Pittsburgh is pretty affordable, but the weather is so gloomy. We don't get many sunny days. That's my biggest complaint.

If she did accidentally take her grandfather's medication, what medication did she think she was taking? Oh she might have drank from grandads glass where his saliva might have been residual on it and that's why she tested positive - Russia just thinks we're all idiots and apparently the IOC agrees. Exactly! I agree with you!
And with that line of thinking, we can all save money on medications! Just continue to drink out of the same cup we used when we swallowed our pill.

I have poker straight hair too! My hair stylist says 'people pay big to have hair this straight!' I hate it though! I use a 1" Hot Tools curling iron set to 420 degrees. You have to use some sort of product on your hair to get the curls to stay and then a good holding hairspray. I use this mousse on damp hair then blowdry with round brush: www.ulta.com/p/uplifting-foam-xlsImpprod15941177Curl with hot curling iron (I personally like my ends all the way in the clamp - I know the trend is to leave ends out) and I prefer this hairspray: www.ulta.com/p/firm-style-freeze-shine-super-spray-xlsImpprod10271215Me too! I think you always like what you don't have. My friend with curly hair doesn't like it and I love her curly hair. People used to pay big for perms too not too long ago! I would get perms every 6 months, and I he would have to use 2 perm solutions on my hair. It was so expensive.

I have very fine baby hair and the only way I can get my hair to hold a wave (I’ve never been able to hold actual curls) is to pin the curls after I let them out of the curling iron, spray with hair spray, and let the curls cool while still pinned. After I finish my whole head of hair I let the pins out and brush them out into waves. Great idea! What do you pin the curls with? How long do you keep the pins in?

I have the straightest hair. I would have to get the strongest perm possible just to hold the curl. In college, I always carried my butane "clicker" curling iron with me to touch up my hair in between classes.
I haven't gotten a perm in years. I just pretty much gave up on my hair. It won't hold a curl at all. So I hardly ever fix myself up like I used to. I hope to get some great ideas here!

If you choose to smoke weed or "take your Grandfather's heart medication" then you have chosen to live with the consequences of your actions. The runner chose not to appeal the decision because she knows she broke the rules. ROC/Russia consistently break the rules and then cry when they are caught. They pay off some officials, get a hand slap and then continue doing it. The girl broke the rules, plain and simple. She needs to be held accountable. She won't die from not competing. She will get over it and be back in the next Olympics. She is young enough. Anyone who believes that she got the positive test from drinking from her grandfather's glass is really stupid. All the other athletes shouldn't be penalized because a select few think that the rules don't apply to them. What about the harm it is causing all the other athletes? I don't see how this a black or white issue. It is an issue of bribing officials. Exactly!

I don't like staying in anyone elses home. Food. I am a picky eater. I am NOT eating anything I don't like. I have texture issues, taste issues, visual issues. I hate being put on the spot, because a hostess cooks something to show off thier hostess skills and culinary skills, and I won't eat it. I hate when a "scene" is made about my eating or lack thereof. I hate when someone says "would it kill you to try a bite?" My answer is always "Yes, it might, because you making a scene and issue about it and that causes me stress and anxiety...that could make my blood pressure go up, I could have a heart attack or stroke". I am a night owl, so I stay up late. I always feel like I have to go to bed early (9:00pm-11:00pm), not my usual 1:00am-ish.....then I lay there awake for hours. I feel like I have to be up early, and not sleep in. I have sleep anxiety, and like to sleep with my weighted blanket and body pillow (which I bring with me, if possible), some people get offended and act like I think their pillow or blanket isn't good enough. If I am traveling somewhere, I want to do and see what I want to see, at my own pace. I do not like having a strictly scheduled itinerary or seeing thing that others love and think I should see, but I have no interest in. Edited to add... I have noise sensory isues. Staying with someone who has the TV on all the time, is too much for me. There is never any quiet. Sometimes, I feel like putting myself and my wellbeing first comes across and is perceived as "she is difficult, high maintenance and stubborn". When it's more like.....I've conceded and been miserable far too much in the past. Now I stand up for myself and put my wellbeing first. I prefer to stay in a hotel, it's more comfortable for me and my wellbeing. I prefer to eat out, because I don't have to worry about upsetting the hostess when I say no thank you to their food. When I stay in a hotel, I am able to say "I am planning to do this, that and that...if you want to join me, meet me there, etc..". This sounds pretty much like why I don't like staying with anyone! This is perfect, I have the same concerns.
We didn't go to my inlaws, then parents for the holidays this year or last year (covid last year and disabled dog/nurse daughter worked this year). I didn't feel guilty at all, but more like it was probably a relief for them not to have to worry about hosting and feeding 5 of us for Christmas. But it looks like we will be stuck traveling for the holidays next year as our daughter took a new nursing job and has all holidays off.

How do they think I'm going to carry all these loose items into the house if they're not in a bag? I would have tossed the coriander in my purse/tote bag, and just carried the other two items in my arms. The baggers will ask if I want certain bulky items (dog food, drink 6 packs, jug of laundry detergent, etc) in bags. Usually I say no as it is just easier to grab them and put them where they belong at home. No need to have another bag to toss. My vent is with how they pack the bags. They tend to really load up the bags to use as few as possible. However, with arthritis in my hands it's a challenge to lift them at times. And apparently no one has ever instructed them on the proper way to bag bananas, tomatoes and other soft produce (hint, they don't go in the bottom or middle of a bag, and not in the bag with the frozen foods). I've turned into a cranky old woman directing them to spread out the weight and not to bruise my bananas! Unfortunately the store I prefer for produce/fruit is the only one around here that doesn't have self checkout, otherwise I'd use it. I feel like the plastic bags at our Walmart and Target are so thin now, that some items poke a hole in the bag. Here too they put as much in the bag as possible. I try to bag myself as I go to self checkout most every time.

I would never do that to find someone to watch my kids. My friends and I helped each other our and we got recommendations from each other, or asked the boys and girls in our neighborhood (we have a "teen job list' - babysitting, yard work, etc.) when we needed a babysitter. I wouldn't even hire a stranger to let my dog out.
Our nextdoor had a woman ask for someone to watch her kids when she and her husband traveled together for work trips. She listed the 3 trips (each a week long). She wasn't going to pay the babysitter because he/she was getting a "free" trip out of it! I don't think anyone offered to do it.

I'm wondering if you might have dyshidrotic hydrosis AKA dyshidrotic eczema since the cracks are on the palm side. Do the cracks start with little blisters? Bag balm is so helpful because it moisturizing and also is an antiseptic. That's really helpful for healing those cracks. No blisters just cracks.
I bought Kerasol, Bag Balm, Flexitol and Liquid Band-aid because of the recommendations! I am trying everything!

I only feel comfortable staying at my parents or inlaws house. But I would always love to stay at a hotel but spend time visiting at their houses. There are 5 of us, and I think it's a lot to ask of our parents. I get stressed just having my parents stay at our house for the weekend (we are all out of town from each other). Planning meals is what is hard for me. So I can't imagine them having to worry about feeding the 5 of us! If money wasn't an issue, I would always prefer a hotel over staying at others house.
My husband's cousin used to live in Boca Raton and we would visit and stay with her and her husband. I absolutely felt more comfortable there and I didn't know them well. But they treated me like I was just as much family as my husband and they were so welcoming. I would have to say, they are the only ones I like staying with. We would take them out for every dinner and fend for ourselves for breakfast and lunch. We would spend the day at the beach, so we weren't in their way from 9:00am-6:00pm

DH's hands crack something fierce in the winter. He used to find that lanolin helped. We bought the tubes meant for breastfeeding mothers. But he became vegan years ago and he won't use it anymore. It's absolutely his choice, of course, but as someone who loves him, It pains me a bit that he has made this choice, since I know for him, the lanolin worked better than the options he has tried since then. But again, I'm sure I make plenty of choices he wishes I would not as well. So now I just am thankful that we're getting closer and closer to spring. Thanks, I will have to look for lanolin.
I understand what you are saying. I am in so much pain, it would be hard to resist something that worked. I hope he finds something that helps and works as well as lanolin.

I call it "winter thumb." I seem most prone to it on the thumb of my right hand although I have had it on other fingertips as well. I put on lotion every time I wash hands anyway, so winter thumb takes more drastic measures. I keep the O'Keefe's next to my chair so I can put a dab in my palm and then I just gently massage the thumb (or other finger) into it repeatedly. That generally takes care of it. I put a urea-based cream on my feet every night so I also work that into the cracks really good when they appear in winter. Me too, the right hand most of the time!

I use super glue on the cracks. The pain is from the crack spreading open. Once sealed closed, takes a couple of days & all better. After the glue, I use a good hand lotion & at night just use O'Keefes on my hands. Since I learned that trick...so much better. Good Luck with whatever you try. Finger cracks are painful! What super glue do you use?

If you haven't already, I highly suggest seeing a dermatologist. I have extremely sensitive skin and it doesn't take much to make my hands distressed. For daily maintenance I use Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. When they are cracked and burning (feels like they are on fire!) I have a prescription steroid cream I can use that works miracles. If they are really dry, but not on yet on "fire", I'll use Aquafor with socks. For washing my hands, I have found that L'Occitane Lavender Shea Butter Liquid Hand Soap works the best for my skin. I'm sensitive to smells and while it is scented I can tolerate it (but don't care for it). I find most hands soaps are too fragranced for my nose. I've tried different variations of Softsoap, Dove, Soapbox, Method, Mrs. Meyer's, Puracy, J.R. Watkins, etc. I hope you find what works for you. We use our hands all day, every day, so having happy hands is important! There is a 5 month wait to see a dermatologist in our area, so frustrating. I will look for the L'ocitane soap. I can't use Bath and Body Works soap, and I love it! But I can usually use it in the summer when my hands are a bit better.

No, only one of the 5 of us had covid. My daughter had it in Nov. 2020. The only time at school they had mask off is lunch, and the girl who sits next to her had it, then my daughter got it. The girl worked at a nursing home that had many cases.
I do know of one person in my family and friend group that got it after being vaccinated. It was in the summer.

Some great suggestions here! I have the same issue in the winter since I live in a very dry climate that gets cold. I do the Aquaphor and bandaids at night method, with Neutragena Norwegian Hand Cream on the parts of my hands not covered by bandaids. I also don't wait for a crack to completely form - if I feel like a crack is forming I start the Aquaphor and bandaids that night. Due to my job I wash my hands a lot every day and one thing I've found that helps with the dryness and cracking is to use hand lotion right after I wash my hands every single time. I find that this helps quite a bit. I keep hand lotion by all of the sinks in my house and I have some at my desk at work. It's when I get too busy and don't apply hand lotion religiously that I find my hands starting to crack. Yes I for sure need to put lotion on every time I wash my hands. I put a new lotion bottle up this week! I am guilty of not doing the band aids when they heal, then I pay for it. I am off to Walmart later to get many of these recommendations! I forgot about the norwegian hand ceam. I used to have it and liked it. Thanks for the recommendations!

I have similar issues with my fingertip near the corners of the nail. As much as it hurts, I use a file and file the cracked area on the fingertip down to where the dead skin is almost gone and the open area is closer to the surface. Once this is done, to me it helps relieve the pressure the dead skin is putting on the opening and makes it hurt a lot less! Then, also painful for a moment, I cover the open area with New Skin Liquid Bandage. Once the sting stops, you're good to go! I make sure to put it on the area several times a day until the spot is healed. And bless you for taking such good care of your GSD! <3 Thanks so much! We are fortunate that I don't work and can care for her all day. Degenerative mylopathy is a very sad genetic disease in dogs (especially German Shepherds).
I will try your suggestions, thanks! I also have a permanent crack on one toe, and I have filed that area and it helps. I never considered trying on my fingers, but now I will. I may have New Skin Liquid Bandage in our first aid kit. My dad said he used blistex on his finger cracks as it's recommended for cracked lips.

My husband has something similar (yours sounds worse). Gloves and lotion every night. He uses skin glue when the cracks are deep and bleed. He uses a product called Mane N Tail Hoofmaker. It was for horses but people that applied it noticed their skin and nails improving. It helps but the cracks still appear if he lets up just a bit or treats his skin roughly (like carrying wood without gloves). Yes, it's so frustrating because if I forget the band aids or gloves on night, they start to crack again. It the weather is above 70, it helps so much. Where does he get the skin glue?

My friend has the same problem - I bought her some O'Keefe's Hand Cream and it worked for her. She says it was a lifesaver and always keeps it on hand now. I found it at Walmart. I have been using that for a few years! I does work well, and the backs of my hands have no problems at all (just the insides). I recommended O'Keefe's to my parents and my kids use it too. I have it in my car, and throughout the house!

I have extremely dry skin with cracks at the tips of most fingers at the top of my nails. I sleep with bandaids and aquaphor or neosporin every night. Also, aquaphor and gloves every night. They are so painful that I take Advil for the pain. It's crazy that such tiny cracks are extremely painful. All cracks are on the palm/fingers on the inside not outside (meaning no cracks on knuckles or back of hands).
Does anyone have this problem and any recommendations of what helped?
I do wash my hands all day long. I have a disabled German Shepherd that has lots of accidents, so constantly cleaning up, lifting her with her harness to take her outside. So I am doing laundry and washing my hands all day. I try to wear gloves but often I have to move fast and can't get them on. I use softsoap aloe very moisturizing soap.

I listen to FM radio. I have never in my life come across a radiothon. It must not be a national thing. Me either.
But when we got our van and got sirius xm radio, I stopped listening to regular radio. They are always having commercials, and that's about it. I don't miss it at all, even though I no longer know what songs are popular!
