Harris ahead in Iowa poll, although within margin of error. Hope baby hope Iâm not optimistic enough to think she could actually win Iowa, but I do think if itâs that close in Iowa, she is might be doing better than the polls are showing in the battleground states What I found most interesting was how sharply white women over 65 broke for Harris in Iowa. I forget the number but it was a significant difference. You go, Boomer ladies!

I assume he is having regular well baby checks with a pediatrician? If so, they are likely asking mom about milestones and will catch anything that seems like a red flag.
I don't think I'd say anything, TBH, unless you are concerned that they are not having well baby checks.

It is positive to see principled Republicans taking a stand against Trumpism. It gives me hope that they may someday regain control of their party. I'd like to get back to a place where both sides operate in good faith and work together for the good of the country.

Gennifer - I have that same cashmere sweater in same color from J Crew from like 20 years ago - and I still wear it!! Me too. It's been a workhorse for years. I've been digging on the recycled cashmere sweaters from Everlane. I picked up a couple from eBay. We canât wear cashmere enough of the year here for me to justify buying it new.

I don't have an article but I heard earlier that younger voters are discovering the 'Access Hollywood' video on Tic Tok.. they were kids in 2016 when it came out. I found out recently that my own girls (aged 13 and 15 in 2016) had never heard it. They weren't going to vote for Trump anyway, but hearing that gave them even more of the ick about him than they already had.

Nothing to see here, Iâm sure. Texas Sec of State sent a letter to the DOJ saying that state law prohibits federal monitors in polling places and where votes are being counted. x.com/lonestarleft/status/1852534652264763457?s=46&t=5ZPLoWY3enez0Oe8WYfajwElsewhere, DeSantis made a statement that the same is true in Florida. Is this allowed in a federal election? Can states really keep out federal monitors? Regardless, it stinks to high heaven. What could they possibly have to hide? ETA: the Feds send monitors to Texas every election and no one has mentioned any law prohibiting it. This is very shady. I hope the Biden admin will put its foot down.

Trump and his supporters try to dodge the issue of abortion by taking the Clarence Thomas/ Alito approach and say leave it up to the states. There are a lot of reasons why leaving bodily autonomy and reproductive rights to the states is problematic. Maybe you could justify this if voters could actually have a voice and an opportunity to vote. Many states do not have the option for voter sponsored ballot initiatives. Other states learned lessons from Kansas and if the state house is in the control of the Republicans, the Republicans will not put abortion on the ballot for voters to decide. Even in states where there is a system to vote on abortion, Republicans are putting up roadblocks at every opportunity, raising the threshold required to pass, raising the number of signatures required, deliberately making the wording confusing etc. In the case of Arkansas, abortion supporters worked really hard to put abortion on the ballot but the conservative state Supreme Court blocked it. In Florida, abortion is actually on the ballot, but DeSantis is using state funds to campaign against it. Many states are heavily gerrymandered and people do not have a voice. And the Supreme Court stripped away voters' rights. dawnnikol posted this in another thread and explained really well the problems of leaving it to the states Reproductive care should be a federally protected right. We have seen the tragic consequences of leaving it to the states. And one final note - Republicans have made it crystal clear that leave it to the states is just a smokescreen, they have no intention of actually doing that. Lindsey Graham and others are talking about a 15 or 16 week national abortion ban. I have not doubt that if Republicans have control of the House, the Senate and the White House, the will do exactly that and pass the most restrictive abortion ban that they can. Weird how none of men's rights are "left to the states," huh? So much for the 14th amendment.

I hope that means their internal polling tells them they don't need to spend a lot in NC. But who knows? Only if they have already written NC off. She and her surrogates keep campaigning here so I assume they still think they have a chance. I've never expected her to win the state. It's a nice dream but in reality? We almost always elect Democrats for governor but have only gone for a Democrat for President 2x in the last 50 years - 1976 and 2008. I'm hopeful that the thorough and extensive disaster response from the Biden administration (contrary to what Trump and his surrogates have claimed) may also sway some voters? Maybe not, IDK.

I think we can handle whatever happens if Harris wins a lot more than we can handle 4 years of Trump. If she wins and it is as close as projected, it will be 2020 all over again. But this time Trump isn't in the White House so his powers are more limited. They are more limited, but the Republicans in congress can still do a lot of damage. Those who still fanatically support Trump are honestly as crazy and unhinged as he is, and many of them have extensive personal arsenals. While I think an actual civil war is unlikely, I wouldn't be surprised if there are pockets of violence if he loses.

I haven't seen the ad. I also have a Republican husband (who isn't voting for Trump this time, thankfully) and he always knows who I'm voting from. He sometimes argues for his candidate but he knows darn well I'm going to do as I please. I'm surprised that I see so little of Harris advertising in NC. She may have an equal amount of television advertising but certainly not more than Trump. Given how much more money she raised, this is surprising. I've gotten no direct mail from her and no phone calls but have been inundated from the Trump campaign. I hope wherever she is putting her money, it is working. I hope that means their internal polling tells them they don't need to spend a lot in NC. But who knows?

Yea. That part about itâs the same thing as having an affair is ridiculous. I feel sad for the women that feel they have to hide it and not tell her husband why she is voting for whoever. This is exactly equivalent to the posters around here who say that if their SO voted for Trump (or any other politician they find distasteful- deservedly usually...) they would feel their partner (friend, family member, business owner, literal person wearing a hat or t-shirt they don't like... whatever) has values they just cannot reconcile with and the relationship would be irrevocably destroyed. Ya know.. like an affair. Breaking the trust that you are who you say you are. Your values are what you say your values are. Trust? There is a reason we vote and it is not made public. Come on. Just like Biden (ya know... President for "All Americans") calling American's trash. Not a good look, regardless what letter is after your name. Have to disagree with you here. As many of us have said here, this isn't simply a political difference. It's a difference in morality. Voting for someone who actively campaigns to hurt people you love isn't the action of a loving spouse, parent, partner, whatever. Men who expect their wives to vote for Trump against their own best interest because the man likes his stance on guns or whatever is simply not the same thing as asking your spouse not to vote for someone who is fine with killing your daughters if their pregnancy goes wrong. It's just not.

I feel PEOPLE who were vocal Trump supporters that have witnessed the (further) unraveling and revealing of his lack of character need more reminders that they don't have to publicly walk back their "Proud Trump Train" stance and let the world know they voted D. I don't know a single woman of my mom's generation, mine, or my kids' that is reluctant to vote any kind of way due to their husband... But I do know a number that are decent and even really good, compassionate and caring people (especially 65+) who have taken on this persona of Trumpers. I hope one, in particular that I know, and love, will use some critical thinking skills that the country she wants to "take back" for her grandchildren will never be the almighty 1950's (which weren't great at all for her...) no matter how much she'd like to think entire families can live and work in the same town again and how great that was. The ironic part is that of her grandchildren that she's vocal she wants to "take back the country" for are 1 girl, one woman (who is voting Harris), and 5 young men. Of them, 2 are mixed race, and one identifies as gay. She totally doesn't see that her support of that POS is alienating and confusing, at best, to them. At worst, it is detrimental to their future. But I've known her for nearly 50 years. Her pride (and privilege and isolation as a stay at home "mom" all these years, and unwillingness to turn off the news) would never allow her to admit that she's (vocally on social media) supporting the wrong guy. I hope her pride doesn't go so far as to keep her from voting with her heart and mind rather than pride. And she's only one of many many many. BTW... those of you saying you have brow beat your significant others into submission are no better than the "men" you are positing control their wives votes. Just remember, they, and your children can vote however they choose to and YOU can't control it. One of the interesting things that is going on in this election is the divide between male and female young people and how defined it is. So many of you here have very very politically savvy kids, or so you like to share.... I'm curious how the young people of our country will *actually* vote. Both of mine (GenZ) have voted. They understood the assignment. I don't tell DH how to vote, but we have had some heated conversations about the world we want to leave for our daughters vs. some of the lies he's seen/read online. And our daughters have also been vocal to him about their beliefs. I think he's sat out the last two elections. Not sure if he will vote in this one or not. Early voting ends tonight so he'll have to make it on Tuesday if he goes. I would love it if he would show up and vote for Harris. I do believe he'd vote for Allred over Cruz, and he cares deeply about some local ballot initiatives, so maybe he will vote. If he does he may just leave the president field blank, IDK. It's very difficult to overcome a lot of the bullshit guys say to each other. I don't love it, but at least he's not voting for someone who wants to hurt women and LGBTQ people.

Before the "bUt ThE doCToRS" crew start again, please tell me which of the below states with BANS allowed their citizens to VOTE for these egregious consequences: Ooh! Ooh! I know this one! Since Roe was overturned, ZERO states have voted either in favor of an abortion ban or against enshrining abortion protection in their constitution. Even in the reddest states. But several of these states also will never bring the question to a vote because the Republicans in charge kowtow to their christo-fascist billionaire donors rather than actually letting the people of the state decide. One hopes that this election will be a referendum event for all those of us who haven't had the opportunity to vote on our own bodily autonomy. Unfortunately, the damage Trump has already done will be long-lasting - read the second article I posted to see the chain of Trump-appointed judges who refused to require Texas to follow federal law in emergency rooms when a mother's life is in danger, all the way up to SCOTUS who declined to even hear an appeal of the 5th Circuit's ruling. Short of Democrats successfully codifying bodily autonomy for women into federal law (without some zealot getting the SC to rule such a law unconstitutional), the best we can hope for for this generation and the next is that we can maintain abortion rights in some states. Of course, we will also have to hope that Ken Paxton fails in his efforts to get medical records from Texas women who seek care in other states so that he can prosecute them.

Another Texas casualty of Trump abortion bans - physicians are afraid to treat pregnant women in Texas, and hereâs why: Texas AG Ken Paxton continues to kill Texas women knowing that he has the full support of the Trump Supreme Court in doing so. www.texastribune.org/2024/11/01/nevaeh-crain-death-texas-abortion-ban-emtala/Whether you agree with other women's reproductive choices or not, I think we can all agree that this shouldn't happen in America. If Trump is elected, and especially if Vance succeeds him at some point during his term, deaths like Nevaeh's are likely to become common in all fifty states. VOTE.

We have seen the tragic consequences of leaving it to the states. Exactly. Texas does not have a mechanism for voter-sponsored ballot initiatives. The Republicans have gerrymandered themselves such a majority in both houses that Democrats would never get the votes for the lege to put it on the ballot. And yet polling consistently shows that Texans are opposed to the abortion ban in place. And yes, the federal government is supposed to protect our rights no matter which state we live in. Saying bodily autonomy should be âleft to the statesâ is like saying that slavery should be left to the states. We tried that. It doesnât work and it shouldnât work under our constitution.

What sort of pastry crust is used for pies outside the U.S.? Whatever your normal pie pastry recipe is should work fine. First - pies are not universal. I can't think of anything in German cuisine I'd call a pie. The closest would be a quiche, and that uses a savoury, not sweet crust. Second - in some countries (Australia, NZ and the UK among them) pies are often savoury, not sweet. The pastry I'd use to make a traditional Aussie meat pie, or a British pork pie are 1) totally different from each other and 2) not what I'd use for a fruit pie. Different flavours, different textures. Interesting! I guess I thought pies were kind of like dumplings - every culture has their version. đ As the others have said, we donât generally differentiate the pastry between a sweet and a savory pie when making traditional crusts. So that seems to be where my confusion came from. Some people make a crust out of crushed graham crackers (mildly sweet biscuit) for certain pies and for cheesecake. But pastry is pretty much just pastry.

And, I would really like to know how YOU would feel if it was your daughter, or your granddaughter (I have no idea how old you are) laying in agony in the ER with a tube about to rupture because of an ectopic pregnancy while an ethics committee decided to give the okay to her doctor treating her? Just curious. Because that IS happening now. It didn't happen before Roe V Wade was overturned and the decision was given to states. Or while the lawyers said no, the law is unclear and we're going to err on the side of caution, and the doctor's hands are tied. And then when she appeals to the state, the state AG says to the hospital, "If you perform that abortion, I will shut you down." But people like cindosha assume that this will never happen to anyone they love. Bad pregnancy outcomes only happen to liberal whores who had it coming, right?

Abortion is reproductive health care. Your moral, religious or personal view of abortion is irrelevant. That's your opinion. I made my opinion clear. I am against abortion except in cases of rape or incest. Health of the mother is something that is a case by case basis and would be deemed as such by medical professionals. So a woman doesn't have bodily autonomy to you unless someone else has already violated her. Got it. Corpses have more rights in my state than living, breathing women do. Corpses can't be forced to donate the use of their organs to save somebody else.

I don't think it's a recent story at all. It literally has a photo of the dated autopsy report. I also don't think it matters if she died in 2021 or 2024. What matters is that if laws such as the one that created the situation in which her doctors felt they had to wait for the cessation of that heartbeat to give her additional necessary medical care continue to exist, or are introduced into more states, then more women will inevitably find themselves in the same sort of horrible situations, and more women will die. Unfortunately, that is going to be up to the states. Certain red states, aided and abetted by an activist Supreme Court put in place by your guy Trump. You're complicit. But nice of you to agree that it's "unfortunate" that these women will die, in part, because of your choices.
