We don’t live far from each other, so if you close your eyes and listen, you should be able to hear me applauding you from my home for your restraint and high mindedness. I do believe we reap what we sow in this world, ( others call it Karma ), and you have earned a bunch.
You’re a good friend.

Been to two concerts there.. and it is amazing. The walk to the venue is HORRIBLE though. It's like walking straight up a mountain. I was dying by the time we got to our seats. lol Saw Bonnie Raitt and John Mayer there.. I won tickets to see John (my sister and I went) and bought tickets for DH and I to see Bonnie (he loves her) We were going to get tickets for Red Rocks because dh's Colorado office is only about an hour from there. We were going to see if he could fly there for work and then only need to buy me a ticket but we couldn't make it happen. I'm glad we didn't get tickets based on what you just said. I have mobility issues and would be hurting if I had to do that. One of my daughters was supposed to accompany me to Denver for some sight seeing and the show. She had to back out at the last minute, so my other DD lovingly agreed to go, even though the band, The War On Drugs, wasn’t her thing. She has asthma! And carries more weight than she’d like. I felt so bad for her. We took a shuttle out to the venue, and from the parking lot, there were a lot of stairs to walk down into the amphitheater. I left her to climb up and get our seats quickly so we wouldn’t be up too far from the stage. But after the show—all those stairs had to be walked up. I felt so bad for her. Still, it was a wonderful night. And I’d love to go back. It compares well with the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington State, although the latter has a campground which really enhances the experience.

Last year was a great year for me, one week I took in 3 shows! ( Norah Jones, Third Eye Blind, and Chris Isaak with Lyle Lovett) The highlight was the band The War On Drugs at Red Drugs at Red Rocks. So far coming up this year I’ve got Muse in April, Coldplay, and one of my favorites , The National. I’ve got The National on my concert bucket list! This will be my second time. They are so very good. Matt sang several songs walking through the audience, and came right by me. and BTW, have you seen them do the old folk song Peggy-O on YouTube? It’s my new (ish) favorite thing.

I read that book for the first time in 1969. I was 12. I was so amazed when I saw a 50th anniversary edition selling at Costco a few years back. Didn’t seem possible 50 years had passed. Such a special book for me.

Yes I also thought the final question was really easy and I was surprised that the two men didn't get it. I'm sure it was obvious for Patti, who as a retired school teacher and a bookseller must have read "Pride and Prejudice" at some point. lol I'm thrilled to be rid of Jake, and I'm happy that he didn't get to five games so that we don't have to see him back for the Tournament of Champions. Ugh. I hadn’t thought of that. Now I’m disappointed for him. I thought he was a good player, and his idiosyncrasies didn’t bother me in the least. Of course, people very close to me are diagnosed autistic and I couldn’t love them more.

I made some for our house from all cotton fabric my DIL chose, and I cut into squares and serged the edges. We’ve had them at least a year, probably closer to two, washing them is no bother, and the six year old is in charge of folding them and putting them in the basket on the dining table.
They mostly get used as napkins at meals, but sometimes to wipe up spills or dry our hands. I bought some more fabric to make some for DD and her family.
For anything disgusting, we still use paper towels.

To me, it is obvious that Jake is neurodivergent. Quite likely autistic. He has little ritual things he does with his hands. And funny expressions on his face. I totally liked him and rooted for him although I really liked Troy before him.
But Patti just stole my heart and I was rooting for her Hard. I was disappointed when I saw the clue, because I thought it was so obvious, but I guess not, although he at least got the Austen part right. I’m so happy for Patti.

We have quite a few roundabouts here. They are super helpful at former 4 way stops where the traffic used to be backed up forever for the folks going or coming from work. With the roundabout, they all keep moving, it’s beautiful.
The video really helped with the “magic” one. After watching for awhile, it all made sense.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t panic if I found myself in one, though.

I wish I had thicker hair, I’d totally go for hippie grandma. Maybe two braids to my waist? Nice, swingy ponytail? Alas, my hair is super thin. I wear it in a layered bob, coaxing the little bit of natural curl into looking as bountiful as I can.
Don’t let your relative rob you of the satisfaction you take in your hair. Just think: you could have gotten stuck with mine.

And the baby uses these items for such a short time, why spend big dollars? Save it for when they are in school and want and need thngs for school, etc. Seriously! $2000 for a bassinette? I had 4 kids, and the combined time all four spent in the bassinette was negligible. Maybe for a crib, if I had a gob of money and nothing to do with it. OP. Congratulations on your coming grandchild. I hope you love being a grandparent as much as I do. If you don’t let yourself be baited into a competition on who bought what, or whose kid did what first, I hope you can also keep your friendship healthy. Now, the only important issue facing you is: What Will Be Your Grandmother Name?

My word for 2022 was yes, and I said it a lot. Started in February seeing Billy Joel at Madison Square Gardens. It was his first time returning after the pandemic, and there was such a joyous spirit there it felt wonderful.
With friends we saw To Kill Mockingbird. Richard Thomas (John boy), played Atticus.
Saw 4 shows at the newly refurbished and renamed Climate Pledge Arena, Panic! At The Disco, Killers, Arcade Fire, and one I can’t remember.
Saw a bunch of shows at McMenamen’s Edgefield, Norah Jones, Third Eye Blind, Chris Isaak, Lyle Lovett.
Bucket list for me was seeing a band in Colorado’s gorgeous venue Red Rocks, and it was one of my very favorite bands, War On Drugs.
And in a couple months I have tickets to see Muse in Portland.

So, wait. The police either didn’t check or care that the father was a convicted felon, in which case the presence of a gun would be a crime. They basically took his word for it. If the neighbor did not have footage to show them, nothing would have happened.
So I am disgusted by this father’s criminal behavior.
I’m also very disappointed in the police’s response.

I’m trying this but using olive and avocado oil. I am learning to like roasted veggies and sautéed veggies and whole grain rice, pasta and bread. It’s a pretty major change for me, maybe someday I’ll be able to get rid of the oils but changing to healthier oils from animal fat is going to be step one. How long does the gas last? I’m almost four weeks in! Are you using Beano or something? If the gas is bad, add gassy veggies and legumes sparingly until your body gets used to them. Potatoes are a safe, non gassy food, and if you don’t put fat on it, the % of calories that are protein is 10%. if you are using legumes for their excellent health benefits, and protein, at first do not eat more than a cup a day. This was hard for me, as I love chili, pinto beans, and lentil soup. As a matter of fact simple lentil soups with cubed veggies, veggie broth, and the lentils cooked until soft is delicious on a winter day, and the gas producing foods are broken down more. I adore raw veggies, but when I’m having to adjust my gut I avoid them. keep up the good work! You can do this. 👏

That is very good news indeed. 12 years ago my dad was dx stage 4. He responded so well to chemo, they decided to offer surgery, and then radiation on what was left. He’s still loving life. These wonderful stories do not always happen, and we all know it. So I know you value this new lease on life.

At 87, my Dad bought a brand new truck with all the bells and whistles. He’s so proud of it. Come May he has to take the driving test, and I’m honestly not sure whether I want him to pass or not. I am so impressed that FIL hikes every day! I truly, truly want to be that person, but just don’t motivate myself. Normally I would suggest he borrow someone's compact car for the road test. You decide whether to offer that suggestion or not. 😊 It is an option. They have a mid size sedan that’s quite easy to drive. But once again, I’m not sure if him passing is really for the best. His memory is getting very bad.

I had a breast reduction done in Costa Rica in 2012. I researched the different medical tourism destinations, and settled on CR making me feel the safest. I was on breasthealthonline.com , and used the info there to find a reputable doctor. The hospital he worked out of was excellent. I’ve been in hospitals often from infancy and feel confident when I say I know I’m in a good place.
My surgery was everything I’d hoped. My then husband was with me, and I recovered for two weeks before getting my last check up and flying home.
The hotel we stayed in was FULL of people from the States and Canada getting surgeries and dental work.

I have bristled at the lack of a second person plural pronoun for decades. Having studied other languages, I know how much it is needed, and just have deplored that it evolved out of English. I was jealous of our Southern countrymen who had one. And like others in this thread have mentioned, “you guys” is a graceless, unattractive sounding idiom that makes me think of bad mobster movies.
So a few years ago I made the conscious choice to utilize y’all. At first it felt awkward, like I was impersonating someone. But now it feels natural and normal, even though I’ve never even traveled TO the South, much less lived there.
And I’ve noted others here in my PNW state also using it.

zella , I’m sorry you have to experience this, especially considering your history of illness. It’s just fair at all. My Dad has memory loss which was badly exacerbated from Covid before there were vaccines. He will tell me the same story a half hour apart. He cannot be trusted to oversee his meds at all. One positive note is that he’s become very good at living in the moment. Add mine to the Arms Around. I hope what meds you take help you have more good days.

DNA has enabled many innocent people to finally be freed. It has solved cold cases, where sometimes for decades killers have gone free. As mentioned, it is used today to find killers much more quickly than in the past, probably shortening the reign of several would be serial killers. It’s much more reliable than circumstantial or eye witness evidence. It often conclusively rules out innocent suspects, freeing them from the shadow of blame and doubt many used to deal with although they were innocent. It has shown that a very disproportionate number of black individuals have been falsely imprisoned. For reasons stated above it allows victims a larger chance for actual justice.
Can you tell how I feel about it?
I’m also happy that security cameras are often additional help in solving crime.

We should not have been poor, but mom and my stepdad were alcoholics who liked to party.
We thought we were poor because our clothes and shoes were cheap junk, most of our meals were processed or canned stuff, our house was always dirty and neglected.
We never had the things we were supposed to bring in to school, like field trip money. Our blankets were somehow scratchy and threadbare at the same time. There were just a million little ways our lives seemed poor.
Once grown, we realized our parents actually had decent jobs, and went through enormous amounts of money. On themselves. There was money for all the nights at the bars. For my mom’s expensive clothes, which were mostly dry cleaned. For her trips to the salon. Her mink coats. For their cigarettes. For stepdads country club and frequent golfing. His new high end cars. For all the weekend trips to Las Vegas and the gambling. Ditto for the Santa Anita racetrack. For going out to eat at nice restaurants.
They also had terrible fights, and often over money. So we thought we were poor.
