Honestly, when I see something like that, I wonder if the book is self-published and/or not very well written. I don't think good authors give their characters names that jar you out of the story. When I read a bunch of made-up sounding names, I tend to think the author used whatever "unique" baby names they liked but never got to use.

1998 called and wants its decorative towels back, y'all. Wrong, my Dad of the Dead cat towels are the best thing ever. Everyone who sees them loves them! They are intended for use, though. Not just decorative. I support any towels that you actually use. But the ones people used to have with ribbons tied around them and a little dust-collecting posy of fake flowers, never to be touched by human hands - those need to stay dead. |

I can only hope. Of course, my mother and DH all think my grumbling and worry is for nothing. "he won't do any of what he says" geesh, ok sheep. This drives me nuts. If he won't do any of what he says, why are you voting for him? And do you have the same confidence that a potential president Vance won't do any of that stuff? I am just so tired of our real fears and concerns being dismissed. My husband, my family ... it's all there, there, don't worry your little head. It won't be as bad as you think if he wins. Smacks of "just lie back and let it happen" to me. Disgusting. |

I love this! Folks songs are the foundation of a good elementary music program IMO, and singing ones from other cultures is a great, kid-appropriate way to experience something of other cultures.

I just saw this on CNN: The unincorporated township, located along the US-Canada border in New Hampshire’s northern tip, opened and closed its poll just after midnight ET in a tradition that dates back to 1960. Four Republicans and two undeclared voters participated. the fact that at least one republican flipped, i call that a win! Right? We could optimistically say that 1/4 of Republicans flipped. If we can do that nationally, we'll have a landslide! |

I checked the box for must be homemade, but TBH, I think this year my family is getting Bob Evans for Thanksgiving. It's really good and I'm tired after making Thanksgiving dinner mostly by myself for 27 years.
We may also use Bob's mashed potatoes.
If one of my grown kids wants to step up and make the mac and cheese, they are welcome to do so. They both can cook well enough for that.
ETA: I thought this was specific to Thanksgiving. We rarely eat mac and cheese at any other time.

ETA: the Feds send monitors to Texas every election and no one has mentioned any law prohibiting it. I believe I read that the law in question was just enacted a couple of years ago. But yeah...nothing to see here...move along... Are you on the Mothers Against Greg Abbott FB group? Get back to us when he follows and taunts the kid multiple times while filming it. This is a toughie for me because I was a big fan of Jason's prior so I am/was definitely Team Kelce. However, most of the LGBTQ+ community is not giving Jason a pass on using it not once, not twice but 3 times. So now I am not sure I can be team Kelce knowing that those impacted the most by the word is not okay with Jason in this situation. I’ve not seen anything about him using it three times, but I’ll take your word for it. |

Upon further reflection, it seems to me that Kelce couldn't win in this case. The young man with the phone was clearly trying to film some attempt at "owning the libs" and make both Kelce brothers out to be weak. So a certain segment of the country was going to har har at weak Jason and Travis Kelce if that played out.
But if Jason turned and gave the kid what he deserved, then that same segment of the population is going to be mad and say he should have more self control.
Can't win.

Yes saying he wasn’t going to pay his bill and was going to beat them up or something like that. I can’t remember his wording and I’m not going to go back and listen to him again. How many venues has he stiffed now? I’d be curious to know just how many places he *hasn’t* been back to specifically because he never paid his bills? I read somewhere that Minneapolis only recouped about 1/5 of what Trump owed for his 2019 rally there. Wonder how many other cities he still owes money to? I know he still owes the city of El Paso more than half a million dollars. |

I recommend you don't read the comments on twitter. The MAGA idiots think the letter is fake, but the law provides exceptions, the Texas Medical Board should investigate the doctors that signed etc. Yeah, that's typical from the right wing here - our elected leaders in Texas and their voters want to blame women and doctors for what is happening instead of taking accountability. We saw that from a couple of posters in the other thread I made about Josseli Barnica. They know this is the issue that is going to cause them to lose elections, but they don't want to give up controlling women, so they're trying to convince people that this is all about doctors not following the exceptions in the law. They don't want to admit they've made it impossible to follow by (a) making the law vague and (b) threatening to prosecute hospitals who do try to work within the exception to save a woman's life if Ken Paxton - state AG, not a doctor - doesn't agree that the woman is in enough danger. And then there are those on the left who want to blame women for not being able to just pick up and leave states like mine. Equally disgusting IMO. Internalized misogyny is everywhere. |

The expletive in question makes a difference to me here - the kid said Travis is a faggot for dating Taylor Swift. The insult to both Travis and Taylor coupled with the completely unnecessary slam on gay people - well, I think that kid is lucky his phone was the only thing that got broken.
I will admit I’m already disposed to like Jason Kelce because of the pushback he gave when idiots criticized his wife for not being a good enough housekeeper or some nonsense. He said that his wife is not a housekeeper and if their place is messy, that’s as much his fault as it is hers.❤️
I feel certain that Kelce will have his agent or someone replace the phone and that will be that. Hopefully the punk kid has leaned his lesson.

Ah, longing for the good old days. I have an acquaintance who posts all kinds of stupid $#*t about the 60s on Facebook. I just think, "Oh, those halcyon days before women could have their own bank accounts or hold 'men's' jobs." Or worse, the ones like Trump who want to go back to the Gilded Age, before women could vote, when much of the working class lived in grinding poverty while robber barons lived like kings, with no union-based or law-based worker protections, while child labor was endemic and Jim Crow reigned in the south. And, of course, the McKinley tariffs, much praised by Trump, which raised the price of consumer goods by up to 50% and caused widespread outrage. Good times! I swear some people have never opened a history book. This is another strong argument for keeping the liberal arts and humanities as a required part of a complete education. We all know what they say about those who don't study history. |
