So I generally am not uptight about this kind of thing at all, and roll my eyes when people get all bent about stupid crap, but even I think that is rude af.

I use this recipe and it comes out perfect, rich, and creamy every single time. It's super quick, and I find a little lighter than some of the other recipes I've tried. Simple is best, usually. I would say I've cooked from this template about a dozen times now. Foolproof.

goldenblind221 Are there any unsafe/high crime areas we should avoid in Houston? We are from a suburb of Memphis, and we avoid going into certain parts of the city here. I will have to screenshot your post because half our trip will be in Houston and it will be our first time there. We know NOTHING about Houston! Thank you so much for taking the time to post your super-informative response. I wasn't considering the museum district because the kids are so young, but maybe it will be age-appropriate for them after all. I appreciate it so much! http://instagram.com/p/BQb7qPFhzKZ Stay in the blue area (or further west down I-10) if you can. Don't stay in the red areas. Houston is incredibly diverse, so you're going to see... a lot fewer caucasians than you are used to. Don't let that freak you out. I only say that because I often hear that it can be a culture shock from people who have recently moved down here. You are also going to have to budget lots of gas money and travel time because it's an enormous place and you will drive. Just try not to be on the road between 3:30pm and 7:30pm, because that is rush hour, and the city becomes a very angry parking lot. Houston drivers are the worst, and I apologize in advance, because it is very off putting. Try to plan to be occupied during that time if you can. Again, message me or tag me if you need more help! I hope you enjoy your trip and will help you make that happen in any way I can!

I think most of it depends... all of what I would consider "touristy" areas are more likely to be fine. There are very few places I would not be comfortable. I would stay away from the airports. Lemme make a map....

Crate Paper Restoration. As of late I am really feeling the love for some of the older distressed papers in my stash. I was perusing the message board of an older Shimelle class and saw mention of Crate Paper Random, googled it, and fell in love...I managed to track some of that down, but in my hunt saw Restoration. I would love to have some of it in my stash but it appears there is no significant amount of it anywhere. I got my hopes up when I saw that AC sells digital Crate Paper designs, and thought I could get the papers printed, but sadly Restoration is not one of the lines. Also Sassafras Lass Sunshine Broadcast. This is another collection that is entirely missing off the face of the earth. Honestly, there are so many Sassafras lines that I would like to have...and the foldies. Pre-AC Crate was THE BEST! All of these collections are from when I FIRST got into scrapbooking 7 or so years ago. I personally don't think it's been the same ever since.

Yeah, I guess that does sound a little bleak, huh? I guess I should change that to say, I'm noticing that things are slowly starting to get better.

LOL I can't believe this thread has slipped off the front page for the first time I think? Does that mean it's been more than 24 hours without drama? goldenblind221 good to see you again. How are things with you? Thanks. Things are still kinda the same. Dad's doing his thing trying to kick cancer's ass and take names, Mom had a heart attack (!) and is recovering well (if not back to her old bad habits, unfortunately), I'm still looking for a job (I can't believe I'm saying that since it's been almost 5 months, thank GOD for my little Starbucks job), my ex and I are still living together but it has been a very peaceful co-existence. Life has thrown a lot at me in the last year, so I was really grateful for the symbolic changing of the guard in 2017. So far it's been better. Doing a lot of soul searching, trying to figure out the kind of person I want to be. Optimism takes work, and being hopeful takes work. It's been really hard trying to work against this depressive stage, but I'm trying every day and slowly winning that war, I think. I just really want to find a job.

Gossamer Blue "on my desk" - I never got my hands on any of it! When I found out about it, it had pretty much sold out entirely. "Gramercy Road" as well.

So I grabbed a couple of the kits during Last Call, just got them today. I have to say, I really love them. I know we're all anti-SC, and they definitely aren't what they used to be, but I guess every now and then, they put out a great kit. Like, I gasped when I was going through Story Board. It knocked my socks off. I might have even paid full price for it. Maybe.
That being said, I also got the Confidant main kit with the $5 code (can't believe I haven't used it until this month), and it's way less cool. I think I'll still get some use out of it, though.

Lots to do in Houston! For food, you MUST check out Killens BBQ in Pearland, TX (suburb). It's renowned as one of the absolute best in the state, but you must get there early because it does sell out. Since you have kiddos, I would also recommend checking out either Kemah Boardwalk or Galveston's Pleasure Pier. I like Kemah, personally, but both have cute little boardwalk games and rides for the kids. Down the street from Kemah is the NASA Space Center, and that would also be fun for the kids. We're home to some world class museums, including MFAH, the Children's Museum, Museum of Natural science, the Holocaust Museum, the Menil/ Rothko Chapel, and loads more. On Thursdays, most of the museums are free. The Houston Zoo is also located in the museum district. For shopping, you can't go wrong with the Houston Galleria, where you'll find high end designer stores, a brand new Shake Shack, and lots of fine dining. I like Memorial City mall, which has your usual big mall stores, a small ice skating rink, movie theater, a big kids jungle gym, and it is adjacent to City Centre, which is an outdoor mall with other great shops (and really good coffee and desserts at a place called Sweet). Since you said you guys were into desserts, one of my favorite places to go is Chocolate Factory on West Alabama. I would also check out Central Market and the Highland Village shopping area. Central Market is Houston's foodie favorite with lots of unique culinary finds and a really great bakery. Some of my favorite places for coffee are Common Bond (in the Montrose neighborhood, lots of thrifting and antiquing), Stumptown (in Houston's historic Heights neighborhood, lots of boutique shopping and antiques), Minuti (in midtown, where you should also check out Fluff bake bar), and if I may recommend some bubble tea (lots of great places). There are far too many great restaurants on every kind of budget. If you want more personal recommendations, please reach out to me and I would be happy to make some. I'm Houston born, raised, and proud. I live like a tourist in this town and have a LOT of ideas for people coming in based on their time, location, and budget. The only thing I wish I could help more with is crafting. In this town, there isn't much.

Were the storyboard kits in the sale the last time? I can't remember. I don't think so. I snatched one up today. I was too late to get a couple of the other SB kits. Those were the first ones to sell out. Imagine that. Scrapbook kits on a scrapbook shop website selling out before the myriad other kits that are vaguely paper crafty.

I feel gross after reading all the ass kissing that was going on over there. 4 people popped on, asking what the discount code was and then left. Its was kinda funny. And in case anyone actually wants to shop there, here is the code. View Attachment(click on it to make it larger) nevermind, mom had me covered. Too bad it's dead. I'm not paying $10 to ship.

New changes on Preview/Reveal. Seem big to me, but I never understood the complicated calendar over there so take that w/a grain. Wondering your thoughts, SC Peas and former SC Peas. Didn't they move sneaks a week further out in the month because too many people, particularly internationals, said they had barely received their kits and it just felt too soon? They were already peddling their next box before anyone even got a chance to use the current month. That change seems to have been pretty recent. As convoluted as it is, it seems like this updated calendar doesn't really take into account subbers requests at all. Now as soon as your order is transmitted, they're already pushing the NEW! SHINY! kits out onto everyone. It's just tacky.

I find it interesting that she went from being employed by SC, left abruptly, and is now on the CT for one of their larger competitors. Really? Gossamer Blue is a large competitor? I was under the impression they were struggling (not as badly as Scraptastic, but still) and that the likes of Cocoa Daisy was doing a lot better. Along the lines of my last comment, no snark meant at all...I'm legitimately curious why you think that. I think Cocoa Daisy is definitely more competitive than GB, but I would say that GB is more competitive than others like Felicity Jane or Scraptastic. When I first started looking at alternative clubs, GB was one that was recommended to me by a bunch of folks. I guess that word of mouth translated to me as competitiveness.

All of her stuff is too busy for my taste. I'm not one who wants every single pocket to look like its own SB layout. I opened the link and went "wow". Muy busy, mucho colours (and super thick acrylic pieces). I forgot how all over the place her PL pages are. It's a little ironic considering how minimalist and soft-coloured her cards for that BPC class (Me/You/Us Abridged) were (and they're - Me and Us - still available... dayum, how hopeful were SC with the hypothetical success of her class?). different Cathy, I think.

Ooo, tough decision. I used to have this problem back when Studio Calico used to design their kits with a mix of designers and exclusives. I also had an Archivers near me that I could spend a LOT of time and money in. I think it depends on how you like to scrap. I really like cohesiveness, so playing with a collection really worked for me, and I liked to collect as much of them as I could. It's also the reason I really liked SC kits. They did all of the curating and made everything match and look great so I didn't have to try to mix up a bunch of my stash. If you like to pick out bits and pieces and try to mix it up to get a fresh, eclectic page, then I might stick with your kits. If you like your pages to look a little more matchy, then I would invest in a collection. Especially if the collection comes from a designer that Hip Kits doesn't often use (you'll get a lot of the AC brands, obvi, because AC dominates scrapbooking right now).

Thought I'd come back and enable anyone looking for matte-ish photo paper I recently ran out of the Canon paper I had been ordering from Amazon and picked up some HP soft gloss paper at Office Max in a pinch. Turns out I liked it even better than the Canon. So I was there today for something else and noticed a sale sign when I was walking by. Nearly half price this week at $11.49 for 100 sheets!!! Less than 50 sheets of the other on Amazon. This one?

I have ignored scrapbooking for 2 years now. I want to get back into it for some me time. I lurk on here, look at pinterest and galleries and get all motivated and then never scrap. Even an hour over the weekend would do me some good. Right now I am planning on cleaning off my desk this weekend which has been a catch all of purchases and memorabilia. I can print prictures at home and have some recent fun ones to scrap all ready to go. I am seriously thinking about setting an alarm so I have an "appointment" to scrap. How do you get in the scrappy mood? Girl, I have no advice for you. I am in the exact same boat that you are, almost down to the minute. Part of me is legitimately worried that I may never pick it up again. I wish you luck, and I hope that you enjoy your time when you do get down to business. Just go sit down and do it. You might be psyching yourself out of it at this point.
