We are getting a new washer/dryer set (first time having a matching pair) and I'm wondering if it is worth the upgrade to get more features. What upgrade features do you have and use all the time? If it matters we are looking at LG. I would avoid anything that has a lot of features and does not have an agitator. I learned that the hard way. I now have a Speed Queen commerical washing machine. It has no bells and whistles. It does not play me a tune! LOL. That it does is get my laundry clean. Something my fancy LG without an agitator did NOT. I have really dirty laundry that requires HOT water. My LG would not allow me to use straight hot water. It was a complete battle to get it to fill with hot water. Clothes came out DIRTY! I could see actual dirt/hay still on the clothes. I know I have way dirtier laundry that the average person - but that means nothing that is washed in those types of machines is really clean, IMO. I would not trady my Speed Queen for any other washer.

I think the difference in taste is not just down to the difference in butter fat levels, but also to what dairy herds are fed. Free range animals that are out on rich pasture will produce a better flavoured product than barn raised, hay fed animals. Most dairy cows are fed rations at some point in the year. The climate does not offer year round grazing in most areas, including Ireland. Even in temperate climates like California, the pasture still has to have time to recover, and winter season does not offer as much growth. It takes a huge amount of land/pasture to sustain diary cattle on 100% pasture. If you read the KerryGold info, they do not graze their dairy cattle year round. They very much emphasize pasture/grass fed, but they do note that seasonally they are fed stored crops, which would be dry hay and silage. But that is barely mentioned. I also would not call Dairy cattle free range. When they are on pasture, they are often rotationally grazed. This is a very intensely managed way to graze pastures, without over-grazing. They are in paddocks that are moved frequently, to allow for regrowth. Even with that, it takes a massive amount of land for this to happen. Ireland is not going to support a world wide butter supply on pasture only. KerryGold is 82% butterfat (at least what we have available in the US) Land O Lakes offers a European style butter that is also 82% butterfat and is very good. Vermont Creamery offers an 86% butterfat, but it is not available in my more rural Midwest area. I do agree that KerryGold is excellent butter! But I choose to support American farmers and buy Land O Lakes. I have heard that KerryGold may be coming to Wisconsin at some point though. I wish that AE Dairy (Anderson Erickson) offered butter. They are an Iowa Dairy, getting milk from diary's within hours of their location. They have the absolute BEST chocolate milk, dips (AE Party Dip!) and cottage cheese. I only buy AE milk to drink. Iowa has a lot of dairy farms. A little north of me, dairy is huge. The Blue Bunny ice cream plant is in Lemars. They make more ice cream (by a single company) than any other city in the world.

OP, I’m so glad you’re all ok and sorry you’re going through this. Sadly, there are many similar stories to the OP’s going on in Oregon right now. (I don’t know if she’s in OR or not.) While the TikTok could be hers, her story isn’t unique right now, so I wouldn’t jump to conclusions. Not jumping to conclusions, could be her or not. It was just weird it was almost word for word from her story posted. Just thought I would ask. That's all. Agree, not jumping to conclusions at all. I watched the story and just immediately wondered if it was the me. Just shocking damage. Oh the force of Mother Nature!

I would go with the Classic Tilt head. There isn't much of a size difference between them. Here is a comparison of them that might help decide. Comparison of Classic Tilt Head and Mini KA Mixer The handle on the mini would be nice, but also a pain. LOL 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. I would absolutely get a beater with the silicone edge though. That comes with the mini, but you can buy one for the Classic from KA, or cheaper on Amazon. When I still had a KA mixer, that silicone edge beater was THE best thing that ever came along!

My husband wants to leave a door open/unlocked so the painter(s) can have access to our bathroom. No way. I would be apprehensive about them coming in to use the bathroom when I was there! They should not have any issue finding a way to use a restroom a couple times a day. They can go get a pop/snack at a convenience store and use that. I would have no issue with them working on Sunday though. A lot of people I know that paint or do carpentry, have more than one job. So weekends are when they get a lot of their side hustle done. Or some are just that busy. Working on Sunday is a very normal thing for me.

Good luck! It sounds like an opportunity that you can't miss.
That guilt you are feeling means you are a good person, but that doesn't mean you have to stay at your current job.

but he had also threw in some junk from his garage that had an aerosol can of paint in it ( WTF!!!). When you mentioned BOOM - I knew it was an aerosol can. I don't know what it is with men and things that go BOOM, but they love it. I used to exclusively burn my trash, and always sorted out the aerosol cans, so I wouldn't get a boom. One day I found my husband and young son tossing them in the fire to get them to explode (they were safely within something so it wouldn't hit them). I was like WTF are you doing!! And they just laughed! They also loved Tannerite and making other things go boom. At least they were safe with it. You were right to call it in. He was using no sense at all with the burning. I so seldom burn now. I usually have some yard waste in the spring and wait for favorable rains and wind direction. Once the crops turn in the fields around me, I will not burn anything. Stalks now, and we have grazed them and the cattle are off them, but it still terrifies me to burn!

My son caucused when he was a student at Iowa - he described it as "people in all the corners of the room yelling at each other, and then we (Bernie folks) stole pizza from the Warren table." Ah, to be 20 again, but yeah, it's an informal process and always struck me as unusual, but what do I know? I think the Democratic Caucuses had a much younger base. But I think the Democratic party leadership in Iowa is the shambles. But most of the politics in Iowa could be classified as that. Our governor concerns me greatly. She is dismantling the public school system, and I don't know if it can recover after 4 more years of her, but the democrats can't seem to put forth a candidate that has a remote chance of winning. The State of Iowa does much better fiscally with Republican leadership. The democratic party about took us down financially very quickly. But since Trump the republican party seems to be hell bent on ending public school and any public assistance here. I just don't get what they are thinking sometimes. The private school vouchers brought me out of my "I don't talk politics in social settings" belief. What some young people believe now just stuns me. I am not party aligned, I am fiscally conservative, but socially liberal - but I don't lean hard either way.

This is the ballot tally from a smaller population county in my area. Yes - the math doesn't math on it, but that was explained by an undecided vote that wasn't reflected on the tally sheet.

I have never caucused, but I believe blank votes are handed out - you mark your vote and pass it back (I guess paper bag works) and they count them in the open.
I do believe it is very informal.
From pictures I saw at my county caucus - everyone was as old as Methuselah. LOL
FWIW - the last 3 winners of the Iowa Caucus have lost the election. So..yea!

I don't see me adding it to my collection mainly because I have more than enough plates and bowls already, but I really like that color. I am not one that normally leans to a light blue either. But it feels fresh to me. I also have plenty of plates and bowls - too many! I am thinking of getting the small platter in this color. That is a piece I do not have, but bought for one of my girls at Christmas. I just loved the size and want to get one for myself. I need more storage space! UGH!

Wasn’t last years a rose/mauve color? They both scream 80’s to me, but you have a point that it depends what you pair them with. Peony was the light pink color, and that was 2022. Last year was a dark green, Jade. Yes - they are very similar to the 80's-early 90's colors of Rose and Periwinkle Blue

Interesting!
I always keep my BKF under the sink, but I wish the powder had a better lid. It clumps up so bad for me. I haven't found a really good container to swap it to, and I am a bit hesitant about keeping chemicals in anything but their original packaging.

I am trying to pare down my pantry and my freezers. I just added a half beef to my freezers, so they are really full now. I had a lot of larger bulky items in there from Christmas, and I just need to organize it better. It's hard when I had to quickly cram in a lot of beef. I do put that stuff into the stiff sided grocery totes, so I can lift out to see what is below. It helps keep it better organized, instead of just random packages thrown in. I have another quarter in there to take to one of my kids, so that is not helping me get organized. I need to keep that separated. Money wise. Lord. Normally we pay most expenses in December, but this year we did not need any more expense, so we pushed it into January. The bill sitting on the top of the stack is 108K That's the biggie, but there are some other sizeable ones. Ooof... painful. Hope to get a couple loads of fats sold here soon. They are ready and we need to get them out of the barns to make room for calves.

You can buy one book at a time. If you belong to prime you also get a free book each month out of about 8 to choose from. A couple times a year you get 2. We have a monthly thread for that (Amazon First Reads), come join us! You can also “check out” some books on Prime, I think I have 10 right now. The free book every month (First Reads) is great! It is a nice part of Prime that is often overlooked. Thank you for all the advice. I think I am going to buy a kindle, so I have the option of reading anywhere, if I so choose. I highly recommend the Paperwhite. The ability to use it in all lighting conditions and the reduction of eye strain is worth it. You can get refurbished ones. I have the 'ad' version on mine. I did pay for Ad Free on a previous model, but honestly, it is just an add when you start it up. I don't even notice it. The battery life is long, you can set it for any light condition and adjust the type size and font to what works best for you. It is so light to hold on to. Best investment ever! When I check out books from my Library, it automatically downloads to my Amazon/Kindle account. It is a seamless process. It just syncs right up to my Paperwhite. You just need to set it up once. If you have trouble, or are iffy about it - just take your Paperwhite to your Library and have them help you get started with it. My Library uses Libby. Audiobooks are also awesome. I used to hate them, but I found with the right author and the right person reading the book they are very enjoyable. You can check out audiobooks from your Library and listen to them on your phone. I use Libby for that. I enjoy them the best with my airpods or headphones. Makes boring tasks like dishes, laundry, mowing, hauling 200,000 bushels of corn, etc. bearable! LOL

Now the cold is coming in with a vengeance, -46C is the overnight low on Friday, -50.8F, with a high of -40 for Saturday. it is -29 degrees Celsius in Calgary Are these actual temps! Or are they windchill temps? I find that the weather forecasters in my area are now reporting the windchill temps, but never really revealing that is the windchill, not the actual real temperature. That can be frustrating, since it is just inflating the drama of it all. We need to know the actual temps and forecasted temps. We do take into account winds, not that the wind makes it actually colder (yes it 'feels' colder, but it is not actually that temp). But we need to know the actual temperature and the wind/speed/direction to make our decisions for cattle placement and also for ventilation choices. Many a night my husband has woken up and check the temps/wind and has to go out in the cold to change ventilation for our barns. Today's low is supposed to be 5º F It drops from there to -19º on Saturday night, -20º on Sunday. Sunday's high is supposed to be -7º. These are all Fahrenheit, and actual temperature, not wind chill conversion. This is normal. We always get cold snaps. It can be challenging, especially if it is windy. What we struggle with the most is water freezing in our barns. It is essential that water flows 24/7 in the barns. So when water freezes, it is necessary to get it going again ASAP. Our outdoor waters for cattle on stalks works much better. We have in-ground water tanks that never freeze up. We might have to go break the ice at the very top (ground level) sometimes. Usually first thing in the morning. But if the cattle are at the waters, that doesn't freeze up. Best thing we ever invested in! We ramp up our feed for our cattle on stalks, so they have energy (heat). They get feed in their bunks every morning, usually with some protein mixed in. They also are on a stalk field that provides natural windbreaks, no matter the wind direction. We save this stalk field for last, since it will be the one they spend the worst of the winter on.

I’m so out of who’s who in movies that I have no idea who half these folks are. Out of everything, the only thing I have seen is the Barbie movie, Ted Lasso (but not the last season) and some of The Crown I have about 100% quit watching any TV, and there is never anything worth paying to see at the movies. A friend talked me into the Barbie movie and I enjoyed it. Mostly went for the popcorn and a Dr. Pepper. Jo Koy was the MC - I haven't heard a good thing about it. I heard that he accepted the job 10 weeks ago, because no one else would do it. Says a lot about the state of things, doesn't it. I have watched some of his standup, and once you see a little of it, it's the same joke spun a little different. He used to date Chelsea Handler.

Seems to me it’s time to give that land back to the rightful owners. But who? Lands have been conquered since the beginning of time. What happened with that Osage land is abhorrent, I am NOT saying that should be glossed over. But every stich of land on the entire world can come under scrutiny. Aztec's conquered their rivals, and they, in return were conquered by the Spanish. Britain was conquered by the Romans, who were then unseated by the Anglo-Saxons, then the Normans... and so on... It's not pretty, but history shows what changes the world goes under. Makes you wonder what and who will control us? Surely it will happen. Sooner or later.

Ridiculous. Why do people feel the need? FOMO Fear Of Missing Out. People see others buying them, see influencer's on Instagram and other platforms, and FOMO sets in. It's a real thing! I have experienced it before. Something that I didn't even thing about, then didn't really think I needed, but the more I saw it, the more I wanted it. I didn't want to miss out on getting it... BAM! Scrabooking supplies, home decor, etc. I now take the 'park it in my cart' approach. Put it in my real or virtual cart and think about it. Do I really want it? Do I have a place for it? Is it worth the cost? Most of the time it is not - and I put it back or delete it from my cart. I have a lot of things on my Amazon wish list. I go back weeks or months later and look at them. Do I still want it? Almost always no, I do not.

This one hits close to home. We are not far from Perry, and when my kids were younger, I went to many sporting events in Perry at the High School.
Perry is a small town of just under 8,000, so everyone knows each other. So tough on everyone.
Politics will surely be brought into this. Fingers pointed, yet nothing changes. A very disturbed young man. I haven't heard much about him yet, other than some video's of him that were taken down fast.
From the look of the wounds on one of the victims, it was a small caliber gun, like a .22
I hear so many stories of how kids behave in school now and have no respect for anyone. Why is this? What causes this? Is parenting to blame? I know a lot of really great young parents, and what would they be doing different than what we did, or our parents did to cause this lack of respect and loss of boundaries.
When I was in school, it was very common for guns to be stored in racks in the back windows of trucks. Very common. People hunted on the way to and from school. My mother said kids brought their rifles into the country school and would put them in the coat room. I know there probably was tragedies back then, but what makes it happen now? No matter the caliber of the weapon - why is it happening?

Have you seen all the videos of women lining up and fighting for the Valentines ones that just dropped at Target? They sold out company wide in 4 minutes 😳 FOMO. Fear of Missing Out. I can fall in to that trap, but I am working hard to not go down that path. I bought one Stanley, and it is the Admiral's cup. I thought I had to have it. Turned out I hated it, but the silver lining is that my husband loves it. When he runs the sprayer and the combine, he does not have enough cup holders. He has a cold drink and his hot coffee, and only room for one cup. We discovered the wide base of the Admiral's cup works to put on the floor and doesn't tip over when the machine gets a big jolt from a bump or a fast turn. So, I am happy that he likes it and I didn't waste money on a stupid purchase. My favorite insulated cups are the ones I bought in a case lot from SaveACup for crafts. Never really got the crafts done, but love those cups. They are the YETI style 20 ounce ones. Hot stays hot and ice stays in them for a day or two. I ended up buying the mag slider lids to replace the original lids to keep the flys out....always have flys in the cab! LOL I hate finding one in my drink! Plus I got the colored mag sliders, so everyone knows who's cup is who's.

I don't crank the fans until the engine block starts to warm up. I don't want high blast cold air.
If I start my rig before I get it, to warm/defrost - then I crank the fan so it does blow hard, because I am not going to be in it for a while yet. My god I do love the heated seats though. I love my toasty buns!
I love that my big semi truck is warm already when I get it. It sits in the heated shop, so it is at 60º before I even start it. I'd have to plug in the block to start it otherwise, it won't start if it's cold. It will complain and smoke and chatter at anything much below 60! It flat out won't start below 40.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt is a book that I enjoyed so much.
The main character, Tova does loose her husband to cancer, but the book doesn't dwell on that, it is just part of the plot as to why she started working where she is. But there is that mention of it.

I LOVE the FindMy app - so I can find DH! It’s so useful when I’m waiting for him to pick me up from somewhere. I call mine "Find My Farmer" .. I worry sometimes when he is late. If I can see he is in his shop, I am not to concerned. But with livestock, I worry about him sometimes!
