How do you teach a kid to swallow a pill? Say,"OK, honey. Let's go to the doctor and get the shot." worked on my kids. LOL, brilliant!

Put it in a piece of cheese and they'll eat it right up!
No wait, that's dogs.
I never had a problem with pills. You just swallow them. My sister would cry and cry. It would make our dad so mad. Eventually she just got over it, but not without difficulty.
I would try getting them to swallow candy or something first. Get some tic tacs or something and make a game out of it. Then slip them the pill when they're unawares. Or do the food trick! If it works on my stubborn dog, it might work on a stubborn kid... not to be offensive.
Good luck!

I would approach it like, "here is the stuff you can use, here are the basic tools you will need, measure twice cut once, and let me know if you have any questions." Then let her do whatever she wants. If she wants more direction, she will ask for it, but she won't be as inclined to tell you you're helicopter scrapping.

He went so far as to open the front door and chase her out this morning. That's his "solution." I had to go down the street and round her up. How dare he. I would have lost my shit.

Ours are also crated when we're not home and at night. This happened after DH let them out of the crate this morning and while he was in the bathroom and I was in the bedroom doing my yoga video. Ouch. That really sucks, then. I can imagine how frustrated I would be.

We have the same exact problem. My dog counter surfs when we are not home, his dog chews. Mine's a jack russell, so really east to train, but impossible to correct. As a result, we shut all doors behind us, leave the dogs in the common areas of the house only, and if we leave the house, they go to their kennels. Overall, they are really good boys, but they have that separation anxiety I guess. They never do bad things when we are watching.

It would be kind of shitty in this town to never tip your driver. It's too large and trafficky. Most people I have talked to about it say that they do tip. In my city the price of the same ride changes upon the time of the day. Rush hour is one price. A Saturday morning ride is double what a Sunday night right is. So they are basing prices on supply and demand. Surges are gone. We do too, but to be honest, traffic is just a thing here. Our rush hour is from 530am-930am, and 315pm-7pm. And not your average slow traffic, either. I'm talkimg gridlock. It's awful here.

I might be inclined to agree. I live in Houston, TX, which is enormous and crowded. My 6 mile uber ride inside the city took about 25 minutes, and that is literally around the corner. My commute now that i am in the suburbs is about 20 minutes to get 19 miles (but I leave waaayyy ahead of rush hour. If I get stuck in that traffic, the time goes up over an hour). It would be kind of shitty in this town to never tip your driver. It's too large and trafficky. Most people I have talked to about it say that they do tip. Then call me sh&tty bc i live there too and never tip. I don't know anyone who does. But I live inside the loop and the longest Uber I've ever taken aside from airport trips was maybe 15 minutes if I there was a train. I can understand if you're just going a few miles. I lived ITL and commuted to TMC, so I get it, but even that 6 miles still took 25 minutes. To each their own, though. It is meant to be a tipless service. Sorry that I was offensive, I didn't mean to be.

Chaplin's City Lights is one of my favorites. Notorious is my favorite Hitchcock film, along with The Birds. Can't explore classic films without watching Casablanca. West Side Story Sabrina The Way We Were Love Story Singing in the Rain Wizard of Oz Disney classics (lady and the tramp, fantasia, 101 dalmations, aristocats, etc) Mr. Smith goes to Washington (particularly useful given our current events) Classic Romeo and Juliet, but she'll probably get this at school later The Color Purple (strong badass females) Joy Luck Club (also strong females, great mother daughter themes) Gone with the Wind

This...a thousand times this..... Find a financial adviser you trust and who is willing to sit down with you and explain the basics to you. Start slowly and do some reading on your own (The Investing for Dummies book is easy to understand) and write down questions you might have. Buying individual stocks is not the place to start on your investment journey. Thanks for the book recommendation, I will go out today and try to find it.

A discount brokerage like Vanguard or Fidelity is easy and accessible and would be where I'd go. I've used Vanguard for years and like them a lot. Low fees, easy to do business with. However, I would caution you about individual stock investing. For most people, especially those who are inexperienced in investing, mutual funds (which hold a variety of different securities in them) are a better match, as it minimizes your risk. I'll see if I can find a good introduction to investing. I know my retirement accounts are both at Fidelity. I will check out Vanguard. I feel young enough to maybe take a risk (particularly one that seems less risky, like Starbucks). Rumor has it that the Bux is getting ready to acquire Panera. I think that could breathe some life into their stale stocks.

Uber FAQ says it is a cashless experience, let's keep it that way. I learned here that tipping Uber drivers does seem to differ drastically depending on the state/city. Uber was my primary ride to work when my s.o. and I were sharing a car. My uber was between $10-12 depending on traffic. I always tipped, except twice when I just didn't have any cash at all. I think it is more of an expectation than not. As long as I got there in a safe and timely fashion, I was happy and grateful!

Those iced teas you described sound delicious! Is the white tea a light green color? A car in front of me the other day got a very light colored iced drink with strawberries in it that looked really good. I was going to ask the barista what it was, but thought it might be too stalkerish. Lol No, you should definitely ask! If I had to guess, it was probably the strawberry acai refresher, since that's the drink that the strawberries are intended for. Try it flat or sparkling! There's lots of fun ways to customize that drink. You can try the "pink drink," which is strawberry acai refresher (SAR) with coconut milk instead of water. Or the Capri Sun, which is SAR with lemonade instead of water, and mango flavoring (caution because this drink is pretty sweet, so I like to do half SAR and half green tea base to cut some of the sugar). People are trying this new drink with half of a pink drink, and half of a green tea latte, and layering it... it's pretty but does not taste the best, imo. Everyone should be a barista at least once in their life.

Starbucks Barista here!
White tea is sooooo gooooood! Very little caffeine (completely safe for pregnant women), it has the most antioxidants compared to other varieties. The flavor is very mild. I like it with half of the sweetener (we use liquid cane sugar to sweeten) and one pump of peach syrup. Or, half the sweetener and a scoop of either strawberries or blackberries, shaken. Peach is tops, though. If you've ever had Joy tea at Christmas time, it tastes close to that, but less strong.
Blonde espresso is a different roast. Someone above me nailed the description pretty well, that it is roasted less and has a brighter, more acidic flavor. If you like breakfast blends or coffee-shop blends of coffee, this is a good one to try! That being said, if you try it in your caramel macchiatto, you almost definitely will not notice it. The difference is only really noticeable if you drink just the shots, or an americano, or something that doesn't cover up the flavor too much. Pro-tip: the darker the roast, the less caffeine it has, so blonde roast (which is processed the least) is your best bet to maximize the pep in your morning cuppa. Same goes for the coffee.

The starting salaries are not that much higher than when I graduated 20+ years ago but the cost is 10x. (rant over - and I don't even have kids!) I don't know how much higher tuition rates can climb before we start seeing most people priced out of an education. I know at this rate, my (hypothetical) kids will never get to go.

It's hard to receive care from a doc you can't trust. You're literally putting your life in their hands!
Our family GP misdiagnosed my dad's heart attack. He was on his way home from the office and turned around to go straight to the ER. He was having a massive MI. Then, he misdiagnosed his cancer. When he got a second opinion, he was already stage 4. Needless to say, we don't see that physician anymore.

Have you read any of Dave Ramsey's books? They were literally life savers for us. Good, practical information. SaveSaveHe's the guy that says tackle low debts and then roll over the payment to the next as you pay them off, right? Sooooo...apparently I was doing this without even realizing it was a 'thing' and only found out about his approach when I was about done paying off my husband's car early (by the time I got to putting extra money on his car, I was able to more than double the payment every month doing it this way) and had been doing it for years just because it made sense, lol! I took a different approach with my student loans, though. At first, I was just making extra payments not realizing I could target specific ones. When I finally discovered that I could (I am still upset about the missed opportunity to save more interest because I didn't realize it sooner), I targeted my highest balance ones first. My interest rate was 3x that of my lower balance first 2 year loans and more of my required payment was already going to them because of the balance owed and the higher interest rate, so I was definitely paying more than 3x interest because of the balance on those ones. I paid those off year by year and when I got to the first 2 year loans where my interest rate was like 2.2%, I was paying under $5 a month in interest. There was a point where my balance was HALF of what I owed on my van and I was paying 4-5x the amount of interest on it than I was on my van because of the higher balance & interest rate year 3-5 loans. One of the happiest days of my life was getting rid of those loans. You can do a happy dance when you pay off a vehicle, but at the end of the day, there is still repair and maintenance that goes into owning a vehicle...once my loans were gone, they were GONE FOR GOOD! see? Didn't know you could do this! I'm gonna call Navient and ask about this! Thanks!!

interesting.... I wish there were more personal finance resources that were simple and smart like this. I might be in much less of a mess if I'd had better working knowledge. It's a lot harder to climb out of a hole than it is to work on staying out of one. Have you read any of Dave Ramsey's books? They were literally life savers for us. Good, practical information. scrapaddict702 I know this isn't a money thread, but I want to encourage you to pay even just one extra payment a year on your house (and have it go directly to the principle). It will help cut the years off your mortgage! interesting.... I wish there were more personal finance resources that were simple and smart like this. Cute ad. Even if I had all the video clips, I don't have the skills to do the cute titles and background music & sounds, and knit them all together. I like some of the titles, though. As a mom, I was way too busy to even get photos of most of my kids' firsts. As a gramma, I am scrapping as many of the dgk's as I have photos for. Some of those titles might just come in handy! I think the concept would translate really well into scrapbook pages! The ideas behind the "firsts" are pretty cute and I think would be great starting points for some thoughtful journaling. Can I just say that I wish I could be a grandma right now?
