I think it's cute that they call it The Birds and the Bees, and there is not one single bird in the whole dang reveal but plenty of bees!

I'm comfortable with a moderate amount of stress, but prolonged high levels of stress really put me on my ass. I used to work in a pedi ER and there were days when I just couldn't anymore. Now that I'm out of that environment, my BP and blood sugar levels have gotten better and I don't feel so drained all the time.

Anybody remember Stephanie Baxter? On my trips down memory lane (which has me do inspired! I've made a ton of stuff after not crafting for close to a couple years), I was reminded of her, but all of her online presences are gone.
Edit: nm, I found her and she's doing her thing.
Am I the only weirdo here that worries that random strangers have died or fallen ill? I've spent my morning making sure all my scrappy ladies are okay. That's weird, right?

When I was in elementary school here in Houston, TX, we went through a milk pouch phase. Instead of the half pint cartons, we would get a pouch of milk and a small straw, which we would pierce through the bag like a Capri Sun. It was a short lived change, maybe two or three years.

Poor FIL. My heart hurts for him. Have you thought about places like Snap Kitchen or Dream Dinners? They are meal peep places that take all of the guess work out for you. Just reheat and eat! If not, I agree with the idea already mentioned to go with the basics: how to pan cook a chicken breast, how to do a roast chicken, etc. There are lots of good recipes out there (pioneer woman has lots of man-tested man-approved recipes I can vouch for) that maybe he can prepare, then freeze or refrigerate and use as leftovers for a couple days. Versatile things like roast chicken, pot roast, ground beef spaghetti sauce, chili, etc., lend themselves very well to repurposing in other meals.

Plants though. They enter my space and immediately start writing their little plant wills because they know it ain't going to happen. This. I feel like the darn things won't even give me a CHANCE! Like there is something in the air that signals end of life messages to my pants.

was it easy? I'd be tempted to buy it because, you know, thumb of death, but if you found it easy enough, I'd love to give it a try! Very easy! I bought a neat apothecary jar at home goods. They had all of the supplies at the gardening place... basically a layer of rock (might have had charcoal in it too maybe? It has been a few years), dirt (a cork on a skewer to pack it good), a few tiny moisture loving plants.... added the water, put the lid on and left it in a bright (but not direct sun) place. Every now and then I would open it us to remove any spent blooms or leaves and give it a little water if needed. That was it. Longest I have kept anything alive besides my kids and pets. You should check your library for the book "The New Terrarium" by Tovah Martin. Lots of beautiful pictures and information. You can even put a cloche over some already potted plants too. Talking about this kinda makes me want to start another one... except that my youngest learned to climb up on the table and counters recently. Might need to wait a bit longer or she could sabotage it. thanks for taking the time to share this with me! I'll have to check out that book! Any excuse to go to the bookstore is always a win for me

This tale from years ago might cheer you up. I used to go to a friends house and always admired the beautiful large Maidenhair Fern in her bathroom. I tried to grow those ferns but they always died after a few months, even though everything else I grew did ok. After loosing yet another fern I asked her what was the secret to growing it so large. She said that they were so big because every time one died she bought another large plant to replace it, that was her little indulgence in life. What a let down. Now THIS sounds like my kinda gardening!

A terrarium. I have an almost black thumb... like they die a long slow lingering death just to torture me. When these became popular again a few years ago, I went to a class at a local garden center and made one. I kept the thing alive and looking fantastic for almost a year with just rotating it and adding a little water & fresh air very rarely. I finally got tired of looking at it once the plants started to grow and get a little unruly, but I am sure it would have kept going even longer. You can even find them already assembled some places around here, but they aren't difficult to do yourself either. was it easy? I'd be tempted to buy it because, you know, thumb of death, but if you found it easy enough, I'd love to give it a try!

Another plant you might try is mother-in-law's tongue or snake plant. I've had mine for years, but before I got it, it survived bare root in a walmart bag on my bff's back porch for an entire season before I got it. It looked like shit for a year (because I had to trim the dead off), but it's thriving now even after going MONTHS without water at times because it's tucked into a corner of the house where I forget about it. Spider plants are also relatively easy to grow and they're a good air purifier. They say succulents are easy to grow, but that's not been my experience (and I have a pretty green thumb), I tend to over water them or they get all weird and "leggy" on me. My mom has the greenest thumb of anyone I know and she cannot keep a succulent or a cactus alive. That's really pretty! Maybe that will be my next victim.

I have a black thumb because I've killed a peace lilly.... I too have killed the unkillable plant. And of course the darn thing came from a funeral, so added guilt for its demise omg, so wrong... LOL

Over-watering is usually the culprit. Second is over-reacting to normal plant adjustments to being in a new location. Third is putting plants where they are in direct sun all the time and they are near glass so they are getting "cooked" by all that intense light. I basically neglect my plants, I water them only when they look "droopy" and I let them get root bound. About once a year, I put a little fresh potting soil around the top--about 3/4 cup only. About once every 10 years, I repot them into a pot that is only about an inch wider. I've had a peace lily for 21 years. Try a peace lily. WOW! That's longer than most pets! I definitely might have overreacted to my poor cactus, but it started turning to jelly from the inside out and it just seemed very strange that it died.

Like, necrotic black thumb. I kill everything that I bring into the house. I don't understand this, because every woman in my family has a knack for gardening. I, on the other hand, managed to kill a cactus and a couple of really cute succulents in a matter of like, two or three days? My bf bought them for me and we put them in a cute little planter with rocks and gave them plenty of sun, and I gave them maybe two tablespoons of water once they were put into the planter, and they died. Houseplants have all gone the same way, whether they were in the original container or transplanted to a different container, nothing I bring into my house survives. It's ridiculous. So my question is... what can I keep as a house plant that I won't kill, and what specific pieces of advice do you have for me for not killing that particular plant? I just want ONE THING to survive.
Note: I live in Houston, TX, where it's warm/hot, there's usually lots of sunshine, and lots of humidity. I also have two dogs, so nothing poisonous in case they decide it looks like a snack.

Off topic, but do any of yall wanna take a trip down memory lane? studiocalico.typepad.com/Back in the day when the kits were better and FULLER, everything was so INSPIRING, and the blog was actually worth following. My heart kind of ached looking through these old posts. I miss it. You should have left that on the MB over there too. The new folks who don't understand what the old folks have to complain about would be blown away... I just wonder how much of it is nostalgia vs. the content actually being BETTER. All said and done, they keep a lot of the same type of content available (sketch sunday, member spotlight, weekly challenge, etc.), but for some reason it just feels better. I don't know if that's just the shift of the scrapbook industry as a whole (there's so much minimalism nowadays that by comparison, everything else looks colorful, bright, and fun), or if it is the changing aesthetic of SC as a club, or if it is just in our heads as the golden era of papercrafting. The old design team is pretty much gone and out of the hobby entirely (or at least they're not posting anymore on blogs or social media). That being said, I don't think anyone at SC who is newer would care, to be honest.

Before you invest in a Keurig, may I please encourage you to check out the Starbucks Verismo. If you can, do a side by side taste test, and you'll notice a huge difference in taste and quality, not to mention functionality and versatility. I've had both, and it's hands down no contest Verismo for the win by a wide margin.
If you do decide to go with keurig, I like the Dunkin K cups, as well as Gevalia.

I could see how it could be a fun trip I'm single and sometimes I get to go on holidays with friends and some years depending on their holidays I may not be able to take time off work or they may not be able to afford a holiday some years. That can be a hard part for me of being single It could definitely be a holiday I could go on alone However if I did have a partner I may prefer to have a weekend away with them. I agree with this as a single girl, but even with that argument in mind, $500 is still a crazy amount of money for a lunch and a crop.

As for getting news from Facebook...i think they should have broken that down a little bit. There is a big difference between seeing an article from a reputable news site on Facebook, and seeing a meme that some internet troll created and taking it as fact. agree. I get 90% of my news from Facebook, but it's posts from NPR, CNN, WaPo, NYT, local news outlets, trusted reporters, etc. It's pretty much replaced my RSS readers for news.

So happy to be viewing the shit show in my country from a safe distance north of the border. Let me know if you need a sponsor for immigrating. Getting closer every day to making legitimate plans to do just that. I've always loved the idea of going to Canada, and Trump just seems like the right kind of push I need...
