes. Doesn't stop the need to report spam posts (and even with restricted registration, spammers can still get through, sometimes there are none of the usual "tells" to give them away before they start to post), but I don't really see any downside to having it. There used to be a warning or banner on a thread that was over 3 months old... There still is, but it is based on the most recent post on the thread, so obviously as soon as a spammer bumps a thread it no longer gets the warning banner - they're the ones who see it before they post and they don't care... If I delete the spam post before anyone else posts after it the thread will drop back down, but of course I don't delete regular members' posts even if they're after a spam post, which then keeps the thread 'current'. That's where the old thread label will be most useful I think.

MichyM another option is to click on the cog icon (or the down arrow beside it if you’re using desktop view) at the top left right of the comment then click on “select” then repeat for each comment, and then click reply - it will automatically include the comments you’ve selected, each with its own quote box. Pffft, well what do you know? It only took me 7.5 years to ask and it was THIS easy?!? 😆 Thank you for not making fun of me! Oh awesome, thank you too! admin could this be added to the support board? It's in the tips and tricks thread: 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/567/forum-tips-tricks

Seems I need to drop by to say that I am definitely not missing! I am around a bit less than I used to be: the pandemic has increased my workload, meaning I am working longer hours and it is more intense, so I'm not able to drop in and out of the board throughout the day like I did before. During the week I usually just manage a few minutes at the beginning and/or end of the day to read a few threads under my 'regular pea' guise, and occasionally reply to one or two. With spending all day looking at a screen now I'm WFH full time that's about all I can handle, time notwithstanding. Admin duties are saved for the weekend - like now - when I can give them more attention. That doesn't mean I need help - there were only 3 spam posts this week, hardly swamping the board - just that I'm not getting rid of things as quickly as I may have done in the past, except where it is clear that something needs rapid attention. I very rarely post as 'Admin' anyway - so not seeing me is nothing unusual - just log in to deal with any spam/trolls and check all my other notifications. The best thing for everyone to do with spam threads is report them, note that you've done so so that others can see it's in hand and they don't need to report it again, then ignore. They'll quickly drop off the front page and then they'll be removed within a few days. I do have some Peas I'm in contact with off the board so if I were truly unable to get here for some reason I'd make sure they knew (or my DH would...) I also have a couple of potential options for additional moderators in mind if it becomes any more difficult for me to get here / we have a huge influx of spam - but doing that also has to be balanced against the potential for harm to the board (power to delete spam = power to delete anything, for example) so I have to be very sure of the people I trust. I totally get the concern more generally about people vanishing from the board during this horrid pandemic, but I'm going nowhere

I’ve only just logged on so obviously missed the boat on deleting thread, probably the best thing I can do now is merge the majority of the posts with the other thread and lock what’s left of this one so there is just one place for all the condolences. I’m very sorry for your loss peabay

At the bottom of my signature I have a message that says Tinypic is no longer available. I don’t know what this is or why I have this message. I don’t have any pictures in the signature. My avatar is from a picture I copied so could it be that? My avatar is still working. I’d appreciate your help on this. Thank you. You do have a picture (link) in your signature - maybe an old pea badge? It's the last line of your signature - if you delete that, it will go away.

I was just on the IP recipe section and thought 61redhead . Has anyone heard from her? She hasn't posted in a while and I hope she's doing okay. I just did a little digging around after seeing your post, and unfortunately it appears that she passed away in January. Although I didn't know her personally, there are enough details that match that I am 100% certain

Asking the admin if we could do a thread..... I don't see why not, it's not significantly different to someone posting their Etsy shop in my mind, as long as it is transparent about who is benefiting. Usual warnings would apply - entirely up to those who might want to donate to decide if they believe the recipients are who they say they are etc: caveat emptor, essentially. (Which isn't to say that I have any specific doubts, but it is the internet after all!)

Potentially yes, but at this stage 'a while' would be several years of not even logging in.
Your other account is still active - you should be able to recover your password, just make sure you are using the correct email address.

Five years, y’all. Five. Years. Posting this a little early as I wanted to try be first this time round, so it will be a couple more hours until the shiny new badges start showing up I started writing a whole long post, then realised I was in danger of making it all about me. So instead: Thank you all for being here, for staying here, for making this crazy place a community. Thank you and much love. Happy anniversary Peas.

Oh yikes! Nothing specifically I can suggest to do, as redirects from rogue ads (the most likely source given that this has affected several people) are automatically detected and flagged for removal. Hopefully the fact that it’s been a couple of hours since anyone new posted about this happening means the offending ad has already been removed, but if it reoccurs let me know. I’m going to mention it to PB in any case given the nature of the redirects.
Clearing your cache / history might help in the short term as it could change which ads load for you.
ETA I am advised that hitting the back button after a redirect helps to ensure it is flagged properly, so try to do that if you’re able.

To delete attachments, you will need to be viewing the forum in desktop mode. It would be easier to do this on a tablet or laptop/desktop, on a phone it will be fiddly. If you are in mobile view, scroll to the very bottom of the page and at the right hand edge you should see a "Desktop" link.
Once you're in desktop mode, the best way to find your attachments is to use the full search from the menu at top of the page (between the Gallery and Members links).
In the "with all the words" box under "What to search" enter "attachment"
In the "by at least one of the members" box under "Who to search" enter your own username (not display name). It should show bring up your miniprofile (name, avatar, rank) to select. Choose yourself!
Under "How to search", select "Display result as posts"
There is a limit to the number of search results it will bring up, so if you have a lot you might also want to limit by date in the "When to search" section. Perhaps do a few months at a time.
This will also bring up any posts where you have used/quoted the word attachment but you can of course just skim past those!
To delete the attachments, I suggest right-clicking on the "Edit" button on each post you want to delete from, and opening in a new tab, so that you don't have to keep redoing the search. Hit the "Edit attachments" button towards the top right (above the smiley buttons) and then choose "Delete" against each attachment. Hit "Done" and then scroll to the bottom of the edit box and click "Save changes"
It is a bit laborious but far quicker than me doing it for everyone - the alternative is I delete it all indiscriminately, but I'd prefer to avoid that.
If you know you've never added any attachments, you don't need to do anything!

Well crap!!! Kinda surprised I didn't get any kind of notification about this from Proboards, but there we are.
I'll pin this thread for reference for a little while.
To be clear, the following DO NOT affect our attachment storage:
Photos added via Tapatalk
Photos linked from the gallery
Photos linked from other hosts eg Photobucket, imgur, Flickr etc
Photos in quoted posts

Relentless. Ceaseless. Infuriating. I know the ProBoards Powers That Be don’t want us to install ad blockers, but the alternative is them losing traffic...and possibly losing users. And me having a more productive life. Pfft on that. admin Not a thing I can do about it I'm afraid, and not really anything more that ProBoards can do either. They actively detect redirect ads and block them, but it can take a couple of hours for the block to propagate to all their servers for each ad causing issues. The ads you see are largely determined by your browsing history (along with geographical location) so my first recommendation is to always clear your cache/history after a redirect: makes it less likely that you'll get the same ad again before it can be blocked. Using another browser for a while might help for the same reason. The best alternative to an ad blocker if it's in your budget is to subscribe to PB+ for $2.99 a month, this gives you personal ad-free browsing across all ProBoards forums. Otherwise consider just using an ad-blocker temporarily, ie for a few hours after a redirect so any affected ads can be blocked, then turning it back off. If you do use an ad-blocker permanently, just be aware that it is against the ToS so it is at your own risk.

Does this affect the groups as well? I would assume yes. admin They don't mention groups, so I would guess they are not directly affected, but that's not 100% clear. It does clearly mean that any images in the gallery/group removed as part of the down-sizing for free members would disappear.

The badges are all there ready to go right through to year 10 and I sincerely hope we get to use them So what will happen then? Huh? HUH?
-Will we all freeze at the age we are in 2024? -Will we never die? ...only die if we get banned, so in desperation everybody will attempt “Suicide by Admin?” -Will there be no new threads and we’ll have to keep responding to the same threads FOREVER? (see “Suicide by Admin”) -Will we have to offer the same damn Netflix suggestions over and over? -Will we run out of words in the English language to use in that “Two words; change one” thread and have to resort to...gods help us... three words? ~AmeliaBloomer Feeling a mite dystopian of late Only a mite?! Those are interesting suggestions, but most likely we'll just find a willing victim volunteer to make some more

Oh gosh, I had it in my calendar for tomorrow, lol! It catches me out every year, I guess it didn’t quite sink in what had happened until the 2nd day! I know it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows here, and some days in some ways it seems like we Peas are (rather like a large chunk of the western world) more divided than ever. But I also feel like this past year I have seen some of the most supportive and generous acts on the board too. As long as we keep that balance, I think we'll keep muddling through. The badges are all there ready to go right through to year 10 and I sincerely hope we get to use them Keep talking, keep listening, and most of all keep being the Peas Happy Anniversary!

Admin, If I am putting the photo attached in Tapatalk does it affect your storage? If it does, do I need to delete through the desktop site or Tapatalk or does it matter? I just had to check this myself, uploads through Tapatalk are hosted on the Tapatalk server not Proboards, so they don't take up any space here Dumb question...Does this include avatar pics? Can’t remember how I even set mine up. It’s the only pic I have put on the site. No, avatar pics are unaffected I host all my photos at "imgur"---then I post the links here. Is this the same as " attachments"......In other words, are my piks taking up storage space? Thanks! If you're hosting them they don't take up space so nothing for you to do, attachments are any you upload here .

Ia this searchable on desktop only? I’m going out in a few minutes but I’ll try to start later tonight. Good point, you do need to be on the desktop site - can be done on mobile devices if you switch to the desktop version, although might be a bit fiddly on a phone!

Hi everyone, Just shy of 4 years here (wow!) and we have reached a point where our storage space for attachments is over 90% full. This space has been used almost entirely for pictures. To avoid running out of space we need to delete some of the existing attachments, and I need your help to do this please. I could indiscriminately delete all the oldest ones, but I'd prefer to do it a bit more carefully, and that will take a lot of time for one person. Instead, it would be great if everyone could review their own attachments and delete any that they think are not needed any more. You can do this by using the search: - in ' What to search...with at least one of the words' put the word 'attachment' - in ' When to search...before the date' - I'd suggest Jun 1 2016 should be a good cutoff for this - in ' Who to search...by at least one of the members' put your own username Keep the default to display the results by post, and this should give you a list of all posts you have made which include attachments prior to the selected date (it will also pick up any posts where you've simply used the word attachment, but there's no way to avoid that!) When deciding whether to keep an attachment think about whether anyone is ever likely to look at the thread/post again. If no, consider deleting. If yes, does the attachment/pic add any value - for example a pic of a room with a particular paint colour is more likely to be worth keeping than a meme. If removing the pic will mean the post/thread doesn't make any sense, probably err on the side of leaving it. On GS, I wouldn't expect anyone to remove layouts they've shared. If you're super keen, you could also consider replacing attachments with the same picture hosted elsewhere but I'd consider that above and beyond at this stage (although if you want to, and need help, just shout). I'm hopeful that if most people do this for their older attachments, we will be able to free up enough space to last us for another year at least before we have to repeat this process. I'll of course keep it under review and let you all know if more is required. I would remind you all that if you are able to host your pictures elsewhere rather than uploading (I know the latter is usually quicker/easier!) they won't use our storage space at all, so I'd continue to encourage that as the preferred option. Finally, so I have an idea of how many people have reviewed their attachments, please vote yes on the poll on this thread when you've done yours. Pick either - I had to have a minimum of two answers, but only want people to 'vote' once they've done it please! Saves the thread getting crazy long just with people saying 'done' I'll leave this up for at least a couple of weeks, probably 3 or 4. Thank you all in advance!!
