My approach has always been story-focused with a simple/clean/linear/minimalist/"magazine-ish" style. I may incorporate trends that I like but certainly don't conform to them.

[Note I exclusively scrapbook & create layouts only with a simple, clean, linear, minimalist, magazine-ish style]
How often do you use: - Cardstock stickers: Occasionally (i.e. mostly versatile labels/borders/tabs & rarely heavily-themed sticker sheets) - Puffy stickers: Rarely (since most shapes/icons are heavily-themed & letter packs lack enough frequently-used consonants/vowels) - Die Cuts: Rarely (purchased ephemera, since it's often heavily-themed); Often (manually die-cut shapes/letters, using metal dies) - Chipboard: Occasionally (Thickers, purchased more than a decade ago); Rarely (purchased/printed chipboard shapes/icons since usually heavily themed); Never (plain chipboard) - Enamel dots: Occasionally - Frames: Never - Tags: Often (using metal dies); Occasionally (cut-aparts, such as Simple Stories Tags); Never (purchased/blank tags) - Acrylic shapes: Never - Wood shapes: Never - Sequins: Never - Twine, string, etc.: Occasionally (twine only, in tag holes) - Ribbon: Rarely (in tag holes) - Metal charms: Never - Paper flowers: Never (although the one glass bottle of various Prima colors has been used as craft room decor for ~20 years!) - Washi tape: Never (on layouts); Often (to secure metal dies before cutting, stencils before inking, etc.) - Rub ons: Rarely (still have some Making Memories letters!) - Brads: Never - Buttons: Never - Film strips: Never (purchased/acetate); Rarely (using metal die)
ETA:
What about... - Eyelets: Never - Border punches: Often - Die cuts you due cut yourself (like QuicKutz): Often - Burlap: Never (only a burlap texture background stamp on occasion) - Acrylic Paint: Rarely - Foam stamps: Never - Bows: Never - Pockets with journaling tags: Never (either pocket for memorabilia or journaling tag sans pocket) - Ink (for like inked edges): Often (for basic stamping, stenciling, heat embossing, inking edges) - Tear Bears: Never - Vellum: Rarely (with computer-generated journaling) - Bottle caps: Never

I would love to see your pages, and what paper brands work for you. While I appreciate your interest, I don't post/share my layouts. My style is simple, clean, linear, minimalist, & "magazine-ish," so I use pattern paper sparingly & few embellishments. I start each layout with a sheet of cardstock & primarily use classic patterns (e.g. stripes, plaids, dots). Currently, my favorite manufacturers are Bazzill, Echo Park, Simple Stories (non-vintage collections), & Pinkfresh (non-floral collections, especially IACB collaborations). I'm also grateful to still have supplies from defunct manufacturers (e.g. Chatterbox, KI Memories) in my inventory, since I find them more creative/diverse/versatile/usable & less themed/repetitive than recent releases.

Thanks for your responses. My style is simple, clean, linear, minimalist, & "magazine-ish," so I use patterned paper sparingly with few embellishments. I start every layout (12x12) with a cardstock base, am story-focused with extensive journaling, & typically use 4x6 photos, non-themed supplies, & neutral color palettes.

1. Sideways (vertical) titles - YES, on occasion when it works for the layout design
2. Lots of white space - YES: My simple/clean/linear/minimalist/"magazine-ish" style uses patterned paper sparingly & few embellishments (plus extensive journaling as part of the layout design).
3. Mixed media - YES, although minimal (ie stenciling, basic stamping, heat embossing, inking edges, splatters).
4. Picture sizes other than 4x6 - YES: I typically scrap 4x6 photos straight out of the camera, but sometimes slightly trim them to either eliminate unwanted background or use 6x6 patterned papers as mats, occasionally enlarge photos to 5x7 or larger, & very rarely use smaller photos (if only available as 3.5x5 or wallet sizes).
5. DIY scrapbook kits - NO: I exclusively scrapbook at home one page at a time in non-chronological order, enjoy mixing/matching supplies within/across manufacturers, & put supplies away as I go, so I have no need or interest in creating/buying/using kits.

• Subscription kits. I’ve never subscribed to one before but I’m thinking I might to help me jump back in. Do you have a kit that you prefer over others? Best value? I exclusively scrapbook 12x12 layouts (ie no pocket scrapbooking, mini albums, traveler's notebooks, etc.). My scrap style is simple/clean/linear/minimalist/"magazine-ish," so I use patterned paper sparingly & few embellishments. I also gravitate toward the non-themed/neutral aesthetic & enjoy mixing/selecting patterns as part of my creative process. Therefore, I've never subscribed to a kit club in almost two decades of scrapping.
• Classes? The only classes I have taken were at a LSS 12+ years ago. Are there any good online classes that you recommend taking? Any to avoid?... I've also never taken an online or in person stamp/scrap class.
• What are thickeners? Thickers, produced by American Crafts for its brands (e.g. Vicki Boutin, Paige Evans, Jen Hadfield, Maggie Holmes), are "thick stickers" that may be foam, chipboard, fabric, or a combination of materials & rarely don't actually stick! Additional adhesive is necessary. I stopped buying them years ago due to lack of stickiness, an inadequate amount of my frequently-used vowels & consonants, not labeled as acid-free/lignin-free/archival, & price per pack (especially considering the above). Instead, I opted to invest in dies (& a few stamps) in basic/usable fonts which can be cut using any paper & layered for dimension.
• What are enamel dots? They are plastic/shiny/smooth/dome-shaped embellishments. Note matte finish, shapes (in addition to round), & DIY options (e.g. Nuvo Drops, Pops of Color, Perler Beads) are also available.
• Are tear bears still a thing? --- Just kidding! Neither mulberry paper nor paper piecing is trending.
• I didn’t get much into stamping in the past. Am I missing out and should I put more focus into stamping? Personal preference. I exclusively incorporate stamping into scrapping, so all my stamps were purchased with the intention of using them on layouts. Whether simply stamping the date or a label to creating a custom background & everything in between, I usually stamp on layouts.
• My Zig Pens are dying on me. What is a good line of pens to invest in? I prefer Sakura Pigma Micro pens.
ETA: Also, I missed the washi tape phase. How much are people using washi tape still? I've never used washi/low tack tape on layouts, rather I use it to secure stencils before applying ink/glaze, dies prior to die-cutting, etc.

What embellishments do you use the most? ... What do you use to embellish? Do you still make embellishment clusters? Consistent with my scrapping style, I prefer archival, flat, & versatile embellishments (e.g. labels, tags, tabs) & often use tools, such as punches, dies, stencils/inks, embossing folders, etc. Embellishment clusters have never fit my simple/clean/linear/minimalist/"magazine-ish" scrap aesthetic.

Perhaps it's the sofa!?! ...What layout themes are you most successful with? What themes do you struggle with? ... For me, a lot of my scrapping is about the art and the product, not the documenting. ... I never feel the need to document- I just scrap a photo that appeals to me. ... I'm not a theme scrapper, so don't view photos through that lens. My scrapbooking is story-focused with a simple/clean/linear/minimalist/"magazine-ish" style that is not product-driven. While our approaches may differ, we share a dislike for busy (& often poorly focused/composed for me) photos. For stories that include such photos, I often create either a one-page or a double-page layout (usually with 1-2 representative photos - e.g. Christmas tree with wrapped gifts) to document the story & add a divided page protector (or mimic with a cardstock base, if I don't have a protector configuation that fits the orientation of my photos) after/between them to house the busy photos. HTH.

... Does that bother you? Do you have a plan for them? Or are they just waiting for the right story or picture and you're fine with that? What is the oldest unused thing in your stash? Does this not happen to you because you use new things right away? My scrapbooking is story-focused with a simple/clean/linear/minimalist/"magazine-ish" style, so my inventory consists mostly of paper & tools with few embellishments. Since I painstakingly overanalyze every purchase, I only buy what I like & will use...eventually. I'm grateful to still have supplies from the original Bazzill, Chatterbox, KI Memories, Quickutz, & other manufacturers of the early 2000s in my inventory. I routinely incorporate supplies from these defunct manufacturers into my layouts because I find them more creative/versatile/usable/unique & less themed/repetitive than most current releases.

I'm a story-focused scrapper with a simple, clean, linear, modern, minimalist, & "magazine-ish" style who typically scraps 4x6 photos. If I determined all 8 photos were necessary to support the story that I want to document, the amount of journaling, not showcasing product, would dictate the number of pages (2 or more 12x12 &/or divided/pocket) for the layout. For 2-page 12x12 sketches using (8) 4x6 photos, check out the 4x6 Photo Sketch Blog, specifically Sketches 122, 137, 151, & 158 (that do not split photos across both pages). HTH.

... What is YOUR favourite overall page design? Do you like one photo with lots of layers? Multi photos tipped & overlapping? Sprinkles and clusters and depth? Or do you prefer clean lines and white space?
IS there a trend in page design? Do your pages follow that trend?
My style is simple, clean, linear, modern, minimalist, & "magazine-ish," which is not often found in this product-driven industry.

While I experiment/incorporate trends that I like or pique my interest, my style is/has always been simple, clean, linear, modern, & minimalist. It is usually referred to as boring (although I prefer "magazine-ish," as aptly described by joblackford in this thread) & not often found in this product-driven industry.

Thanks for your responses. My style is simple, clean, linear, cardstock intensive, mostly flat, & story focused (ie extensive journaling) or "magazine-ish" as joblackford aptly described. I occasionally include minimal mixed media, such as basic stamping, stenciling, etc., & exclusively scrap 12x12 (with various sizes & configurations of page protectors included to hold extra photos or memorabilia).
