Your home is beautiful! I'm sorry you have to sell it. I'm sure it will sell quickly as it is so pretty.

Kayne should just start his own award show. The Kaynes! The only winners would be himself and Beyonce.

How do they always seem to know they are calling someone with grandkids? Because the person answering sounds older? Has anyone heard of the caller changing their scam to a child instead of grandchild? It just seems like the story always goes, "Grandma!" right away. Not every old person has grandkids or is on good terms with them. Are the scammers dialing random numbers and then tailoring their story based on something they are "reading" from the person answering? Or are they getting these numbers from somewhere geared towards older people, like AARP? My nephew lost his phone and had my mom's number listed as "grandma". They called her using his phone before he realized he had lost his phone. The scammer was pretending to cry and my mom is hard of hearing so it was difficult for her to tell if it was his voice or not. Thank goodness she had painters in the house who overheard the conversation and they stepped in and told her to hang up because it was a scam. This happened last spring.

I wish the organizers of awards shows would seat him with his feet tied-up to prevent him from rushing the stage. He is a jerk and lets everyone know it. I feel so sorry for the performers (Taylor Swift and Beck). So what if Kayne doesn't agree with who won the award. He has no right to steal the winner's spotlight.

We are going this Sunday. It's my daughter's birthday and we always let the birthday girl choose the movie. Oh, our luck that the SpongeBob movie starts this weekend and that's what she wants to see. Maybe dh and I could sneak into the movie that's playing next to it. Just kidding.

I have an Oreck and love it. It is a bagged vacuum. I had a bagless (I think it was a Dirt Devil) and hated it. Oreck offers a 30 risk free 30 day trial. If you don't like it just return it.

I'm going to take my dd to a tatto0/piercing shop. They are well respected and have great reviews. They use a needle (which is how I had mine done). It's expensive but I think it will be worth it to have a high quality metal. This is from their web site:
"316L surgical implant grade stainless steel, solid gold of either 14 or 18 karat, niobium, or titanium work well for the vast majority of people. Platinum and some other exotic metals also work well. Metals to avoid include silver, gold plated or gold filled, brass, bronze, and copper. The initial "savings" on a cheaper ring is quickly forgotten when infections and reactions to poorly made jewelry necessitate medical expenses. This includes cheaply made rings of a proper metal. A piece of jewelry that is improperly formed, is not polished properly, or has any tiny nicks or scratches can harbor harmful bacteria and lead to infection or irritation."

My almost 13 year old dd goes through phases about bed making. Sometimes she will make her bed everyday. Then she will sometimes go for weeks without making it. Her room is super neat except for her bed. She will definitely make it if she has a friend over. Sometimes, I will make it for her. When I was her age my mom made it for me. I didn't start making a bed until I went to college! I make our bed everyday. I hate getting into an unmade bed.

Ugh. My daughter plays the blame game too. She will be 13 next week.
Teenagers always remind me of this quote which is usually attributed to Mark Twain: "When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years."

I loved Lenny Kravitz. Yum. I wish he had been the headliner. Missy Elliott's performance was terrific and she looked terrific too! I'm not a rap or hip hop fan (I'm not even sure which type of music she does) but I really enjoyed what she did. Katy Perry - shrug. She was fine and it looked like she did work hard on making everything sparkly.

Thanks for posting this. I received the email too but I assumed you had to spend 40 or 50 bucks to get the deal. They send so many "sale" emails that are really just re-hashes of the discounts they always give. I didn't really pay close enough attention to the email.

I would not bill an event as formal while using paper plates and plastic utensils. Check with the caterer, they might have the option to rent plates/utensils. I hate eating with plastic forks. I always end up breaking them!

I'm terrible at math as are my siblings. Our dad was a rocket scientist. Not kidding. He could not teach us math because he couldn't understand how we didn't just "get it". I ended up hiring myself a tutor while I was in high school. I paid for the tutor with my own money that I made working at a snack bar and babysitting. With the tutor's help I ended up doing ok.

You have received many great suggestions here! PANDAS was the first thing I thought of when I read your post. I'm pretty old school when it comes to parenting but the sudden change in behavior does not sound like a discipline problem at all. Trust your instincts and go to the doctor. Please let us know how things work out for your daughter. I hope you get your sweet little girl back soon.

Random thoughts: I'm in the minority and like Yolanda. I think she's one of the few women who would be a good friend. Sure she gets mothery but I'm okay with that. At least she has a smattering of sincerity. Oh, and she makes beautiful children holy cow. I like Yolanda too.

You have received lots of great ideas and we have done them all!
You don't really need all the baby gear that is out there. Ask other moms what they found helpful and what items didn't live up to claims made by the manufacturer.
Vacations - take simple vacations. We visit my mother-in-law and do simple things when we visit with her. It's really about spending time with her. It gives our kids the chance to get to know her. We drive we don't fly.
When your little one gets older buy a yearly pass to the zoo or children's museum (if you have one close to you). We spend many, many days at the zoo and the kids are not tired of it. Our zoo is big and it's great exercise for me with all the walking and it keeps me out of the stores!
Honestly I think my biggest suggestion is to keep everything simple and don't worry about what other people are buying or doing. It can be hard sometimes to hear your friends gush about their fancy vacation, latest technology gadget, and brand new luxury car. It really comes down to what is important to you. I can tell you that little kids don't really care what they ride around in, if they take a plane to get to the vacation destination, if they have a tablet or heck even if their clothes match!

Our main downtown library just installed a MakerSpace. I heard it on the news and checked out the library's web site to see what all they had. Wow is all I can say! They have: 3Doodler, button makers, sewing machines, audio recording booth, Canon DSLR, laser cutter/engraver, large format vinyl cutter/printer, VHS to digital machine, cassette tape to digital, 3D printer and on and on and on. They had tons of stuff and it looks like they are trying to attract all age groups. They also have a Silhouette Cameo machine!

To those who think these kids should be eating these "nutritious" lunches, have you TRIED them? 18 years ago when I started working, our cooks made everything from scratch. It was all wonderful and most of the staff ate the school lunches. The cook would grind up the beans for the chili and the kids who didn't like beans didn't know and loved the chili. She ground up broccoli for the Mac and cheese - same thing. She made all the buns from scratch. Then, new rules, and she had everything shipped to her pre made, frozen or in cans. She quit the next year. It was no longer a joy for her. Cheap pre made "healthy" food tastes like crap! You can have a really good wheat bun, or you can have a cheap one that tastes like card board. All of the veggies became soggy and over cooked. Healthy food is a great idea, but you need money for that. Schools don't have money so they buy the cheapest food they can. Staff doesn't even buy the lunches any more. If adults don't want to eat it, no surprise that kids throw it away. I have a similar story. My oldest daughter went to a Lutheran pre-school (the whole school was pre-school through 8th grade). The person that ran the cafeteria made everything from scratch and it was healthy and the kids loved it, even my picky pre-schooler. Her favorite was the whole wheat pizza. He would do similar tricks such as grinding up beans for chili. He also made all of the bread/rolls/pizza dough from scratch and it was all delicious whole wheat. The older kids would help with the bread making and then they would sell it after school. Our lunch man would also weigh the thrown away food and his goal to reduce the amount of waste. Parents received a weekly flyer which went over the menu and nutrition tips. The school won an award from the state for having nutritious food. Unfortunately, the church and the associated school closed. The "healthy" food served at my girls' school is catered and gross. It's all pre-made yuckiness.

Thanks so much for posting the link. I'm intrigued by the embossed kit. I think embossed cards will be a nice addition to the traditional cards. I also liked the clear cards. Very cool stuff.

I have a kid with Z in her name! Her name is Eliza.
I gave a few sheets to my girls to use on "projects". They were very little, probably 3 and 5. I quietly started to panic when they gleefully pulled off the random letters and stuck them willy nilly on their paper. Then I though how silly I was being for worrying about some odd letters. Am I really going to make a title that says, "The Quarantined Quaker Quacked"?

My DGS is in kindergarten. He's little, he doesn't eat much, and lunch time is short. He likes to buy lunch but we don't want to pay for it everyday do we do some of each. So we've worked out a system when he takes lunch ... he only takes half a sandwich and a little bit of fruit, either apple slices or a little cup of fruit from the grocery store or an applesauce squirty thing, and a tiny water bottle that he usually doesn't even open. It isn't much food and he does eat it, or most of it. BUT what month is this? January? And what month did school start? August?? Do you think in any of those five months that he might have mentioned he can't open the fruit cups by himself?? Last week he tells me the lunch ladies said he really shouldn't bring the fruit cups until he can open them himself. d'oh!! I loosen lids for him but it didn't occur to me he couldn't pull off the plastic covers on the fruit cups. And there I was thinking I was so on top of things. We will have practice at home now. Good thing he is really, really cute. Sounds just like my kindergartner. I pack her lunch every day except for the once a month treat of french toast served in the cafeteria. She gets half a sandwich, fruit and usually pretzels or crackers. About two or three times a week I'll add a small cookie. She just told me LAST WEEK that she can't open some containers. She is lucky though because her older sister eats at the same time and she is able to come over and help her open the container. The kindergartner can put the lid on but she can't take it off. I know what my kids eat and don't eat because they don't throw away what they don't eat. Leftovers get thrown (literally) back in their lunchboxes. At least they have learned to remember to put the lids back on containers. A gross lunchbox is one that comes home drenched in pear juice with some random cracker crumbs. I recycle what food I can. It goes back in the lunchbox for the next day. It pains me to waste food which is why I don't bother packing vegetables. None of my three girls will eat raw vegetables. They like them cooked and will eat them at dinner. Several years ago I was a cafeteria volunteer and kids can do some unusual things with food! I'm volunteering this afternoon but not in the cafeteria, at the book fair (which is not as gross).

I love this thread. I'm able to confess to people who won't roll their eyes! I havn't finished my daughter's pre-school scrapbook. She is in second grade! I havn't finished my other daughter's pre-school scrapbook. She is in kindergarten! I've made lots of other pages for their regular scrapbooks and the family vacation one but I just can't finish up the pre-school ones. I think it's my way of denying that they aren't little pre-schooolers anymore.

I agree with all of the other smart posters on this thread, do not lend her money! And don't you for a minute feel guilty or bad about it.
My dad lent two different families money and both never repaid him.

I just showed my almost 13 year-old the picture of your collection. I think she wants to ditch me and move in with you!
It's very pretty and looks like wall art. Thanks for the brand name. I think I will buy her a bottle for her birthday.

I've only had one big party for one of my daughters. She was turning 5. She is almost 13 and has absolutly no recollection of the party at all. We do family parties or an outing with one or two friends. Some of these parties are more for the parents to "outdo" the other parties.
